Updated with final results: This story has been updated with the final results from GVN Summer Jam 6.
I feel so bad for Chris G he has been holding it down for the east for a while now but no comparison that I could see between who they wanted to win Yipes all the way.
YEEEEEEEEEEEES! LETS GO YIPES, FINALLY GOT THAT WELL DESERVED MAJOR WIN!!! Can't wait for the Seasons Beatings EC vs. WC 5 v 5. He'd better be on the team this year.
Yipes is one of the top 3 players on the East Coast. Sadly, he never enters tournaments very often (from a local standpoint;for whatever reason) so the display of his hard work is never seen from the public eye. He takes his play incredibly seriously and the whole weekend he has shown that he wanted this not for the "fame" of first place, but for the pride for himself and his supporters. Its good stuff to him. The average marvel watcher tends to sleep on Yipes and it was apparent in the Winners final set (stream monsters did not even think he was going to beat Fanatiq, AT ALL). Yipes not only has the tools to beat a player at Chris G's level, but the smarts to know hes not trying to JUST be Chris G; The player does not even matter, hes trying to win the tournament. Good stuff to him and all of the competitors.
this event was really good; Even if the stream quality wasn't that good, I enjoyed every time watching;
After SSF4 GF, I was really salty about the way Dieminion lost but at the end Yipes make me happy. The reason why a lot of people like him is because he is a cool guy and my favourite personality in the FGC.
So he took his first Umvc3 major. I am really glad for him.
OMG that was hype!!!! and thx EH crew!!!!!
These Marvel results are even better than those fraudulent ones at EVO. I think there isn't any of us unhappy for Yipes' victory. The guy is one of the most respected and looked upon competitors in the FGC, so it's normal most of the comments in here are nothing but praise and congratulations to him for winning. He deserved each and every one of these after all.
And I'm also happy for Krone and Minion stepping up their game. Krone most of all, since his victory proves he doesn't need an sponsor to keep doing good on his own.
#19 LOL the way you say it is like IFC Yipes hasnt placed in evo. He has place top 5 at evo five times in a game that imo was harder to place in than mvc3...mvc2. Why try to discredit his win? He had to beat Chris G who has won a few majors i believe and placed third in evo, fanatiq who has won a major or two and Marlin who has won one?? I believe??? (correct me if im wrong)so lets try not to make it seem like he played a bunch of scrubs.
@22 The fact of the matter is, THE top player to beat attended. That was Chris G. Chris G has defeated almost every top player in this country with his Morri/Doom combo and everyone has been aiming to take a tournament over him, plus the guy placed 3rd at this year's EVO, and Yipes BEAT HIM. Who cares about the other top players? Very few of them can get past Chris G anyways, but Yipes did. That's all that matters to me. I have nothing but respect for Chris G, but it was so good to see Yipes finally come back and have an answer for him and take him down in what was one of the hardest UMVC3 grand finals ever played. Amazing stuff from both guys, and I'm super happy for Yipes. Hope to see him placing high in majors more often.
Gratz on the DOA players and special Congratz to Lopedo for winning!
"Games included are ...Street Fighter X Tekken"
Hardly.
@nusense Tell you what let us assume that your saying the east coast is garbage and then trying to back pedal on it is true.Lets assume Yipes has done nothing since Marvel 2 what about Chris G the guy Yipes had to reset the bracket and then beat to win this event. He must be garbage if the living in the past Marvel 2 Yipes from the garbage east coast could beat him.
Completely missed it because I was travelling all weekend but I'm so damn happy that Yipes won. A rare victory for the good guys.
Loved seeing Yipes take grand finals, beating team morrigan in two sets of five was epic!!!
Too bad about sf4 grand finals, just watched the archive because I missed it yesterday and if you look closely it was player two that hit the home button on the controller. Other than that it was a great match, and congrats to both Wolfkrone and Dieminion.
What impresses me the most is Yipes has the least amount of Chris G tournament experience out of everyone that attended, and managed to get the most wins off of him. The man never goes to Big Two, yet noticed holes in his game plan immediately after the first 3-0. Meanwhile, the majority of people who've been playing Chris G every week for the past 8 months(Morrigan era) still can't touch him.
@ItzBoshyTime What makes the matches between Chris G and Yipes so important because it shows that not only his team has flaws, but him as a player has flaws. If you rewatch the matches, the level of adaptation on Yipes side was incredibly fast, to the point where Chris really did not have time to re adapt. You were not playing Yipes team, you were playing Yipes.
Yipes won because I believed it. Even when Yipes had his back against the wall. Good F*cking sh*t YIPES!
