Regardless of if they actually make it in or not, I'm just happy Gene and Jedah actually ranked so well. It's nice to see there are (comparitively) quite a few people pulling for some of the characters I'd like to see make it in.

Well, I hope we're smelling some DLC characters if that's what you're getting at. I've said from the beginning I'll always be happy to pay money for more characters after a release. I'd be happy to buy a new release every year like Madden, and I'll be thrilled when they announced SF5, MVC4, SFxT2, and MK10.
How is it that Megaman exe is on there but not Megaman Volnutt, I don't mean to hate, I love Megaman exe as much as the next guy, but Volnutt has already been in a VS game so he would be easier to put in. Also Eddie Brock Venom and Jon Talbain for the win (now if they would just add Rikuo and the Lizard)

Megaman.EXE has the moveset potential! and came in 2nd place in the Pixiv poll(the same poll that got toro the cat in SFxT). put him in!
This poll was pretty dumb in my opinion too many characters that you werent allowed to vote for according to the site rules. Asura placed high everywhere else but was not allowed because CC2 who expressed that they wanted him in the game owns the rights. Striders rights are not capcoms either but the owner of strider agreed to it. CC2 showing an interest and them not allowing the vote was dumb. End rant.

Of course people are just going to vote for Gambit and Venom because that's what they remember from the cartoons when they were kids. In current continuity those characters don't mean crap. Psylocke is in the best Marvel comic being put out today (Uncanny X-Force) and is about to be more important after the X-Men split into 2 teams. Same goes for Cyclops (obviously). But since everyone is stuck in 1990, they just want to see Gambit a character that is worthless and hasn't done anything important in the last 10 years. Whatever.

I guess the difference is that the Avengers all have their own comics and storylines, the xmen were so dominant in MvC2 that people are sick of them. Personally i dont want too many Nostalgic Characters, this is the new generation or MvC, get the newer chars in(so gene and characters like anti-venome are okay with me)

For Capcom put either Akira from Rival Schools or Asura from Asura's Wrath since they need another girl and a rival schools representative and they need to promote their upcoming game.

Hmmm, that's a really bad comparison. Not sure who RR is but I'll do a bullet point format here.
- Iron Fist was winning awards and recognition before Brubaker left. The series slumped because of the crappy writing afterwards, it was never the same since.
- I don't know anything about the Hawkeye series in 2004 but I don't need to. The 4 mini's he has had since then have been very successful and like Iron Fist (before Brubaker left) has won awards and is well received. Blindspot concluded this August, it was good, go check it out if you haven't.
-To Marvel it's probably more cost effective to do Haweye mini's instead, they can also take their time and put out better stories without pressure. The results speak for themselves.
- Both Hawkeye and Iron Fist were included because they are Avengers. I already showed above in a previous post that there are a total of 10 in this game. That is Marvel's flavor of the week, it's what they are pushing in movies, cartoons, and comics (Fear Itself).

4 of the top 5 on the marvel side won't be coming. When will people learn that this isn't x men vs street fighter 2. You already have 7 x men characters. Youre not getting any more. And youre especially not getting brock venom since, ya know, he doesn't exist in the comics anymore.

Not sure what your point is but the Avengers do have more people that can stand out in their own series. They have been made into Marvel's version of the Justice League. That still doesn't take away from the fact that they are in the Avengers. When you have Wolverine and Spider-Man on two Avengers teams you can't turn around and say "Well they aren't really Avengers", because they are.
Out of the X-Men, X-22 and Wolverine have there own series. Magneto receives his own mini's here and there. Jean has been dead for years. Storm doesn't have a series.

The difference is Avengers was made to bring the heavy hitters into a team and accept EVERYONE from any sect of marvel
X-men and all of it's spin offs, there's on rule you gotta be a mutant or at least believe you're a mutant(in the case of Cloak and Dagger) or into Pro-mutant matters as your main storyline. So there's already that barrier, and secondly the X-men were founded as a group, Wolverine got lucky as he was original A HULK GUY who came into X-men as the loner dude so you could see him strike it out on his own.

