Hit the jump to see a clip of how Astaroth holds an Xbox 360 controller and performs moves and combos.
Many of you will of course remember BrolyLegs, someone the Cross Counter team brought to the forefront for his strong Chun-Li play with creative option-selects, despite being disabled.
Dissabilities =/= Cannot enjoy things....
This is great! Ive played Broly online and his chun is extremely good. Dont underestimate anyone people!
Fighting game equalvilent to Dave Chappelle's I'm rick james. Stop shouting stuff hoping that what you say next is the new "catch phrase". As for the "disrespect" everyone is preceiving, stop it. I dont' see it. Just sounds like a bunch of annoying people sounding worse becuase of a bad camera. Stop treating Astaroth as if he needs special treatment, in that arena, treat him like anyone else. Props to Astaroth for keeping cool and winning.
@ Mabans: To be honest though, Astaroth has a HUGE disadvantage and he's not even on equal playing fields. It's incredible what he does and we all give props to him. The crowd was being extremely disrespectful even aside from the person they were bagging on was physically handicapped.
Hearing the crowd reinforces the main reason i don't go to tournaments.
thats the nature of the tournaments, $h it talking between and during rounds. everyone should expect this. its what brings the hype. astaroth was the underdog and he had his own form of trash talk.. kicking that a ...s. $ and making akuma sit in that CHAIR! ASTAROTH IS GODLIKE!! GOD JOB SIR
That's impressive. Very impressive. Props to you Astaroth and congrats on your victory. :)
F-ck, I didn't even get past 1 minute before I had to turn that thing off. Trash talking is fine, but those annoying voices, damn.
I hated the crowd cheering in the background. If that even qualifies as cheering. Not only have they never played Marvel in their life (telling Astaroth to stop going for throws since it does no damage?), they also acted like a bunch of f*cking idiots. But I guess that's what separates the big leagues from the 8 year olds.
And yes, that b*tch needed to shut the f*ck up.
Oh, and they made fun of Astaroth for being handicapped. This is embarassing...
Talk was going to both players.
Should we not talk crap to Astro because he's handicapped?
No, he's just like any other player
Does anyone go to tournaments?
im glad people were issuing normal smack talk.
i work with people with developmental disabilites, dont baby them, they aren't babies. Treat them like you would anybody else, if they are in a tournament, TALK $#@%. something people just don't get, they may be disabled, but they are people, and should be treated like people, with regular social interaction, not demeaning baby nonsense.
Yep, I should have guessed people on eventhubs don't go to tournaments. I whole heartedly admit they were irritating, but this is far from a shocker. On the other hand I am pleasantly surprised it took so long to see someone hate on wesker and even then it was a joke.
@34
So let me get this straight. You think that everybody, no matter disabilities, should be treated like anybody else? Your an incredibly stupid person for thinking that.
That's like telling a blind person to stand up and fight. Your view on this subject is wrong to an uncomparable level. It's like your saying, "who cares if this guys is blind, I'll beat his ass down regardless of what he's incapable of."
If your ever in a wheelchair, I hope somebody comes up to you and trying to pick a bone. Maybe then you'll understand.
Aw come on, I've only been to one small tournament, but even I know that there's smack talk from the crowd involved. But that comes with any competitive game/sport. The only thing that makes it annoying is that the crowd is yelling and hyped and they don't even know why (calling the shinku hadoken a kamehameha and not knowing the importance of a grab). But the better man won, so Congrats Astro.
props to astaroth for the sick come backs while dealing with the scum bag crowd I don't think I could be there with throwing a chair at someone.
Astaroth here. First, just to clarify, the smack talk was from out-of-staters, not Tennesseans. If that helps them win tournaments, more power to them. Second, while it was annoying, this type of stuff is heard throughout tournaments. It may not be your style, and it may not be to the degree heard in the video, but it does happen.
if there's anything i love to witness is to see someone who is disabled prove to the world that despite what they lack they can still go for what they truely love to do, disabled people are just as human as everyone else
@31
Hate to break it to you, but those are the general thoughts that run through people's heads when they see a match like this. If you beat him, nobody takes you seriously because he's handicapped and everyone thinks you had an advantage and should have won to begin with. Lose, and you're laughed at because you were beat by someone everyone expected you to win against. I'm not saying it's fair, I'm just saying that's how it is among the average person.
