A community member wanted to know why Capcom didn't sell the Darkstalkers brand if they didn't have any plans for releasing a new title — and while cautioning people not to read more into this, Svensson added that there could be plans for the title in the future. Why don't you sell the franchises/brands you're not confident in? We all know there's a following for Darkstalkers. Why not sell it to Arc System Works so they can make a game? — Kycer
Svensson: We actually continue to do a fair amount of business on Darkstalkers via digital catalog (PSN PS1 games) and via our merchandising and licensing business.
Don't read more into this than it says, but it wouldn't be terribly smart to sell off things that could be useful again in the future.
It took 10 years for us to do another Marvel vs. Capcom or Street Fighter. I can't say when or if there'd be another Darkstalkers, but there'd be no chance of one from us if we sold it.
Capcom vs. SNK 2: Will we ever have it on the Xbox 360 or PSN? —
Svensson: There would have to be a new contract with SNK and there would have to be new development (which means, significant costs). It's not as simple as sign a piece of paper and it shows up on the marketplace. :)
There's no news on this front for me to talk about. Sorry.
Well sorry to sound like a negative Nancy here, but as a huge Street Fighter fan it pisses me off to see that Resident Evil (which I love by the way) is getting more stuff this year than Street Fighter, while this was supposed to be the year of Street Fighter. — Strugler
Svensson: Anniversaries don't necessarily mean new games. We tend to not plan our brand strategy around 5 year anniversary increments.
That said, we have been extremely active with Street Fighter in the recent past. (AE, AE2012, SFxT and we'll see what else). Loads of new licensed products. Tons of fight clubs. We're engaged with more tournament operators than ever.
And there's lots more to come.
Is the return of games using super deformed character style still possible for Capcom someday? — VegaMan
I could see it being context sensitive. For instance, Street Fighter probably won't be seen in SD style unless another Pocket Fighter or Puzzle Fighter is made, since that's really one of the only times such an art style is used in that series (or Darkstalkers). — Deva Ashera
Seth Killian: This style still has lots of fans internally as well, but as correctly pointed out, the style has to match the product. It's not planned for any currently announced projects (so no RE6 all-chibi version DLC, fun as that might be), but not off the table as a potential direction for something new.
please capcom
dont be selfish this time, PLEASE put cvs2 on the marketplace
I don't think we need a Darkstalkers reboot for at least 3 years. We're on fighting game overload right now. Let's save some ammo for later on.
#2
How is it selfish when it was just said that it would cost them a lot?
Stop and think. They are a business, you know.
lol Scourge739 just read "Capcom vs SNK 2" and "no". take some time to read before you insult a company.
Cvs2 will sell more than 3so and I love them both but I just think it would be wise for them to invest on that project
mvc3, umvc3, re-release mvc2, re-release 3s, sf4 (four iterations) 3 different consoles at that, sfxt soon, hdremix, tvc (For America) although it was made exclusively for japan. I don't think anyone can begin to call capcom selfish.. Not just Scourge739. but everybody who sees it that way. btw did i miss anything...?

Exactly. People these days are just entitled and ungrateful.
Capcom's next fighter HAS to be Darkstalkers.
Entitled and ungrateful is one thing, but you have to admit, this is getting ridiculous. What has Capcom made, that is actually a game (Asura's Wrath can go screw itself), and a new IP? Dragon's Dogma is the only new property and even then right now it feels like a hack-n-slash Skyrim.
And I'm not one of the people that are like 'stop Street Fighter forever'. I'm not. It has a right to exist, but it can't be Capcoms entire selling strategy. I won't even bitch about the Bad Box Art Megaman, because even as I am a giant fan of the series, at least I got SOMETHING out of it. Along with Juri. And Cole. Heck I even defend the new DmC because Ninja Theory are amazing at storytelling.
The really sad thing is that, I hate the concept of SFxT. Its just another goddamn Street Fighter. But I'm suckered in with the inclusion of Cole McGrath, (BBA)Megaman, and Juri. I'm even lumping myself into it regardless of how much rage I'll get from the shoddy system mechanics.
Darkstalkers has a right to exist. Rival Schools, Power Stone, Onimusha, Dino Crisis, you get the point. The horrible flaw in their ideas is that they throw franchises to the side if they don't meet 'their' expectations, and throw us another goddamn Street Fighter. And what's sad about that, is that everyone on this site will gobble it up and defend having four characters added for an unreasonable price (Especially since two we already friggin' had), and not think of the future repercussions. We're losing things because we, the fans, suck.
So what I'm saying is all people are horrible and we should start trying to dig ourselves out of this mess.
I agree with # 10.
Seems like the logical and only next step. SF5 would be Ryu and co overload at this point. I don't see any other cross-overs happening.
I'm optimistic, but I fully expect to see a Darkstalkers hint at EVO/E3.
