GameSpot takes a look back at Street Fighter EX 3

Posted by SFilp

Maxwell McGee from GameSpot put together a video looking back at Street Fighter EX 3. This was back when Capcom decided to try and make Street Fighter on a 3D playing field, it came out in March of 2000 and has probably weirdest cast of fighters in all the Street Fighter games.

Let us know your thoughts on the game in the comment section.

Looks like they recycled a lot of stuff from this game and put it into SFxT.

SFEX3 is full playable on PCSX2. Awesome graphics and full 60FPS.

The tag system is very good , like SFvsTK.

SFEX series is predecessor for SFIV.

This is the best example of how much graphics can hamper a game's popularity, this was amazing gameplay wise, I loved the EX series.

If only it came back with Tekken style graphics.

I've played EX 1 and 2 and I absolutely loved D. Dark and Skullomania. It's a real shame Capcom can't ever use them in their games again...

Played EX and EX2 on my PS and it wasn't bad at all, and ironically EX3 looks a lot more fun than SFxT imo.

@#13 Cauptain

The tag system in EX3 felt quite nice compared to that of SF x Tekken. You didn't lose immediately you lost one character, and the clock was actually done right.
Its own form of Cross Assault was also great.

Ah no wonder I never played this game, it came out around the same time as Capcom's best 3D game ever - Project Justice!!!!!!!!!!

I do want an ace like character/s for future SF games. Like have a character who specializes in Shoto moves, Another who does "Kempo"/Assassin Style like Chun, Gen, Rufus and the Lee Twin, ETC like that.

I still have my import copy of "Street Fighter EX Plus Alpha" on PS1... I remember getting it from either "Game Cave" or "Japan Video Games" and wondering if I even ordered the CORRECT game, when I only previously knew the title of the game as "Street Fighter 3D". lol
I had a similar issue with "Street Fighter Alpha", when it was originally known as "Street Fighter Legends". I got my copy with my PS1, back when the games came in those ridiculously big/long boxes, before they started using regular CD jewel cases. lol

I played the heck out of SFEX+Alpha, but didn't really get into SFEX2 and SFEX3 much. I mean, with how much I had been playing MVC2 over the past decade or so, along with other great Capcom fighting games of the time, I didn't really feel interested in Arika's vision of how Capcom's Street Fighter games played...
I know that characters like Skullomania have a huge fanbase, so of all the characters in those games, he's the only one I wouldn't knock. I DO love the drawn artwork for some of the characters' portraits, but I got sick of the way the polygon models looked, the "hallway view" when that orange-haired retard throws his "Fireball!" super at you, and the "DHC" super chains were just silly looking and impractical to even use, most of the time.
Oh, and the overall character design for characters like the orange-haired retard, the Cracker Jack guy with the homoishly tight pants, the severe overload of shoto-type characters, dumb@ssed D.Dark and his retarded looking moveset... ugh...
--And the crappy FMV/CGI endings for SFEX+Alpha were just so barfable.

I DID remember liking a bit of the soundtrack for SFEX+Alpha, so at some point, I downloaded Chun Li's and Sakura's themes to add to my music collection. :)

I still play this game over many new titles. Could it use work of course but even with that in mind the game was still pretty good. It had one frame inputs, counters, tag team battle, four player match. Basically with a few tweaks this game would be great. Just wish Capcom Fighting All Stars would have come out. Still say that game too could have been a huge hit.

Man I miss Arika, I hope they somehow get involved in TxSF since they've already worked on Tekken 3DS. Should be great seeing Skullo and the gang duke it out once more.

@27, orange-haired retard? Blanka?

I thought the graphics and UI actually held up quite well over time. Of course I watched it in a smaller YT window so that may have helped but everything looked pretty clean given it was released in 2000.

I too wish some of the Arika characters could come back. D.Dark was my favorite from the first game even with his odd voice and moveset. Something about him was awesome.

One day maybe!
