Dawgtanian: Newest version of Street Fighter X Tekken v2013 feels like a new game, players may be surprised by system changes

Posted by Jonathan 'Catalyst' Grey • December 20, 2012 at 9:39 a.m. PST

Building up hype for the v2013 patch of Street Fighter X Tekken, Capcom UK's SFxT community manager, David "Dawgtanian" Hinds, relayed a few new messages about the game and Capcom's general plans on his Twitter account.

He states that there are a couple of unannounced system changes that Capcom hasn't revealed yet in SFxT v2013, and that he thinks people will be surprised by these. He adds that word on these announced changes might be coming this year, and that the latest version of the title feels like a completely new game.

Hinds notes that the time over issue has been absolutely addressed, and mentions some general notes about Vita compatibility and diagonal input issues, among other things. Hit the Read More link below to check out everything.

Dawgtanian: The newest version of Street Fighter X Tekken v2013 feels like a completely new game. Forget what you think you know about the game.

It's not just a rebalance, the mind games and pace of the game feels a lot different. Not only are the characters capable of new things, but also the players, enabling new strategies and faster paced matches.

I'm really excited by a couple of system changes we've not announced yet! I think you guys are going to be surprised.

Would you say the timeout issue has been addressed?

Dawgtanian: Absolutely.

Dat_Juliano: Will you announce these other changes this year?

Dawgtanian: I would think so but don't quote me on that!

ReaLgoesWronG: I'm guessing it's not wrong to expect that v2013 will also be for Vita same day as consoles.

Dawgtanian: For cross play this is a must.

TheScarzEffect: Is the problem with diagonal inputs fixed?

Dawgtanian: I'll seek confirmation, but I believe so.

BadIntentVG: I hope the system changes include an option to disable quick combos.

Dawgtanian: Hmmm, I wonder. ;)

Hinds also added this note about Capcom in general.

Dawgtanian: The Street Fighter 25th Anniversary Tournament Series, Street Fighter X Megaman free download, and Street Fighter x Tekken v2013 free patch. You cannot say we are a company who do not cherish our fans.

EternalDragon28: True, but capcom had to, the lies about Xbox local online pair play in SFxT, game breaking glitches and on disc DLC.

Dawgtanian: We make mistakes like any other company, what's important is what we learn from them and what we do moving forwards.

I don't play on the 360 but how about actually fixing the 2 players on 1 console co-op online feature and stop putting retarded dlc nonsense to all your recent games Capcom? (let me list some of these bull***ts and i didnt even buy any except ae, mvc3/umvc3, and sfxt: asura's wrath having to pay dlc for the true ending, operation raccoon city on disk dlc, , dragon's dogma, resident evil 6 had it too but I think it was free, not sure, and etc.)

From the start of umvc3 to sfxt and so on, you guys haven't learn jack s*** at all. The fans were pissed off when you started the whole dlc gem bull**** and on disk dlcs and cause you wanted to make a quick buck or two, you freaking did it again. False promises over and over and you say you cherish your fans? What a load of sh** Don't just say it Capcom, DO IT.

Like when you don't start opening your mouth and saying how nice you guys are and that you cherish your fans, people wouldn't bring back their anger on the company AGAIN. I love capcom games but after buying ae, and marvel/umvc3, sfxt was disgustingly bad. The online was unplayable when the game came out and there were so many game breaking glitches (rolento, megaman, etc.) that it wasn't even funny.

Then there was time outs issue and so many other flaws that the lists can keep going on. Uggh, just keep your mouth shut Capcom until you actually do something and not give us a FREEBIE that a fan made.

Some fan made this game, WOW crapcom great job there. It's not one thing or the other that Crapcom did, it's the overall 'SLIMY' business model that they enacted. You put in 6 months to a year into a game and all of the sudden they make changes? Let the effin game breathe for a couple of years LORD JESUS CHRIST. All this for a lousy buck CRAPCOM, really?

* For those who are not staying around the tournament areas, we don't feel we are getting anything except watching and streaming more and more videos.

* SFXMM is born from fans' ideas, not yours, Capcom.

* It seems really easy for Capcom to forget the road to the emphasized-free SFXT v2013 patch. Capcom still owes us salary for actually BETA-TESTING the games.

I lol'd harder than I should have. So taking credit for a fan-made game and patching a mediocre game to make it good so that they can drain DLC money out of it easier is "cherishing fans"? When I buy a screwed up game, I expect fixes as standard. I don't owe Capcom any thanks for them resolving the crap that they stirred up in the first place. Capcom were going to save face and fix SFxT anyway because it's common business logic. They have no right to act like they're doing this for the fans or that we should even appreciate them trying to naturally survive as a business.

