News about Capcom vs. SNK 2 and Capcom Fighting Evolution coming to North American PlayStation Store coming next year

Posted by SFilp
December 19, 2012 at 6:43 p.m. PST
The PlayStation 2 port of both Capcom vs. SNK 2 and Capcom Fighting Evolution are now avaiable for download on the PlayStation Network in Japan.

As these are strict ports of the PS2 version, there is no online multiplayer or anything added to the game. Since they're unavailable anywhere outside of Japan, members of the Ask-Capcom forums have been asking if there were any plans to release these on the the North American PlayStation Store.

Christian Svensson jumped into the thread to give us a short but interesting reply.

Eventually. The timing will be quite different though from Japan. More news will come ‘next year’.

That's fine and dandy but I still want an HD port, not a PS2 classic.

Maybe its a license issue. Maybe they are allowed to release it in its unaltered PS2 format but anything else would have to get SNKs permission.

PS2 Classic? Disappointing since its censored (Ultimate Rugal instead of God Rugal, he say nothing when he use ''Genocide Cutter'' and Sagat no longer say ''Genocide'' during ''Tiger Genocide''.

I wanted a ''Online Edition'' like 3rd Strike or Marvel vs. Capcom: Origins got by Iron Galaxy. I rather Iron Galaxy worked on that then Darkstalker: Ressurection.

Well, there's the supposed 3-frame input lag of PS2 games played on the PS3 to worry about...

If you want to show supports for a ''Online Edition'' rather than a ''PS2 Classic'', please post here to show Capcom many fans when CvS2 to get the same treatment SF3:3S Online Edition and MvC: Origins got by Iron Galaxy.

"When this site [SRK] started in 2000, MvC2 was the cheap ass scrub game and A3 was the greatest game ever. CvS1 was SFxT level boring and dumb. Then in 2001 MvC2 was kind of accepted and CvS2 was "not real street fighter" because of all the dumb down fierces and roll cancels. Back then 3s was considered "not real street fighter" because it didn't play like ST, A2, or A3.

2009-2010, SF4 is scrub bs with easy inputs and huge reversal windows. 3s and CvS2 were the greatest games ever. MvC2 wasn't SF, but it was the greatest game ever by accident.

I figure, come 2020, I'll be turning 40, checking up on stuff and seeing everyone talk about how UMvC3 and SF4 AE2012 were man's games and SF5 or 6 and MvC4 or 5 cater to scrubs who don't want to put in real work to learn a game.”

~ ICEMAN, via SRK.

-------

Just had to put this out there before everyone starts posting about how CvS2 is the greatest game/favorite game, and the best game of all time, ect.

Anyway, even if it does come out, people won't play it for long and after a month or 2 it'll die out just like everything else. All of a sudden, all the "fans" that wanted the game so bad will be nowhere to be found. LOL, just like Skullgirls (which was and still is super over rated), VF5, ect.

I still have both PS2 disks for these games.

And I'm sorry, a least an HD filter is needed for these games. They looked amazing on old tube TVs. But on today's HD TVs they're going to look like A$$ Mode.

No HD remake... Just the 3S treatment.

Anyone who thinks CVS2 was the greatest game by Capcom might need to seek little help, BUT i'll still be buying this. Blanka beasts in this game! If you hate SF4 blanka, JUST WAIT until you play CVS2!

This game will be more of a novelty than a game that everyone will play, just because there are so many fighting games already out there - and many of them are more fun.

If you haven't CVS2 though, you guys should pick it up!

Didn't realize: no online play. :(

In today's market, can a company really put out a multiplayer game without online capabilities? Seems like a really bad business idea. It must be super cheap for them to release this.

I was really hoping to show the CVS2 newbs, the true definition of turtling with my blanka!

@graphf is your life or interests based on another's opinion? There's a crisp ton if reasons cvs2 is a great game troll. Remember when characters had character specific intros? The 3 different grooves gave a lot to learn and kept it fresh. The huge roster that includes a ton if fan favorites like kyo from rival schools for example or haomaru from samurai showdown.

