Never been a big fan of this series, but itll be nice to see what they can put into the franchise with the tech we have today. Please no gems.....
I Want To Believe!! But it may and should take years.
I don't want a DarkStalkers with the SF4 engine, stop right there Capcom.
@2 - What, you don't want a muscular Morrigan? XD
Seriously, though, I agree. Whether it's 2D or (most likely) 3D, I hope they go with someone else for the design work.
My friend is trying to prove to me that they are secretly working on Darkstalkers vs BlazBlue. Would that make anyone as happy as it would make me?
jezus fekking christ!!! is negativity, complaining and whining all you scrubs ever bring to the table? stupid wankers go cry a river, frikking eventscrubs.
capcom just registers a trademark and all you babies do is whine. jeezz
Doesn't matter what game they could ever make people would just whine and cry and rage people will never be pleased bunch of spoiled brats
Capcom better.
The only reason I'm ignoring SFxT outright is because they BS'ed the entire DS community with that insipid ransom after Ono gushed on about another entry for years with false promise.
Don't get me wrong, I'm still not touching SFxT even if they DO finally get around to making a new Darkstalkers somewhere in the future, but it's only due to capcom's unprofessional dishonesty.
I respect, play and enjoy both Tekken and Street Fighter franchises equally, but I sure as hell won't tolerate ANY company leading on hundreds of thousands of franchise supporters only to have their hopes pissed on by some circlejerk marketing ploy.
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS if its true capcom is making a new darkstalkers I will for ever love capcom even if the new DS is not that good as the old ones I dont care I just wanna play anew darkstalkers man first capcom saves us from e-sports now this? man capcom is on a roll lately
i hope ono isn't producing it. i also hope that they wouldn't do the releasing version after verions tatic.
@Santaclaus #5
I would usually kind of agree, but you were really the first one to start whining here.
Its funny that the same people that are posting a positive remarks about Darkstalkers "Oh please Capcom make this game" are going to be the same ones who are going to bash the hell out of this game the moment they reveal some gameplay. We don't know if there is going to be another dalkstalkers but the cycle always begin this way, people begged for a new street fighter and you have people bashing the hell out of the SF4 franchise and Ono, if it wasn't for this guy the fighting game genre would still be dead.
@9 ono never promised nothing, it was yourself and other fans who have pre-ejactulated early over a mention of the game, changing potentially into definite. Ono wants darkstalkers to see a new release, the thing is does capcom want to risk it. Darkstalkers was never a major income for the company, just a cult following, so capcom have the rights to doubt the potential success as a company with the current climate and booming trends of fighting games.
Ono was trying to drum up some potential hype and fan feedback/backing to show capcom that they should think otherwise. Tbh without Ono showing any interest, this would be another franchise which would collect dust in the vaults. If anything Ono should be considered as a saviour to you lol.
@20 As oppose to shooters, where there are millions of them more than fighters?
@20
Sigh.
On topic: Whatever kind of Darkstalkers game this turns out to be, I hope Jedah's in it!
@bullitt23
Hey, calm that venom off your keyboard for a second and pay attention to what happened over the course of the years after Vanilla SFIV was announced. (Not Released, Just announced.)
I'm not entirely arguing against some of your statements, but what took place was still completely unfair.
Ono's run his mouth around over 50 times or so in front of cameras and/or in interviews and spouted his so-called "desire" to create a new Darkstalkers game and kept on it to try drumming up support whenever he had the opportunity.
Ono DID had the support from the DS crowd and even got a strong petition going for it, but the problem here was (based on Ono's wording) Ono needed to get suddenly raised to a million AND buy SFxT all in the same:
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/201...
"If this doesn't do well, then my ultimate dream, Darkstalkers, will also flop. This has to do well and then maybe next."
Ha ha.
No.
That part right there is what made absolutely no sense considering how he reinforced that somehow SFxT's success is a requirement for a new Darkstalkers game to exists without being a flop when Darkstalkers has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH EITHER FRANCHISES INVOLVED IN THE CROSSOVER TO BEGIN WITH. Not Ono nor the rest of Capcom have any business mentioning that Darkstalkers relies on an unrelated title for success by any means. That would be as dim-witted as saying Tekken Tag 2's Success depended on how well Soul Calibur V did. (But you definitely won't hear or read about Harada saying anything as cracked as that.)
