It's a damn shame that Breno couldn't make it and represent our country.... I was rooting for him so hard. Unfortunately the US Consulate agent denied him his visa claiming that he didn't "know of any such company called Capcom" inspite of being shown a hotel reservation, tickets, and the letter from Capcom which stated the purpose of the trip. Damn ignorant racist idiots ruined it for us. Oh welll. hope Daigo wins. Or Van. Anyone really but not Tokido and Infiltration's cheap Akumas

My pick to win is Daigo, but this really is a tournament of killers. Happy Medicine and Problem X are the only ones that are out of place. I would have loved to see Kazunoko in here, but oh well. Also, those matchups look amazing, these are gonna be held up as example matches for a long time to come. Anyone playing any of these characters needs to watch this, the level of play doesn't get any higher.

Daigo and Gamerbee will have to face each other before they see him and Infiltration, Mago, and Fuudo will all have to battle it out as well with Wolfkrone and Ricky in there for good measure.

Good God, this is looking ridiculous.

I wish all of these amazing players good luck. Especially WolfKrone and Sethlolol (our Michigan guys)!

I don't think you should count out Happy Medicine guys. I like Daigo too, but I've played Happy Medicine with Ryu (granted, my Ryu is nowhere near Daigo's level), and he knows the matchup well. He won the ft 10 against Alex Valle in the "Pandagon" and I don't think he'll win, but I foresee a first round upset at least. You heard it here first.

@ 59

I agree Happy Medicine is good and he may have beat Alex Valle's Ryu. But lets be clear and honest - Daigo's Ryu is like no other Ryu, his skillset with Ryu is way superior to any other Ryu I've ever seen (that's the reason that only Daigo can win tournaments with Ryu, and Ryu is not top tear by any means). I'm going for Daigo to win this after his win in Japan.

This tournument is stacked, no easy matches for anyone. Really looking forward to this.

NInJabReaKa said on December 6, 2012 at 12:17 a.m.

@55 LOL are you angry? I'm asking a serious question here and you're giving me an illogical answer and getting upset? It isn't fair for the rest of the third placers OR second placers that Vangief is going. And they don't even have to get anyone, they can just ask Poongko. He IS in the tournament and he was second place in Taiwan. Maybe YOU should think.

But that's not the question I'm proposing. My question is about fairness. If anything, since Brenofighter was from Brazil, they should have gotten the third placer from there. That's more logical if anything than to send out Vangief.

Besides, Capcom already spent so much money on the all year tournament, I don't think they'll be unhappy to pay for a ticket, but, regardless, it doesn't matter since they could've just asked ANYONE ELSE IN THE TOURNAMENT.

Learn to research.

Vangief is another Zangief player right, like Snake Eyez? This is less thna ideal, having a hard character to play and being subtop (dont get me wrong, very good skill but not at the top) playing against the world's best these matches will be over quikcly.

I wonder why they didnt ask PoongKO to enter, sicne he's already there. Maybe they did and he didnt want, being focused on that SFxT money.

#67
FallenProphecy's avatar
FallenProphecy said on December 6, 2012 at 1:36 a.m.

So Vangief gets the nod? So technically that's like 3 US qualifiers + 1 whereas every other region gets one qualifier? Lame.

7 Americans in 8 matches and none of them happen to face each other in the first round. Coincidence? I think not.

pretty nice. i agree that it would have been great to have a quick last minute qualifier for the two games on that Friday but the turnout would not be hi - USA is too big and too far for many.

i don't know how they chose the replacements, but it is what it is- i think it's fine. However, it would've been nice to see Poongko in AE since he's already there anyways. I'm sure they have their reasons.

AE = unpredictable. SFxT = unpredictable. Third = MOV vs Mester. SuperTurbo = Tokido vs Afro

Need to start a petition for 3 of 5 rounds for AE all the way thru! C'mon Capcom- this is a MUST!

#75
Default avatar
dorayaki said on December 6, 2012 at 5:24 a.m.

Couple of interesting notes I heard from topanga league:
Momochi mentioned that the cody vs Seth matchup he doesn't like and thinks it's in Seth's favor.
Even though he is in all four, Tokido is focusing and practicing on SFvT and is going to try hard to win it.
Mago was disappointed by his play in London area qualifiers. He knew he was going to have trouble prior to playing because he over warmed up. He was nervous and stayed up til 4am playing which, he said, was his problem. He won't do it again this time.

For once, I think SFxT might be hype! (can't believe i just said that)

#76
acku's avatar
acku said on December 6, 2012 at 5:27 a.m.

Mago only had rough matches against Momochi and Ryan, right? Did had to play a lot of Fei mirrors, that seemed as if they were students of him trying to copy their master :)

#77
Default avatar
dorayaki said on December 6, 2012 at 5:33 a.m.

Mago had rough match against Guile he said. Against Momochi, he thought he was going to go with Cody and was caught unexpectedly. He said that Momochi had very loud button clicks (empty buttons?) which bothered him the first match he lost. But he's confident against Akuma.
Momochi was the one who had a close call with Ryan they said.
Mago also said he doesn't lose to Gouken. 95% win. lol

Early predictions:

Daigo advances past Happy Medicine.
GamerBee advances past Dieminion. (runback from EVO)
Momochi over ProblemX.
Justin Wong over Tokido.
Fuudo over SnakeEyez.
Ricky over Alioune.
Wolfkrone over Mago.
Infiltration over Vangief.

2nd Round:
Daigo over Gamerbee. (runback from EVO)
Justin Wong over Momochi.
Fuudo over Ricky.
Infiltration over Wolfkrone. (hard choice)

3rd Round:
Daigo over Justin.
Fuudo vs Infiltration or Wolfkrone.

Finals:
Daigo vs. Infiltration or Wolfkrone. (if Infiltration, gonna be so hype)

Just speculation. Could be way different. :p

A longer set format would be an effective measure to ensure the cream rises. Still, I don't think Capcom sees mitigating the randomness of short frames as a worthwhile trade-off; those cats are gonna wanna limit play time, resources and streaming. Timetables to maintain and all that nonsense.
