Videos show how the Wii U version of Tekken Tag Tournament 2 graphically stacks up with the 360 and PS3 releases

If you're curious how Nintendo's new Wii U performs in a side by side comparison with the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, you're in luck as EuroGamer did a full on comparison showing all three versions of this game right next to each other.

The 360/Wii U video is below and you'll find the PS3/Wii U clip after the jump, along with frame rate overview footage. These are all available in 720p HD.

Here's a snip from the write up.

Based on first impressions, not much appears to have changed. We find that the same rendering set-up is used, with a dynamic framebuffer employed, adjusting the resolution on the fly according to the rendering load. In order to maintain the target 60FPS update as closely as possible, Tekken Tag Tournament 2 aims to operate in native 720p but drops down as low as 700x720 (with 800x720 and 900x720 also being seen) when there are two characters on screen performing tag-team combos with motion blur enabled.

Tagging between characters causes a drop in resolution on some stages - but not all - regardless of whether blur is enabled, which is something that we see happening slightly more frequently on the Xbox 360 and PS3. However, dropping the blur effect entirely allows the game to run in higher resolutions more often on all platforms: outside of performing dual character moves and highly aggressive combos, a large part of the fight is rendered at 720p, or just slightly below, offering the cleanest presentation.

So far, so good. However, as we move away from pure image quality concerns it becomes apparent that Namco has made some small tweaks to the Wii U code by reducing the quality of certain visual effects, or in some cases by removing them entirely. There are also a few graphical bugs that crop up from time to time, which seem at odds with the rest of the game's visual presentation.

To be honest, slightly better doesn't cut it for something that's supposed to be next gen. WiiU is an awesome console, I love it, but it's not next gen.

Wii U limps in at the END of the *CURRENT* generation of consoles. Sad.

To be clear. I very much like Nintendo and wanted so badly to like (be impressed by) this system. But it hasn't impressed thus far. At the very least I wanted to like it enough that I'd feel compelled to still purchase it for my family like I did with Wii.

Wii U launches with plenty of 3rd party support (a first) but sadly lacks FIRST PARTY support (wtf Nintendo?)! And all of the 3rd party support features inferior online capability and has had effects removed?

And that's what the call "launching the next Gen"?

I don't think the Wii U was meant to be "next-gen". I'd say it was more of a slight advancement to the Wii. Think of it like the DS going to the 3DS. Not too big of an advancement. Sure better graphics and what not, but essentially the same system.

I disagree

"So far, so good. Based on this statement. To pull off graphics *on par* with ps3/Xbox certain visuals are degraded or cut completely? That is a fail for a "next gen" system.

These consoles are 7 years old. A NEW system should be pulling this stuff off with two processors tied behind its back.

And furthermore, I felt the PS3 looked better than Wii U in nearly every intro screen! Look at the Eddy Gordo one for gosh sake!

Wii U = inferior current gen system with added tablet. I hope it shows some teeth when a NEW Mario/Zelda/Metriod comes out.

you guys do realize that the Wii U just came out a little over a month ago and aside from Mario and Nintendo Land every other game is a port right? The CPU and GPU are still being figured out. give it time before you judge it. remember how bad that Gundam game for the PS3 came out? its widely consider the worse looking game this generation.

Give it time, Nintendo Faithful.

This is a PORT of a game for current gen systems of course it will look almost the same. Developers still need to figure out the limits of this console because it is just over a month old. Go look at the launch games of Xbox 360 and PS3 games compared to now and you'll see a big difference. In other words have common sense before you put your own foot in your own mouth.

So when the SNES came out all of its launch titles looked like the NES? No!

So when the PS1 launched it looked *on par* with SNES? No!

PS3 looked *on par* with PS2? No!

Use your fu<kin brain before typing mindless bull$hit on the Internet. And quit accepting mediocrity as a standard.

Yes it takes time to develope for a new system. No they didn't just get the kits yesterday!!!!

Any kind of jump in performance would have shown that they were at lest trying! Look at the adds for this "system". You cannot even see it because it has a tablet sitting squarely in front of it!

This is current gen being pedaled with a cheap tablet.

You can remove your foot from your mouth now. And I'll pull mine out of your a$$:)

It's a multi-console release, the best achievement for those is to look exactly the same across all platforms. That, it does. No surprise.
They can not invent magic shiny flashy pixels if they weren't designed to be there. We aren't in that kind of generation yet.

But they cannot even faithfully reproduce the "shiny flashy pixels" that are designed to be there. Didn't you read that?

Things have been trimmed or completely removed. And the ones that haven't glitch out. So how is that the same?

Wow, you're fu<king ret@rded. It's a PORT; not a game designed for the system from the ground up for the system like the examples you've given. There's no reason for a developer to boost the graphics when porting their game, since it won't boost their profit margins due to the added cost of rebuilding the game.