Ono - as big of a troll as he is, the "Darkstalkers isn't dead" thing last year is all to much to be a complete joke.
"Svensson: There would have to be a new contract with SNK and there would have to be new development (which means, significant costs). It's not as simple as sign a piece of paper and it shows up on the marketplace. :)"
When the f--k did anyone ask him to explain how the industry works? He asked whether or not CVS2 would appear on current-gen consoles. What a condescending piece of sh-t, just say you don't know because the higher-ups don't bother sharing info with senior vice-presidents of minimum wage. Why do people bother asking this guy questions? He doesn't know sh-t. Seth Killian 2.0.
Well their goes my so called hopes (if i had any) for a mega man 25 anniv game. I know the fans are mad about mm i can just imagine inafune =0 sfxt is coming soon, that name alone is huge.
Capcom just needs to chill out on the fighting games for a while. And it looks like they may have figured this out. They are simply suffocating themselves by releasing so many.
AE is not going anywhere and people will continue to play this for years. The community is generally happy with the 2012 patch.
But this is in direct competition with SFxT, and without doubt there will be plenty of people satisfied with AE, who will sit on the sidelines and wait to see if this is going to be a success or not.
And of course UMvC3 is still hanging out there cornering the more casual market. Although TBH, I don't believe that this game has a very bright future unless radical changes are made.
What I hope to see is Capcom continue to support those three games instead of abandoning them for new projects. At the moment, SF4 requires no support because they did a pretty good job with 2012. SFxT will require plenty of tweaks to get right to ensure that it remains a competitive game (as all fighters do). I hope to see SOMETHING happen to UMvC3, maybe a year down the road after the finish on SFxT has worn off. Expect interest in that game to fall off of a cliff once SFxT is released.
@15 with a name like tro11v I don't think anyone will take you seriously.
I would love to see another Dark Stalkers game. Honestly, I welcome any new fighting games.
Anyone seen anything for Asura's Wrath? It'd be sick if Asura was in a fighting game.
#15 Nice. Are you 10? Why do you even think he can answer this even if he knew what's going on? He's not obligated to tell you jack. It's pretty obvious who the piece is here.
I swear to god, these game fans are tools. Do you have any idea how businesses work? Do people really expect companies to divulge their plans just because some demanding know it alls on a forum ask?
These companies must have incredible patience to deal with so much lack of common sense.
well i apologize. i read over it >_>
but it just seems like since capcom milks of alot of people shouldnt they be able to put out a little bit of money?
@ 17 and other nay sayers , capcom needs to chill? where were you the last 10 years? people today are ungrateful and desire instant gratification,tro1ly for instance if he did't say that then people would be asking "well why not?" if it were possible I'm sure CVS2 would have been out years ago.
ono hinted darkstalkers regularly actually he said last e3(?) that they are working on something. I love that capcom has faith in the genre again. and pretentious jerks who think capcom has to do everything we say, when if you look at MvC3 and UMvC3, AE 2012 being a free DLC, 3S online, SFxT even existing, I'll continue to support them as long as they continue to support the FGC.
finally if you think SFxT is "just another SF" then clearly you haven't watched a single video.the system is completely different from SF4. besides it titled Street fighter x tekken so therefore it has street fighter characters...don't be stupid. this is probably the same group of people asking for skullomania in the game.
How about instead of reviving long dead franchises, Capcom actually make a NEW fighting game franchise? I know it is blasphemy in today's world not to just make another sequel of a proven product, but it would be nice if Capcom could show some ingenuity and wow us with something new.
I do agree with @17 that they need to chill on the fighting game market for now and just develop and expand on already existing products. If they want to create another fighter-like game, that wouldn't compete with current products, make another Power Stone or create a game that can directly challenge Super Smash Brother's style of gameplay.
Just ideas though. I love Capcom, in spite of their massive stupidity at times.
A lot of people say its 'cool' to appeal to the casual market. The casual market who will sell it anyways.
I casual'd when I got SF4. I didn't even know how to Hadoken in 2008 and here I am using Dan Hibiki on Ranked as a C+ against the mindless drones of the Akuma and Yun variety.
I mean come on, how tough is 'learning how a game works'?
@23
If you make a lot of games in the same genre around the same time you flood the market and people begin to lose interest. Look what happen to the musical game genre, they flooded the market with Rock Band's and Guitar Heroes and now they are dead because the market was so saturated that people stopped caring and buying games.
There is nothing wrong with spacing out releases more.
Im fine with having a revival or a re-release...but not right now. Once SFxT is here, there will be an abundance of great fighters out, and it's seriously getting hard to keep up with lol. There's so much i'm wanting to play but i'm still learning and it's rough trying to learn multiple games. Please...just a small break : )
On a serious note, I would love to see CvS2. I had it for dreamcast back in the day but i didnt play fighters seriously back then, so i'd love to see it re-released. I dont see it happening though. But with Kof doing well...you never know. The future may give us a cvs3.
