This weekend we have the grand finals of Capcom's Street Fighter 25th Anniversary Tournament Series taking place in Burlingame, California.
Breno Fighters won't be attending, due to visa issues.
Minor mistake Afro Legends(Balrog) not (Balrgo)
Top 8 (In no order)
Daigo
Ricky Ortiz
Justin Wong
Wolfkrone
Infiltration
Tokido
Gamerbee
Fuudo
i think daigo is winning this thing really. it would be super epic and legendary. im talkin arceus type sh1t. the dude that has been the poster kid for competitive street fighter and fighting game success. i'll be rooting for justin and the americans (ailoune gets my support as well), but believe me when i say "daigo....he finna take dis".
btw to everyone look at all the characters represented for ssf4, mostly rushdown and then derpy rushdown(cammy,viper) this game so balanced right?
Wolfkrone has been in hiding as of late. I got a feeling he's about to destroy everyone.
Wow how many qualifiers were there for the US? There are 6 Americans in that list, so 3 qualifiers in America alone? That's kind of absurd isn't it? There are 5 Japanese but as far as I know, Japan only had one qualifier. Mago and Momochi got through the UK qualifier and Tokido from the Brazilian one. And why isn't there a representative from Singapore?
My Predictions from this tournament (aka who takes what):
SSFHD: America, mainly because we have the most entrants but also cause claw is not nearly as dirty in this version (yeah Tokido I'm looking at you....filthy muthaf**ker XD)
SFIII: Japan, aint no two ways about it Japan has this only thing who? Probably MOV imo.
SFxT: Korea, thinking Infiltration, but depending on how much he wants to retain his title as top SSFIV player he may switch focus weakening him in this area. Would love to see Tatsu take it though.
SSFIV: Japan, thinking either Daigo or Fuudo, but it really all depends on who faces who in the brackets. (though Daigo vs Justin would be gdlk)
@16 I doubt that the third place has a working american visa either. It will surely be some weird substitute, maybe any top ten that already have an american visa or someone from another qualifier, since it takes a long time to apply and receive an american visa in Brazil.
@21 (niggardly):
This is the highest level tournament you can wish for. Except for a few players that got second in the qualifiers, there is only the best represented here. Most qualifiers had fierce competition between those top 32 of last evo's.
I'm looking forward to this. Thanks EH for posting about it
@23
Watch out for the French Dudley he beat MOV at the French 3s tournament. The Euros will make a good showing in AE as well making upsets in early rounds.
Just realized that Justin Wong and Momochi are participating in 3 of the games and Tokido is the only one who reps all 4. Dat Murderface.
If a Winner is not available, able or willing to travel on the dates specified by Capcom, Winner privileges will be terminated, the Trip will be forfeited and the next highest placed Player from the relevant Qualifying Tournament shall be invited to participate in the appropriate Grand Final Tournament.
So if none of them from Brazil have a visa... they might even end up pulling something that just made it to the top 16 or 32
They could give Breno's spot to combofiend. He was at the Brazil qualifier, he will definitely make it for the grand final and he hasn't qualified for SSF4 yet.
Still bummed that breno can't make it though.
@18 why would Poongko qualify? Ever since he looked godlike at EVO2011 he has been a lot more beatable and hasn't exactly performed that well. It's hard to be consistent in tourneys with his high risk high reward style of play.
Why don't Daigo Umehara plays SFxT and why he stopped playing SF3 and ST?
How sick would it be if capcom decided to make a last minute qualifier to fill breno's place? I think a lot of people would like to watch that.
Can't wait! all the games looks so stacked that anything could happen.
Dear Capcom, please test your stream a million times before this weekend. <3
@51
Mago will definitly be in top 8, his biggest threat will definitely come from Dieminion (bad matchup) and maybe Daigo who is the only player, superior to him in term of skills.
There is two Feilong in the top 16, Rufus is free to both Mago and Fudo, same goes for viper, mago and fuudo know to well the matchup Cammy, and Dieminion has too much bad matchup to be a real threat.
I m pretty sure, a Fei long will be in the grand final, which i'm not pleased with, please anyone but Fuudo, he won enough.
If you ask me i want Momochi to win, as a reward for this great player.
Agreed with #12, just by looking at the characters...you can tell right away that Happy Medicine, Dieminion and Snake Eyez won't be winning this thing just because of the characters they use...charge characters has no chance because they can't utilize FADC that well compared to non-charge characters. Offense is still better than defense in this game.
Gief is soooo many ugly matchups and is easily countered by multiple characters.
Singapore got screwed, they should fry Xian in for this one.
Lol @ the UK getting "screwed over". It is no one's fault that the UK can't even win in their own location. If they didn't suck so hard, they would be in the tourney. Ryan Hart gets demolished every time he travels outside of the UK as well.
They should have a last minute qualifier on Friday, or use WNF winner tonight as the qualifier (probably too late to announce this). Breno would have got destroyed, so anyone from Brazil who was 3rd-8th would have been a big waste of a spot from a competitive standpoint.
Valle needs to be up in this tourney for sure...
Why valle ? there is already 6 american players, why not a japanese player (Bonchan, Kazunoko, etc) or a Korean player (Poongko for instance) or a europeen one, Luffy, or more legitimate, a chinese player, since there is no representative of this strong VS Fighting nation.
Why Valle? Because he would probably win the last chance qualifier, or Latif if he attended.
You have to win, or at least attend, some sort of qualifier to be even considered. I don't think Luffy attended any, and he has never done anything outside of defeating UK players (lol) anyway.
I would be fine with a last minute qualifier in China or Japan, but with travel arrangements and the tourney being so close, that isn't likely to happen. China has too many issues with citizens traveling outside of its territory that to up and leave to America in 3 days is NEVER going to happen for some random guy winning a videogame tourney. It is looked down upon in that country already.
Japan or America are the only options. America being the realistic one with plenty of A+ players having not qualified for AE.
Weltall drivel
If no-one from Brazil can make it (which would be a shame) there should definitely be a little cheeky last minute qualifier at the tournament with 'fair' representation from each of the countries where qualifiers were held.
@#35 I'm from the UK. We didn't really get screwed over. Don't let the salt of one stop you from watching a great tournament mate :(
I would prioritize in this order
1. Someone from the Brazil qualifier
2. 3rd place from any other qualifiers
3. 4th place from any other qualifiers
3. Someone who has already qualified for the grand finals
4. No one
Last minute qualifiers would be hell to organize and has too many issues.
To be fair to everyone, no one should get the spot if they didn't prove themselves in the qualifiers.
@#70
Yeah but seeing the look on everyone's face if Poongko got a spot would be priceless lol
@71
Poongko got 3rd at the Taiwan Qualifier so he's close.
@32
@56
Nobody deserves anything, nobody is undeserving of anything. The only thing that matters is that you are the winner and winner deserves everything.
You could be the hardest working player on this earth, but if you cannot win when it matters, you don't deserve anything.
Where has Poongko gone? I see he isn't on xbox live SSF4 AE 2012 leaderboard anymore?
Poongko has no money. He's trying to have a life and stuff. He'll probably be back next year though. He needs a sponsor for some money.
The fgc should put money where their mouth is and sponsor players they want to see.
Hi, FYI Poongko mentioned on his twitter before that TH is not sponsor, it's just a team.
Poongko did not win many tournament recently, but many people love to watch him, not sure why no company sees this, or perhaps the deal cannot accepted by both side.
Justin said he had some tricks up his sleeve for this one,cant wait to see this...