This is why I refuse to support SFxT, because that was a paper-thin scum business tactic that they didn't even bother with apologizing for.
I'm not one of those elitist dimwits that only care about character selection based on tier lists and I don't waste my time speculating on who will and won't be included in whatever titles. What I DO pay attention to is the details that matter most and the details of SFxT's development smells of (censored) and (censored) because of the cowardly way they've chosen to "relay the message" to fans instead of embracing the DS franchise and it's fanbase they created.
I'm half-tempted to believe they never had any intention to bring DS back and likely tried to use the base to artificially boost the sales to attempt justifying a SFxT sequel. It isn't all that difficult to imagine since everybody suddenly seems to be in a rush to try to somehow compete or beat CoD/MW3's sales figures. (...half-tempted to believe it.)
I'm down with this as long as Capcom takes their time and not try to rush the game out.
Just hold on for a few years Cappy. Don't want to flood the market. I'm happily entertained with the current fighters for the time being. But a new Darkstalkers sounds fun. But please~ please please take #2's advice and change the engine and visuals. We don't want a SF: Dark Edition. Then again I'm speaking for myself here.
@Jake_da_Thrilla
Actually, no. Don't tempt Capcom with 'general ideas' because nowadays, they'll just do something completely derpish like making it exclusively a 3DS title and then toss it under the bus for bad press. (Like how they released Chaos Tower on PSP and a PS2 compilation in JP-only already.)
It's not that there's anything wrong with the series, it's just that Capcom's never really cared to direct any real shape or form of legitimate advertising/media support for it at all in order to gain recognition.
They actually went further out of their way with almost every other game they've released to ensure that it got some form of time in the spotlight, but really never bother to raise awareness to Darkstalkers at all. A 3DS/PSP/PSV/strictly JP release is not exactly helping things.
For starters, if they did character/stage reveals like SFIV/SSFIV did and ensured the game got at least a PS3/Wii/whatever release (As long as it was a bare minimum the major home consoles got it) that would at least make up for all the failings of Capcom's handling the franchise in the past.
I'm actually super excited for if this means what it seems to mean. Darkstalkers is one of my favorite fighting game series of all time, as I've always had a love for beast characters, and DS has plenty.
However, as someone pointed out, I'm concerned that it will follow one of two examples from past treatment:
1) Be a sequel/compilation that only is released in Japan or
2) Simply be a port of an older game for the newest system (PS Vita)
However, my optimistic brain keeps me very hopeful here and I really want to see them do more with such an inventive franchise :) The Darkstalker series paved the way for the crazy stuff in the Vs. games and actually helped completely change Capcom fighters. It'd be interesting to see if they try to be equally as creative with a brand new game in this day and age.
I've always felt that Vampire Savior/Darkstalkers 3 was the greatest fighting game of the 90's. The characters were very cool and the backgrounds were crazy.. (c'mon the baby fetus stage is diabolical!!)
http://darkstalkers.files.wordpress.c...
All Capcom would have to do would be to create a modern game with all the characters from the link I just posted plus more if they felt like it. I would love to see Jeddah, Q. Bee, Sasquatch, Anakaris and Rikuo with today's technology/graphics.. would be S.A.F.
@18 i agree use the TvC engine, that would be perfect.
I'll be happy as long as it doesn't follow SF4's art design.
I'm not whining and I'll probably buy it if the gameplay lives up to the past DS games.
But please Capcom, don't take the same art direction as SF4, IMHO the characters look ugly has hell. They are way to muscular and just a turn off. The only character that I liked (in terms of appearance) was Ibuki, hence I main'd her.
I'm in agreement with a poster above, I have always genuinely liked the Darkstalkers series more than Street Fighter: the artwork, animation, soundtrack, creativity, etc. Almost each time I've played Darkstalkers (even to this day), I see something new I had never noticed before.
