Street Fighter X Mega Man announced - free Mega Man cross over game available on December 17

Posted by Catalyst
December 8, 2012 at 12:07 p.m. PST
Capcom announced Mega Man X Street Fighter at the Street Fighter 25th Anniversary Grand Finals today. It's a cross over game on the Mega Man Style featuring various Street Fighter characters.

Mega Man will face 8 new bosses each of which are characters from the Street Fighter series such as Ryu, Rose, Blanka, Dhalsim and more. Upon defeating bosses, Mega Man will receive powers that pertain to each Street Fighter character. Some of the examples shown are Ryu's Hadouken and even Urien's Aegis Reflector.

This is a fan-made PC downloadable game and will only be available for free on www.capcom-unity.com/mega-man. You can download Street Fighter X Mega Man on December 17, 2012, the same day of the 25th anniversary of the Mega Man franchise.

The soundtrack for this game will be provided by A-Rival and will feature 8-bit versions of Street Fighter and Mega Man themes mashed together. Some of the examples given are Snake Man mixed with Dhalsim's theme and Ryu's theme mixed with Flash Man.

Back at EVO 2012, Singapore fan Seow Zong Hui approached Svensson with a skeleton of the game to get his opinion on the 8-bit crossover. Svensson then took it to GregaMan and Brelston for further evaluation and after playing it for quite some time, things started coming together.

Check out some in-game screenshots after the jump.

Yeah, that was a bit of a disappointment.
I kinda expected a new fighter. Then they showed MM2 and I expected a new, big budget Mega Man game. But... It's "just" a fanmod. Probably a very good, very fun fanmod. But just a fanmod.

Keep playing your zhit and stay happy while fans all over the world avoid the minority go vocal. Thanks

The sad thing is that this is the closest that Megaman fans will get to a new proper Megaman game and it isn't even made by Capcom. Even I'm now seriously starting to believe that Capcom hate Megaman. They won't even make a game for him themselves.

The trailer was such a tease. The intro makes it seem like the reveal is going to be Megaman in UMvC3, especially the whole rooftop scenario with Ryu, which is exactly like Marvel's intro. Capcom are just toying with both their Marvel and Megaman fans at this point. I'm so sick of their crap. It's like they're allergic to money and common sense.

Did it really take them this f#cking long to keep their megaman fans waiting? Lets see, they did a sh!t ton of Street Fighter, an anniversary game crossing over with Tekken, a year long tournament, a $150 box set that includes everything of Street Fighter History,

What did they do with Megaman? A sh!t Iphone game and this.......Including Street Fighter characters....well we know who's Capcom's favorite son. Leaving the bastard child in the dust even if that series has made their company where they are now.

@53 I'll help you out.

From the ign link Dblock posted:

This new 'cross' entry is a fascinating project, as it's not even something Capcom sought out. At EVO 2012, SF X Mega Man developer Seow Zong Hui approached Svensson, brandishing a laptop with a couple demo levels operational. Sensing an opportunity to do something special, Svensson quickly assembled a few key Mega Man fans from the Capcom office, including senior community manager Brett Elston, as a sanity check, to make sure what Zong Hui had developed was as good as it seemed. It was, and Capcom brought in some of its resources to assist in the game's development.

"We funded development of the project, provided creative input and direction, handled QA, marketing (including the great trailer created by Capcom-Unity’s own Chris Antista), sorted out legal clearances and naturally, handled distribution via Capcom-Unity.com," Svensson said. "I don’t want to downplay in any way, Zong Hui’s contribution. He was the creative visionary behind the game’s concept and execution. He was amazingly responsive all through the development process to our feedback, often turning builds into us every couple of days for more feedback. The iterative process was among the best I’ve seen.