Oh you mean Rocket Racoon? Yea that is a Capcom requested character. It's what Capcom does, they like characters that distinguish themselves from the rest of the cast. (silliness, unique look, ect.) Their line of thinking is, Marvel has a character who is a Racoon, there is no one else on the roster that looks like a Racoon, let's see if we can do something with him and put him in the game. Same with Shuma and (i assume) MODOK. Look at this guy with the big head, he looks different, what can we do with him. That is pretty much what it boils down to. Sometimes they break from that (Vergil) but I assume it's a case by case basis. X-23 was obviously pushed by Marvel to be included in the game. Not sure who wanted She-Hulk.
3 Types of Megaman? Damn! Capcom cant do that to begin with and choose 1 only! To be honest, I DONT want Xor Vulnut, any megaman is alright but the other 2 already have Tron and Zero representing the series.

Well, yea of course it's a collaborative effort. Marvel has the final say so, Capcom can't force Marvel to do anything. That doesn't change anything, Capcom saw Rocket Raccoon, requested to use him, most likely had a back and forth on how he would be designed, what they would do with him, until Marvel said "Ok, sounds good. Go for it."
There are some characters like X-23 and Hawkeye where Marvel says "We want these people in the game, figure out the rest." Those situations suck but it's what happens when you deal with another company. Luckily, Harada-san is being a lot more generous for Street Fighter X Tekken and letting Ono do whatever he wants. Capcom doesn't have that luxury for MvC3.

@103 and 107 not entirly true basically what happened is Capcom would have this huge list to go through and decide what character they want to use. What happened is that they would come to a situation where they ask for a specific character and for some licensing reasons they could'nt but would suggest using another character instead (Super Skrull instead of Fantastic Four).
No character was forced to be used by Marvel, instead they had a list of available characters they could use. They had a lot of choices.
In addition they would suggest certain characters in order to promote their movie and comic tie-ins.
Finally Marvel did'nt get their way all the time. They did'nt want Sentinel but they got him in. They also did'nt want Shuma Gorath but he made it in as well. Capcom still has some say so in their MvC games.
I'd like to have X and Zero on the same team.

as you said iron fist comics has won awards now but im talking about before Matt Fraction and Ed Brubakeris picked it up and did a great job. im talking about when Roy Thomas was writing and the comics were meh to say the least.

Oh for the love of god, which of you X-Men fanboys keeps voting for Cyclops?! You do know that he has nothing in the way of moves other than eye lasers and that his previous appearances in fighters were nothing more than a beam-spamming shotoclone! And yet he keeps getting high on these freaking lists! And besides that, Cyclops is the biggest, most self-righteous a-hole in X-Men history. He's not likeable in any way any more!
This is why Capcom probably shouldn't listen to the fans. Not if they keep pushing characters that deserve more popularity like Songbird of the Thunderbolts for more X-Men characters and not good ones either.
Then maybe we can see some more underappreciated characters in the Marvel universe like Nick Fury.
@68 Spidey is promoting his series and Wolverine is repping the X-Men. You can't count them in this as Avengers. Same deal with Nova, Iron Fist and ESPECIALLY Dr. Strange since two of his villains are already in here. There are only 5 Avengers: Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk and Hawkeye.
To count Wolverine and Spider-Man amongst them is bullcrap because practically 85% of all Marvel Superheroes have joined the Avengers at one point or another. That doesn't mean they're promoting the Avengers by being added into the roster.

What's the point of putting in a character they have no plans for in the future and hasn't retained their popularity in recent times? Take Gambit for example. The guy's in my Top 5 X-Men and it would be nice to see him back but really? What's he done to keep his fans recently? All I see him do is act as a prop in other comics.
And really, other than MODOK and Jean Grey, letting Marvel decide most of the roster hasn't really done much of anything wrong in terms of characters. (You can disagree with me all you want but really other than those two, I can't think of anyone on the roster that I'm not fond of. If it weren't for you whiners, I'd still hate Rocket Raccoon)

The characters are as good as the writer. Wolverine and Deadpool are examples of characters I hated until I read the current Uncanny X-Force (which again is one of the best if not the best Marvel comic out there). Now, I enjoy them both. I like Deadpool in X-Force but I can't stand him in his own solo series. Different writer, different tone, not my taste.
If someone does a turn around on Gambit in the next few years, they can change my perception of him. I'm not closed minded, I'm not a hater. If a comic is good, it's good simple as that. Gambit is going to be in the new X-Men Legacy book with Rogue. I like some of Mike Carey's work, but the pairing seems forced. We will see how the book turns out but I'm not getting my hopes up. The other 3 teams look 10 times more interesting, (Nightcrawler joining X-Force is a big WTF).
That's really my whole thing. There are characters who are making an impact now that are awesome like Psylocke that in my opinion trump losers like Gambit. And although I like Iron Fist, I'm not going to defend his inclusion in the game. I don't blame the fans who are stuck in the 90's, it is what it is. If Gambit becomes a decent character again, I'll be his biggest advocate. But for now, screw him.

