Looks like all that training Fuudo has put in against other top Ryu's has finally paid off. All the gachis were showing him beating the crap out of every Ryu but always losing to Daigo's in a set.

Guys I have a offtopic question.
I just played with Guile vs a Makoto player. Green bar, first round I took half his life pretty fast. And suddenly it became laggy as hell, I couldn't do anything anymore and he was kicking my ass and I lost.
After the "fight" there was still a green bar.
Is that a lag switch or what?
Of course I kicked him, I refuse to play against a fraud like that.
Posted by UareDelicious on January 20, 2012 at 7:51 a.m. #34
Holy sh- Fuudo on a spree.
3-0'd The Beast and defeated Mago in a Fei mirror?!
EVO/GG4 champion is back in full form?
Can't wait for more of these matches.
Posted by NvhA on January 20, 2012 at 7:54 a.m. #35
Daigo played really badly, but the 1st and 3rd match could've gone to him.
Still got another match vs Haitaini. Let's go the beast.

Where do you actually purchase the ticket? I got 1000 points charges posted to my nico account as well) but it only shows some screen saying topanga on it... How do I spend the points?

Holy shiit, just watched Daigo Fuudo on the Ov3rheadGreg channel, please avoid if you dislike scenes of sexual violence.
DAMN!!!
NO wonder Daigo has been keeping dat ae2012 ryu under wraps, he's discovered some MAD CRAZY new tech!! Did you know that crMK can be comboed into fireball? Is this known?!?!
Also, HP shoryus are now safe on block apparently, although Fuudo was stil managing to punish them...
Posted by spotlesseden on January 20, 2012 at 8 a.m. #38
Daigo will win this thing. this is different than American tournaments. 1 lose means nothing right now.

Posted by The6thRedWolf on January 20, 2012 at 8:02 a.m. #40
@33 That is random lag which could of been caused by anything. It doesn't mean he caused it himself, it could be someone downloading something on either players internet or the providers themselves. Lagswitches cut the connection, not limit it. I would know, I was a GoW 1 glitcher. I hate it when people assume it's a lagswitch yet they don't realise they don't work on games unless the person using it is the host and players directly connect to them.
tl:dr Lagswitches don't work on SF and they don't create lag, but freezes the game for the person it's done too.

I think Daigo couldn't handle not being able to connect solarplex into crouching fierce into dp, and got severely punished for it in the fuudo match. Wish I could see all the other matches though.

But I guess Daigo fanboys hack in the databanks and change the data, so it does not count.

okay then
show me this arcade card data, I'm waiting...
oh wait, you don't have it, nobody has it, because its all BS
No evidence, no videos, no data = did not happen
Daigo played like an absolute scrub against Fuudo, so bad that if you removed the name daigo from the video people would have just assumed it was any random online scrub playing fuudo instead. How many times did he screw up the solar plexus link? How many times did he wake up DP and get punished by backdash? I lost count.
Maybe daigo's spending too much time having his joystick sucked in the madcatz booth to remember how to play properly. He hasn't been in america since evo, that says a lot.
Posted by onostolemybike on January 20, 2012 at 9:55 a.m. #73
@67
silly logic winston?
you sound like the sort of person who would be happy to criminally convinct someone for murder with no evidence.
I could go online right now, create a website and just post a load of scores of daigo playing random top japanese players, make them up and have gullible people believe every word of it.
Call me old fashioned, but I believe in evidence, not hearsay.

Posted by LordJim on January 20, 2012 at 10:14 a.m. #75
@#72
People post winrates and BP weekly, for starters.
If all those matches he won did not happen or he lost them, it would not add up with the data.
And yes, a silly couch warrior with a grudge could make a website with the sole purpose to spread false info, but that would be silly and not help with anything.
It's not like you need to lie about Daigo to know he is an incredibly strong and consistent player for the last 15 years.
You can live in denial all you want, it is hella amusing for the rest.
Moron.

Lol Maybe this statement could've held true, save for the part where you have NO credit at all, these arn't some random dudes posting the scores, it's people like Zhi, Hsien Chang, and Fubarduck. Now, if you can give me a logical reason to how lying about some scores benefits them in anyway, maybe I could believe you.
Also, you know what my evidence for Daigo winning is? Evo champ 2 years in a row. You're gonna tell me a guy who went undefeated 2 years in 2 1000 men tournaments isn't gonna win alot of matches?
Posted by Hitstick on January 20, 2012 at 10:34 a.m. #82
What happen to you guys tier lists? They are constantly changing because they are NOT TRUE. Tier lists are always changing because it is false. What IS true is that you can win with ANY character in here based on the player.
Posted by LordJim on January 20, 2012 at 10:45 a.m. #83
@#82
Tier lists are about how characters compare to each other.
Characters have specific tools and these dictate match-ups.
Saying they are not true is retarded.
The reason they change is because people discover more and mroe about a game.
And yes, big pearl of wisdom there, who would have thought that the most important part is the actual player.
I sometimes wonder why I even read the comments
Posted by onostolemybike on January 20, 2012 at 10:46 a.m. #84
@81
and how do you know these guys can even keep count during the sets? Personally, I couldn't give a toss what fubarduck or hsien chang saw, if they can't record it and show the world then I don't give a crap.
daigo was evo champ 2 years in a row, okay, so? Plus I'll ignore the fact that there were hardly any other top japanese players there during the years he won it. I'll also ignore the fact that daigo never wins any significant japanese tourney like sbo or godsgarden.
That's in the past, I don't care about the past, I care about the present. Daigo is a shadow of what he was, the beast went on a tier whoring crusade with yun, failed miserably now returns to what looks like a very rusty, washed up ryu. I'm not impressed.
@konachan
if you want to talk about embarrassing, lets talk about daigo's performance against fuudo first.
Posted by NerfGuile on January 20, 2012 at 10:46 a.m. #85
So much trolling here :).
Daigo played well against Fuudo. Didn't look scrubby at all. Actually he looked very strong.
Game #1, he gets hit by random wakeup Ultra vs cr.MP, it was full ultra because he was winning by a lot. But he was out playing Fuudo by quite a bit.
Game #2, he misses SPS link, gets hit with full ultra because he was winning by a lot. Second round, drops SPS again! In both links he missed by pressing the cr.HP early.
Game #3, misses SPS link (the DP this time) again. Overall he gets outplayed in the game.
Bottom line: Daigo is still better than you. And will still be very good. Saying he looks like a scrub is pretty funny and just show what an idiot you are.
Posted by NerfGuile on January 20, 2012 at 10:53 a.m. #86
onostolemybike: There is an english word for people like you - I-D-I-O-T. <- sound it out.
Daigo failed miserably with Yun? He was top 8 in EVERY SINGLE TOURNAMENT he entered. Of the three US tournaments he entered he WON twice and came 4th. You call that failing?
IDIOT. You are a complete IDIOT.

"So much trolling here :).
Daigo played well against Fuudo."
Okay dude you're trolling, how can you say he played well againt fuudo
"Bottom line: Daigo is still better than you"
Bottom line I don't play this game 9 hours a day and neither does most the people here, because I prioritize more important things in life than a mediocre incarnation of street fighter.

oh you mean those 2 american tournies daigo won when AE had been out a mere 6 days on console?
yeah, that was big of daigo. Beating up americans with his 6+ month experience of yun against their 6 days of experience with AE. I'm sure 90% of the american players at that tourney had no idea how to deal with yun.
So yeah, big round of applause for daigo for taking advantage of his massive head start. Whoope fookin doo
Posted by Hitstick on January 20, 2012 at 10:58 a.m. #89
@#83:Tier lists being NOT tru is the truth because if they were THEY WOULD NOT CHANGE. They would not be subject to change. Do you understand this simple concept? For example, you don't have Seth rank low tier then all of a sudden since Poongko did well with him BUMP him up the charts, no because the character did not do that and there was nothing new that we found out about that character it was the player's intuition ans skill that got it done. Regardless of the character.

