Topanga League tournament feat. Daigo, Tokido, Momochi and more

Beast Note has revealed and translated the details of a league series organized by Topanga TV. The series will be 12 episodes long and feature an online tournament between top players using a league format.

Participating top players are in the list below. This tournament starts on Friday at 10PM JST (Friday 8AM EST) and will continue every weekend until February 26th.

Fuudo (Fei Long)
sako (Ibuki)
Momochi (Cody)
Kazunoko (Seth)
Kindevu (Cammy)
RF (Sagat)
Haitani (Makoto)
Bon-chan (Sagat)
Uryo (Sakura)

Rules of the tournament are that the first 6 episodes will be a FT3 between players using a round robin format. The last 6 episodes will be a FT6 with deuce rules, meaning that you have to win with a gap of at least two matches between you and your opponent to take the set.

The events will be streamed on Nicovideo and it costs 500 Yen ($6.50 or €5) per episode or 3500 Yen ($45.60 or €35.50) for the full package of 12 episodes. If you can navigate Nicovideo's payment services you will be in luck. Hit the jump to see more details.

i would gladly pay if a) there was an easy to navigate, english site and b) there are archives i can watch at any point in the future. otherwise it seems like it would be too much of a risk with not knowing japanese and the time difference.

So if I'm understanding this right, it's essentially two tournaments broken up into six-episode segments.

It's ridiculous to have to pay to watch this. Is advertisement not enough? That's not f*ckin' cheap either! $45!? That's 45 f*ckin' movie rentals from Redbox.

I doubt I could even navigate the site if I intended to pay.

you guys have to understand that this is on nico nico for a reason. this is for their japanese audience, which are already used to paying for these big events. if it was for us, it would be streamed on twitch and not nico. yeah sucks to be us, but im sure they will cater to their western market somewhere down the line

I've considering contacting TOPANGA and ask them to use twitch.tv for their streams as an alternate.
They'd definitely get a lot more international viewers who are willing to pay but are not able to because of language barrier.

But I think they have some kind of deal with niconico like how Twitch and 8,95 Cup had some sort of deal.

Sounds very cool - an amazing set of players - love the idea of a RR league. If I had the money, lived in a similar time-zone and didn't think the language barrier would be a problem, I'd definitely buy it.

this is not for oversea people because they know you guys will be butt hurt about it. Charge money to watch stream is very normal in Japan Nico Nico. I'm not just talking about fighting games stream. They stream many different kind of events. Some of them are free, some of them you have to pay to watch. like(Fashion show. Star Craft 2, j pop concerts)

Look here snitches- for those who are interested like me, you need to go on nicovideo, create an account (which is in english), get back on nico and buy points (via the link). You pay everything in pts like xbox. HERE's the THING - it seems that now til the 31st, you can get 1000pts for 150 yen (as opposed to 1000yen). I don't know if there is a limit but just FYI.

It's still a much better deal than the $8.95 spent on Vesper. That was a blatant rip off - false advertising.

If VesperArcade was running this, they would promise Daigo and Sako, and give you Air and Gootecks :). Then when you point out that they are scamming everyone, you get banned from the chat. All for $8.95, which you won't be getting back, lol.

$33, i actually followed the link and watched SBO 2011 . the stream is pretty lag free, but the commentary is definitely not english. Also, in SBO, you only get to watch what is being commentated, so multiple matches are going on at the same time, you only get to watch few of them...

I may watch the first stream to see what is up. eventually though, i guarrantee you it will make it to sites like youtube or youku(chinese web) because this is the case for SBO.

@28 and people wanting to utilize the 1000pts for 150 yen discount, you are only allowed to buy the "1000pts for 150 yen" once per account.

So the cheapest is 2650 yen for single account, or

If you have 6 different accounts, 900 yen = six 1000pts to view the 12 shows individually.... or people can pool this way if they want.

Or wait for youtube... but Topanga is giving out alot of money to the players so you could support them if you want.

1st place 555,555 yen, 2nd place 100,000 yen, 3rd place 50,000 yen all the way down to 12th place gets 5 yen...

Keep in mind that from what I've seen, NicoVideo isn't exactly known for providing great quality streaming. Japanese Internet should support 1080p easily, but good luck getting anything close to HD on Nico.

Whiney Americans are too accustomed to getting everything dirt cheap. You are spoilt. The current petrol (i.e. 'gas') prices where I used to live in the US is $3.45 a gallon. Where I live now (UK) it's $8.19. You guys don't realise how good you have it.

I just calculated what the gass price in Norway is (from Kroner per liter to dollar per gallon) and I was astonished!
This is no joke btw: In Norway we pay 8.95 dollars per gallon (I calculated this from 14kr/l)