Also Weskers S has kinda like a spining Tail effect to it that im guessing was a good old Kurt Wagners tail, lets not forget Weskers Teleport that leaves something like Smoke in his vanish.

Alot of these characters have boring movesets
like gambit cmon he is pretty standard fair as far as movesets go(but he is awesome I will give you that) and i never saw venom do anything special either, they would have to give both of them a complete overhaul.
On the hand the marvel characters they have selected for UMVSC3 have awesome looking movesets
Hawkeye: A viable-looking arthur-like projectile based game with status effects (can do long ranged zoning combos)
Dr Strange: A trap/set up master with a slew of awesome projectiles and combo potential
Iron Fist: Unique power up mechanic and close up street fighter like style
Ghost rider: the games first true dhalsim like character, plays keepaway without using projectiles
I was not initally excited for these characters but after observing them I think that they are better than what fans might be requesting
But I still want Gene and Green Goblin!

i mean i can understand why some characters would be dull and boring like cyclops and classic megaman to get in but Niitsuma him self said gambit and some other fitted the game and they wanted him but marvel didn't(thanks to marketing propaganda bs) but he still isnt being ignored.

You're insinuating that only those who want Gene/Gambit/Venom/X are casuals who want these characters JUST because they should be in the game based on principle rather than ACTUALLY using them.
You couldn't be more wrong. For all intents and purposes, by your logic, Strider shouldn't be in the game because everyone will "just go back to mashing with Wolverine" after 5 minutes.
Most people want these faces because they will add more to the game's variety while pleasing the fans by adding in their favorites.
/awaits people who fight this post by arguing about characters not having legit movesets to add to the game because that's totally not what they did with Arthur/Firebrand/Haggar.

You guys are so dumb. Adding characters like X and Gene would only hurt the fanbase more. Those series are pretty much dead thanks to Capcom for killing them. Leave them out of this sorry for an excuse game.
Those Capcom unity dudes lack good taste. Silver Surfer should of been number one for Marvel and Apocalypse should of been up there. Gambit and Venom is good and all, but those two are just old news.
For the Capcom Side, Mega Man EXE or even Starforce would be better than X. Vanessa from P.N.03 would of been awesome, she offers more than almost more of the voted Capcom characters. Urien or Gill should of been high up there in the top ten. I do like Captain Commando up there in the polls.

i don't think of this list as who's most likely to get in, it's a list of how we are to pay for them. i'd bet more than just the top 2 from each side are dlc. maybe 5 or 6 (barring legal stuff and marvel's input), the vote simply tells them which order to release them.
I want Mr. Negative for a Marvel character and at LEAST The Godhand in this game.
I would B kinda upset if either Gambit or Venom(Eddie Brock) made it into this game. I'd B kinda pissed if Anti-Venom made it too. They're just such unrealistic choices by the marvel cast.
-I mean Gambit hasn't been important since... the 90's. Seriously hanging wit X-23 and showing up every once & again is the only reason ppl still kno he's alive.
-As 4 Eddie, he hasn't been Venom in over 15 years if not more.
-And as for Anti Venom, I just never much liked him. He seems like a poor excuse 2ruin Eddie's once great reputation in an effort 2save his life and make him somewat relevant, thou only 2B used as a plot device in future storylines.

He's one of the worst designed gary/stu characters ever.. He's a thief AND he's a martial artist AND he's a Cajun AND he's a Mutant AND he has quite possibly the stupidest accent ever mon amis AND he uses a quarterstaff with all sorts of built-in gadgets AND he throws playing cards at people AND he wears a trenchcoat AND he luckily wisecracks his way through perilous situations without breaking a sweat AND he has a way with the ladies AND he gets into a longterm relationship with a more established character AND he has the obligatory mysterious/shady past AND he gets retconned into older continuity AND.. It's like some 13 year olds godawful fanfic character, comic fans hate him which is why he hasn't been in anything significant since the 90's ended..