@36
I'm having a hard time understanding how you can be so ignorant. He's saying people, no matter what the disability, want to be treated FAIRLY & EQUALLY just like everyone else. HE IS NOT SAYING to never take it into consideration; he specifically addresses the SOCIAL aspect of it....you, with you're absolutely retarded analogy, make it sound like he's saying it's ok to take advantage of the disability....how did you make a "fighting" analogy out of what is a social, verbal dispute? IT IS NOT AT ALL LIKE FIGHTING A BLIND MAN!!! Like C'mon, post something that shows us you have an IQ above 37.
I hear less Screaming on Roller Coasters than this vid. This guy's so Godlike' .. He didn't even make a mistake it seemed too me. Down right Spectacular how He can Manhandle people like that with an Illness of that nature. Guy's a Living Legend, Astaroth ftw.
I remember playing against Astaroth back when BlazBlue first came out and went to KiT and played against him for awhile. I wouldn't even call his disability a a hindrance at all. He's extremely focused and knows how to play to his advantages. Really awesome guy in person too.
I was at the tournament, but I was doing other stuff at the arcade when that match started. I hear mainly players from ATL area (TooMuchDamage, Raccoon) in the background what little bit I watched. Their smack talking is just what they do at tournaments. They'll even smack talk the Come On Baby game, which was pretty hilarious.
When these guys aren't in their fighting game persona, they are nice guys like most other people.
Those that want to shut him up should make it to Final Round 15 in Atlanta.
It wasn't ALL the out of towners, and if you were not there, please don't judge. This is just under 7 minutes of a 9 hour long tournament. I played my games and finished my tournament many hours before the UMVC3 tourney ended.
Anyway, GS to Lee who's the current man to beat right now in the Southeast in UMVC3. Tables have turned down here for sure. Right, I need to get you the part number of that chair I bought you for our tourneys down here.
God I feel so sorry for American tournament players. I don't care if it's 'hype', people seriously need to sit down and STFU when people are playing. It's so disrespectful and it really is an American thing. You would very rarely see that type of behaviour at a European tournament, and shouting at people in the middle of a match is unheard of in Japan. I guess that's why so many players wear noise cancelling headphones these days. Sort yourselves out guys, seriously!
That is most annoying crowd of children I've ever seen. This is why kids need to shut up.
I can understand being "hype" in reaction to what's going on in a match, but overtly jeering someone every second of the match even when the person you're siding with is getting bodied is just annoying and childish. In the end you also look like an ass for talking so much crap and then getting 3-0'd.
Good stuff, good to see someone going pass their disabilities to proceed something they like doing.
My friend's brother is handicapped (not sure of the proper technical term) but basically his arms are deformed and look like he is missing his arms (this is not to be mean however me trying to set the scene). He doesnt play fighting games but does play cod and fifa (football/soccer games). He basically plays with his feet. I remember thinking this was impossible, that people were going easy and he would be smashed. Next thing i know he is playing all night due to winner stays on rules. He was beasting hard man.
@51 I recently started going to some tournaments and I have to say it is a RUSH to have a group of people watching while OOOHHH-ing and AHHHH-ing every combo/ultra/whatever. Maybe it's just my crowd, but there's never any smack-talk to the actual players, just people getting excited at the match.
I feel that's the way it should be. No player bias, just pure hype and excitement. Both players can appreciate that. I thought the people in this video were pretty disrespectful.
Good Stuff to Astaroth.Tell the crowd that was yellin at you to HOLD DAT! :D
Oh my lord that might be the most annoying crowd of children I've ever heard. Just saying stream monster nonsense and screaming at the top of their lungs.
Cool story though.
