Job postings hint at PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale sequel

Job postings hint at PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale sequel A pair of job opportunities at SuperBot sprung up recently on Gamasutra which suggest that a sequel to PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale may be in the works. The first one, for a game designer, mentions finding someone with "a near encyclopedic knowledge of modern games, with emphasis on PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale," and "knowledge of fighting games, their systems and mechanics."

The second ad is for an art director for "a project such as PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, which by definition brings together elements ranging from an incredibly wide range of artistic styles, requires a strong and unifying vision to present a cohesive and polished product."

In that same posting, it notes candidates should have a "particular emphasis on the history of PlayStation titles and characters," which would fit the MO for another PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale game, as they'd be adding additional Sony characters to a new title.

If this logic holds up, this would be a bit of a shock to many people as the game was reported to have sold very poorly in the UK. On Sony's end though, they had said that sales numbers were "right on target" with their expectations.

It's a little soon to be working on a future title when the current one has just been put out. Granted it's not bad, however I would think it would make more sense to put a little more into the current before working on the next.

Could be just DLC,anyways hopefully if the are making a sequel the overall gameplay needs a change something that would make it stand out to most people it just looks like smash

SnakeX said on December 13, 2012 at 9:27 a.m.

This is actually not uncommon these days. Many companies look towards working on the next game in the series as soon as the current one is finished.

The only people that think it looks like Smash are the ones that aren't playing or paying attention to it. The game already has a ton of gameplay differences that make it stand out from Smash.

#4 yes it does I think the game is pretty fun so far but to the casual eye its just a smash clone, now I am not sure who are they trying to sell the game too

If anything, make it a launch title for the PS4 (or in their launch window).

Catalyst said on December 13, 2012 at 10:14 a.m.

That's one of the rumors right now, that this will be a PlayStation 4 launch title, but since there wasn't anything to back that up (at least that I could see), I didn't include it in the article.

It's a reasonable guess to say that this could be a launch title for the PS4.

If this one had Dante in it, then the next one should have Ryu in it. Simple as that.

i thought ryu would be in allstars for sure for the 25th anniversary. i like dante a lot though.

@11 - Yeah, keep telling yourself that. Maybe 20 years from now they'll bring back the old Dante as a joke character just like they put boxart Megaman in SFxTK.

If they are making a sequel, it needs more characters, more extra modes, and improved gameplay mechanics.

Sony x Microsoft. Make it happen.

Timic83 said on December 13, 2012 at 3:06 p.m.

i guess ratchet isn't in this game either, it's a redesign compared to his ps2 games. nor is raiden, he doesn't look like he does in mgs2. heihachi is a new design... get the heck over it. "Donte" is Dante.

@11 & 14: Listen up Anti Capcom Fanboy People;

UncleBibby is correct & he knows Dante is in Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale.

Want prove here is this link:

Dante is in the game but uses the DmC reboot appearence:

You guys should have better knowledge when it comes to certain fighting games, and stop living in lala land.

Heck I take every fighting game serious, and have a really passion towards fighting games including Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale.

Don't talk like you know who is in Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale when all of you barely care about or haven't even played the game.

UncleBibby said on December 13, 2012 at 3:32 p.m.

@18 - lol Thanks TrueGamingGuru. I'm glad you got my back!

TrueGamingGuru said on December 13, 2012 at 3:38 p.m.

@19 no problem I follow Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale since it was rumored & was currently developing. I know Dante is in the game because he was leaked & was announced in Gamescom at Germany along with Spike, Ratchet, & Sackboy.

These guys needed to know what games their even talking about and stop living in their own chidish dreams.

I pre ordered Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale, I know the game well.

The PS4 is still a long way to go, most modern games don't even utilize the full potential of the ps3 yet, so there is really no point to have a new system when the game stays behind. Metal gear Solid 4, GT5, uncharted and probably the upcoming MG ground zero are the only games that pushed its capacity.

First off, this game is more like a once in a life time style of game, putting in more characters such as side characters would be very complicated. Through their library, Sony protagonists are always powerful than their friends or aids. And no, some 3rd party developers denied having superbot borrowing their popular characters. I mean look at it, its a low budget game, a 12 yearold would think this was a ps2 game, the graphics aren't appealing, the sound system is the worst and dumbest sound effects Ive ever heard, the music isn't hyped or should i say good enough to listen too, there's barely any content, they reuse all of the challenges for each character. This is a very friendly game, it holds your hand all the way, i platinum-ed it in less than 4 days. its like someone giving me a lolly pop and trying to make me not sell this game. (What kind of moron makes a sequel when their game has been released in less than a month.)

Second, make something original, not from another game. I know Smash Bros is very popular and they are smash fans, but they borrow so much of it, it feels more like they are stealing. Look back at E3 2011, current Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said that they are making Smash Bros for both Wii U & 3DS and they will cross platform......Guess what happened at this year's E3 with Sony's conference, THEY DID THE SAME THING!They showed off the cross platforming.Sorry but even Rareware makes something original back in the 90s instead of borrowing Donkey Kong.

Just saying, just cause you did 1 game that is a Sony crossover that looks ridiculously similar to another game, having Seth Killian in very late, other popular developers would take a look at it, and might laugh at you on how poorly its executed.

TrueGamingGuru said on December 13, 2012 at 9:11 p.m.

@23 Your comment is just plain sadistic, narrowminded, & arrogant...

When it comes to owning rights from IP holders not everything is easy from Sony's first parties to third parties, and its not like all third party group has even denied them yet like Sony is still trying to get permission from Activision to gets the rights for Crash for him to appear in Playstation Allstars Battle Royale.
There is alot of you barely know anything nor even know what it takes to be a developer, and even getting rights to certain characters which at certain times that the third party company is either undecided or that certain third party teams are not interest of puttin their character in an all star fighting game.

The so called "other popular developers would take a look at it, and might laugh at you on how poorly its executed." thats mostly you pointing fingers on a game, which for whatever reason didn't even entertain yourself, or doesn't even know how to have fun besides a catch a flag pole which is very common in shooters.

Heres another thing let the developers, and creators make their own decision.
Playstation Allstars is very different in its own rights, and they didn't steal ideas. Look at games like Battle Stadium DON, DreamMix TV World Fighters, Viewtiful Joe: Red Hot Rumble, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Smash-Up, & Cartoon Network: Punch Time Explosion because these games play similar to SSB but different.
Look at other games that borrow certain gameplay concepts like Sonic & All Stars Racing, Modnation Racers, Crash Team Racing etc. borrows Mario Kart. SNK Fighters & Mortal Kombat similar to Street Fighter.

Heck if Playstation Allstars has a capture the flag pole and only involve attacks that would be like being similar to Conkers Bad Fur Day.

Besides Sony & Microsoft has always do similars like what Nintendo does for years, its always about rival companies doing certatin similar stuff.