Although to be fair back in the late 80's this was an enjoyable storyline the FIRST time..
But then came all the Venom recolors in the 90's & it started to get old fast.
Again another case of longtime comic readers hate him yet 12 year olds think he is the coolest, which is why there are 3 such recolors of a character who is himself a cliched evil recolor in the top ten of the Marvel poll..
He is Marvels shameful equivalent of Shadow the Hedgehog & the kind of people that like him are probably the same type of people who make Sonic fan characters on deviant art.
lol @178, but I strongly disagree wit Ur views on Venom. Thou I preferred Mac, I highly enjoyed Brock's run as venom, as venom wasn't really a criminal as much as he was sumone who just hated Pete.

I agree with you completely. Gambit is an amalgam of some of the worst cliche's in history. I can't stand the character.
I also agree with you about Venom. I enjoyed him as a kid, I even I had one of those discontinued "I want to eat your brains" talking Venom toys, but he became a little too overexposed for a character that is your typical cliched evil version of the protagonist. I would much rather have Spidey villains like Dr. Octopus, Sandman, Green Goblin, Vulture (lol j/k, Mysterio, and Lizard.
I just don't understand why there aren't more Spider-Man related characters in the game, there is only Spider-Man. Does Marvel despise Sony so much for having the movie rights to Spidey, and not giving them up, that they they don't want to potentially advertise for their movie next year? Who knows? Just seems odd.
@137 Actually Nova is representing the Cosmic Marvel side of the universe and Marvel have out and out stated they plan on bringing him back. And Iron Fist is getting a new series soon.
So NO! They aren't representing Avengers. In fact, I don't think Nova has ever even joined the Avengers at any point.

There are alot of avengers but at some point almost everyone has been a dang avenger but they all have also had their own series I hate to say this as a fan but I am glad capcom doesn't listen cuz most of the characters in the poll I wouldn't want in the game I think we got some good characters is there a couple more I would like yea but venom, gambit, no thanks they have had there time in the spotlight I think this games needs more new faces personally I think capcom is doing a really good job with their choices the only new character I don't like is ... People saying Nova is representing the avengers obviously know nothing about comics history. Nova has shot down the avengers on two occasions that I can think of off the top of my head. In this game he is obviously representing the same group rocket raccoon is representing. The guardians of the galaxy. Dr strange is repping himself seeing as he has two of his villains already in the game in Dormammu and Shuma gorath. As far as the votes are concerned.... Gambit is a complete and utter joke and megaman is dead as a franchise and pathetic as a character. Zero is a much better FG character than he ever was. I am very happy capcom and marvel have chosen to ignore the fan base for the most part. If they had not we would all be playing Marvel Vs Capcom 2.5
I never will understand the "Too many Avengers" argument. Almost everyone was an Avenger at some point. They have all started in their own titles and have consistently supported their own titles. They're not just considered "Avengers characters".
Wolverine is famous for being an X-Man, and was an X-Man a lot longer than several of the Avengers were Avengers. When people think of Spider-Man, do they instantly think Avenger? Does anyone actually look at him and complain about it being too many Avengers?
IMO the only characters who should count as Avengers for the game are Cap, Iron Man, Thor(due to the "Avengers assemble!" line), Hawkeye, and MODOK.
I'm quite pleased with Gene's placement. I'd actually have to play this game if he got in.
@190 Im not one to jump the "where is megaman" fanbase but give credit where credit is due. Megaman is the face of Capcom, you can't think about Capcom without thinking Megaman. Zero is a gimmick, a cheap stereotypical robot ninja with a lightsaber; a terrible design in the imagination department. This asthetic look automatically wins the "cool points" with kids but he is above all generic and a terrible attempt to replace Megaman in the series just like Alex was to replace Ryu or Apollo to replace Pheonix Wright.
As for Gambit, Gambit is one of the most popular X-Men in the series and was even demanded highly to be in the next movie at some point (dispite peoples feelings towards it). It's no denying why people want him weather he was in MvC2 or not.
I am for inside company inspiration but at some point you need to listen to the fans because you eventually start dividing the fan base and that potential draw you need for your game is lost becaue you pick characters and features people could care less about.
If you ask me Niitsuma needs to get imaginative and stop making excuses not to put Mega Man (whatever) in. Im tired of the developers tears.

Hey man, don't shoot the messenger. But yeah, Namor and Black Panther would make great additions. With both characters rumored to have movies in the works and Marvel trying to represent the more obscure characters, the two would be VERY viable DLC characters.
@207 It doesn't matter if "without Cyclops, there'd be no X-Men" that doesn't translate to gameplay. What does is superpowers and fighting style and Cyclops is not very effective in either of those and the fact that he was nothing more than a mere shotoclone with easily spammable projectiles in the previous games is proof of that.
@16: Unless Cyclops gets some new tricks like the ability to fire his Optic Blast downwards and strike aerial foes.