I never played Darkstalkers but have seen clips on YouTube. Why is the demand for a new Darkstalkers so high? It looks pretty mediocre to be perfectly honest. If Darkstalkers 4 was released, I honestly don't think it would sell well (by Capcom standards) due to all the fighters currently out plus it not having a recognizable name like SF and Marvel in the casuals eyes.
I don't want Ono anywhere near Darkstalkers 4 or Capcom vs. SNK 3.
Honestly, it's crap like this that really makes me wish some other fighting game company could step up and put Capcom in it's place. No disrespect here, Capcom has put out some great classics. Unfortunately, Capcom couldn't give a damn about their fanbase and what they want. I'm not going to bore everyone with a long list, but here's just a few examples...
1.Instead of giving everyone what they wanted the first time around, Capcom waited until Ultimate Marvel to deliver, and they still screwed alot up (No Megaman, many returning characters vanished, Wesker still stupid)
2.Despite the constant demand, they still drag their feet on classics such as Darkstalkers
3.Constant re-releases that charge loyal fanbase to get updates which should be free
4.They're much too full of themselves now because there wasn't much competition when SF4 came around. They aren't humble about their approach to fighting games when compared to SC5 and KOF XIII(even though EX characters are bull)
Darkstalkers is a better fighting game series than SF. That's why Capcom stole all the "new stuff" and shoved it in Street Fighter. 3/4 of the new game mechanics seen after SFII originated in the Darkstalkers games. Capcom sucks too much a$$ and is too lazy to give Darkstalkers the chance it deserves.
@kewlmyc: "I never played Darkstalkers but have seen clips on YouTube. Why is the demand for a new Darkstalkers so high?"
It isn't high. At all. It isn't even close to what would be necessary for them to make a new game. That's what's under discussion here, essentially.
Never was a darkstalkers fan so a new game never came to my attention. Loved the hell out of cvs2 when i was 8 lol
They can't make an IP and be completely innovative because people think everything Capcom does is stupid until the game is released. Even then, people think things should be removed. The "fans" essentially want HD versions of older games. And when those games are released on XBLA and PSN, most people only play them for a month.
Look at SFxT. It have a lot of innovative mechanics and ideas and people look at them as crap. The Street Fighter and Tekken franchises are what's selling that game. Capcom has popular franchises that will sell well to the fans of the genre as well as people new to it. A brand new IP would only sell to people who play fighting games.
Then MvC3 comes out and all people do is complain about old characters that no one used not being in. They want X-Factor removed. People still want Ultras removed from SF4. The so-called "fans" don't want anything innovative. These so-called "fans" also aren't the ones making the fighting game scene bigger than it's ever been right now.
Fans demand too damn much. Capcom has already invested in so many games, that it is hard to not ask for more. But if we keep demanding reboots, we're going to not have any new games just a reboot of a reboot of a reboot. Fighting games aren't about the characters that aren't in it or the mechanics, It's about having fun with it and trying new things.
Marvel didn't have Megaman, so what? What's all this damn hype about him when Zero would play just like him, unless they did megaman vult. SxT is Street Fighter 4.5, Fans demanded it because of all the hype from cross generation platforms. I haven't heard anyone complain about Sc5 yet, but it's bound to happen.
Thing is "fans" complain too damn much. You don't like something in a video game, stop playing it and don't give your opinion on why it's bad. Let Capcom do it's thing and if they ever decide to release Cvs2 or a new Darkstalkers, YOU ARE STILL GOING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT IT!
How can you love Resident Evil but be upset that there isn't more Street Fighter stuff coming out? Be grateful Resident Evil is getting the exposure that it's getting. Fighting games take 2-3 years for a sequel anyway and with SFxTekken and TekkenxSF coming out--man, that comment really rustled my jimmies. What a moron.

And thats the kind of respect Capcom doesn't deserve. Its an outdated game by years. They're still making SF2 just with graphical improvements and gameplay modifications (Like parrying and focus attacks and ultras, etc.) Giving them credit for that is like giving credit for your student who drew an amazing masterpiece as a child but then started drawing crap for the rest of his life.
@ 40
Agreed! And that's why Capcom NEEDS to make a new Vampire. It's literally the mother of the modern era of fighting games. It's also the perfect opportunity for Capcom to try some very crazy and innovative things.
Anyone who's played more than just the mainstream fighters knows that Darkstalkers has been Capcom's ultimate playground. What the sereis didn't invent, it drove in some crazy directions.
a common sense realese would be power stone 3, capcom loves money more than their own lifes, and it would be great cause is a simple fun game for everyone, Darkstalkers suffered it horrible gameplay, some characters are ok, but felicia and the other hong kong thing are a waste in umvsc3.
