Smash Bros. creator says fans need to wait awhile longer on the new game, will be worth it

Smash Bros. creator says fans need to wait awhile longer on the new game, will be worth it Things are going to be very quiet in regards to the new Smash Bros. game being developed for the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, as according to series creator Masahiro Sakurai, fans are going to have to wait awhile longer for updates as he's hardly ever posting to Twitter, and he feels it's best if he could be forgotten by the gaming public for a bit so he can put his efforts into the game itself.

He wrote in his Famitsu column via Polygon and VG247:

"To put it succinctly, I'll need to have you guys wait a while longer. I hardly ever write anything on Twitter any longer, and that's because I think right now is the time to stop tweeting and start putting in a real effort here. If I could put it a really harsh way, I think it'd be better if I could be forgotten by gamers for a while."

"Instead of talking about what Smash Bros. will be like, I'm just going to say 'I'm making you wait for it!' and keep going along. I want to put my all into a full-on launch that really makes that wait worth it."

The new Smash Bros. title was announced at E3 2012, and there's been very little information put out there about the title since, besides a few random factoids and that Namco Bandai would have some involvement.

Unfortunately, it looks like this trend is going to continue for a good while.

Eh, makes sense to me. It always got awkward when Ono couldn't answer anything directly on Twitter. "could be wait ;)" (he meant "please wait").

I'll be watching the game, but I don't think I'm getting a Wii U or 3DS.

It isn't, but that isn't a bad thing. Doesn't change the fact smash isn't one of the most popular games of all time, way more popular then any fighting game.

things that need to get back, L cancel, hitstun on attacks (ergo combos), running down grabs (reverse grabs is good, but not as that good), crouching semi resistant at low %, wavedash isnt necesary, but it be good just to have a universal moving tool that way everycharacter will be useful at some point like the way gimpyfish make bowser a tournament character on melee, Link hookshot should be able to hit any part of the stage, same for samus, zssamus, ivysaur and olimar, why have those things if your forced to hit the edge of the stage, they need to make those things work the way they were mean to be on melee.

things that needs to be removed, easy as hell chaingrabs, like falco, pikachu, king ddd, ice climbers down chaingrab, striping the game needs this to go an forever be forgotten in hell.

As long as the final product is not a Melee/Brawl clone then fine. Let this Smash Bros game be its own game with own mechanics

I don't think anyone expected this Smash to come out until 2014 at the earliest.

Good, i feel like we know far too much about games before they come out, i wish sometimes large games like this would say "here's what the game looks like, out in 2 months" :O that would be crazy. That being said i also do not plan on getting a 3DS or WiiU.

That's good to hear, as long as they make it less floaty and that they remove the !@#$%?&*( tripping gimmick.

@15: agreed, i think it makes it more exciting when everyone starts playing and trying to see what secret characters and such are available. (fake rumors are funny as hell too)

I respect an answer like that. I've said it for several other games and I'll say it again: I will gladly wait for as long as it takes, as long as a quality game is being made. Nothing makes me more upset than games getting half-assed to meet deadlines. It's also nice to see that Sakurai is taking it so seriously. This wait is going to absolutely suck, but I know it'll be worth it in the end! <3

@11 *In my Excalibur voice* FOOL! It is a sequel, so of course it will have some similar mechanics! How would that make it a clone of it's own prequels?!!! I for one hope it doesn't stray too far from it's predecessors, for once the Wii U gets a price drop I shall be buying it for this game and the rumored Starfox game as well!

Im fine with it. Someone just send a big final tweet to Sakurai to leave out that god forsaken auto trip mechanic. That is an abomination.

Do that and all is forgiven. You can put Justin Beiber in it and I won't care.

* does an exaggerated Evil laugh and shakes head

Melee and brawl may be from the same series but they play very differently and have different appeals. Whatever the next smash game is I for one hope it does not give me the same recycled experience of melee or brawl since it would pretty disappointing otherwise. Although, its doubtful they would do things the lazy way

What the heck is everyone's problem, delayed games are always most better than rushed games. You want what Capcom did with RE6? Pushing it forward 6 weeks early for no reason.

@26 more like destroy its sequel.
