Modder hacks an arcade stick to work on the PlayStation Vita

Posted by Nate 'Nyoro' Young • February 25, 2012 at 6:27 a.m. PST
Hardware optimizer imaginglabo has posted a new video where he hacked/modified an arcade stick to work on the newly released PlayStation Vita.

Through careful observation it appears that there is some slight input lag but the idea itself is interesting. He only tests Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 but it's assumed that this works for all games on the Vita.

Kind of like the hack we saw last Christmas, where the Vita uses the PS1 controller. Somewhat awesome.

Does anyone actually use that input config? I never understood how you are able to activate x-factor in convience

Awesome. If only it were a little more compact, I really wouldn't want to whip that thing out on the train. lol

Buy tiny, portable gaming device.

Plug it into huge arcade stick.

Seem legit.

@5
it is probably not intended for casual outdoor use likewhile you are on the bus or something, that would just be silly.

but if you are planning on going camping/staying at a hotel. i think this is much more convenient than taking your 360/ps3 with you. it would also extend the lifespan of your handheld because seriously, any handheld dpad + buttons dont last with fighting games.

if they ever release a usb stick to vita converter (and more fighting games, maybe a port of SSF4) i would definitely get a vita

Sweet. Except, you're obviously gonna use that at home. At which point, why not play it on a 40 inch screen instead of a 5 inch one.

@ #10: Agreed.

Seems cumbersome and antithetical to the point of a handheld. Remember Guitar Hero on the DS? How about hacking it so you can use the guitar controller for it. It would be technically feasible, and technically sound, but ultimately kinda stupid.

@3: Actually some people do, here in Peru 2 of the best Marvel player (and Tekken, they play it too) use that config for playing and for activating X-Factor they put their whole palm on the 4 buttons.

@Jan I've actually heard the D-Pad are almost PS3 quality and the buttons are actually pretty good.
@Thatguyright

Oh god I hope they release an official version of this.

Then allow vita/ps3(..../360/pc :p) cross play
(They've allowed the dlc to cross over so why not? :D)

What I don't get is, does the vita take input from the multiport connector? it must for this to work, but its news to me...

This is EXACTLY what I envisioned would happened. MadCatz needs to get on board and sign a contract with Sony to make a FightStick exclusively for Vita!

Yes. A thousand times yes.

@13 ah right, i remember trying it in vanilla marvel as it is the default config and similar to MVC2. I found it was very hit and miss/inconsistent when trying to activate X-F. I'm not trying to pop shots or flame anyone, just curious if that was anyones preferred/ideal method. Each to their own and that

I would buy day one, especially since vita is getting sfxt with new characters.