Posted by LordJim on January 20, 2012 at 11:17 a.m. #92
@#89
Yes, he only came 4th at evo and 3d at SBO. Let's ignore other tourneys he won in Japan as well, or other majors around the world. Or an 82% win rate in Arcades where many other top plays played and rotating 1st/2nd with Kazunoko. And for a version of SF you do not care, you sure waste a lot of time with things concerning it.
And if had you any good reasoning to discredit their reports besides 'I do not believe it wah, wah', you would have presented it.
Did he rape you or something? Cause unless it's personal, I cannot fathom how someone could be that stupid
@#89
Now, the other idiot.
Players make the tier lists based on their CURRENT KNOWLEDGE.
Unless they have PERFECT knowledge about all the characters, all 1521 match-ups and everything that can be done with this engine, the tier list will change.
The PLAYERS determine how the game is played and what works, and tier lists are a reflection of that given moment.
That does not make them false. And since they talk about characters, they do not take into account the human, factor, aka the player. If good players do not play some characters for some time, misconceptions can happen
Fighting games evolve like that. If you want to oversimplify everything and ignore what the tier lists represent and how the games are played, then yeah, I guess tier lists can never be 100% correct.
Posted by onostolemybike on January 20, 2012 at 11:24 a.m. #93
@92
82% win ratio? Is that all, I thought he was 'THE BEAST'. Shouldn't beating him be like a rare thing? He loses way too much for someone sooooo overhyped.
Actually his win ratio is under 80%, but you're a bit infatuated with him I think, so I'll let you of.
Everybody knows sakonoko is more talented than daigo, the only difference is sako doesn't play 9 hours a day and doesn't whore out boring over-used generic snore fest characters like ryu. Oh ryu... so original, never see people playing ryu or anything.
Posted by LordJim on January 20, 2012 at 11:29 a.m. #94
@#93
Up until 2012 rolled about when he used yun.
Less than 10 people in all of japan had better win ratios (Michael Tan was first with 85).
It's interesting that you think winning 80% of 9000 matches is not good, but hey.
At least you make it obvious with each comment you post that you are trying too hard.
Posted by onostolemybike on January 20, 2012 at 11:34 a.m. #95
@94
oh and why was he using yun? Can you say tier whoring?
And where is his yun now? In the trash, dropped like the tier whore he is.
win ratios mean nothing to me, it depends who he played. 90% of those matches could have been against sub-standard players. Chances are it was, because you wouldn't get an 80% win ratio if you only played sakonoko.
bit like justin wong's 300 consecutive win record, who did he play again? yeah... say no more.
Posted by Nukka on January 20, 2012 at 11:34 a.m. #96
@84
Your argument makes so little sense it's not even funny. First you go and question if these guys can even count or not..seriously? Next you expect them to record, when it's not allowed at the arcade? Yeah they're totally gonna risk getting kicked out for your pleasure.
Evo is kinda a big deal, meaning winning 2 years in a row isn't just 'so?'. Nice logic, no japanese players = easy tournament, and you say other people are dickriding? And if this holds true, where were all the japanese top players that came out to EVO 2K11? ELIMINATED. By american players no less.
Now, can you explain to me how his Yun failed? I'd say his win ratio is about 95% with his Yun soo..No failing there. Also you're gonna call him a rusty washed up Ryu based on 1 match? Hahaha wait atleast till the tourney is over so you don't eat your words too much if he does end up winning.

^#92: 1st of all I gave Poongko praise for using a supposedley LOW tier Seth [ranked by the so called top players]who is supposedley not "tournament viable." Yet guess what Poongko goes on and RAPES with Seth even won the Shadowloo tournament and places well at Evo with low tier. But then he jumps up the Tier charts, why you ask BECAUSE he was winning with the low tier character. Has nothing to do with NEW information, lol what a load of crap.
Can't wait till some no name wins a tournament or places well with Dan. Then he will be high tier, lololol.

I thought you daigo fanboys were a hardened bunch, I guess not.
lots of japanese players have won american tournies so I don't really care if daigo has won some, that doesn't make him stand out,
nor does losing 4 out of 5 first to ten matches in godsgarden2. daigo's overhyped bs at its finest
Posted by LordJim on January 20, 2012 at 11:45 a.m. #101
@#97
Or maybe he showed of Seth's strengths and made people reevaluate the character.
And Momochi won Season's Beatings with Cody, Cody did not suddenly become even a top 10 character in AE.
Adon did not really rise in Tiers even after Gamerbee kept winning.
Similarly, even though Sagat was not winning in the US in Vanilla, no US player thought 'Sagat is bad, we must put him lower on the tier list'.
Tourney results are different than Tier lists. If anyone wins with Dan, is a credit to the player, the character still has problems
It's not that hard a concept.
Usually.

why do you need to convince one little soul it happened? let him think what he wants, why do you care? damn not everything is worth your time and attention, which is what he wants. not everyone is impressed with daigo, you dont need to convince them otherwise, they already know what he's achieved, they just dont like his gameplay and want the whole world to know. just move on.

I like onostolemybike. It's always fun when idiots come here and get blown up. No video necessary to know you are a fool.
A lot of people never mention it, but Daigo made Yun top tier day one. He was beating everyone as soon as AE dropped. Pretty crazy when you consider how hard it is to learn a character - even Yun. [If Yun was so easy, players like Gootecks would have been able to pick him up, even after being "tutored"]
You can't compare anyone's win percentage with Daigo except for the people that play at Taito. This is because that is the strongest arcade. When Daigo and Kazunoko traveled to the Sega arcades and other places, they go on huge win streaks. If they played at those arcades they would probably have win %'s in the 90's.
Posted by Super_Shoto_Fighter_4 on January 20, 2012 at 12:57 p.m. #113
Even though I don't play Ibuki in this game I support Sako. He may not win tournaments but he's an innervative. I support Kindevu because he reminds me of Rufus and he plays Cammy. Everyone of them is Solid though. No Frauds except Mago.

These standings aren't technically correct. These best of 5 sets are just that: sets. It takes two sets over an opponent to win a game against them.
So yeah, Daigo hasn't lost to (or beaten) anyone yet, and neither has anyone else. The sets are used for tiebreakers at the end of online play.

You're right. Not everyone in the world can play Yun at his best and I know that from my experience by playing online and by watching videos on the internet. I've only seen very few players who could play well with Yun at online. Yun is pretty difficult character to use, same goes with Fei Long, Yang and Viper.
Also, for someone who compares the win percentages from online to the arcades, especially playing at Taito arcade, is looking at it the wrong way. This is because I've seen many players who have impressive win rates at online but it's not valid because its online, NOT offline. I have nearly 80% win rate online ranked matches and I'm happy with that. For someone like Daigo, Kazunoko and many others, who have over 80% win percentage at the toughest arcade is impressive. Comparing is just wrong. No point at all.

Daigo wasn't hit with a random Ultra in game 1, it was an option select,
if Daigo hadn't backdashed the Ultra wouldn't of come out, so it goes
down as a good read by Fuudo.
Although Daigo did indeed miss some links you fail to mention the fact
that he was punished severely for consistently mashing dp on his wakeup
& during his opponents block strings (which also cost him dearly at EVO).
These must also go down as good reads by Fuudo, stop being biased & give
credit where it's due!!

@126, the_truth, watch it again. Daigo does cr.MP crouch tech not backdash. You say give credit, but seems like you didn't even watch the match.
Game 1, round 2 - fuudo does U1 in anticipation of cr.MK x FB, daigo doesn't throw FB and fuudo loses. Very risky for Fuudo.
Game 1, round 3 - if it was an option select, the Ultra only came out because FUUDO mistimed his cr.LK. Daigo did not backdash but crouch teched with cr.MP. It was a desperation Ultra or a mistimed OS. Either way very risky. Daigo was outplaying him.
Daigo looked great in all three matches. So did Fuudo.

Posted by SuperStraightFighter on January 20, 2012 at 4:31 p.m. #132
Fuudo deliberately whiffed the cr.lk early to get an OS ultra, doesnt matter if Daigo back dashed or not, as long as he pressed a button it will hit him. Fuudo did very well in all three matches but Daigo missed his forward hp link 3 times ( 2 times with uppercut and once with cr.hp but didnt finish the link) is a little strange.

You could have some credibility saying Fei's 'random' rekka is cheap in AE but in 2012 its being nerfed, unless you are some godlike pros who could hit confirm first hit of Rekka consistantly, same thing can be said for Rose doing 'random' ex sparrow then safe dash twice to push opponent in the corner, see what I've done there? Maybe step up your games

You mean everyone makes mistakes 'including' Daigo, not 'especially' Daigo, btw that forward hp Ryu does is like the best hit confirm move in the game where you could just mash dp afterwards and it will hit 99% of the time, its not a move where you 'react' to it afterwards, which is why I say it is strange for Daigo to miss it considering his level (#1 in my book).