LordJim said on December 20, 2012 at 10:41 a.m.

Technically, they never claimed they came up with it not slapping a C&D to the fan game is already a good move from their part, since they own the license,But it would be quite the **** move from their part.
And considering almost every fighter this generation has had at least more than one edition, be it a free patch, dlc or new game(even TTT2 which had the arcade version first applies), the notion of 'PAY US FOR BETA TESTING' would ruin almost every publisher of fighting games.

Fchamp gave a scenario about SFxt v.2013:

"You go to a BIG party but then hours later it gets broken up by cops and everyone is running away or simply leaving the party. After the cops leave, the house owner decides to continue the party but only a few come back."

-Cops broke up the party already.
-Do it right the first time Capcom.

#34
PoopFist said on December 20, 2012 at 10:53 a.m.

I'm still not interested in the game because:

-12 DLC characters are a rip off
-pay to win gems
-tekken characters should play like street fighter characters as it is a street fighter game , i doubt that the street fighter characters will play the same in TEKKEN X STREET FIGHTER

its a shame i believe that the game can be fixed i just don't believe that capcom is willing to do what it takes.

SFxT in the initial trailer and what was sold is two different thing. Making a game "easy for noobs" is not the way to make a fighting game. When I play a game i either am naturally good at it from the start, or have to work at it a little. Capcom wanted to make a game where a noob could beat a pro (by time out) and gather more noobs to buy this turd of a game. Noobs just can't go from srub to high skill over nite. I have played sfxt with my son 5, and have beat scrubs by ko. He's 5 and only wants to play it if i have a sec to play it with him. He prefers SFIVAE2012 over sfxt and he's 5. Doesn't read these forums and has as honest as an opinion gets. Im not iterested in a v2013 patch honestly and i don't play pc games (they can keep mega man)

-You don't need the Gems to win, wtf are you talking about they nerfed most of them?

-The Tekken cast plays a lot like street fighter characters, most people complain that they don't play like Tekken characters.

I can't argue the DLC with you, I personally don't care because 20$ for 12 isn't very much regardless of on-disc or not.

I'm mildly optimistic. It really will have to be a fresh game to hold my interest. This game could have blown our minds . Pandora could have been a meter based mechanic integrated into focus attack. Parrying/absorbing attacks builds the pandora meter . When activated, you have access to character specific moves and extended team-combo possibilities with higher damage, available for 25 seconds. Anyway , not gonna happen now, just daydreaming.

Street Fighter X Megaman for free - It's not even your product CAPCOM, what the hell? It's a fanmade creation you present as your own damn it.

Well i like for this to be true but i know better, still i'll hold you to that, however if they are really moving forward than why haven't we seen, at the very least, a price cut for the dlc characters?
I guess the dlc characters the only revenue they can generate off of for this poorly handled game.

#61
Diego_V said on December 20, 2012 at 12:50 p.m.

Since it looks like option selects might make a return since auto combos can be turned off, wouldn't that make rolling obsolete since the are unsafe now? hopefully not because it would just turn into jump on head fighter 4 again. btw hopefully everyone judging the game so harshly actually played the game and learned its mechanics rather then basing their opinions on what (insert top player here) said.

#62
SGstarcraft said on December 20, 2012 at 12:50 p.m.

@59 I play pad, and at a high level (Playing with the highest level players on srk that is) and after about... 2 weeks? Yeah, about 2 weeks I pretty much got used to the diagnol inputs. Maybe if i stopped playing a few weeks it might have been annoying for a few hours, but in general this whole diagonal input thing is kind of blown out of proportion, just like the dlc fiasco, just like the glich fiasco, this games bad news is so blown out of proportion its just sad. Does anyone remember SF4's infinites? Fei? How about MvC3's game breaking DHC glich? I guess that doesn't count since mvc3 in general could never be so broken that anyone could be angry at capcom over it, since mvc3 is supposed to be completely broken its fine to the community.

@63

I agree that everyone blows everything out of proportion.

I disagree regarding diagonal inputs.

I've played the best. I've hit platinum. And still, the game occasionally drops diagonal inputs at key combo moments. Now maybe your characters don't rely heavily on air follow combos? Idk?

But for Chun Li getting random neutral jumps instead of intended combos is kind of a big problem.

And just to clarify.... We are talking about BASIC MOVEMENT here!

Spazgamer12 said on December 20, 2012 at 1:28 p.m.

I seriously attribute time outs to ppl not wanting to learn how to play a new game and maximize damage.

