#1 I agree... the whole time I was watching I was wondering where the flash kicks were. He was letting OldType get away with a crazy amount of aggression.
He also could have saved himself a few times by simply walking backwards a little bit. He was down+backing way too much and it let OldType dash in for free.
good matches, i like 2 see this guy play shiro
ACE is one of the best Guile players around, no doubt, but he doesn't seem to have the FK>FADC>ultra2 down. He had the opportunity to use it so many times and even win with it but never used it once. That fact alone makes Dieminion's Guile better IMO.
#7 then why the hell did he not use them when the situation called for it? You know what I'm talking about right? I didn't just imagine all those wasted opportunities. I'm not a Guile user myself but I've been following ACE, Yoshiwo, and Fransujin since vanilla, ACE being the best of the bunch, but I can't figure out why he was...holding back. The only reason I can think of is maybe Makoto has strange hitboxes and FADC>U2 whiffs on her sometimes. Not sure if that's true though.
#9 I guess our theory of Makoto having strange hitboxes will have to hold for now until someone comes up with a better explanation. Actually, come to think of it, although OldType's Makoto is one the best I've ever seen, ACE didn't seem to be using all the tool at his disposal, mainly flashkicks.
Great matches, I simply love this Makoto, I wish I can do those air axe kick perfect angled everytime, sometime the command grab comes out when I want to do it extremely low, I dont think you can do the short cut way like Cammy's instant air arrow as well. btw anyone know why Makoto does the st.hk to the other side everytime after a knock down? Is it to get the timing for a safe jump afterwards or is it like a mixup of some kind or he prefers to be on one side of the screen over the other? I personally hate this matchup when I played Makoto, it was horrible in Super, I believe it was 3-7 or something.
In Super, Makoto was considered to be one of the worst characters. In AE, she was in the top 10. But in recent top character listings from top players, she doesn't seem to be getting any recognition. Is she really that outmatched by other characters? Recent videos with her make me think otherwise.
@11: well, looking at the results from this set, it’s now 7-3 in Makoto’s favor. But it all really depends on how Makoto is played I guess.
That said, OldType is terrific. Normally when I’m watching matches and am not on the receiving end of those combos, I can see most things coming. But after the dizzy in the second video (1:30) I just got lost. No way to be prepared for mixups like that.
@13
I've honestly always compared her to Seth as far as where she is as a character and on the tier list. Seth has repeatedly placed rather highly on tier lists, but let's be honest; nobody really saw Seth dominating the game until AE's Poongko.
Furthermore, it's hard to see Makoto as a good character when America doesn't really have any reputable Makotos, VRyu doesn't really travel (odd since he is sponsored...), and Shiro only really plays in Japan.
But yeah, Makoto really is a lot like Seth; there's only 1 "right way" to playing her, and if you can do that consistently you will win.
I honestly feel bad; everybody spoke on how good she'd be in AE, which is undeniably the best Makoto, yet we never really saw her do anything of note at all.
And then she got nerfed :/
@ mustain21 every time he did a flash kick that could have led to an ultra, the flashkick was done in a big combo. Judging how hard these matches were for Ace, i dont think he wanted to waste 2 bars for such little damage. its wiser to save the bars for a reversal flash kick fadc to make it safe. thats what i'd do anyway
@15
I highly doubt the matchup is in Makoto's favour, due to guile's fast recovery sonic boom covers ground while flash kick and normals covers air, you can see in the video that Makoto fadc dash (fastest in the game) after a sonic boom but still eat the one after it, that is how fast it recovers, also normaly Makoto will use U2 against projectile characters but in this case, there is just no way one could react to a lp sonic boom with U2, it is just too fast. A Makoto will depend alot on her mixups after a knock down which you can see this guile has trouble dealing with.
@foolly #19 I would've thought the exact same thing except there's one problem: why waste two meters to FADC? I'm saying, he FADC'd after a flash kick combo so many times yet chose not to use ultra 2. I wanna know why. In a couple of instances, he could've taken the round or at least brought himself closer to victory but didn't ultra. Japanese Rog players choose not to ultra after a headbutt combo for the reason you stated: damage output isn't worth it so they prefer to use it to either take the round (opponent's health low enough) or after a straight headbutt. This isn't the case here with ACE because he wastes meter FADCing then...nothing. It's weird so I wish someone who's familiar with this practice could explain it to us. I really thought he was messing up his input, hence my initial comment.
Boy... I'm certainly no Guile expert but it seems like Ace forgot he had a fierce button until the last two matches. Very few crouching fierces used as anti-air and very few standing fierces and backfists to keep Makoto at bay. He almost relied solely on flash kicks, which is not Guile's best AA option, IMHO.
Personally, I think Dieminion's STYLE of Guile (lol) would have done better. He's very good at using standing roundhouse/fierce and crouching medium to zone opponents like Makoto who try to get in on him.
Guile looked like he was about to win a match a couple of times!?!? Come on capcom!
Matchup is in no way Makoto's favour, just how exactly its in her favour anyway since I see no clear advantage of her move set against guile? Its also clear to say guile is one of Makoto's worst match up if you've been following the game long enough. Just how exactly is it in Makotos favour? enlighten me experts?
@27
Like I said before, sonic boom shuts down ground while flash kick and normals shut down air, its very hard for Makotos to get in, by your user name I can already tell you will make a biased comment anyway.
And anyone who doesn't play guile will act as though he's
God here because they can't figure out not to jump predictably. Guile needs to play perfectly against the majority of characters because he gets blown up VERY badly by characters who can get in.
He still has all the weaknesses he did in vanilla, plus new ones.
Look at what happened in the matches, that's typical because guile did such poor damage in vanilla, and does even worse damage now. He also has poor combo-ability, so you have to make a TON of mistakes for Guile to win, or he has to guess correctly around 20 times usually.
He guesses wrong once, and makoto blows him up with mixups unless he guesses perfectly again, and she can EASILY stun him and does much better damage.
If you make a ton of mistakes it's your own fault. The character doesn't have a bad matchup because someone won't let you jump in constantly for free.
you can tell ACE is trying to play honorably, but sometimes you just gotta go nuts. a few flash kicks with no meter might help get in OldType's head a bit.
but damn, it really seemed like OldType knew that match inside and out