Posted by NerfGuile on January 20, 2012 at 5:37 p.m. #143
@132, Fuudo did not purposely whiff that to make an OS. By whiffing the cr.LK, he lost all the OS properties.
If Fuudo had done it correctly, the cr.LK would have either connected = option 1, or if Daigo backdash U1 = option 2.
Since Fuudo accidentally whiffs the cr.LK, the only option is U1 meaning not an option select at all because there is nothing to select :). It is just a random Ultra that beat a crouch tech. If Daigo had blocked the Ultra would have still came out and Fuudo would lose.
BTW, do you guys still think Online Tony is a better Seth than Kazunoko? I got a good laugh in that other thread.
Posted by SuperStraightFighter on January 20, 2012 at 5:55 p.m. #144
@143
no, by whiff it early its still an OS, early lk whiff will bait other moves since its done before their recovery to make player think that they can throw in a jab or cr.mp in this case, which the lk whiffs then ultra came out, 2nd option is if Daigo backdash, it will hit him as well, theres a third option which is if Daigo dont do anyhting, fuudo whiffs cr.lk then ultra which would end a disaster for fuudo, so whiff cr.lk early is sort of a gamble OS if you may.
Posted by SuperStraightFighter on January 20, 2012 at 6:07 p.m. #145
In this case the ultra 1 can be delayed slightly by whiffing cr.lk early, to use it to pre buff the half circle motion required for u1, then press the 3*p at the right time when Fuudo saw the cr. mp coming.

Daigo is a professional gamer, he makes his living by playing streetfighter at a professional level, winning event and being sponsored
Probably not much money, and maybe he have a second job, but still being a gamer is his job or one of his jobs
So playing or training 9 hours a day is his duty, its not for fun
Professional gaming may not be as accepted as I wish, but its real, and I hope it gets bigger, because I do enjoy watching certain games being played at the top level, by people dedicated to it
Professional gaming in my opinion is still in its infancy, many games are not created professionally enough, the bigger this get, games will be better more balanced and players will reach new highs I hope
@129 I so dislike Fei for ruining EVO2011 for latif and viper, fuudo is cool thought he should play with a nicer character than fei ... like cammy ;). and hori or eightarc should sponsor fuudo ...

What is the Fei Long Ryu match up like in this game? Is it still as bad as it was in AE?
Posted by keebler on January 20, 2012 at 7:24 p.m. #148
I dunno why some people like that onotroll whatever are making a big deal about daigo losing to fuudo. They are both amazing players. Fact is that those two are playing their characters to some of the highest potential. It's partially a display of why ryu loses to fei long in general. That's not a match in ryu's favor whatsoever.
I think some of you think that top level player = crap that you see in a combo video or something. What do you expect Daigo to do against an amazing fei? Especially Fuudo, who in my opinion has better reactions than Mago. He really doesn't have many options aside from a cautious approach and poking with c.mk. Sure, he dropped some links, but Daigo is human. He messed up. Nothing to do with being a fanboy that we still respect both players and recognize the skills. You need to give Fuudo credit too. He won it with some good reads.
And Sako is talented, but don't knock Daigo's character selection considering he basically is Ryu personified lol, and give Sako credit for his character selections. Sako played Cammy back when she was one of the strongest in the game, dropped her when she was no longer overly abusable, and picked up Ibuki. People sleep on Ibuki, but her vortex pretty much allows her to get an easy win upon knockdown if you know what you are doing. I love watching Sako, but his characters are pretty cheap imo. You could say that about alot of players just the same.
Posted by keebler on January 20, 2012 at 7:29 p.m. #149
@147
For Ryu, it's definitely a matchup that has improved for him since AE since c.mk was un-nerfed a bit and more effective in footsies, and ryu's tools have increased in damage while Fei's damage output has dropped , but Fei's tools are still more dominant overall.
Posted by keebler on January 20, 2012 at 7:39 p.m. #150
@141
Some players may like to be flashy, but Daigo is not the type to do links to "impress"... let alone that, at that level, no one would think a freakin c.hp link after sps is impressive lol get outta here. He was probably trying them because he's done that link millions of times and probably felt comfortable with retrying after failing even basic links, but he ended up in a funk.
Simply put, putting in a fierce, especially near the beginning, adds a substantial amount of damage into the combo. Plus, it's often used to setup into ending with a tatsu for good damage and for positioning. Daigo was constantly fighting for space to avoid the corner, which is a problem in the fei match up.
Posted by warriors on January 20, 2012 at 8:16 p.m. #151
@150
I wonder why couldnt Daigo pick another character to play Fei Long, Ryu doesnt have a very long reach, and most of his moves are easily punishable, and Fei is mister punishment
The characters I more easily beat Fei with are Cody and Rose, I dont really have a main, I play cammy the most, but i cycle other characters constantly
Gamer professionals should master more than one character and know how to pick their tools, I also think tournaments setup should be set around this, for example it could be a nice thing if players are forced to change characters during a series
Posted by SuperStraightFighter on January 20, 2012 at 8:17 p.m. #152
@146
I don't know what your definition of 'nicer' is, someone that has sex appeal to a guy like Viper or Cammy? or in terms of play style? Or do you just mean he should play the character you think is nicer? In my book, bruce lee inspired characters are always cool, I played law in tekken and fei in SFIV so I think this character definitely deserves the definition of 'nicer' in my book instead of some fictional sexy female characters to appeal to horney teenage boys.
Posted by SuperStraightFighter on January 20, 2012 at 8:22 p.m. #153
@151
Ryu doesnt have very long reach? thats what full screen hadoken and tetsu are for right? the matchup isnt as bad as some of you suggest, all these japanese pros has mastered more than one character, I couldnt name any who hasn't, but changing character mid game is a terrible idea as it allows constant counter picking.
Posted by keebler on January 20, 2012 at 8:39 p.m. #154
@153
Hadokens aren't exactly an amazing go-to against fei with chicken wing. And in closer ranges, all fei needs is focus and rekkas. Rekkas are basically fast hadokens that only reach from outside sweep range. They may as well be projectiles. And did you mean tatsu? When would he use tatsu? Really only during combos for positioning purposes, which you see him do a couple times to put fei back outside rekka range. I'm hardly saying Ryu has no hope against Fei, but its not even an issue worth arguing that Fei beats Ryu, and that sort of fact is pretty relevant when you are speaking of arguably two of the best players for those respective characters.
@151
People do counterpick sometimes. But really, a person who has mastered a main isn't going to run just because a matchup is bad unless it's a HORRENDOUS matchup or something. And i'm fairly sure everyone has seen Daigo whoop up on Mago's Fei using Guile back in Super, so he obviously can pull out other characters if he wanted. Daigo has played Cammy in 2012 too, but Fei is one of cammy's tougher matchups too.
Fei is just tough, period. Lol.

Well a tournament setup can be worked out, my point is, Games are not perfect, some character are definitely stronger than others, and bad match-ups exists
I think instead of fixing the games, which is very hard and very subjective. Maybe we can work more or the setup of tournaments
For example: Players face each other 3 rounds, each round is composed of one set best of 5 or best of 3.
They can be for example forced to change characters in all 3 round or at least two. A setup like this can be a better indication who is the better gamer, not the better game character.
This can go deeper, other ideas for example, characters can be categorized in groups or classes, and for each of the three round, player choice can be limited to one class! Again we can comeup with tons of ideas, which i believe can add variety and make tournies a better judge of gamer levels

Samething can be said about Ryu, Hadokens (full screen) are a zoning tool doesnt matter who the opponent is, it works on everyone, the point is when to use and when to not, Daigo is confident enough to throw hadokens at close range is because he knows the oppoent will not jump and even if he did, he would eat his uppercut, focus and rekkas is not all fei's need against Ryu, as ryu has tatsu, multi hit like forward hp, and two hit overhead as well, not to mention his cr.mk hadoken which both has being buffed. Comparing hadokens to rekkas is just laughable, firstly the range is completely different, if you say its sweep range then you might as well compare it to Dan's hadoken, secondly the range of rekk depends on lp, mp and hp which again effect if its safe or not even on first hit, since 2012 nerfed it, its no way to spam rekkas so no, fei needs more than focus and rekka, and lastly you forgot that hadoken is fadc able unlike rekkas which get punished by a neutral jump if made a bad guess. You underestimated the power of tatsu as well, first off it gets combos going, like cross tatsu super, secondly it escapes corners so easily, thirdly it is armour breaker, and then it pass through projectiles if timed right, and lastly like you said as positioning tool, a move has these many usese is hardly less effectively. also you forgot to mention that chicken wing completely whiffs on ryu while he is doing hadoken at close to close-mid range which is when you should use chicken wing anyway to punish hadokens, test it out and see for yourself, hk chicken wing start up is slow and is extremely easy to react to. This fei beats Ryu 'fact' is completely untrue, it all depends on the players skills.