What I find ironic is how before the original MVC3 came out, people complained about female characters getting in over their favorite male characters. Trish over Vergil and Nero. Morrigan, Felicia, and Hsien-ko over Talbain, Jedah, and Dimtitri. Tron over MM. Viper over Ken, Guile, and Bison. And X-23 and She-Hulk over Cyclops, Gambit, and Venom.
And now there's complaining about UMVC3 not adding any new females.

Realistically there are only 4 characters from either company that have an actual shot here. Write this down and remember you heard it here first.
Marvel
Ms. Marvel why? She is very popular and highly requested right now and fits with their current comic/movie plans.
Thanos. Why? Probably their most marketable character everything he touches makes marvel a mint.
Black Panther. Why? Highly Requested and fits the current marvel strategy.
Ultron. Why? Hes one of the avengers main villains Could happen easily.
On the capcom side of things its even more cut and dry.
Megaman Classic or X will make the game if there are DLC characters. Why? It would be business suicide to not include him and shut the fans up. I would prefer Dr Wily but thats just me.
Asura. Why? Great new character being pushed heavily and both teams actually want it to happen.
Tessa. Why? A magician and a Chick basically capcoms female Dr Strange counter. It cold work.
Vanessa Z Schneider (P.N.03) Shes also a chick and bad ass to boot capcom knows there lacking on the chick department. I would prefer nina from BOF but because Firebrand takes care of the flying character I cant see them adding another winged character to their side of the roster.
In a nut shell even I do not like all of the choices I listed but realistically there the Only ones that even have a legit shot. People voting any other way is simply wishful thinking and a waste of time.
This game does indeed need more ladies, I am hoping they put Cammy from street fighter, I'd be satisfied with just her. People always say that x23 and Jill basically amount to Cammy but it's all bs
The four most-requested characters in this poll (who have been a constant in other polls, perhaps only behind characters that actually got into Ultimate) are going to be DLC. You're more inclined to buy DLC characters if they're the most requested, than if they just put them for free and ask you to buy characters like Psylocke or Captain Commando.
@217 I think Ryu's Shinku Hadoken can do that now though. Anyways Cyclops' main form of attack is to shoot eye lasers. There's only so much of a moveset you can create with that kind of limit. I think we're better off without him.

@216 Cyclops is an extremely formidable hand 2 hand fighter and very creative when using his lasers. MvC2 was kinda a poor showing of his fighting skills since he ended up as another Ryu shoto. But his actual skill set would B quite amazing 2C tranceded onto the UMvC3 platform as hand 2 hand Scotts skills rival those of Wolverine if not surpassing him. And the man's an expert tactician. Not saying I wanted him in the game, just saying he could definately hold his own.

There is one thing that I miss in MVC2 I wish they would have done more in UMVC3 cameo hyper combos like bb hoods woodsman bustin shots, captain Comando calling out his boys Jin using blodia. Hawkeyes calls out antman which I like but I really would like more of it I'm hoping rocket raccoon calls out grout or some of the other guardians of the galaxy for some attacks or supers
@234 I agree.Donovan from Darkstalkers is like that too(most all his attacks summon a different character plus hes always being followed by that little creepy girl),he would fit right in with his powers.
Zero isn't gimmick character actually in my kind I like him better than X so people mad at MM not being in gotcha but don't be knocking zero cuz in my mind he is way more BA
Marvel:
Nightcrawler. Because he's cool.
Juggernaut. I think another big, slow, hard hitting character would be cool, even though we got Nemesis already.
Carnage. I think more Spider-Man rep would be good, and I think they could do something cool with a serial killer super villain.
Cable. I know to many X-Men. But Cable was one of my favorites from MvC2 and the X-Men series. I think he's just overall a pretty bad ass dude.
Capcom:
Captain Commando. He's awesome, and I think he would translate over fairly well from MvC2. Unlike Cyclops... he was awful and would play awful in MvC3.
Megaman. Any of them. I think they should give everyone what they want so they'll shut up about it.
Gene. I don't know much about him, but from reading about him, and God Hand, I think he sounds pretty awesome and would be a good addition.
Jon Talbain or someone else from Darkstalkers. I liked Darkstalkers as a kid and I think it needs more rep in UMvC3.
