anyone know which release of Xmen VS SF that is?
Man gotta love a guy named vulcano rosso with a bomb ass pompadour (and weird fashion sense). Anyone know the sunset stage's theme is called by chance?
@1
It's not trolling. It's all business.
Easier games make more money. More people are willing to play a game if the learning curve isn't as steep.
Why do you think Call of Duty is so popular? Anyone can pick up the controller and play. They might not be pro level, but they'll probably have fun playing it.
Games like XMen vs Street Fighter and MvC2 were all on the arcade. Games that were designed for the arcade scene were deliberately made more difficult to play because it made arcades more money. More money arcades made, more likely they would buy your machine and your games.
Nowadays, the arcade scene is pretty much comatose. There are a few left, but those are extremely dependent on the community to keep them alive.
Hence, games are designed for console gaming and not everyone wants to play a console game that takes ridiculous amounts of time to get good, just to play with some friends via XBL.
TL;DR?
Short Version.
Games are easier nowadays because console gamers want an easier games to play. Easier games = companies make more money. Older games were harder to play because harder games made more money for arcade owners who, in turn, bought their machines from game companies.
Fighting games of today are much easier because that's where the money is at. The casual market is much larger than the hardcore scene.
@11
I don't know why facts like this need to be continuously stated. I thought that people would get the idea by now. I don't even know why I made the comment I did. I always feel like I say the same thing over and over, but some people just don't get it.
The goal of a company is to PROFIT. Capcom is a GAMING company. I don't know why people get surprised at their marketing strategies.
@11
The problem with that argument is that Street Fighter IV is easy to learn with plinking and easier to combo Ultra's etc (compared to 3 at least) but hard to master master (true plinking, option selects, not to mention reading your opponent). It's also why I could probably only beat Daigo once every 50 matches.
NOW If you mean with the addition of Ultra's then yes it is easier for crappier players to bridge the gap. I personally think that Plinking/Double and True versions are great and make the game much more accessible; which brings me to...
I think what maybe you meant/should have said is that MORE ACCESSIBLE GAMES make more money (it's also why flight sims don't earn much money - because they are f*cking hard to learn). THese games aren't easy in terms of strategy by ANY stretch - they are just easier to get better at.
Let's be honest for a second here.
The new generation of players would crumble if they laid their hands on these games.
For crying out loud look at the EVO 2012 lineup. Games that require at least some amount of skill are nowhere on the list *cough*BLAZBLUE/AH3/MB:AC/TEKKEN*excuse me*
#15
The only reason you say those games don't require skill is because you keep losing at them.
Not one of the games being featured at EVO this year has an "instant win" button. They all take time, dedication, and skill to be decent at.
Stop blaming your losses on the games and start blaming yourself.
Anybody know why Dictator doesn't have a SFA sprite like everyone else?
I've tried to get Eventhubs to feature Ex2 before. I'm happy someone sent in these tips.
@20
Because that game needs a feature? Lol, 3D hit boxes and jumps that look like your fighting on the moon.
Let's be real here for a min. EX had a few good features, but the total package is about one level above SF the Movie Game!
Nostalgia has rotted your brain. I played the EX series when it was NEW... I ran screaming for the nearest SFA or SF3!
I bleed SF. Best series EVER! But even I can admit EX was Capcom/Arika's shoddy attempt to cash in on the Tekken/Virtua Fighter market.
These games were so Effin weak. Just go play Rival Schools instead. Those graphics blew balls too. But at least they got the Gameplay Perfect.
Flame on... Good day.
Oh no i know what you mean. Nostalgia hasn't rotten my brain. I just wanted to see it on Eventhubs eventually.
Meteor's falling from the sky & the earth exploding when you do a hyper = the greatest thing ever.
@ 17
WOW if you dont shut up you retard. You out of all people cant talk or add an opinion on anything there is actuall proof of you RAGEQUITING AND CRYING because you suck soooo bad in mvc2 online. STFU noob. Sf4 is crap brain dead easy for these new age guys. Theres nothing wrong with it, untill people like you show up. the guys who have suck soooooooo bad in everyhting then this one game comes out where you can win WITHOUT DOING THE CORRECT COMMANDS!!!! Yaaaaaaaaaaaa woooooowww. thats a great game. LOOOOK GUYS IF I MASH RANDOM BUTTONS WHILE BLOCKING I CAN DO RANDOM SRKS. Im one of the "good" guys now. Now i have a voice in the community.
I dont really care about the whole New age vs old battle but people like Noizy child make me hate you guys. Here is examples of why his input means nothing.
there are COUNTLESS other videos but these are a few
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQXO-X...
mvc2 ragequit-as usual
Hell yeah I actually like the ex series, ex 1 was a horrible mess but they cleaned it up by ex plus alpha. And if anybody here knows that series well you can see how many if the moves that are original to that series were put in sf4. Wish they could get some of those characters back I love em all. But hate that kairi killed Akuma that's totally Lulzy. And garuda being all the souls of the fallen satsui no hado fighters wrapped into one guy is pretty dope imo.
