Persona 4 Arena wins Destructoid's best fighting game of 2012 award

Persona 4 Arena wins Destructoid's best fighting game of 2012 award In a awarding that came as a surprise, Persona 4 Arena took top honors in a community-run poll at Destructoid, one of the most popular gaming sites currently in action. The other fighting games competing against it were:
  • Tekken Tag Tournament 2
  • Skullgirls
  • Dead or Alive 5
  • Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale
This is not the first award for Persona 4 Arena as it also won the best fighting game of 2012 at the Spike VGAs.

Since both of these awards have been samples of community polls, public opinion seems to have accepted that Persona 4 Arena is a truly standout fighting game. Combining this with the game's great reviews on launch and the high attendance of players at major tournaments and it appears that Persona 4 Arena is truly the standout fighting game of 2012.

Given these awards and opinions, we would like to hear your thoughts in the comments below.

"Since both of these awards have been samples of community polls"

That not true. The nominees and winners of the VGAs are chosen by a panel of game journalists.

That isn't unBEARably suprising, considering the last prize that game won.

...I can do that all day, you know.

Not sure why people are surprised by this. Persona is miles ahead of its competition this year in terms of entertainment for the viewer and fun factor for the player. You don't see it on streams much anymore because if it's not Marvel or AE, it falls into obscurity.

P4A is the best FG of 2012, IMO.

I wish I was actually able to try it. Does it have a definite EU release date yet?

The game isn't Marvel or AE. It's an anime fighter, which is why you don't see it on streams.

Half the FGC hates Persona because they're bandwagoning with like 2 of the pro players (FChamp mostly.) don't like the game.

This game is fun, exciting, and more people should play it.

Excuse me, but aren't Destructoid awards chosen by the staff? I think they have a bunch of awards picked by the staff and then have a "Community Choice" award.

Whatever, good to see. P4A and TTT2 are the ones that deserve the award this year, IMO. If DoA5 or SFxT get an award I will laugh so much. Specially, DoA5. DoA5 is so bad. The tits are good, though.

The game is not out in Europe and is region locked so, well, f them. It won't get any awards from me, that's for sure.

Awesome that Persona wins best fighting game of 2012 at the VGA's and Destructoid. Also glad TT2 won over at gamespot because these games deserve it.This should bring in some extra love for the titles.(now if only doa could win a award some where :3)
Suck it h8ters!
Also lol at sfxt not even being nominated again.Hopefully this has open capcom's eyes on how not to screw over your fans next time.

Hating on Marvel and AE? LMAO

It's not on most tournament streams because P4A fans aren't coming out to support it. They would rather cry/complain online on forums and messages boards instead of coming out to play the game. Sad.

Get off the couch and support your tournament scene.

Ok same as the the TTT2 post these are just formulated opinions

imo P4A gives the feel of a typical arcsys fighter while at the same time adding in its own good elements that are shoutouts from the rpg. Game could use a few more characters to feel just right (There is still quite a bit of Persona 3 characters they could add). Although the casual audience looked at this game in a favorable light in terms of sales and reviews, as a fighter is underated(Although P4A STILL has decent tourney turnouts since release) at least outside of Japan.

Also nice of them throwing in a fairly large VN for those people not too much into fighters can only care about the story/characters since the game is a canon sequel of the rpg. Tutorial was also well done as well making things simple for anyone new to fighters although SG imo does tutorials best. Online after the patch was phenomenal and the many customization titles combinations available are phrase shoutouts from rpg so that was a treat too.

Love this game, so glad I got it at half price. I agree that this is 2012's best fighting game, TTT2 being second and Skullgirls being third.

@9

You don't see it on streams that often because not many people are coming out to support it at tournaments. It's not because of any dumb conspiracy theory you wanna cook up. Not enough people are playing it in a tournament setting. That is a fact.

It was the new flavor of the month for a bit, then it rapidly died down, then people hopped onto Guilty Gear XX Accent Core+ when it came out, and will hop onto the next BB when that comes out. Thank Arcsys for cannibalizing its own games, and for the game's players for not showing more support. Tournament support always starts and ends with the players.

I've been wondering why Soul Calibur V/SFxT aren't included in these FGOTY votes, personally.

I can't really speak for whether P4A is a good fighter or not since courtesy of utter nonsense the EU does not and probably will never get this game on our shores. And even though I'm a Soul Calibur nut, I would give the FGOTY title to TT2. SCV's development was clearly rushed and thus forced to cut too many corners while TT2 had all Namco's attention lavished upon it, providing a rather substantial roster, one of the best online experiences and a meaty in-game tutorial for newbies like yours truly.

Eh P4 arena wasn't bad but I find it hard to belive that it is a better game than skullgirls. Of course it's hard to fight for a game that that is getting no attention. Seriously I havn't seen anything about this game since the patch dropped . . . not one match.

I love the game. I wish Atlus JP gave ASW money to start making character DLC tough, as ASW clearly is more focused on BBCP at the moment.