Both characters need to react to cerntain situations so I dont see either has a clear advantage over the other, if Daigo didnt miss his Ryu's easy links forward hp 3 times, he could very well won the game, so how is it Fei beat Ryu matchup is a fact? consdering both Daigo and Fuudo are considered the best of their respective char, Fei beats Ryu is a fact? this is just laughable.

When I say Fei's rekkas are like hadokens, i'm referring to in a footsie battle. Usually, people may say the reverse, that hadokens are basically long range pokes. The fight with Fei is going to be dancing back and forth in Rekka/c.mk range. And yeah, Daigo is fine with throwing fireballs because fei can just block or focus through and slowly push daigo to the corner. It's just a big battle for space. Watch their fight. The whole thing is Daigo poking for openings as he was slowly pushed to the corner, then trying to force his way back out and back up to the other side, rinse and repeat. And half of the stuff you said about tatsu is not relevant in the fight vs fei, aside from it being an armor breaker which i neglected to mention. Fei doesn't have a projectile to go through with it, and you are really only ever going to find the time to cross up tatsu into super on their wakeup from a throw or sweep. It's a tool, but one that's sparingly used.
You seem to think that i'm saying ryu doesn't stand a chance or something. I've never said that once. It's just a difficult fight. Many many other players have that same opinion, and while i didnt play the game nor keep up with it in vanilla and i don't know who played him back then, i know that the common consensus for fei beating ryu has been that way since super. Fei has always been strong and his tools have been the same. His place in tiers has been more due to people shifting around him. Yes yes it depends on player skills...that always matters in every matchup
lol.
That being said, if Daigo and Fuudo fight again in this series, i could see Daigo winning. His ryu is strong enough to beat Fuudo. He seemed very hesistant to take risks, and took them at odd times, and obviously his execution was off. If he had connected his links like usual, he wouldn't have died from harsh ultra punishments. His dropped links were the main reason he lost, both for damage and losing momentum. I'm not making excuses for him, because he deserved to lose with those faults, but i know it's not typical of him so i expect a stronger showing.

I really feel bad to say this, but perhaps this is the beginning of Umehara's fall...
Even though he won some matches with Ryu, it won't be enough to pull off a major tournament as Ryu is far from being overpowered and has tons of even and bad matchups...Feilong is dominating Daigo for a while and unfortunately as it seems he will continue to do so...and not to mention seth is kind of character who is nightmare is right hands... poongko/ kazunoko evidently distinguish themselves to be in higher league than rest of the players which now includes daigo himself
Even though Daigo plays 24/7, 363 days a year, and as a result his execution is top notch, he is 30 year old and simply put he doesn't have the reaction time of a 24 year old...he is facing resistance from younger players, with the talent gap being getting shorter day-by-day.
In the beginning, like couple of years ago, the competition for gaming tournaments was high...but in today's scenario it has reached a much fierce level with new player with some innate ability coming forward every now and then...

It sounds like the 2nd half of the league (the offline knockout part} is FT6 but you need to win 2/3 sets to win.
Like Godsgarden Online 2, the 2nd half is where the real tournament starts.

@164
Yea I kinda agree with you its a battle for space, but that is in the case of all characters, fei is a footise rush down type that needs to get close and personal to do damage hence he's main tool is rekka, however shoto characters can utilise projectiles, if in the right hand can keep a character out for a long time, block takes chip damage which you can see from top play its the least best option, most people do forcus backdash or neutral jump, I didnt say fadc forward dash because fireballs recover fast (works better at long distance) that by the time you dashed, you will see another fireball coming, a good shoto player will always recover first after throwing a fireball if they fadc dash and will get the frist jab in no doubt, also Ryu's ex fire ball is extremely fast which counters fadc dash anyway, also Ryu is good at all distance, its not like putting him in the corner will get you much advantage anyway besides he cant back dash, but hes back dash is not that good anyway.

@165
At 29 years old with a Mid-high Ryu, he took Evo 2010.
It's not like he won any of the Godsgarden or other solo tourneys in Japan the last 2 years for this to be alarming.
He was never unbeatable in any game and there were always other top players battling for the top spot.
No top player ever is. Even Ogawa lost in GG, even MOV and Nitto lose in 3s, even Mago and Bass lost in CvS2 and so forth.
Sako is as old if not older, and he does not lose because of reflexes, that is for sure.
You people have a very barrow view of the competition in fighters, methinks

@ SuperStraightFighter i dont use fei or ryu so i dont know who wins but people didnt start saying fei beats ryu because of fuudo. it was when mago destroyed daigo at godsgarden and daigo, air and others listed the match at 7-3. then at canada cup daigo resorted to counter picking. i dont know about AE, this was super days

-R- Agrees with me. He chose Daigo vs Uryo as the best match of the night.
In Shiro's opinion, the best match was Uryo vs Kazunoko. He liked the fact that Kazunoko had such a hard time and it had been quite a while since Kazunoko struggled so badly in a matchup.
I think Uryo deserves the name "Showstopper," since he always is always involved in the best matches.

FYI every episode of that stream require purchase a ticket to watch, and you can re-watch the recorded video with the ticket before it expired (April I think). Topanga ban youtube upload is because they want people buy ticket to watch those replays. Perhaps ppl can upload again after all those shows are end.

@ 210 Mirroring the video does not make a difference anymore...and besides ov3rheadgreg was stupid to upload the videos in the first place. Topanga made it a PPV and then ov3r thinks he can go ahead and record the footage and upload it to Youtube to make his own money from it (since he's a Youtube partner) which is pretty damn lame

@228 QuikZilver - Daigo won today, so he's no longer a fraud. I am sure if he was 0-4 you would still be talking.
@222, Daigo needs to work on his Ryu? What advice would you give him. Maybe you could post some replay of YOU playing ryu and we could see what he should do differently? You Clown.
Everyone at this tournament is really good. Daigo and Kazunoko are the players to beat. It doesn't mean they can't be beat it just means they are the favorites. This is because of their records vs the rest of the competition.
If the favorites never lost, there would be no reason to ever play. That is what makes it fun to watch.

All I'm saying is maybe he should step it up to The Beast we all know and I'm not saying that everyone there is going to be easy to beat but the thing is the way I see it is his Ryu isn't as good as he once had him maybe cause he dropped him for Yun I dunno just doesn't seem the same.

Mago was considered a god back in the 2d fighting game era when he used to play CVS games hence his nick name mago2dgod. He beat fuudo in first to 10 kumite match in fei mirror not too long ago, and he is probably the first one to put fei on the map in SFIV games.

If i purchase the plan for all of the rounds, the one that's like 40 something, are all the archives there from round 1 as well? I wanna see these matches so i figure a purchase might be worth it for so many.
The character selection is nicely varied, and most of the players are (or at least near) the top representatives for their respective characters...though maybe not kindevu for cammy, but he is a great player. He just doesn't show her maximum potential, but he is good enough to compete with the rest. I feel like we are watching how matchups truly play out in some cases.
If Alioune were playing Cammy, it would be perfect for me. And mike ross playing honda, lol. I love watching mike ross take on international players for some reason.

