Angstygaijin of Team Evil Geniuses did an interview with EG|Justin Wong about his thoughts on the recent announcements for Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition v2012 and Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3. Here's a little to get you started.
Angstygaijin: “Switching gears to Marvel vs Capcom 3, I noticed that for starters, in recent tournaments such as Sin City Heat you’ve drifted away from your standby team into more of your anti-Phoenix teams. Is this due to removal of the TAC glitch in Ultimate, or just simply something you decided to do?”
Justin Wong: At Sin City Heat I mainly picked my secondary characters to practice for upcoming tournaments like Season’s Beatings. This wasn’t just for Marvel Vs. Capcom 3, though – I chose to play Raiden in Mortal Kombat and also Cammy in Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition. I know that Ultimate MvC3 is coming out soon and there will be a brand new roster of characters, and I think I’m going to spend a lot of time playing as those new characters. I think Dr. Strange is one of the best characters in the game based on what I’ve seen so far.

(Justin's picks should always be watched.
Sans the time he underestimated Gamerbee and Picked the "Worst in MVC3 team' for kicks, his picks are always on point.)
blah blah arcade this arcade that shut up already, there dead for a reason.. why dont someone just open up a smoothie shop and set up a bunch of xbox's .. thats way better then an arcade
Guy should replace the word 'Japan' to 'big cities'.
He makes it sound like most people in japan walk by an arcade on their daily work route.
Japan may seem very thriving from a non-japanese but the video game department has been declining since late 90s just like the US.
The only arcades 'alive' in Japan are those as he said, in big cities and have big store space to cater to all audiences.
Stupid Dios-X using.....lol j/k
These were great reads, even though I am dying for some UMVC3 info I was actually more interested in the Japanese arcade article. It reminded me just how closed and reliant on independent transportation our society is, at least in the big cities it is. I always figured it played the biggest factor on the fall of Arcades, but reviewing this a bit, I agree that its the defining factor.
JWong "As far as the original cast is concerned, I’d like to play as Storm more often in Ultimate. " }This is all I wanted to hear.
Oh, and there's more:
"It seems like she’s a lot stronger – for example, when I was playing at Comic Con, her Hail Storm had a much longer reach than in the previous version. In vanilla, characters could avoid Hail Storm by jumping out of it, and that didn’t really make sense to me. It is still possible to jump out of Hail Storm in Ultimate, but it’s much more difficult because the area of the attack has been increased. In addition to this, her normals have also improved. These changes made me happy because my main character in Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 was Storm."
LOVING IT. I don't mean what he means by improving her normals. Is it priority, speed, recovery, hit-stunt, damage..? I really would love them to make her more damaging, and her moves have to hit-stunt, and less stunt-deterioration. I also would like for her Lighting Attack to have more priority, and her Lighting Storm to at least one frame of invincibility.
I don't think this is asking much.
@2 She-Hulk overpowered? Not really. I believe Justin only used for her exceptionally high damage and high amount of health. Her mobility is just way too awful for her to be overpowered or top tier for that matter. And I've read that Justin actually bases his team off of matching outfits and I know he primarily used Akuma for his tatsumaki assist.
To see Justin play Dr. Strange would be interesting seeing how Dr. Strange will be a zoning character when none of the characters Justin currently plays as aren't really in the zoning family.
@6 Not entirely true. While of course the bigger arcades like Taito Station are more prevalent, you'd be surprised just how many smaller arcades there are dotted around suburban areas. I live about 1 hour outside of Tokyo, however even in my small, quiet, "no Starbucks" town there's one devoted arcade that has semi-modern games, and a supermarket with a few older arcade games on the top floor.
You are right though in regards to the decline though. While in some areas they still thrive, arcades in general are weakening over here.
I will say though that the article is a bit iffy, and some seems a little too based on personal assumption ration that fact. He attribute things like the 100yen coin to the success of the arcades far more than I think they deserve credit for. The article in parts appears a little patronizing towards it's readers, although that might my just my interpretation.
@12 "ration that" -> "rather than". Don't know how that happened. :/
i am a bit young to know these things of what you speak, arcades is it?
jk, but i think that whole scene never happened where i live, unfortunately, but to be fair, games do not have such an impact over here.
although i would like to have a place to go on a weekend and play some arcades or actual games, it would turn me off for 2 reason, firs the controller, when it comes to fighting, not being used to and "arcade stick" would make me feel bad.
second, money, i don't know how much they cost, what do you get for when you pay, but im guessing lots of people have payed the final game's worth in the arcades before they come out.
i find nice the idea of having a common place to go and play with friend or so lag free, but at the same time i see some negative points in there.
but it does suck for those of you who like that scene, to have to watch it fade away like this.
i feel sorry for your seemingly inevitable lost.
In the interview, Wong mentions he likes Iron Fist because "he's just so asian..." - Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Iron Fist a white man named Daniel Rand?
I'd like to see Justin use Rocket Raccoon, Arthur and Iron Fist in U MvC 3.