I would like to have it to play when I feel like having fun or taking a break from other games. Maybe having it on a working system and not over paying for some eBay used disc. I'm 34 and I have never thought of any fighter as more than ones personal preferences. I like sfxtk my buddy likes AE more so should I only play what the trending game is?

Why do some people sit up on some high horse actinglike they have the final, end all statement that somehow has any meaning to anyone else's opinion? You posted that as if those words needed to be read by those interested in a release that'll probably cost $15.

Thanks for that though there was an opportunity for the first thread troll to make some stupid nonsense. You win, nobody bother themselves with this game. We've been caught, the jig is up.

Hope this means europe too! CvS2 is the second best fighter which is topped by 3s. The only thing CvS2 lacked was the amount of Q present (Obviously a joke).

I might be the only one here, but i really didn't mind CFE/CFJ as much as it was slated by fans and critics alike. Don't get me wrong, its far from a good game but i enjoyed playing it and the attempt of merging different games and their mechanics. Might buy it too if its a decent price for the product.

@23

Yes, I am guilty of riding a high horse and everything else you said because that is obviously what I did.

On planet Earth however, I posted that to show Iceman's quote from SRK. The point was to show how perception of games change over time. Games that were not well received at the time they were released are remembered by people as better than they really were. CvS2 was never a game that was fully embraced by the community, nor was it ever considered a super amazing game.

The general public now just sees the game as old/classic/retro/nostalgia and all of a sudden the game has a mystique about it that it never really had to begin with. Just listen to the way people generally talk about CvS2 in forums across the internet, they make it sound like it is the greatest fighting game of all time and if they only could have a HD and online version of it their life would be complete and it would do wonders for the FGC. anway, You can also see the truth of what I am saying by looking at it's tournament life, which was quite short. But anway,

It's achieved in death what it couldn't achieve in life.

I think the reason the game isn't getting HD remix / 3S treatment is because Capcom think there won't be enough people buying it for them to make money from the game (or significant enough money for the effort). Plus I get the feeling it will die too fast. Which is a shame because I know I would buy it with HD upgrades and online capabilities (3S treatment). This game is one of the major reasons I got into fighting games.

#14 I always played KOF, but I tried to play A2 seriously. A couple months after, my local arcade got A3 and that was the game around for 2 or 3 years (KOF 99 and 2k sucked so much that nobody except me and a couple of other guys were playing it in my region). But when I knew Capcom was doing a crossover with SNK, I started to have multiple gasms – I could play a Capcom game with a larger local fanbase using my favorite characters. That, my friend, was a dream come true!

Yeah, the first installment was kinda disappointing, but I'm such a fanboy that I think CvS1 was, at the very least, a very good game (Boxer + Vice + Blanka all day), but nothing compares to CvS2 to me!

With all that in mind, it’s ok to me when you say that the "community" didn't embraced the game or bitched about it for some time, then, after some years, they change their minds and try to paint it as a classic. I respect your anthropologic work (lol)! But please, don't say that I can't come here and comment saying how I love this game and that this was the ONLY fighting game I played from 2001 till the SF4 release (played a little KOF 2k2, but dropped to focus on CvS2), because I played this game more than any other game in my entire life (for example, I played it yesterday for about 3 to 4 hours)! You can say whatever you want about what you and your friends were mumbling about around 2002 (either in iRC, SRK forum, local arcade s**t talk, whatever), but me, my friends and my local community LOVED this piece of goodness!

Guys, this is in preparation for the all-CAPCOM fighting game that we begged for last year.

They release something related from throughout CAPCOM history, then a new game. Marketing seems tighter in the US than Japan. CofJ is will-nilly.

They will announce the all-CAP fighter for spring 2014, with Capcom Fighting Jam for the late fall maybe?

I would love to see a digital version with (more vividly) colored sprites for the DS, 3DS, Vita, XBLA, and / or PSN. C'mon, SNK Playmore, make it so.
