DLC costume glitch patched out of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Taking fairly quick action on this one, a new patch for Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 was added recently which removes the DLC costume selection glitch. This is a 3 megabyte update on Xbox Live, and is of course mandatory.

Ryota Niitsuma, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3's producer, tweeted about the update today.

UMvC3 Notice: There will be an update to fix the DLC bug. It is planned to go live at 9:00 GMT.

IAmTamriver did a video showing how the free alt. DLC selection glitch was done. Again, keep in mind this no longer works after applying the patch.

I saw the patch just a few min ago and kinda freaked out. We've got a tournament this weekend and I was frantically going through all the characters I knew and testing their bnbs. Thank goodness it was only something like this. Sadly, spencer still has his up grapple unscaled ;_;

Capcom hasn't been the same for years. This is why I always say: "I love the games, not the company." Capcom I have lost all respect for you. And yeah, let someone come in here and say we're bitching. Do you honestly find this fair? Really? No patch for the online has been noted for Street Fighter X Tekken, and it's somewhat unplayable most of the time. It's not just the sound. Some people can't even connect. Yet, and still, you patch a costume glitch for a costume you took out because you felt it was insulting or some crap? No, this is not how a company is supposed to be. This is BS to the highest level. And yeah, I may be raging, but look at this. It took these guys merging with Namco to actually do something right for a change, because I'm sorry, UMvC3 just isn't fun anymore. You know what, let me stop before someone comes in and starts defending these bastards. I'm done. This news has saddened me.

This is a different team from SFxT, of course that team has the ability and time to patch this in. That should've been common knowledge =/

This doesn't bother me, people shouldn't be exploiting a glitch while others have paid for it.

SFxT is a different issue altogether though, and I have different opinions on that, but that is irrelevant.

As I said, I've lost all respect for Capcom. For a some time now, I have only bought games out of the love of the characters and the games themselves, not the company. I won't deprive myself of my childhood games and so on just because the company that makes them is a bunch of idiots. To add to companies that are making a comeback and smarter decisions, SEGA is also listening to their fans. So yeah, f&%$ you Capcom. Ugghh...I hate raging...

I'm not defending all of Capcom's actions, but you do realise they took this costume out for legal reasons, and not just to piss you off, right? Leaving this in would have left open the possibility of legal action against Capcom. If it was you, would you like to have a possible lawsuit hanging over your head? Best case scenario - lawsuit makes them take the costume out anyway, worst case - it costs them money, time, other resources, and they still have to take the costume out.

It is a shame that the coolest costume in the game happened to be the one that had to go, but deal with it and stop acting like whiney fμcking children with all the "OMG CRAPCOM! Y U SO MEAN! Y U SO NO LISTEN FANS!?! I HAZ NO RESTECP N E MORZ!". Don't think for a second that any other company wouldn't have done the exact same thing, if you do, you're a naive child who hasn't learnt how the world works yet.

Play UMVC3 online(Which sucks)? Or always have access to all the DLC costumes. Since I do not play online the choice is easy for me.

@26, maybe you should try reading the article. Being asked and being legally forced are completely different concepts.

The royal family filed no injunction against Marvel, despite the fact that the book still shipped with the image. Which is probably why nobody batted an eye when either the capcom or marvel side proposed using it for the game.

Capcom backed down to save face. The end.

jtir123's avatar
jtir123 said on April 5, 2012 at 10:05 a.m.

@28 An article is in no way a primary source. The Spanish gov't had expressed disdain over using the image of their monarch in such a way--not just in the game but also in regards to his image being used in the House of M comics. Allowing gamers to freely use this costume could create potential consequences, sure they could let it slide and decide to be risk-takers, but for a game they've already moved past, I don't think it's worth poking at.

It's a matter of priority. Why didn't they just completely remove it? They already know hackers are out there, do you honestly think I wouldn't have taken it out right after discovering this legal action? No, I would have removed it the MOMENT this was brought up. But go ahead, call everyone whining children. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Not that I care what anyone thinks of me.

#31
jtir123's avatar
jtir123 said on April 5, 2012 at 10:17 a.m.

@31 What...are you talking about? Their goal was to remove it. They (the UMVC3 team) didn't think it was an issue until the public found out about it--remember, the costumes were kept a secret until they were announced. By the time Spain's gov't even expressed a hint of dislike, it was already "too late".

And if you're asking why didn't they remove it earlier, that is even easier to answer. You can't remove data on someone's disk, but you can block the general public from exploiting a glitch. Even with a patch, you can still hack the data off the disk, but only a small and insignificant minority even cares to do so.

@34 no it is rrelevant. When they fould a tune that would not blow over with the muslim community, they had massive recalls, delaying the game just so they wouldn't upset anyone. Media molecule went the extra step, along with the patch

#37
jtir123's avatar
jtir123 said on April 5, 2012 at 10:41 a.m.

@37 It's irrelevant because the title was delayed--the process was stopped before it got out and was able to be fixed. In this case, the only way for Capcom to remove the data is to get all of the physical disks back.

jtir123's avatar
jtir123 said on April 5, 2012 at 10:47 a.m.

@40 As if the Spanish gov't followed the UMVC3 hype train. Of course they received word of it much later than gamers did. Regardless, the costume itself was never released, so it was never an issue with the exception of this glitch.

#41
Default avatar
trufenix said on April 5, 2012 at 11:06 a.m.

@Jtir123, Marvel HAD to be consulted on all things regarding character appearance in the game, period. Before it was on the disc, before it was revealed to the public, before it was even modeled on some Capcom PC. So either Marvel pitched it and Capcom knew nothing about the controversy, or Capcom pitched it and someone at Marvel looked the other way. Either way, it was known (by the Marvel guys who have to legally approve) that this costume was being used again.

Regardless, as Marvel mentioned in their defense during House of M, artists do this all the time, either as tribute or parody because (in america anyway) its probably protected under free speech. Spain just took it the wrong way, and people like you turned a molehill into a mountain.

#42
jtir123's avatar
jtir123 said on April 5, 2012 at 11:15 a.m.

@42 I didn't make it a big issue. Neither did Spain. They disliked the idea, therefore it was withheld. You don't need them to sue you before you know to not do it.

Just like you don't need a bear to maul to know that it's dangerous, it's the same case here. When the government of an entire country feels negatively towards what you're doing, it's best to step off.

Could be major or minor consequences, but would you have risked it?

#46
jtir123's avatar
jtir123 said on April 5, 2012 at 1:16 p.m.

The ignorance in here is out of control. Spain never complained about Mags alt. They never even batted an eye lash at it. Capcom removed the costume for fear of controversy that never happened and WOULDN'T have happened. Spain never had a problem with Mag's House of M uniform, they had a problem with ONE picture which was clearly in direct copy right infringement of a picture the King once took.

http://robot6.comicbookresources.com/...

That was it. House of M was released in Spain and across the world and Magneto is seen wearing that outfit many times and Spain and the King had no problem with it. They never even contacted Capcom about the alt. Capcom just removed the alt cause they thought it"might" bring up controversy but it wouldn't have considering the outfit was NEVER the cause of the controversy to begin with it was ONE picture which was clearly copy right infringement.

And we can plainly see how fast and hard they work on fixing something that affects them and their money. Since 2011, I've really been getting disillusioned about Capcom. I don't think they care about their consumers as much as they say they do. =/

I don't understand why capcom is technically taking mmore money from us by not releasing the magneto costume (i believe the pack is priced the same) and yet they'll patch it in a second as soon as they find they could be in trouble or losing money, such a selfish act.

They have the model done already, why dont they just edit it with some colours and have magneto randomly wearing a tux, it's legit