@28
Yes, moves like Focus Attack, or at least an early version of it, were in EX first, as well as Super Cancel, which was a first in these SF games, not SFIII. And some Level 3 Super Moves are just as ridiculous as some Ultras in SFIV series.
Also, the trail mode in SFIV looks a lot like the original training mode in the EX games, which was way more comprehensive back in the day.
NoizyChild wouldn't know what skilled play even is, considering that he's never had any.
@ kolbe hell yeah bro! Also zangeifs ultra 1 is from ex, guiles, sagats, chuns, I mean the list goes on and on bro! The training mode the character select for super/ae/12 also. I would love to Have that game remade! So many awesome moves and new completely different characters its a treasure to me. Can't say enough good about it!
I come from the old age and boy let me tell you the old age. I was born when Street Fighter 1 was made. Played Street Fighter 2 in the arcade till my folks got me it for SNES on christmas.... Honestly its really sad to see how much has changed. Not in the games but the people. Is this how we really want to be looked at as a community? A bunch of whiny, picky close minded and most of close gated community? It's fine if you don't like a game that's whatever but to constantly wish for a game to fail just because it doesn't cater to you is just wrong. If you wanna bring up the whole Capcom is greedy argument then you didn't know em in the 90's. Making the games purposefully difficult to rake in more cash. Each one of those cabinets was a gold mine for arcades.
@ angrysteve what are you talking about? Nobody said anything like you said. Born in 89 eh? So u were about 5-6 when sf2 hit the scenes? Lol yeah that's old school alright. I got a benji that says your a casual @ best. Prove me wrong and fight me. Danny2times on psn, bring it, don't ding it, we about to flood deep kid.
I've watched a good portion of that EX2+ video now, and I have to say, at least as far as viewing enjoyment goes, it is better than Super Street Fighter IV. =P
#38 First of all the first street fighter was released in 1987 so I'm 24 if that helps. SF2 hit the scenes in 1991ish to 1992 if I remember right. In the arcade it was mostly me and my friends who were also the same age *I come from a small town* Secondly I never directly said it was anything anyone said in this article but just the comments I generally read here on this site. I applaud your wanting to fight me in the game it really take me back to the old days of how we used to settle our arguments. However I'm not going to fight you because simply put I don't fight online I keep it local. You were right though Mr.2times I am casual I don't play competitively nor do I ever plan to I just love having fun with these games they are one of many reason's me and my friends get together. So yeah call me whatever names you want I don't care as I did not come here looking for a fight just to talk.
Looking at that combo video makes my heart ache. Come back to us, Juggernaut!
I don't know about games getting easier, I played all the way back to sf2 on my famicom and theyve changed loads but theyre all still pretty easy to get into but almost impossible to master. The SF series have all been really good games and stand the test of time.
Only thing is... did EX2 really look as bad as it does in this video? I remember being blown away by the graphics!!!
#35
Pretty sure I can wipe the floor with you for free.
@ angry Steve lol just messing homie, no name calling its just I talk street n shoot. Sol good fo nobody. Long as we b reppin the same set we's blood deep. U up on some casuals throw me a hot one, I be down to hit the bag fo a bit. One love.
@ moistychild you is a wanksta! Send dat invite kid we's bout to ball!
I agree with the a couple of comments on here..the only thing that has significantly change for fighting games is the community that represents them. The current generation do not want to learn match ups but instead whine and complain for balance changes - most notably degradation to their most difficult match up. They always lost the fire to beat a strong opponent, they prefer to shy away in cowardice. For the community to evolve they mindsets need to change.
@ akumous are you serious? You boot players that beat you! Are you describing your self!? Seriously man! I've fought your entire team if you use Akuma its a game of keep away with air dokens and backward teleports! Your yun is just random jumping and his Target combo! Your makoto is random jumps with her axe kick and oh forget it. I'll post the fights on the tube and a link here.
Another fraud talking like he's good but can't back it up to save his life!
Also this akumous scrub sends all kinds of rage mail ill post those too.
Capcom vs SNK 2 is old school? Jesus I must be getting old.
@DinosaurCop
Yeah, I thought old school was SF2, Fatal Fury, Art of Fighting, Samurai Shodown...that type of thing.
the only problem with getting good at these games that took more "skill" is that its hard to find people to play. Sure I want to get better at the older games, but it's kinda discouraging when your friend that hasn't laid hands on a fighter for years is almost unbeatable at third strike once he gets warmed up. The newer games are more accommodating to newer players because there are more new players just like them to play. Oh yea and remember to conform to the other player's playstyle at all costs, or receive hatemail; you have been warned
#52
Exactly. People enjoy playing people similar to or slightly above their skill level because it helps them learn and get better at their own pace. Plus, they get to be a part of the metagame as it evolves.
People don't really play 3SO or MVC2 anymore because they don't want to play a 12 year catch up game, facing people that will stomp them into the ground in seconds.