In (probably badly) translated English, the site says that the first two episodes are "exposed to time-shift" for people who purchase a season pass. Then it says at the bottom: "Tickets for this broadcast is available for purchase on March 31, 2012 23:59. Also, the time shift is available April 07, 2011 23:59."
How do time-shifts work, exactly?
Posted by dietsunkists2 on January 21, 2012 at 6:52 p.m. #256
time shifts just mean recorded programming

I have already said this twice. This is the last time I'll say it.
If you buy the whole package you WILL be able to watch the streams at any time until the end of April, but if you are having a hard time buying the whole thing, you'd never find the archives. It's definitely not friendly to people who don't understand Japanese. I speak almost fluent Japanese, but have a hard time with the Kanji. Took me about 10 minutes to find the archives.
If you want help with registering and buying the tickets, send me a message on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/user/SabishiiRyuu

That last round,, haitani just used yomi perfectly,,
Posted by SabishiiRyuu on January 22, 2012 at 5:05 a.m. #283
RF has a problem with his internet so they've skipped Tokido vs. RF and Fuudo vs. RF, but they've also skipped sako vs. Mago for some reason... The schedule is all over the place lol.
Posted by abirzenith on January 22, 2012 at 5:07 a.m. #284
Tokido VS Uryo?? was this supposed to happen?
Posted by SabishiiRyuu on January 22, 2012 at 5:09 a.m. #285
Yes it was supposed to. After Fuudo vs RF. They've switched around some matches.
Posted by abirzenith on January 22, 2012 at 5:10 a.m. #286
Uryo is Doing much better against tokido it seems
Posted by SabishiiRyuu on January 22, 2012 at 5:11 a.m. #287
Uryo seems to know everything about the Akuma matchup. Always a step ahead Tokido. Aside from his demon, Tokido hasn't been able to do almost anything.
Posted by abirzenith on January 22, 2012 at 5:12 a.m. #288
although im rooting for Uryo,, Whats tokido doing? this is not like him,, he getting Bodied!
Posted by boulderabuser on January 22, 2012 at 5:12 a.m. #289
Poor Tokido. I can't believed he had play against 8 people in 3 days. It's safe to say he isn't getting first and maybe he'll settle for 6 cents.
Posted by SabishiiRyuu on January 22, 2012 at 5:14 a.m. #290
Tokido really picked it up in the last game, but the "P" and Uryo's last round comeback ruined him. Another great set.
Posted by abirzenith on January 22, 2012 at 5:15 a.m. #291
3-0 uryo won! but still expected more from tokido,, this tourney has been a nightmare for him :P
Posted by SabishiiRyuu on January 22, 2012 at 5:16 a.m. #292
@boulder: he's leaving for a Tournament in Germany so he will finish all of his Round Robin matches today. He'll have 11 matches by the end of the game.
Posted by SabishiiRyuu on January 22, 2012 at 5:17 a.m. #293
Sako with that combo video.

Oh that explains it, Thanks, SabishiiRyuu.
In other news, Tokido got R Kelly(ed) again :( .

Mago seems a bit angry :P
Posted by SabishiiRyuu on January 22, 2012 at 5:23 a.m. #296
This seems like a really bad matchup for Ibuki.
Posted by SabishiiRyuu on January 22, 2012 at 5:25 a.m. #297
OK wtf just happened in that round? too many crazy sh_t for me brains to handle...
Posted by abirzenith on January 22, 2012 at 5:26 a.m. #298
Mago really stepped up his game it seems,, sako is having a lot of trouble getting his mixup going
Posted by SabishiiRyuu on January 22, 2012 at 5:29 a.m. #299
A hard knockdown is all Sako needs. I don't think it's just Mago. It's also the matchup as well.. At least that's what Ayano-san(SF4 co-producer) and -R- seem to think.
Posted by Wbzz on January 22, 2012 at 5:29 a.m. #300
@296
Yea it is a bad matchup.
Let's go Sako!
Posted by SabishiiRyuu on January 22, 2012 at 5:32 a.m. #301
As you could see, Fei Long's pokes seem to have more priority than Ibuki's.
Posted by abirzenith on January 22, 2012 at 5:33 a.m. #302
yeah mago takes it,, Good Solid Gameplay from him
Posted by SabishiiRyuu on January 22, 2012 at 5:35 a.m. #303
Because of RF's internet problems, they've replaced his matches.
Tokido vs. RF and Fuudo vs. RF are removed from today's card. Instead Bonchan vs. Haitani and Bonchan vs. Mago are added.
Posted by foolly on January 22, 2012 at 5:35 a.m. #304
Tokido and Mago are looking overrated as hell!!
EventHubs, youre ranking is wrong. you do it by wins, not percentage. points = wins.. Kazunoko has 5 wins, he should be #1. Fuudo only has 2 wins, why on earth do you have him as #1? 5 wins is greater than 2 regardless of win percentage which shouldnt even be a factor when he's only played 2 games. hey, its your format so nvm
Posted by abirzenith on January 22, 2012 at 5:37 a.m. #305
#301,, Yeah and Mago Just kept pushing towards the corner,, Sako tried to get out of there and got punished a few times
Posted by foolly on January 22, 2012 at 5:37 a.m. #306
#304. my bad tokido, not mago
Posted by abirzenith on January 22, 2012 at 5:39 a.m. #307

@308: Thanks for the correction :). I know Yoshiwo's Guile. I just don't recognize his face.
Bon-chan's sagat is so beautiful. He uses his pokes so well. This whole tournament has been an eye candy for any SF4 fan.

@334 yeah man,, cant disagree with u on that,
Posted by SabishiiRyuu on January 22, 2012 at 6:21 a.m. #338
@335: You're comparing a League which runs for a month including arguable 12 of the best players in the world with an open tournament with more than 2000 participants that's over in 2 days.

Posted by SabishiiRyuu on January 22, 2012 at 6:24 a.m. #340
Uryo looked way too panicky in that last round, but he was the only one to take Fuudo to the brink of defeat so far. It got me into thinking. Has Fuudo lost any singles tournament since EVO?
Posted by abirzenith on January 22, 2012 at 6:25 a.m. #341
YEP fuudo won just like i thought

Who would've thought that Mago and Tokido would be fighting for $1.
Posted by foolly on January 22, 2012 at 6:32 a.m. #344
#340 Fuudo hasnt lost any major singles he's attended in SF4. he stated in an interview he is 3 in 3. starting from WGC in france back in vanilla.

@348 Of course they are interested in SF. Justin Wong said at SCR that he takes AE2012 more seriously than UMvC3...because it's the 'more important' fighting game.
Posted by HolyGhost on January 22, 2012 at 7 a.m. #353
Its important cuz its ''street fighter'' and its ''worldwide''
Justin didnt took Marvel seriously at Evo11, and he lost.
Hes gonna lost Evo12 too
Posted by GldTsunamiV68 on January 22, 2012 at 7:02 a.m. #354
@ 133 Rose is not arbitrarily good against Fei-Long. Positionally whenever in the corner that matchup does go to ass for her, because defensively she really has to struggle to mount any type of escape. Fei's rekkas are still stupid effective because of space control and overall safety. That said, I love my Rose, and probably have a much more solid one than you brah. <3
Posted by SabishiiRyuu on January 22, 2012 at 7:05 a.m. #355
that was pretty pathetic defence by Daigo... He got grabbed over 10 times in the last 2 matches.

Daigo losing... AGAIN
Posted by warriors on January 22, 2012 at 7:06 a.m. #357
Mago beat Tokido , I give up, I will main Fei.
I used to main him anyway on Super Street Fighter 2 on the SNES, so ... it wont be like I am selling out
Posted by SimSimIV on January 22, 2012 at 7:07 a.m. #358
Rather get grabbed than to take a counterhit combo in the face I guess. Kindevu was just good at mixing up, and shows why Cammy is a great character in v2012.
Posted by warriors on January 22, 2012 at 7:08 a.m. #359
@356 , but he lost to Cammy, which makes it okay, he should main Cammy now :)
Posted by Rettaka on January 22, 2012 at 7:10 a.m. #360
It's cammy...you rather get thrown than eating a full counterhit combo.

@354 rose is good against fei because of
1. her long reach
2. her drills effectively punish missed rekkas and missed anything from fei
3. Ultra1 one of the easier ultras to get fei

Rose is good against Fei because she can use her slide to beat Fei, ex drill is a good wake up tool against Fei, if he tries dping ger drill will go straight through it if timed right and free punish, and she has better normals to keep Fei at bay.
Posted by SAMURAI on January 22, 2012 at 9:29 a.m. #374
Rose is good in the right hands. Luffy made Mago's Fei look free. 5-0 in money match.

