LG electronics released news today stating that they have received exclusive rights to release Street Fighter IV on the upcoming HD Androids. You can read a piece of their news release below. There's no details on the actual game as of yet though such as whether or not there will be additional features.
The Street Fighter series, which debuted in 1987, is found on millions of game consoles and in arcades all over the word but has never before been offered on the Android platform. Street Fighter IV will make its Android smartphone debut on LG’s global apps site (www.lgworld.com) in the fourth quarter.
“We are honored to be able to bring one of the most popular fighting games of all time into the Android ecosystem,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “As we prepare our first HD smartphone for launch, it was important for us to be able to offer HD content that would really demonstrate this phone’s benefits. The HD version of Street Fighter certainly fills this objective. We are also confident that LG’s soon-to-be-unveiled HD display technology will give Street Fighter fans a whole new reason to play the game again.”
“We very much look forward to expanding the legacy of Street Fighter to the Android platform through this partnership with LG,” said Yoshinori Ishida, Deputy Head of Consumer Games Business Division and General Manager of Consumer Games Marketing Department at CAPCOM. “We wanted to ensure the Street Fighter concept transitioned seamlessly to Android.”

Will have have to have a LG HD device that isn't even out yet to get this through the LG World site, or will we have to rip the APK to install it on existing devices that are capable of running it?
"or will we have to rip the APK to install it on existing devices that are capable of running it?"
i'm sure we'll be able to rip the apk and install it, but they've likely considered this. my guess is if we rip and install it, we will either have to charge a fee to our credit cards or phone lines, or hack the apk, just like rock band. i have a fully unlocked rock band on my g2 that runs just fine, i'm sure we'll be able to do the same with this if they dont let all phones download it.
This sucks for all the iPhone owners I guess they are just gonna quit updating out SF4 volt and I wanted some more characters
Does anyone care? Considering how dumbed down the controls have to be to work on a mobile device does it really matter? They could just rip the 3D models and make a Flash Game imitating SF4 and all the casuals would play it anyway.
You guys are so f$#)*(! spoiled to say Volt sucks, seriously are you 15? The iPhone fighters are, along with Bleach on the DS, the best portable fighters ever made. They blend a simple "Smash" input-style with awesome SF gameplay.
Comparing it to the console is one of the stupidest things I've ever heard. You guys clearly don't remember the years of portable s#^* we've had to play for decades. Hell, back in the day your console was usually just an interpretation of what you could play back at the arcade, worst graphics, control and all.
Get off your high horse Volt-haters and help us get ALLLLL Android owners some portable fighting options.
For the guy who made post 20 without paying attention to the whole thread, what part of ripping the apk and putting it on any phone didn't you get? See my Rock Band example. It's not on the market, g2's aren't supposed to have it, but I sure as hell do anyway.
Negative on the suggestion of exclusivity. If it's on Android it's on Android.
“We very much look forward to expanding the legacy of Street Fighter to the Android platform ( platform of Android OS ) through this partnership with LG ( the uh folks who ponied up the cash for this to happen.)"
“We are honored to be able to bring one of the most popular fighting games of all time into the Android ecosystem,” ( ecosystem meaning Android OS)
It will certainly have minimum running requirements ( may even be a pack in on the phone...) but that is it.
In the meantime I recommend CPS2HD for Android. With it I rock the Arcade versions of many a Capcom fighter on my Samsung Vibrant.
@Zombie - Damn fine. I've been looking for just such a suggestion.
@Hey - Guilty. Totally forgot the PSP library. And as for Bleach, whether it's your thing or not, the systems pretty pro.
Hey guy is its only EXCLUSIVE FOR LG android? how about xperia play?
@Shaku
Hard to say. But I just want all Android owners to get some fighting game support. Whether that's Volt, a full release or future games.
Come on!
Wooo! Now I can get Volt on my Evo!