Honestly, it takes years for a console's potential in graphics to peak. The Wii U is new and its potential is still dormant. Final Fantasy 4 on the SNES looked more like a High End NES game. However Final Fantasy 6 looked leagues better than 4 but was on the same system; around three years apart (I have both carts). The appeal of this system is not necessarily its power, but its innovation. Its the later titles that have claim to graphical superiority because there is also the performance of late generation engines. Compare Dice's Frostbite to its successor, which were both in the same generation. Earlier titles are typically inferior graphically but no less enjoyable.

So in retrospect to a$$es, you can take your head out of yours.

My head isn't up my a$$ man. There is no doubt in my mind that Wii U will evolve graphically. But IMO it's coming in waaaay underpowered for a supposed "Next Gen" console.

And I wish it luck when Sony and Microsoft bring out their *NEW* "Next Gen" offerings.

IMO, this was Nintendo's chance to come to the table with some Teeth/Balls, and low and behold they hung their hat on Gimmicks again.

*btw, I'm an avid Nintendo supporter who's owned every Nintendo console ever made!* excluding the Virtual Boy:)

This happen to me when developer make games in mind for console and ported to pc but if they make game like Crysis or BF3 for PC in mind and ported to console DAT another STORY.

Pretty much shows that Nintendo could always do these graphic but chose to focus on getting more people into playing games as well as making a different way of playing. So even though most of you think that Nintendo is playing catch-up, in actuality Nintendo gave itself more consoles to sell thus making more money while still making great games and even avoid crippling itself with trying to make better graphics than the last system (possibly costing more money than necessary whenever Microsoft and Sony make their new systems). Graphics don't make the game, though most people have forgotten this fact.

Good show Nintendo ;3

Well, considering 2 things:
1) The game is almost the same in all 3 consoles (which is good for the Wii U).
2) The Wii U version is a port with little improvement to the code on a console that has live for just 2 months, and looks the same as the other version, in which the developer had at least 6 years of working experience.

So, the Wii U 1st generation games can do everything the PS3 and 360 last generation games. The console's potential is still pretty much hidden and there is room for a lot of improvement in the future (consider how the 1st generation of the 360/PS3 look when compare to today's generation).

What it is really important about the Wii U is how much the new console improve to the old Wii, and we can see real improvement in that area (since the Wii was an smaller step from the Gamecube).

Economically speaking Nintendo cannot compete with companies like Sony or Microsoft.
To avoid to end up like Sega did with the Dramcast and Shenmue they cannot unleash high end hardware consoles with overwhelming production costs, thus they are not directly competing with Ps3 and Xbox as they are between each other.
Since the relative failure of the N64 they are playing it safe by creating cheap consoles with arguably innovative features and a good set of exclusive games.
It's also predictable that the new consoles by Sony and Microsoft will have some exaggerated hardware specs and will overshadow the Wii U in these terms.

Comparing, and getting mad about, the graphics of TTT2 between ps3/xbox and Wii U is silly.

Ladies, when crying that it is a port, remember that the original lives in arcades. And the arcade version is better than the console version in graphics. So really, the whole "this is a port, it cant be better" arguement is wrong since y'all are arguin that it can't be better than the 360/PS3 version. The only thing the game can do is match the arcade version, but its not doin that on a next-gen console.

Its also the same reason why DR on PS3 looks like a PS2 title. Its a port of the arcade version and thats how the arcade version looked.

And then there is the rare case of TTT, which got a graphical overhaul for its PS2 release from its arcade version, which looked like a PS1 title.

Not sure why the gaming cultures immediate response the past few years have been to nay say anything Nintendo. If you're 20, you probably grew up with Nintendo. That being said, no, this game isn't going to look different. That's because this is a current gen game playing on a next gen system. It's like playing Halo 2 on a 360. The Wii U isn't going to look or feel like a next gen system until they make next gen games for it. Until then, it has to lower its standards to the current gen games and systems.

I lol at calling the n64 a failure, dreamcast failed for other reasons. N64 was fine, but I think people were even more disappointed with the GameCube, and even Moreso the wii. Wii u may not be anything amazing, but Nintendo hasn't really been the '' better graphics\ mature games'' console that Sony and Microsoft fanboys bash Nintendo for. Instead a cost effective and cartoony console.

I feel Nintendo learned a little though, wii u is getting titles with a higher age rating and of course you'll still have staple Zelda and Mario games to come. Give it a chance. I have one and hell am I ever disappointed with launch, but I'm sure they'll make use of the qualities they made the console capable of.

Besides... Based on last launches I wouldn't be surprised if the new Sony and Microsoft consoles cost 1000$