Posted by Wbzz on January 22, 2012 at 10:05 a.m. #376
Tokido is overrated? Because he lost to some of the best players in the world?
In a tournament with that many killers and such high level of play...that's what happens sometimes.
So he loses a few matches and is 'overrated'...Next time he wins he is 'godlike' again...yeah!
"Posted by shin_ono on January 21, 2012 at 4:34 p.m. #247

You can always tell if Daigo lost a match or not by the amount of comments.
Win = almost no comments.
Loss = 50 comments about how much Daigo sucks now.
I like how there is only one negative comment about Tokido who is 3-7. No one ever mentions that Tokido always does poorly against world class opponents. He only really excels against USA players.
Mago is not a fraud. His matches were very close. Generally he is very strong vs top class opponents. I don't see how is getting exposed at all. He's 4-3 against the best in the world.
Posted by viisii on January 22, 2012 at 11:37 a.m. #385

yea winning godsgarden is nothing
Posted by WinstonChurchill on January 22, 2012 at 11:55 a.m. #386
It is a bit sad how all the gimps come out the woodwork when Daigo loses.
But Tokido's got a lot of personality and seems pretty likeable hence why people are quiet when he loses. Got to disagree that he only does well vs world class opponents, the guy always places highly in most tourns.
Posted by Getdownbrown83 on January 22, 2012 at 12:10 p.m. #387

4. MCZ|Tokido (Akuma)
EVO 2011:
5. MCZ|Tokido (Akuma)
GodsGarden 4:
4. MCZ|Tokido (Akuma)
Season's Beatings Velocity:
4. MCZ|Tokido (Akuma)
CanadaCup 2011:

That's quite impressive if you ask me!
Posted by NerfGuile on January 22, 2012 at 12:35 p.m. #389
@388: I didn't write tokido is overrated. I wrote he doesn't get and BS when he loses like Daigo does.
Of the tournaments he entered and Daigo entered at the same time, did he ever once finish higher than Daigo? And yet Daigo gets crapped on in every thread even with 1 loss, while Tokido get a free pass.
Actually has Tokido ever finished higher than other Japanese players at any tournament? I am not saying tokido sucks, I am saying that the posters here are ridiculously biased against Daigo and Mago for some reason.

the whole daigo flamewar started when poongko won against him @ evo. everyone (especially americans, who got bashed for years by daigo, sry) turned into poongko fanwh*res, after evo, daigo beat him twice in ft10 and ft20, and all pongkofans where like: that means nothing, poongko had a bad day, 1 win @ evo proofs much more (LOL), balblabal, seth is lowtier (yeah tons of ex moves, all ex moves are invicible, 1000 mixups possibilities etc, but low health, still makes him a good character).
come on, i mean poongko is a sick player, but there are a few other players which deserve his status.
community always hate on japanese top players, which loses in a tournament
Posted by Brandisimo on January 22, 2012 at 2:31 p.m. #397
Wow does this kinda feel like deja vu to anyone else? Daigo's ryu has always kinda had problems certian matchups, cammy, fei, Viper, Sim, i feel if Uryo had played Viper we might be seeing 3-3 instead of 4-2. Throw in top teir dalsim and it would probably be even worse. Daigo would probably like to switch to Guile for that Fei matchup.
Posted by Super_Honda on January 22, 2012 at 2:34 p.m. #398
Hmm, come to think of it, Tokido needed a win so badly and he beated Fuudo. Great win for Tokido, personally. Actually guys, do you remember when Tokido wanted to face Fuudo a couple of months back and I think it was around GG 4 tourney's time. Unfortunately, he lost to Uryo so he couldn't face Fuudo. There's an interview of Fuudo, saying that he didn't want to play Tokido because he couldn't handle Tokido's style of play. Looking at the standings, if it wasn't for Tokido, Fuudo would've been undefeated and I'm not making excuses and I'm not a Fuudo fanboy in case you lot wanna know lol. Fuudo's crazy when it comes to big tournaments. Kazunoko did very well and Mago made a great comeback too. I hope replays will be uploaded soon enough.
Posted by EnsignHiro on January 22, 2012 at 2:39 p.m. #399
Personally im glad tokido took the fuudo match because i understand they are all high level players but everyone has a weakness and we just saw fuudos. he cant handle tokido style play well considering he just lost every game to him he just played this tournament. Its good though because we can see the records of everyone playing everyone! Its too much chaos but at least its so entertaining to see that even players at a high level have problems in certain areas too.

Tokido did play against Fuudo @ Godsgarden 4. He lost 2-1.

Posted by foolly on January 22, 2012 at 4:37 p.m. #402
@ Wbzz wow you guys cant read, look at what you started. NO ONE called tokido overrated. but the results was like 2 wins and 7 losses so as a joke to counter the daigo hate when he loses, i said hes LOOKING overrated. LOOKING, i repeat LOOKING overrated. obviously i didnt mean he was actually overrated got damn. u sensitive posters. Tokido won gg2 and tournies in both EU and USA he is not overrated. its like u cant even say anything on here as people dont read and just twist your words.

@#403 Almost all of the players have been dropping combos. But yes, the 2nd half of the tournament should be interesting to see if online affected anyone's performance.
Posted by fireinthehole on January 23, 2012 at 1:07 a.m. #408
@400
Yes, Fuudo did beat Tokido at GG4, but that was AE-Vanilla before Fei Long got nerfed.
In AE-2012, Akuma is top-tier but Fei is no longer top-tier.
Posted by kilaskil on January 23, 2012 at 2:25 a.m. #409
This kind of tournament brings the finest players together,it's not surprising some players have troubles to win.Look at Tokido matchs:Sako/Haitani/Mago were very close, but unfortunately Tokido lost.A part is a lack of luck, and some wrong guess.
At this level, most of matchs are very close, and Tokido can correct himself since next rounds are FT6.
Personally,I think Tokido has a lack of experience in AE 2012,he plays UMVC3 a lot,I remeber Tokido loosing badly at the first Godsgarden online (FT10),he wasn't able to qualify for the second round.
But I would be really curious to see Roku in that league.
Posted by Donchilio on January 23, 2012 at 2:38 a.m. #410
@#409 Technically the next part is going to be FT12 since they need to win 2/3 FT6's to advance in the offline knockout league.. that's if the information we've received so far is accurate.
Posted by scytheavatar on January 23, 2012 at 5:48 a.m. #411
I still have a hard time understanding all these claims of Akuma being top tier in AE2012..... my first impression upon seeing the changelist is that he's screwed badly by the no overhead palm nerf. It's a big nerf, as bad if not worse than Cammy's Spiral Arrow nerf in AE (and look at how much more viable she is with her SA back in AE2012). Thanks to it his vortex game is nerfed big time. You have guys like Sako and Daigo who were planning to tier whore Akuma eventually dumping him in the rubbish bin, then Infiltration seems set on using Gouken as his main, while Tokido has been struggling with Akuma in AE2012 and was previously spending time on Seth. Yet Akuma's top tier?
Posted by kilaskil on January 23, 2012 at 7:21 a.m. #412
@411
Akuma is still top tiers in this game.
Not the best at all, but in the top 5 easily.
I doubt Infiltration will switch to Gouken, and if yes,it is not because Gouken is better than Akuma...
Seth,Cammy and -maybe- Viper are above Akuma.
Tokido is not at his better at the moment.
Posted by Fivec on January 24, 2012 at 10:24 p.m. #413
I just saw the Round 3 matches... Tokido vs. Fuudo was the biggest blow-up of the entire league so far. I'm pretty sure Fuudo didn't take a single round off Tokido, got perfected, and got trolled for a time-out.
I think overall, Bonchan has given us the most entertaining matches so far. That match against Kazunoko to start things off was nuts.

Good thing that Haitani proves himself to be one of the best (maybe the best) Makoto's on the planet. LMFAO at everyone who said he was gonna end last place.

Even the commentators didn't expect the table to look like this. The standings look quite strange. Everyone over here already had Haitani as the last spot and now he's sharing the 2nd spot with Sako. Then there's the likes of Tokido and Fuudo performing not as well as expected.

Momochi got his long time revenge on Daigo!
last time they'd fought was during earlier godsgarden when Momo used to play Ken, and he lost badly to Daigo's then deadly Ryu....
Seems like the fate has reversed. Go Momo!

people got on my balls because I started saying daigo was overrated and that there were plenty of players in japan just as good or better
think these results are proving that.
daigo is good at winning western tournies against americans only and BP griding in the arcades but when it comes to competing against his fellow countrymen, he fails to stand out.
daigo is the overhyped, mainstream monstrosity that the sf community has created. it's time some other players got the respect he gains. If any player deserves to have his nuts sucked all the time its sako, not daigo.

