Note that the event occurs in the same weekend as NorCal Regions, so the MLG people are now officially a bunch of liars for saying that they won't put their events on the same date as majors.

@scytheavatar

It Really Does Not Matter Since Only The MK Players Will Go.

@5 It does matter. Can you imagine them have AE and MvC3 in their roster and putting it on the same weekend as Winter Brawl?

@#5

I think it would only matter if top AE & UMVC3 players were ditching NorCal Regionals to go the MLG event. But I dont reckon that will be the case.

Aren't California and Ohio on different coasts? Hasn't there been two majors on the same coast before? Other than Evo, do a lot of players travel from coast to coast? Winterbrawl was the only major this weekend and the only players from the West Coast that I saw was Justin Floe. East Coast players had a weak showing at NCR last year as well. With the MLG event only a month away and announced so late, how many people are really going to drop NCR for it especially when it's such a huge risk?

Bottomline, this is less of a deal than some people are making it out to be.

That being said, all the best to MLG and MK community.

So after "top players," argued that MLG and eSports would help to grow the FGC and other nonsense, the first thing they do is pitch their first event to feature MK at the same time as a major.

The game they are running, who may go to this doesn't matter really. It just shows that MLG have no problem trying to strong arm community run events to further their ambitions.

Don't be so naive to think they wouldn't try this if they had one of the big two games on their roster.

16,700? Weird number to end on dontcha think?? O.o Is there a reason for such a lopsided sum? 10,000/15,000/20,000 etc. I can understand it feels as if they scraped together every last amount of money they could spare to bring about a massive pot for MK players good sh!t MLG, also to anyone on the eastcoast GET.THAT.MONEY! No excuses we Esports now! Esports sports ports ssss. :P

Not that I particularly care, but looking at it from a business perspective, MLG can only work around so many different majors and minors. They feature a bunch if different games and communities and they can't please everybody. Not only that, but the date for this event was probably set in stone long before they announced it or even announced that they would be featuring MK. I think MLG doesn't have half as many major events as the FGC because we have at least one or 2 EVERY MONTH. So at what point would they have a chance to feature a fighting game without either overlapping OR f---ing up their business and other communities. It's selfish of us to ask them to cater to us and say f--- the other communities and any majors they may have too, even though they're willing to work with you and we aren't.

And that brings me to my next point. Nobody has agreed to work with them yet so why change your business plan and model to include a community that ain't even trying to come to an agreement but instead meets everything you do with criticism and skepticism (not that it's unfounded of course but still)? I think if he sat down with some TO's and said "Okay, here's my tournament schedule, what's yours? What can we work with/around or in case there's overlapping (which can't be helped), can players still receive Evo points, especially players who can't travel as easily from coast to coast?" then things would run more smoothly and we wouldn't even be talking about this. But OUR TO's have to be willing and cooperative with them as well. Seems everybody is just being stubborn at this point.

World Game Cup and Winter Brawl literally JUST happened on the same weekend. Shut your mouths you stupid hypocritical bastards.

Some of you seriously hate on things just to hate. The hive mind mentality of the FGC is one of the worst of any gaming community I have ever seen.

It's sad that the damn competitive CoD community can think more rationally than most of you. Most of them aren't even old enough to drive.

That's for a starcraft only event that doesn't even take place on the same weekend. You're a moron.

By next month we'll see who are in it for the money or for the love for the game because I have a strong feeling Justin Wong is going to attend this event.

@10 $550 is hardly "majors" money (in terms of first place). Evo was ~15,000 this year for first place in SF4. Topanga League is $7200 for first place. Shadowloo Showdown is $5000 for first place. (Also qualifying for the tournament wins you a hotel + plane ticket to melbourne which in itself can be ~800$ or more) SCR is $6000 for first place.

What is odd about this, is that typically the breakdown for a FGC tournament is 60% to first place then (2nd)20% (3rd)10% (4th)4% (5th)2% (6th)2% (7th)1% (8th)1%

However this is totally dif. First place only gets 36%. Personally I think it is a bit low but I also think that the standard is a bit high. I think 1st should be 50% then 2nd 23% then 13% then 6% then 4% then 2% then 1% then 1%

Shows that you can at least recoup costs if you make top 6 instead of basically requiring you take 3rd to even recoup costs (and 3rd being pretty paltry)

CEO and Revelations were on the same weekend last year, and the top players got split up. However, the bulk of the "top" were at Rev since it had a 10k first place.

Does anyone know if SOMEONE has WORKED WITH MLG to configure some kinda schedule. Or did we just try to ignore them until something like this happened then get ready to turn on b---h mode? And can someone point me to articles stating both sides of this e-sports thing? that pot looks kinda sexy and props to MK for TRYING to work with MLG. MONEY! MONEY! MONEY! MOOOOONEYYY!

PPV is for another event. MLG Columbus is free watch.

@26
I doubt Justin Wong is going to give up SSF4, UMVC3, SCV and SFxT just for MK.

@29
Apart from a few, most of the top players went to the major on their own coast. CEO had Marn, Floe, Jwong and Mike Ross so that was the event with more cross country travellers. Just look up the archives.

You try to hard to make yourself to seem like a white supremacist or whatever your going for. Considering MK has like only 5 characters I can name off the top of my head that are American and the rest are mostly Asians or undefinable races. Your precious MK is a "chiink" game as well.

I love all the conspiracy theorists commenting on this post. You guys are bona fide geniuses.

It's an MLG event, not a Mortal Kombat tournament. Mortal Kombat is one game that's a part of the entire event. It's ludicrous to believe that they intentionally setup this event to coincide with NCR. Logistics for these tournaments are worked out by the organizers months in advance. Neither the NCR guys nor the MLG guys had any prior knowledge of the others' event when they planned their own event.

And what are you so afraid of? Are you afraid that your favorite players might travel to Ohio instead of NCR? If so, why are you afraid? If I had to guess I'd say you're afraid for your own selfishness. You sit there and watch free streams of all the games *you* play, and then you get butthurt because some top players' livelihoods don't always fit into what you want. They want to go play a game you don't play and you don't want to watch.

There's a reason the more tournament players jump on the MLG support bandwagon the more stream monsters get angry. But you won't call out the players for it because you know they have every right to do what they feel is in their best interest. That's why Justin Wong made $10,000 after devoting his time to MK9 and everyone kept their mouths shut.