If this news is a hint to a new one coming, then I'm ecstatic. I am among the many who do NOT want this to be in 3D art style like SF4 or UMvC3. It really would just lose something, and characters who morph all the time (Anakaris, Lord Raptor, Huitzil, Pyron), I'm not so sure would come out right. I would hope they would do something similar to dot-art like KOFXIII. Here's to keeping my fingers crossed they'll keep it sprite/2D/pixel based... *sigh*
What is all this speculation and talk about? This "news" (if want to call it that) isn't even close to a clue about a new Darkstalkers, This doesn't mean anything.
Capcom will never make a new DS, thus Capcom will always suck a$$
Eh, probably a preemptive thing. I don't think this means that there's any solid plans. I mean Capcom owns the IP for Darkstalkers, it would be pretty terrible if someone else trademarked the name (say for some crappy iPhone knockoff game).
@#15 I didn't say anyone was whining in the comments of this post, I was stating that if there is going to be a new darkstalkers, the same people who is raving for a new one is going to be the same ones who will bash it in the end like MVC, SF4, etc.

Ps. Guest star rare street fighter characters as unlocks. Ya know trough hard work and determination. I suggest M.Bison, Violent Ken "Psyho Ken, from SVC Chaos. And perhaps for the marvel side guest star all time favorite X-Men antagonist Sentinel. And of course Deadpool.
Yeah. Forget X-Factor, and Wolverine like touch of death free combos. Let's see a real deal Darkstalkers 2v2 cross over game without the casual comeback factors. And maybe some creativity with the choice of a one on one battle.
Just a random dream.
Oh. And re4 Leon as dlc. I'd pay 5 bucks for that...
Maybe re2 Hunk. Just give them marvel 2 Jill valentine esk moves.
@#25 Capcom is a business and if any business develop a game based on what every fan want when its not the best financial choice then these guys would be out of business. There is a lot that goes into development including resources and what team should create the game, yes SFxT success is decided on the revival of Darkstalkers because if you believe it or not SFxT is a big gamble they are taking because of the new things that other fighting games have never done before such as the gems etc.
SFxT is an experiment title, the name alone can make them more money than what DS could ever pull in on just its name and if its a success then they will add some new features to a new DS game. They are trying to evolve the fighting genre, and they have to make games that they know will turn a profit from and sorry DS fanbase is not as big as Street Fighter, Marvel vs Capcom, Soul Calibur, or even Tekken. Thats why they are releasing the PSN of the original to see where they stand with this franchise. Like I said before the same fans that begs for a new game from a certain franchise are the same ones that ends up not supporting the game because X and Y was left from this game, FGC and even the VGC as a whole is very fickled and really don't know what they want.
That is why Capcom and other companies take little advice from fans and do the rest on their own, I remember back in the day these companies weren't even asking for fan input or even reveal any gameplay until the game is officially released and we the fans just played the games, now they ask for fan input and we the fans act like these companies owe us something.
If the fans want to see a new DS game then they have to make an impact and support the older titles on PSN and other venues, it work with Tatsunoko vs Capcom and it Work with Xenoblade Chronicles for the Wii and thats why we finally had release dates for the US for these games. The DS fanbase isn't screaming loud enough for Capcom to hear you.
@MugenLord
None of that has any bearing on what was stated nor does it change what took place.
Besides, it isn't that the fans aren't speaking loud enough, it's that Capcom actively misdirected an entire supporting community by making use of Ono as a mouthpiece to tell DS fans to 'rally up and get ready to buy....something else unrelated to Darkstalkers or else you'll never get it.'
Keep in mind, Ono kept it in the context that an two unrelated games hinged upon each other for success when Darkstalkers was actually being demanded in the first place, immediately after SFIV was first announced. While TvC and MvC3 were already both acceptable and justified at the time, Ono teased the DS fanbase with his so-called "Ultimate dream" game long enough to imply it was most likely the next logical step until it went revealed that it was something entirely different and unrelated.
There isn't any way to excuse the way they mislead the DS community without sounding like a total (censored) so Capcom just didn't bother and ignored the responsibility of coming clean. It's just plain inconsiderate and careless.
Agreed with the above. 25 has no idea what he's talking about. His thinking is very shallow. And video games isn't a shallow buisness.
#53
....you agreed with me, then disagreed with me.
I'm stunned.