The Evo Champ himself said Daigo's the best player out there.
You can keep hating on him as much as you please, top players consider him the best. Their judgement is worth something, yours... well you can figure that out right?
Posted by onostolemybike on January 28, 2012 at 10:02 a.m. #503
@501
if he can't link then just do a DP, its his own fault for trying to be flash and fancy. Sometimes its better and safer just to go for the easy combo options. Links don't add that much additional damage and they can prove to be extremely costly if messed up
Once again, its daigo's fault for trying to be too flashy. It's time be accepted that he doesn't have sako's combo execution.
Posted by onostolemybike on January 28, 2012 at 10:08 a.m. #504
@502
he's just brown nosing daigo, most these players do so they get invited to these invitational tournaments.
Besides, fuudo seems to be struggling, even getting exposed I might say. He rode an extremely OP character in AE so I don't really care what fuudo thinks/
Most players are in no position to make a name for themselves because of where they live. It easy to be well known if you're japanese.
If fuudo lived where I did, he'd be a nobody too. So you can stick your judgement card up your arse.
Posted by goukibuki on January 28, 2012 at 10:12 a.m. #505
It's almost like people forget that the next stage of the tournament is a FT6 and you have to win by at least 2 games.
Expect players with strong mental toughness to come out on top.
I don't expect Sako and Haitani to perform as well in the next stage, as their characters are better suited to blow you up quickly with some level of gimmicktry(granted Sako's footsies are out of this world).
With that said, I hope Sako wins the whole damn thing and blows up Daigo in the next round tomorrow.

That's right. And besides that, not being used to online play is no excuse. Daigo himself said that the internet in Japan is so good that there is no difference.
And he played a lot online, or are there still people here who think that gameinn is Daigo's friend?
Posted by NvhA on January 28, 2012 at 10:17 a.m. #507
Round 1 - ooh, daigo a fraud.
Round 2 - ooh, stay free 2d fraud. fuudo is godlike!
Round 3 - ooh, stay free tokido.
Round 4 - ooh, go momochi. stay free daigo!
Round 5 - ooh, I never doubted Haitani! stay free Daigo.
I wish calling someone a fraud is a bannable offense here. Its tiresome. This is a league consisting of 12 outstanding players, everyone will lose every now and then ffs

rf and bonchan are both frauds who rode vanilla sagat and have never really proven themselves at a tourney level, especially post super
why where they invited? to pad daigo's wins probably
funny how mochi wasn't invited, I guess daigo doesn't want any bad matchs up in this tourney.
Posted by TheMasterPlayer on January 28, 2012 at 10:32 a.m. #510
@onostolemybike #98
go suck Sako's nut's then. every time Daigo comes up you talk about Sako and how he is so much better than Daigo. Are you in-love with him or something? The way your "praising" Sako's skills is just as annoying if not more annoying than this senseless fanboys or haters hating on Daigo and telling him a fraud and all sorts of stuff. Well you know what kiddies, Daigo or any other players on this event can beat your a$$e$$ in this game 20-0. So calling someone a fraud knowing that he is so much better than you is ridiculous. go play online and keep playing online. Cause by the end of the day you all know you need pros to teach you how to play this game. Stay free and salty

You don't care about him, when he's won... everything? Guess that's the best a nobody can come up with to justify his hate for someone he doesn't even know.
And what the hell is with the "if he was born here" crap? You suck badly at fighting games, you are not on par with the cream of the crop, and you're blaming it on your background? Clearly all those players are strong just because they were born in Japan right?
Lol you even suggested Umehara invited people and dictated matchups, how much do you hate the guy? You must be getting your ass whopped by online Ryus much!

if each and everyone of these guys came to any other place besides Japan...they would simply dominate. you knock out Bonchon? you have RF to deal with. Tokidos out? -6, Eita, etc... (and they didnt even join the tourny). no one is a fraud in this tourny. the only frauds on here are the 12 year-old scrubs calling out top players as if theyre nothing. thats like some idiot saying "Kobe sucks...Lebron is the best." even if Lebron is better, it does not necessarily mean Kobe sucks. everyone who called out a top player as a fraud (who wasnt joking) is an idiot and a fraud. EH community is so stupid sometimes. there are some smart individuals in here, but they are DEFINITELY in the minority. so much idiots on here its scary.
Posted by BisonBetterBeGoodInSSF4 on January 28, 2012 at 11:13 a.m. #518

Truth is Daigo is the "best" even now he's got the track record to prove it. He's won more tourneys over his career than all of the others combined. It's a reason why even the Japanese call him Kami which can mean gOD. Until they start winning everything like Kami then we can say that they're better till them I'm Srry but Daigo is the "best" if anyone could be considered it. That's just the way it is I know Sako fans want Sako to be the next Kami so bad it hurts but it just won't happen Srry :(
Posted by HardToSayNo on January 28, 2012 at 12:51 p.m. #526
nice haitani beasting.
im just waiting for the offline tournament
Posted by TheShotokan on January 28, 2012 at 1:12 p.m. #527
Yes but that moniker was given to him by Japanese players. You have to respect that, and where did you hear that Sako doesn't practice as much if not more than Daigo. Nobody can get to the lvl they're at without intense practice. Also everyone loses but out of this group as a whole of thier fights Kami loses the less. Sako is good indeed but he's just not and can't ever be Kami I'm Srry thats how it has turned out. Daigo is like goku, and Sako is vegeta of sf. Just how it is :(

"yo makoto and ibuki have been underrated since super its annoying, this here could talk a new tier list"
or maybe...just MAYBE, its the players. Cammy was made "broken/OP" in Super because of Sako. anyone Sako, Daigo, PoongKo touches is automatically considered broken because nooby scrubs cant take the time to dissect the character and learn how to beat them. this generation of gamers is so pathetically weak its embarrassing for the old school players to keep playing. how you guys live without whining and bitching is beyond me.
Posted by TheShotokan on January 28, 2012 at 1:51 p.m. #531
@534 ok now you're being disrespectful I'll speak any which way I choose calm down before you embarrass urself. I see it the type if person that puts on the tough facade but is really a big cry baby. The type the throws hissy fits when u don't like someone or something. Kami is the best just deal with it. Even Sako respects him as such.

Damn Daigo dropping those combo. I seriously believe that Daigo would be doing better if he wasnt playing online, I mean that online timing is throwing him off big time. His dropping so many easy combos. But who knows, maybe it wouldnt make a difference.
FYI- Sako dropped Cammy in a heartbeat after she was nerfed, and picked up her up again when she became "better".
To the guy that said that there were no Japanese besides Daigo in EVO 2009, your wrong. Takashi Hukishi was also here, hes not that well known but hes a freaking good. He placed top 8.
Posted by yamazaki on January 28, 2012 at 2:15 p.m. #535
i'm an ume-fanboy but it's safe to say as good as daigo is he's never been the best at any of the games he plays, except maybe VS (although i actually think sako is). however his track record can't be denied; he's been a multi game champ for decades.
i think peyton manning is overrated. i think albert pujols is overrated. i think manny pacquiao is overrated. i think sf4+ is overrated. etc.

Haitani is doing so well at the moment. I'm very impressed with him. Looking at the competition in Japan, I'm not too surprised by that because all 12 of those Japanese players are capable of winning this league. In fact, a lot of talented Japanese players are not in the league. Here's 1 example: Fuudo wasn't well known until he won the Evo 2K11 AND GG4. I don't think no one would thought that Fuudo would win, considering that a lot of well known Japanese players were in those 2 tournaments, especially Evo 2k11. This goes to show that when Japanese players like Daigo, Tokido and Mago don't win the tournament, there's usually another Japanese player who comes in and takes that 1st prize. If Haitani wins this league, he deserved it for this performance.

Yeah, come to think of it, it's scary to see that Japan has so many good players. Don't wanna sound like I'm sucking up to them but its true. I would to see those players. Personally, I would like to see Akimo being invited, 1 of my favourite players. His Honda is awesome, especially his Dee Jay.

@#530 How does Sako not play all that much if he has over 40000 matches played over XBL?
Are you saying it's his friend playing on his account?
Sorry but Sako plays just as much as all the others, the only difference is he plays endless instead of ranked or at the arcade.
Posted by Smorgasboard on January 28, 2012 at 6:50 p.m. #548
These are some of the best players putting on high level intense competition. Why can't people enjoy that?
Anyway, Haitani was voted in for Godsgarden4 so maybe it's just the lack of exposure that made him look underrated.
I understand if you want to support your favourite player but dissing the other players won't gain you any respect. Everyone is a legend in their own right.
The matches are quite hype as they are so i'm not hurting for more character variety. I'd like to see more players during the next league though. Make it bigger.
Posted by bananainsaneface on January 28, 2012 at 7:19 p.m. #549