I'm hopeful for the patch and I hope that the hidden stuff will bring a big change to the game like idk making damage scaling work for this game and using SF scaling. If the rd hit of a combo did 90% dmg instead of 80% and decremented by 10% on each successive hit then you would still feel like you are doing dmg after more than 5 hits. Or if they rolled 20%-30% back scaling during tag combos only, not launches, then it would actually be worth it to switch between characters mid combo outside of getting a character out.

I agree with @66 that too much of the patch is cosmetic and more of it needs to be a deep system overhaul and dmg scaling is where I would start.

@81: Dude, stop making such a big deal out of FR. I've been looking more into Asuka, and there's plenty of ways to land Falling rain midscreen, even after DP+K, j.HK. It's just that no one uses those now since Oni is a better option atm. Basically, you can cancel c.MP, s.MK or 2nd or 3rd leg cutter into Falling rain quite consistently, I've even found situations where s.HK works.

ok doopliss handled that.

Anyways I personally can't wait for the patch. So many new tactics like Law flash kick, Steve armored move being more useful. Also thsat hint at some type of system change has me a little jumpy. Cmon combo counter pandora reset. MMMMMMM

As for some of you naysayers it is really. . .annoying to see some of these comments. The biggest offender to me being BigFleccs. Been spouting some of the silliest stuff since this game first got a news feed.

@2

Marvel is number 1 lol? Look at the stats, SF is the king, you know what that tells you, it tells you that Marvel is the queen and it's SF's b!tch.

Im curious to see the changes to the system they are making. Too bad i sold this game months ago. Dont plan on getting it again either. Ill just stick with Marvel, Persona, and the new Blazblue when it hits consoles. Sayonara SfxT.

Looking forward to the patch, might give me something to take a break on when the new BB comes out.

Quick question:

We would be able to switch versions just like in SSF4/AE?

That would be cool.

Never understood the philosophy of trying to reduce timeouts... They slowed down health regen and some people had some health cuts...but it's ultimately balanced nerfing overal damage output by alot across the board? How does this prevent timeouts? Then defense gems are kind of OP as is. Would of made sense to kept the damage the way it was for the most part and let team supers ignore timeouts. Time Outs would not be a factor at all.

But i degrees, we have to see what the community does with the new potential tech, and new OS' to explore.

Some characters got damage nerfs yes, but some got damage buffs, like King and Asuka. Meter gain is also reworked to be more rewarding if you play offensively.

And freezing the timer during supers or making it go slower wouldn't solve the real problem: matches just goes oooon and oooon and oooon...

If we're talking new characters, I'd like to see these:

R.Mika-Karin
Birdie-Sodom
Alex-Gill

Fei-Wang
Leo-Lee
Jinpachi-Unknown

Sorry if I gave the wrong impression in my tweets. It wasn't an arrogant attempt to tell people to like us. I've been working for Capcom for nearly a year now, and I just wish some of you guys knew just how much work goes on behind the scenes, by people who care about your opinions, and truly want you to enjoy our products.

There aren't many companies out there who have done some of the community driven projects we've done as of late, and that's what I meant by 'no one can say we don't cherish our fans' because if we didn't, we'd have no reason to indulge in things like free patches and tournaments.

Anyway I expect criticisms, and if anyone wants to do so directly, hit me up on twitter and I'll do my best to respond to everyone @CapcomDawg. I'm one of the many people who care about what you have to say, it's what I'm here for!

Doopliss i dont know if those are just off the top of your head but that list got me imagining. thats probably the most different add-ons for the tekken side at least.

But forget Jinpachi-Unknown. I wanna see Bob and Kuma in this game. lol

Doopliss said on December 20, 2012 at 5:47 p.m.

Yeah, I put the list together on the spot. I'd like Dr.B, Miguel, Bruce and Dragunov in there as well, but I guess I'll need to prioritize.

yay for diagonal fix!~ i hated how holding df made yoshi do his
triple roundhouse move instead of just a trip -,-"
this change is gonna be crazy. wonder if it affects trials and stuff, haha. (jk jk)
c'mon, theatre/gallery mode!~

and still don't see why ppls are asking for asuka's falling rain buff..
its dmg output is pretty crazy already~ it's a combo ender for asuka,
like jin's mist step+mp~ she probably has that lk+lp as an anti air now?
as seen from the prev. video...and her cr mk avoids most jump ins/cross ups too!
all i want to see now is a guide to see which character stays grounded or bounces
from when anti aired by her cr mk, lol

Hey Mr Dawgtanian ,it's a very good new.

Don't worry about haters and whiners ...
it's easy to destroy but to build it's harder ...

I hope Capcom will continue to innovate and revolutionize the future of fighting games.

STREET x TEKKEN is completely playable and very fun.
Tekken's characters, cross play and all possibilities involved in this game are so great that he deserves a second chance ...
Thanks Capcom to give us Version 2K13.