I'm going to repeat it because it's starting to become apparent that nobody's responding before grasping the context of what I'm saying:
SFxT is NOT MvC3. MvC has bearing on DS because Darkstalkers characters are actually represented in the game. This is NOT the same for SFxT.
>>SFxT being a bomb doesn't mean a new DS game will be a Flop, which is precisely why Ono had no reason to say something like that.<< It's entirely illogical and completely bogus. You don't need to be a developer or an industry expert to make sense of something that simple.
1:Not talking about the depth or shallowness of business. I was referring explicitly to the brazen (censored) of Capcom for pulling the stunt they pulled in the first place. It was inappropriate and completely dishonest to the Darkstalkers fans. They've made just about the same amount of noise for a new DS title that got TvC brought to US, but there's still no budge from Capcom.
(The only thing that would be worse at this point is if DoubleFine took the million-plus fundraiser money they just got and ran, not bothering to make anything.)
2:It's made all the worse that Capcom is using Ono to play it off with this lame show he's putting on to joke his way out of it. Apparently if people laugh at him enough, they'll forgive Capcom and forget it ever happened.
3:Capcom made significant efforts to bury the issue as if it never occurred. They Un-stickied the Darkstalkers support thread on Ask-Capcom TWICE with lazy/fake excuses for why, then eventually moved the thread so people would have difficulty finding it. (Unironically, it was the thread with the most posts.) At the end of it all, Capcom-Unity ended up Purging 9/10ths of the Ask-capcom threads off the boards (recently) to mask how a good deal of the popular/important DS question threads got deleted without justification. (Not locked, Just completely deleted. The one thread posted in which was moved had a mod explain that 'ds questions only need one thread' which was senseless seeing as how there were multiple RE, MML3, MvC/UMvC3, DeRi and MH threads in the same place unmoved and undeleted.)
No, seriously, go see the Ask-Capcom thread now.
http://www.capcom-unity.com/ask_capco...
If you don't want to believe it. See for yourself. Be sure to check the mod responses in Blue.
4:Not Ono nor any other of Capcom's staff have ever gone on record to address why Darkstalkers caught a backseat to a crossover OTHER than MvC3 (because DS is represented) so late in the game, especially since Capcom wouldn't have had to worry about licensing Namco's properties to make Darkstalkers. It was mentioned far too many times earlier by developers long before SFxT was even heard of or started development. (especially seeing as Ono was still talking about DS before SFIV even had revealed Rufus or El Fuerte.)
5:None of Capcom's staff appears to have any intention to apologize to the DS fans that Ono had lead on.
"but you're thinking shallow and business is-" SHUT IT. The bottom line, plain and simple, is that Capcom deliberately lied to the fans just to ensure they could make a quick buck off of SFxT. The fact is that the time, money and development that Capcom spent on designing all of those Tekken characters in the SF style could have gone right into making characters/a game for Darkstalkers instead AND THEY WOULDN'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT LICENSING AT ALL.
'Shallow business?' My (censored). It's nothing but interest of effort and nothing more.
All this excess pushing they've been doing to ensure Daigo/other players got early opportunities to play it and this new 'cross assault' series to help draw attention to it? It's all advertisement that could have just as easily been used to advertise Darkstalkers instead.
No matter how you think you feel about it, it's guaranteed that Capcom won't bother to try drawing even half as much attention to a Darkstalkers title as much as they did for SFxT. They just aren't interested in putting ANY effort into it at all and it shows. Heck, even the DS3 PSN release went off so quiet, barely a head turned to notice. Add this up with the horrible mishandling of the PSP game as well as the PS2 compilation release being JP-only and you have the gist of why this negativity exists.
I'm not sure why any of this continually needs explaining.
And don't even start with that "entitled" crap, either. There's a huge difference between a company knowingly laying breadcrumbs and elitist fans complaining about heroes and heralds/gems/overpower~underpowered characters/tier list shenanigans/glitch cancelling/broken game mechanics and whatever else.
The difference is that one of those two things was done willingly with ill intent and was an utterly reprehensible display of business practice.
So, no. I'm not touching that FILTH Capcom calls SFxT, Period. No amount of blathering on from any other man, woman or god is going to change my tune about it, either.
Got that?
