Super Battle Opera 2011 is currently taking place in Japan. Several teams traveled over from the United States and other parts of the world to compete.

*according to fubarduck twitter
Overall this has been a waste of money sadly. Didn't get to see any American teams play, and they literally sat and talked while Tokido and Mago got put out, really felt like a waste overall.
To optimize my money, does anyone know if top 4 is tonight or later tomorrow? I want to know if I can sleep off this disappointment.
Sucks our boys didnt make it, but the matches have been excellent. Everyone is a killer. Tourney format/ how they ran it might suck, but damn skill level is off the charts!
watergod, if its not the official link prob yes, as it is illegal. .
so people are saying hsien chang and banana ken are USA's best bet at SBO, and they got beat by KUWAIT? LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!
@17 the kuwaiti guy is no joke. Daigo himself said before its the best guy he has every faced. The Sakura actually did quite well against Daigo in the match and got an ovation.
the Kuwait team is better than all the US teams lol.
That guy is sick. the Kuwait team also made it out of the first round. It's better give the spot to them than US team for 1 and out.
#20 so daigo says the kuwaiti guy he faced was the best he ever faced, and yet the guy who owned him in a best of three and even perfected him isnt?
i dont get it.
A dick move by SBO of having two teams outside of Japan faceoff just to get in IMO.
#25 "Guy" not "Seth" I didnt mean guy as a person. Obviously you didnt get it
@34 way to stand up for the good of mankind!
@ 25 to reiterate the Kuwaiti player Daigo was referencing to played "GUY"
@37 way to fail reading comprehension. I dont care if you watch a pirated stream, i was pointing out that catalyst already said he cant let ppl POST the link. dumb@ass.
@37 Posted by Catalyst on September 17, 2011 at 12:29 a.m. #15
@Watergod
Links to pirated streams aren't allowed here. A link to the official Nico Nico Douga stream is provided in the story, that's the only thing we can link to.
@40 since you don't care hit me up with the link bro
@Watergod
Please post the link to the stream onto the wall of this Facebook group:
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid...
That way, you won't have to be sending out individual emails :)
@42 I dont know the link, I bought the Nico stream.
Well at least the USA ST team did better last year any word on them this year?
Also so I'm guessing people are rooting for the teams from block A & D.
If its "team hope" I think they lost second round or 3rd.
@48
Good point. This whole hype about Poongko owning Daigo at Evo2K11 reminds me ofthe early days when Vanilla SF4 was just released on Arcades.
Back when Vanilla was just released on Arcades, Momochi's Akuma raped Daigo's Ryu. If you look at the early Arcade Vailla SF4 videos, Daigo looked pretty helpless against Momochi using Akuma.
But in a fairly short amount of time, Momochi gow downloaded and the tables turned completely.
Champ and Ross lost? NO WAY! Champ had no chance in hell to begin with. My prediction was Ross was going to carrying Champ's whining butt if they ever advance.
@Aqua:
Isn't any paid per view is in for the money? You think people will ask people to pay money to watch so they can donate it to charity? Just like asking Capcom to not charge people money for DLC contents. Your logic doesn't make any sense.
@51 I think ol dude thought i said daigo thought the person from kuwait was the best person he fought. What daigo said was that was the best "GUY" he fought as in "Guy" from final fight/hangs out with cody/ bushido flip a fool. Does that make more sense?
@57
That's why I tried asking Watergod to post the link to this Facebook page:
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid...
It's common sense not to openly post you email on a public website when you're asking for something illegal. LOL at the stupidity of some of members here. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
@ Grim When i was watching their name was crossed out around round 2 or 3..
K gotcha was lost for a second. Boo at not being able to watch the stream especially if someone mentioned that they money isn't really worth it.
@ Grimm from seths twitter {"team Hope" from US loses off stream to a Chun after making it to 2nd round :( otsukaresama deshi ta guys!} " ps the word deshi ta is spaced out because it was found with sh.. in the middle lol. funny
@17 actually Kuwait team was probably the best foreigner team in the tourny, france team, 4 of the US teams, china, taiwan, all didnt win a single match, I believe Korea won 1 match, and Kuwait team won 2 matches, got to top 16 and then lost against arguably the strongest team in the tournament, Iyo's ibuki and Daigo's Yun, while this is their 2nd time to enter SBO! seth killian, fubarduck, commentators everyone their giving props to them
Yes the ST Team. I think its worth it. The matches that are shown are extremely high level.
Thanks well at least the a US team advances past the first thanks bro. :D
@73
That's not true at all. Most of the moderators of facebook groups are not paid individuals who have a job to monitor those groups. Posting something like this in a facebook page usually takes mch longer for someone to notice and then remove.
Meh, PPV... pass tbh for and international tourney this is really fail SBO should hang its head in shame.
Guess he means people checking this site you never know.
nobody is posting anything on that facebook page wtf
@85 can you please just send it out one more time by posting it to this facebook page:
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid...
Some people here are lazy and only care if they themselves receive it, but once they receive it, they won't give a f-ck about distributing it to others.
If you post it on that facebook page, then everyone can see it. LOL.
