I know the 14th Amendment, but because people in courts can twist the loose or strict interpretation of the law to suit their own purpose makes it a joke. Until someone stands up and fights for the rights of all, the BS that happen to Team Sp00ky will happen to others as well.

You have hit the nail on the head there. The Patriot Act goes above and beyond the Constitution, and even international human rights laws. The government 'legally' has the power to detain anyone or confiscate any possessions without even needing suspicion. They can detain you indefinitely and withhold your right to an attorney. So theoretically they could confiscate your stuff, lock you up, throw away the key and no one would ever see or hear from you again. It sounds extreme, but this is in theory what the Patriot Act allows. Welcome to America, the 'land of the free'

Compared to other countries USA is the land of the free. In some places just to speak against the government you would get your tongue cut out. What happened to spooky sucks, but they obviously had a reason to do it. What they should really do is release it to the press what they found. If spooky's name was big enough I'm sure they would. I seriously doubt they would spend all that money and effort to randomly pick out one person to F**k over. Stop taking USA for granted. If you seriously think this country is that bad try living or visiting some other countries to get some perspective of how free USA really is. People from Turkey come here and leave because they say it's "too free". Germany illegals and immigrants have more rights and grants than citizens. North Korea, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Singapore's laws are so strict. Get caught with weed in southeast asia and see what happens. We got it easy.

Don't follow your argument. Sounds like you're saying:
- We have more freedoms than other countries
- We should shaddap and take it up the ass b/c the Feds could be MUCH WORSE
In your view, we should consider ourselves lucky that the Feds gave us these rights. However, these rights were not conferred but were fought for. What the founders meant was limited gov't, power for the states. Look at the prior Articles of Confederation (which proved impracticable b/c too little power reserved for the Feds)

My family is from Germany. I've lived there for 9 years so I'm not going to argue the fact that people not from the country has more rights than the people there. If you look at the population germany is made up of more Russians, Turkish, Polish, and surrounding areas. Again everyone has there beliefs but I say if you don't like the country you made. You have the freedom to GTFO. People die for this country every day. People strive to live in this country and they appreciate it. Unlike you fools who probably never voted. Don't you understand the Government is a reflection of ourselves? Again... GTFO and go see what its like in another country. USA!
My point is that though we as Americans value freedoms, we have consistently shown that we are willing to give them up in times of crises (FDR, WWII treatment of Japanese & German Americans, commie witch hunts, etc).
I find that very troubling because out we are informed by the press, who are the the gov'ts' useful idiots.
Power can manifest itself in many ways. Just because you are not directly being stomped on by police, does not mean your life is peachy in re your various freedoms. The only thing truly inflexible about power is that it will always seek to maintain itself, regardless of legitimacy.

I understand your POV, having had first hand experience w/ the German gov't.
Most European countries are democratic socialist and simply do not have the almost 300 yrs of history that our constitution has. No European country reveres the right to property as much as it is stated in the US Constitution (not even close) - which reads "Life, Liberty and PROPERTY".
so you are coming in with lowered expectations toward the US. Whereas those who believe there has been an unconstitutional power grab by the Feds for the last 80s see such an instance is just one more example of the crookery (that's not a word) taking place in DC

I'm not bashing OR defending Homeland security or Patriot Act or anything, but here's the truth: things have never been 100% chip chip happy in US, and they've never been the worst in the world either.

I am German and my Father was an immigrant. Theres no law that gives them more rights. In fact he had to be reviewed pretty often to see if he was allowed to stay even to he was very sucessfull, and build up a good life. He never got the German citizenship in 7years, and died in Germany without ever being a citizen. Yes Germany is full of immigrants, but they have less rights then Germans and can be deported. And illegal Aliens have no rights. Here in Germany we have something called Guestworkers from Poland and some other countries, but they can work and thats it, the only right that gives them an advantage over actual German citizens is that they dont need to pay taxes here, only in the country they live in, and they come to do the crappy work that germans wont do. We also have asylum seekers but they get stuffed in crappy containertype flats and arent even allowed to work. And together with that we still have racists everywhere and German friends of mine cant believe how often i just stumble into police checks because they never do.
You should ask that family of yours if the law actually grants Immigrants more rights or if they are just blaming the political and employment problems on them, just like so many germans do.
Interesting, I hope spooky can get more attention on his case and get his gear back.
