IGN & GameSpot: Skullgirls release date end of March for both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3

Posted by SFilp

IGN and GameSpot both have the Skullgirls release date on the index of upcoming releases.

The date on the actual Skullgirls page still says Quarter 1 2012, but if you go to the upcoming releases you can see that both the Xbox 360 date is set for March 30, 2012 and the PlayStation 3 version on March 31, 2012.

3 weeks after SFxT, dunno if it'll be catched by a big portion of the FGC.

Maybe when there's a complete version.

I doubt that's the actual release date. Looking at the large list of games listed for March 31, it's probably just a placeholder date for any game that's announced for Q1 2012. Besides new console games and PSN releases come out on a Tuesday in North America. March 31 is a Saturday.

I think this is a "generic" release date because 30 and 31 are friday and saturday and we all know that PSN store updates and Xbox Marketplace updates are during the middle of the week.

@2 The game will supposedly have a disc release in Japan with a very possible arcade release if they can make it happen. No discs are planned for the game in the Western markets as far as I know. This is still great news if true though. It gives the game some breathing room with a nice four week gap. The game would have sold much better as an early January release, but that is in the past.

A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad. - Shigeru Miyamoto

I really wish they didn't give in and took their time with this one =/

Not sure if serious.

You know this game was delayed, right? So they can balance it and add more.

Loved the game at announcement, but I'm conflicted. With only 8 characters, despite however unique each character is, it's going to be a tough sell.

It's already been said that the latest they'll release SG is by the end of Q2 by US standards (March 31st)...so, what IGN has up there isn't a confirmed date.

@14

We'll file you under "Someone doesn't know how to use filters"

On topic:

I cannot wait for this game to come out, but I hope they're giving it enough time to properly flesh it out.

If it's "rushed" in any way, they'll lose potential recognition from the fans of the franchise instead of leaving it in the oven until it's all good and ready.

Not this 'UMMMM UFF THIS GAME RAWR RAWR' stuff. ANYWAYS....if SFxTekken comin out in feb.? Then this should have been January or if not then April or something but im gettin it no matter what. And the Pros know of it so they are gonna spread the word if its as great as its looking.

There seems to be a lot of hype for this game. I've been wondering what is is about this game that everyone is excited for? Is it supposed to be really cool or is everyone just excited about the chicks?

It's all about the moe crowd and their fetishes. Disguising it as a fighting game is just a way of presenting it legitimately. I guarantee nobody will take this seriously once the full thing is released, save for the Gaia Online devotees who already worship the main artist and designer.

Typical Eventhubs ignorance is typical

The game has hype because it's a potentially solid game, do your research before just saying "LOLZ HOT CHICKS ONLY? GAME MUST BE TERRIBLE!!! LET ME GO BACK TO NUTHUGGING CAPCOM FIGHTERS!!!!"

Anyway, I don't see what all the complaints are about it being rushed. The game was due for release last year and they delayed it without any mention of release up until now (if this is accurate). If anything, they are taking their sweet time and are now in hurry-the-****-up territory

Don't give a crap anymore, reveal that last character and release this NOW!!!

The gameplay looks amazing, I wouldn't care if the characters were chicks or not as long as the animation was just as fantastic and the gameplay looked just as good. (My favorite is Peacock and she is hardly the epitome of "sexy fetish character")

EVERY top player from Marvel who has put their hands on the game has come back saying it was amazing. Fanatiq specifically said on stream the other day that it may be the greatest fighting game ever. Combofiend was loving it. Justin Wong is interested in it. Floe is interested in it.

Anyone who says it will just be forgotten as another "anime moe" game is an idiot who not only doesn't recognize that the art style is not anime style (it is more like a cross between anime and american art styles like comic book artist Jeff Agala. If anything it more American than Anime)

Yeah totally, not like any big name fighting game players are developing this game, and making it balanced by big name fighting game players, and trying to take the things wrong in fighting games and making it better. Nah it's just random, button mashing panty shot garbage, I've only seen 3 screen shots and have looked up zero information on it, but I'm certain I'm 100% accurate on this.

I'm going to go back to playing Mortal Kombat 9, a completely wholesome game with no fanservice or scantily clad females anywhere, because it is american made, and therefore is not driven by sex at all.

#22

There'll be more DLC characters, which, IIRC will be free.

There's so many haters with nothing better to do in these forums.

This game is so hyped because it's (sounds like) focused on quality mechanics and balance. They're adding things like an actual tutorial mode (not just combos) to help bring everyone up to speed and make things competitive. They're using GGPO netcode so that our gameplay online will be high quality.

I feel like these guys are focusing on the most important aspects that any fighter should and I applaud them for that.

You can def argue that the cast isn't that large, but they're a small team, and I think that if the game lives up to the hype, there will be plenty of additions on the way.

I totally don't agree with the moe comments. The art is so stylized and the proportions of some of the characters look kinda funny to me. I think the chicks from any of the top fighters are meant to have more sex appeal than these characters.

Personally, I'm not into the art style at all, but I think the game is gonna be really strong and I'm buying it the first day it comes out. These guys sound like they're more interested in making a great game than putting money in the bank.

Character roster totals 8 i believe (for now), that's disappointing. I looked past it in blazblue and other games, but those were 1v1. This game has the potential for 3v3, 2 players choose different characters and pretty much the whole roster is in one fight.

I'm still looking forward to it, but the final price of the game, cost of DLC (if any) will decide my impression till i sink into it.

If there really is only 8 characters, i wouldn't be expecting this game to go far... buuut it IS Mike Z were talking about here, i'm sure he's got something crazy coming.

Either way there will be a lot of similar teams being played instead of exploring and all the different teams you see (most of the time) in UMvC3.

@#26 You must be jokeing about MK9 not haveing any Fanservice or Scantly clad women in it Jade, Kitana, Mileena heck almost all the females in that game are nearly half naked. And MK9 being wholesome? So blood and gory death moves, Brutal Bone crushing moves, and being able to shove your opponent into invironmental death hazards is wholesome? Are we even talking about the same game?

You need some serious help if you believe that, thats like trying to compare pretty fluffy Bunnys to Freddy Kruger who oh wait! hes in that game too. To even think of useing Mortal Kombat and wholesome in the same sentence is just plan retarded.

Anyone worried about the 8 character start-up roster shouldn't be. The character select UI clearly reveals the vast potential for future additions with like 20 empty slots. They clearly just don't want to rush it and make upwards of 10 characters that all play the same. The fact that each character is composed of literally thousands of hand drawn images is a testament to how much goes into creating each individual fighter. I personally can't wait to see the unique characters they may release as DLC or hopefully free update as time goes on. These guys are really passionate about this game and I doubt that anyone will feel otherwise when they get their hands on it. Hell, I was satisfied with just the 4 characters available at NYCC. I'm buying for sure, day 1.