@1: Well, sorry brotha, but it's true. I got a lot of cats around my way that'll give me a run for my money in SF4 and MVC3 - but pop in A2-3, 3S, CVS2, XVSF, and they're fish out of water!
Don't get it twisted, SF4 and MVC3 are great games, and any one who says they dont take skill to play is a ruh-tard. But no one can deny that compared to games of past, they are a cake walk for people to jump in and make a name...
#55
We're pretty much on the same page. Thanks for seeing my point.
@55,56
The major difference isn't the games. The difference is accessibility. Your friends probably feel like a "Fish out of water" because they've never played those games. I'm an experienced FG player since 1987, born in 79. And if I played BlazBlue today I'd feel the same way due to the fact that I've never played the game.
Back in the day when we were playing those games they were limited to Your House, My House, The Arcade. Info was sparse. And only the best could survive. It was the Wild West!
Not anymore!
This is the Age of the Internet! The entire world is one big arcade! Information and Technoligy spreaders like wild fire!
Are the games easier today?. No. Are they more accessible to new players? Yes!
And that's a good thing.
Im 27 and I miss those days like a mofo. EX was all fun though. Link super moves together was fun. Blair was the sh*t! However it was just for fun! Cvs2 is classic hands down! Bring part 3! Alpha 3 was the best sf hands down. F*ck iv! As for mvc series I actually prefer umvc3 it's a blast to play easy to pick up and graphics ate on point. Yeah it could use some mvc2 characters but it's still fun. 3rd strike takes skill and to me plays gameplay wise better than iv. I wish Capcom would do another marvel superheros and x-men vs sf though.
@58
Guess what bro. Those games were great back in the day and Sf4 is Great now!
Everything evolves. Cars, movies, medicine, people, GAMES! You probably think a Horse and carrage is better than a Lexus? Casablanca is better than Dark Knight?
Old Music is probably better too right?
Grow up man. Get some perspective. Of course we loved the classics, but saying "Fu<k 4", shows how daft and narrow minded you really are.
And did you really imply that SF Garbage EX was better than SF4? Lol, you've lost all credibility.
Maybe EX was fine? I didn't like it. But I would never have the balls to imply EX was better than Super Turbo. So don't do it to Awesome A$$ SF4!
"The difference is accessibility. Your friends probably feel like a "Fish out of water" because they've never played those games..."
Yes and no. A lot of my friends in question, are my age (29-30) or older, and are very familiar with the classics, (SFII, III, Alpha, DS, CVS 1-2, XCOTA - MVC2, etc...) but maybe didn't put in the effort to be good because I would always run through'em when we played.
Then SFIV comes out, and it's like all that time and effort I put into learning SF as a whole didn't mean $hit, as these cats were breakin' even, or bodying me (until I learned the game anyway), which is a good thing - who the hell wants to play someone who can't hang? But it also proves the learning curves in these newer fighters have been decreased dramatically.
Then I have friends whos introduction to SF is SFIV. Cats in their late teens - early 20's and what have you. Never even touched a SF game until IV. And these guys are breaking even with me, as if they've been playing SF just as long as I have. How much you want to bet, a lot of these players who are "godlike" in tournaments, started their careers with SFIV? and you see'em beastin' on cats like Valle, who's been playing since Bedrock!
Take Mike Ross for instance - I used to hang with Ross at this local arcade in my area (Jamesgames), and out of all the games they had (mvc2, cvs2, 3s, st, a3, xvsf), the only one he touched was mvc2 (and he was decent at best). So as far as I know, unless he was playing in secret, he never bothered to play any of those games. But the man's a superstar in the community now.
The games are extremely easy to play now, as opposed to past games. But I don't think that's a bad thing. The more the merrier, I guess...
You even got 8 year old kids catchin' wreck on grown a$$ dudes lol. I mean, that's cool and all - but you didn't see that $hit back when SFII, SFIII, SFA, CVS, and MVC were in their baby stages lol
@ Aluppoj:
"Old Music is probably better too right?..."
YES! Sorry, but I'll listen to Rakim and KRS-ONE over Lil'Wayne any f***ing day lol
@61 That sums up these crappy games right there.
A 8 year mashing using fighters with RIDICOUSLY STUPID superarmor(another noob helper) doing basic air combos, and using xfactor(which is meant the the noobs who suck at games)is considered a prodigy. LMAO are you serious? EVERYONE is a prodigy at these crappy games. You will neeeeeeeeeeeeeeever see noah beat any body in mvc2.ever. Then you noobs today are such pansies. "Oh please nerf this person hes to good!" "please can we get a update!" STHU!!! Before these crappy games you HAD to be and actually learn. you guys cry over fighters in sf4 like its so bad. You guys are sad. And then you guys talk like the tier list matter and all that crap. STFU THE PEOPLE WHO WIN IS GREAT PLAYERS, NOT GREAT FIGHTERS. Justin could beat everyone hear with vega and that has 0% to do with a tier.
Now here come the trolls saying that players today wouldn't be able to play these games, how they were so great, wonderful, took skill, blah blah blah.
