Mike Ross announced on last nights Wednesday Night Fights that he would be attending the LG Cup finals in Korea. I didn't know there were so many people in the US not owning passports... Kinda weird, it's kinda rare here for someone not to have one.
A lot of people don't have passports because they don't use them and it costs a few hundred dollars and depending what state you are in, it can be quite a drive to get it done as well.
Mike Ross, the 7th place winner, you mean the 6th place loser?
Unless, it's a matter of finances, the facts so many of those pro-gamers can't go is a bit shameful for the US scene. Not hating on Mike Ross, I'll cheering for him, and trolling when I feel like it.
But seriously, no passports? Stay free Americans.
Gwan Mike Ross! The worlds favourite American player! Hope he does well.
@ anyone wondering why these guys don't have passport: it's obviously a convenient excuse to explain why they don't want to go to a competition taking place over 2 weekends. Is it coincidence 6 players all couldn't make it to the competition? I bet had the competition organizers used their brains and held it at a more reasonable format these guys would have no problems finding their passports.
So Mike Ross went to SBO after getting 2nd place at the qualifiers, and he gets to go to LG Cup after getting 7th place at the qualifiers. Seems to me he can only go to overseas tournaments that have qualifiers because others can't make the trip.
people who don't have passports please don't enter those tournaments. lol
There were people who enter sbo and don't have passport too.
@27
I live in New York State and it took me like 2-3 months between initially ordering my passport and it finally getting to me. And I ordered my through a private company, if I were to have gone directly through the government, it would have taken even longer.
Its not something that's easy to get, and like another guy commented, they can cost multiple hundreds of dollars.
Plus you cant really get madd at Americans for not having a passport, typically, why would we ever need to leave the country? aside from the random toronto tournament. Most things that people want to do, they can do without crossing borders...
So its a lot of money time and resources being used for something that one might not even use enough to validate the purchase to begin with.
U guys are fools, mike hasn't been playing honda because of he has discovered lots of hidden tech. Crouching Blanka Hidden Honda. Stay free.
Sorry to be that guy but "time of off work" is a spelling error.
In other news I still believe in Mike Ross
Haha "don't have passports". Americans are so self-centred, seems like the statistics are right - most either can't take more than 1-2 weeks off a year from work to travel abroad or have no such interests
And yes backing up a few comments already made here, everyone knew from the get-go it would be held in Korea. Why would those without passports even be allowed to enter?
This just seems really stupid to me, an indicator of very bad tournament/event planning. I think that any tournament that is a qualifier or some kind of pre-event for an international event later one should have rules set in motion to avoid this. Meaning that if you don't have a passport, you can't enter the tournament.
rofl 6 people dropped out of the tourny wow I guess no one wanted to go to korea
How can you not have a passport? So stupid.
@40
That's a stupid reason for calling Americans that. How does not owning a passport or taking time off (which Combofiend said he couldn't get because of the short notice) make them self-centered? Combofiend has been to Canada and China in the past few months, and you're still going to call him because of his work schedule? With the way the economy is in the United States in the past few years, traveling abroad is just not feasible.
This is why "I believe in Mike Ross" is a thing. He gets a free ticket eventhough he got 7th place. LOL!
He's still a fraud though so if people think he'll do well in Korea, he won't.
DA F*** IS THIS! I like mike ross but this is ridiculous!
@41 For the phones, prize money and free stuff LG gave out to top 8. If you could get to the event easy enough you'd be crazy not to enter even if you didn't have a passport.
@47
Most of the Americans I know, as an Australian who moved to New York, travel almost exclusively around the States only. As in, they only go to Florida, California etc. In other words, self-centred means they believe America is all they need or want.
And news flash, which again highlights the American mentality, the economy is bad EVERYWHERE not just the US. You think Europeans are having a field day in the financial markets? People still travel abroad, Americans MOSTLY just choose not to.
@55 why would they when everything here is better
Traveling abroad from the US requires a $1000+ plane ticket. Traveling abroad from elsewhere usually just requires a train or ferry ticket. Yes, you can fly across Europe, but it isn't required.
I like Mike Ross and i want to see him play, but this is getting ridiculuss. Why do you play in a tournament where the winner goes to Korea and not have a passport, and why dont you get one after you get asked? Sure it takes a while but you can get a temporary one till you get it. Well whatever. I had a good laugh after reading this story. Mike ross again stepping in to play for amerika in an international tournament because the actual winners cant go.

@59 its not like everywhere you go your gonna get shot by some thug or mugged or whatever this overrated places is nice sometimes :D
Hugo101 and OnlineTony do not have passports....something smells fishy when you're a citizen and not have passports.
Lol down to 7th place? This thing is just gonna keep on going on until they are just going to take any U.S citizen willing to stay in Korea for 2 weeks..and no LG I am not avaliable -_-
Passports are really expensive, and when you go get one (or renew an old one, which you'd have to do eventually) takes time. Mine took at least 3 months to get here.
Who cares if Hugo101 and OnlineTony don't have passports and they entered. They got a free phone and the tournament was free to enter. Besides, if the ones who didn't have passports won the tournament, they'd go get their passports done immediately. They didn't win, so they didn't feel the need to.
I like Henry Cen's idea better. No passport, you can't enter the tournament for SBO.
Yo, a tourny is a tourny, you win something anyways. The thing is all of you bitching about a passport are pretty much missing the picture. Anyone can enter a tourny if they want to, regardless if they are going to korea or not. A lot of people really like playing tourny's, so be it. I'm not the biggest mike ross fan, but he isn't just a scrub. Seriously though, you all are full of it.
i don't think i ever laughed as hard as i did last night when mike ross explained the korea situation on stream. the boy's gonna do work! I BELIEVE