@560 GW,
Uhhh... No, he isn't trolling... Sako did come to America I believe in 2010to participate in Norcal regionals and/or evo.. im not quite sure which of those two... But he did come here a few days before those said thournament/s and in money matches as well as some casual matches he did get bodied by Jwong and some other players.. at that time his main was Cammy
Posted by Donchilio on January 28, 2012 at 8:51 p.m. #552
@#561
Socal Regionals 2010, Sako lost to Jwong in winners and losers for their pool.
ReveLAtions 2011, Sako lost to Clakey D in the Ibuki mirror and to Ricky O in losers.
It's just too bad Team Hori was mismanaged by Tournament Legacy since if it wasn't we would have seen Sako at a lot more events(Evo, Shadowloo Showdown, etc.) -_-
Posted by keebler on January 28, 2012 at 9:25 p.m. #553
Lol that guy isn't trolling about Sako. Sako has amazing execution, but the guy has gotten bodied numerous times. Point is that everyone has gotten rocked. That's just how it works. There are so many armchair quarterbacks on this site, it's ridiculous. I used to think SRK has some whiny people, but this place is way worse for some reason. When i come across things on SRK that i disagree with, at least they tend to have some sort of point or evidence to their argument. You really don't find anything like that here. I love this site for what it is, but sometimes i feel like a glutton for punishment sifting thru the comments.
Anyway, I dont really see anyone running shop in this competition. It's rather back-and-forth so far. If anything, i think this tourney is a testamant to the decent balance in this game. A rather nice variety of characters trading off wins, without one player being overly-dominant.
Posted by bananainsaneface on January 28, 2012 at 9:28 p.m. #554
GW's little fanboy heart just got crushed by facts. Sako got exposed when he came to America. Why do you think he hasn't come over here since?

even though we have no yun in this event, just imagine that if this wasnt ver 2012, we would have no cammy, ryu or seth but instead 3 yuns.
Posted by foolly on January 29, 2012 at 1:43 a.m. #557
i recall sako coming to revelations and owning, going undefeated in casuals. the matches are out there, all FT5s. he only lost in the tourny format which is a FT2. anyone can lose with that format. At SCR he didnt get bodied. if i recall he won all his casual matches except against Justin and Tatsu. i believe he was even with marn. that isnt getting bodied losing only 2 matches to 2 great players.
commenters always like to exaggerate things about players they dislike to keep these fanboy wars going. so childish

they also in AE and they needlessly ruined cammy's regular cannon strike abilities, she is not that strong !!!!

@abir yo, that is the point. ever wonder why mago decided to enter with Fei :-)? sagat's hitbox is just too big... so he is like at least 4-6 disadvantage against mixup characters.

The remaining two matches will only determining two things.
Whether Haitani or Sako will be 1st
Whether RF will be 11 or 12th.
Daigo will remain 3rd whether he beats Sako or not.
RF will remain 11th even if he beats Haitani.

They deserve each other
Posted by NvhA on January 29, 2012 at 7:16 a.m. #638
warriors, not exactly. It depends if Mago can defeat whoever comes below him first.
Posted by akatruthteller on January 29, 2012 at 7:18 a.m. #639
so how do they determine who move on to the second phase?
maybe give a wild card to tokido?
Posted by NvhA on January 29, 2012 at 7:18 a.m. #640
Apologies, one correction.
Daigo can fall as low as 6th place should he lose, depending on GD.
Posted by sagatee on January 29, 2012 at 7:19 a.m. #641
Why Daigo, RF, Sako and Haitani only have 10 matches?
Posted by NvhA on January 29, 2012 at 7:20 a.m. #642
@653
The second phase will start with 12th vs 11th.
The winner will proceed to fight the 10th place and so on.
Whoever is 1st will only need to play once to win the whole thing.
Currently Tokido is #12 but I've no doubt he can rise as 7th place where he will meet Mago.
Posted by NvhA on January 29, 2012 at 7:21 a.m. #643

Haitani is 1st and will be the last man standing for Round 2.
RF vs Tokido will be the 1st match in Round 2. Whoever wins will meet the 10th place, Kindevu.
Now Daigo need to win or else he will drop to 6th place.
Sako will remain 2nd regardless of the outcome.

@ the_truth all im trying to say is sagat is overrated. no need for irrelevant comparisons lol. my logic is so many top players use sagat unlike makoto and yet he cant win anything. look at how fast mago dropped him lol. makoto is just underrated and hardly ever used by these top level players at tournies, so her potential is still untapped/unknown to a lot of communities unlike sagat. i dont want an argument dude, leave it at that.

Great tournament. No need to hate on any player. Nobody is a fraud. They are on a similar level and everyone can beat everyone on a given day. Daily shape is a big factor if players play each other on the highest level. There are now so many players on a high pro level, it is no wonder why "big" names like Daigo or Mago do also lose quite some matches. They can still win tourneys, and chances are high they will, but they can also end on the bottom of the ranking in a high caliber tourney like this. The actual top3 are suprising though, im glad Uryo is doing so well, his Sakura is extremly entertaining to watch.

Posted by Smorgasboard on January 29, 2012 at 11:10 a.m. #687
I made a table of the rounds each character has won against each other. It's just data so take it as you will.
http://postimage.org/image/gheyc27ln/
Tokido wasn't doing well against Cody, Ryu, Sakura and Seth. At best, he'll be eliminated by Daigo. My guess is that he'll be eliminated a lot sooner.
Kindevu's main problems was Cody, Ibuki and Makoto. If he does exceptionally well against Momochi and good enough against the rest, he might make it to final 3. But with his current performance, Momochi will be his last match.
Momochi only lost badly against the top 2. If he can close the gap against the rest, he'll be top 3 for sure. My guess is around top 5.
Both Fuudo and Mago got beaten by Makoto so top 2 is very possible, especially Fuudo. Mago is unlikely to do better than Fuudo.
Sako's biggest problem is Kazunoko who may not even challenge him (see below). If he can manage to avoid Kazunoko, he just needs to edge out Haitani.
Haitani just barely beat out the three people below him in the rankings and there is also Daigo. He's still the man to beat but if Fuudo or Mago makes it to him, he'll have a lot easier time.
Daigo is going to have a hard time winning it all. Unless he turns on the magic in the elimination round, I don't see him making it past Fuudo.
Both RF and Bon-chan have an uphill battle ahead of them. I see them ending up around 6-8th place at best. Bon-chan will probably end up higher.
Uryo has no significant threat directly below him but faces a tough challenge on top especially from Sako. I predict top 3 and maybe even take it all.
Kazunoko still hasn't figured out how to beat Sakura. What can I say other than a top 4 finish?
In conclusion, Sako will probably beat whoever that challenges him to setup a final against Haitani. My prediction is for Haitani to edge out another victory to win the 555,555 yen.

You dont get my point.
All i wanna say is if you keep pay to this streams, then almost every good tournament stream will have a price.
If you keep give your money to this money monkeys, they are gonna want more.
Who do want to pay for Evo 2012,final round, socals etc...?
What is better than ''FREE''?
This topanga league is online.
And it has ZERO hype.
After i see it @dailymotion i said ''hey this is just a good sf gameplay, f*ck this''

Posted by spotlesseden on January 29, 2012 at 11:32 a.m. #692
entitlement is worst in this community. SC community over fighting game community. They want everything free. Alot of SC big tournaments are pay-pre-view. They donated over 200k to Japan. FGC 45k lol
Posted by keebler on January 29, 2012 at 11:42 a.m. #693
@705
People hear have been quoted saying at points there were over 80,000 viewers. That's more than EVO2011 during the AE finals. How is that "zero hype?"
And yes, a few streams have asked for money, albeit small amounts, and some have had questionable quality (Canada Cup) that need to be worked out. But you should just enjoy your free-to-view now. Things will stay free for the most part in the mean time, but as the fgc grows, events will grow, production values will grow, stream quality will need to grow, etc. Eventually, you will need to pay for more things.
It's not like you have to pay much either. Even if you pay for the whole Topanga league, it's like over 40 dollars for how many sessions worth of high level matches?! It's a decent deal for what it is, if that's your interest.
I can only think of this league, SBO, and HQ Canada Cup stream being PPV in the past year. You have dozens of other streams throughout the year to watch for free. No need to complain about the few.

Yes. It's going to be Ft6 but you need to win 2/3 Ft6 sets to advance. Also they have a deuce rule so if the score is 5-5 you'll need a 2 game lead to take the set.
Having said that the offline matches could potentially take forever to complete due to the deuce rule.

I agree with you. SC, Dota, LoL or CS tournament streams is FREE after... 12 years of Major Tournaments with over $100000 1st place prize? They didn't ever need get paid by stream viewers, but first Dota 2 tourney had 1 million dollar prize money.
Again, their HD streams on 4 languages was totally FREE.
A least, Topanga could have hosted this league without any payment. Now everyone going to make us pay for watching tourneys. I don't want to pay. I would rather play for my pleasure.