Damn you guys want the site to get in trouble....
honestly i wont even call SBO a major event tourney!
ppv stream for a low quality stream compare on what we offer 'high quality free streaming' and u got to pay to watch their low tier budget event compared to EVO, who's even gonna enjoy watching or even playing a single elimination bracket!?
idk if Planet Zero did really rip-off Hsien and Banana Ken, if not so... SBO should let the last pre-qual teams fight against each other which gonna turn out to be Daigo/Iyo and Neurosis team, but instead they ditch it out to the foreign teams, what would they think and feel if we did this to them on our major events here!? they gave the Kuwait Team and Hsien/Banana an ultimatum negotiation... play or dont play!
anyways... i heard the prize is not even that enough, its just who or what you represent is on the line on this tourney, but for players who have to travel all the way over there to play single elimination and not treated fair is a lil' bit absurd!
lmfao @ JWong, fLoe, and the rest that said 'Hsien and Banana Ken will be the best team performing and best hope for usa' while they got blown up by Kuwait!
next time... bring Ultra Lawyer David over there for negotiations and investigate Planet Zero.
wow not even worth pirating for.. waste of time, im out
#91 1) Skill level has been amazing. 2) Team Kuwait is legit. 3) Quality being low? Come again? Are you watching? Quality has been pretty good for me. 4) low tier budget? This event looks almost like Wrestlemania lol. I think you just assumed everything you just posted. As far as the ultimatum.. it sucked, but it was still in their hands. Win or go home.
I think SBO would be better off if they adopted a WC style type tourney in other words split the 32 teams into blocks and do round robin format and the the top two teams of each block advance all this can be done before the actual SBO event. I mean most of these teams spend roughly a week or two in Japan anyways to prep for it why do all that for 1 match.
Oh well got work in less than 3 hours. :( night people.
@95 They shouldn't have been put in a position to defend their placement in top 32. The clear answer was to have Daigo and Iyo battle Neurosis and Shiro for the last spot. It was complete and total bulls--t what SBO did. Absolutely disgraceful on the part of the tournament organizers.
@102 "[...] with little girls getting beat up. >.>"
Why are they beating up little girls?! Are the little girls even playing? Or are they there solely as stress relieve for the gamers who lost? Whatever the case, those silly Asians and their outlandish customs...!
Im not disagreeing that it was B.S. But the point of going to a tourney is winning it right? Whether they ended up 33rd or 32nd, they lost their first match. Win or go home
Love you Mike Ross but we need Latif in there(although he is not strictly american...) btw all you guys saying how kuwait are crap and hsien change and banana ken should of beat them...They are arabs, i played a lot of them in real life and surprisingly, they all seem like latifs over there.
LOL @ Mods censoring Duowan stream links.
Tougeki SBO 2011 is a part of TOKYO GAME SHOW and DUOWAN (chinese gaming site) is streaming ALL Tokyo Game Show OFFICIALLY, including TOUGEKI. It's a LEGAL AND OFFICAL stream in CHINA.
There is no shaddy links os downloads, just enter Duowan site. You just have to download their plugin called PPTV, the "Chinese version" of Hulu.
freaking ignorant people...
"Fubarduck on Twitter explained some drama that happened at the SSF4 AE tournament. Hsien Chang and Banana Ken had won the PlanetZero qualifiers for an SBO spot, but due to an oversight by the staff running SBO, they had too many teams qualify for the tournament, and had to have a pre-tournament game between them and the players from Kuwait to see who would be allowed to enter. Team USA lost this match."
I feel sorry for Team USA, but I'm happy with the results of team kuwait winning.
Gooooooo team white tower!
what @121 said... but sorry, the 4chan link is not working now, so you'll have to find the PPTV plug-in on your own. The stream by Duowan is here: http://tv.duowan.com/tgs2011/ it's only for Internet explorer, good luck man.
Im not annoyed at the format just the attitude of making it ppv. Big streams like evo are really an advert for the game. Something that helps the scene get bigger. This pay $20 for a stream if you can pay that is thats not even in English is poor. They shoulda let Team spooky re stream it and asked for donations/run adverts to pay for it, it woulda made em more cash and everyone woulda got to watch.
@123 PPTV is not a shaddy program or something you "have to find on your own", it's the freaking Chinese version of Hulu/Youtube. Just go to PPTV site and download their software, install it, and then go to Duowan (you have to use IE since the PPTV plugin is only for IE) and click the Live Stream link (yes, that link you posted), that's it. It's all in Chinese, so if you don't know chinese, use Google Translate lol.
Glad to finally see Micheal with Ken. I dont think ive seen a video of him yet but he's always been the top BP Ken.
And I really wanna see Iyo too. And it was obvious Mike/Champ were gonna loose first round mostly due to their characters, if Latif went however he would have def. made it past round 1.
Gratz to Damdai making it further, he's really good
@125
sf4maniac, you mad bro???
You must be one salty motherf-cker because you wasted 20$ on this crap and your now jealous at some other members who are watching for free.
@133
"They can't even count, they allow 2 american players to fly half way around the world to be told they can't enter, what a bunch of shady, sick motherf*ckers they are"
I agree. It's pretty f-cked up how they didn't say anything to Hsien and BananaKen until those two already flew across the globe.
Before the finals, Seth Killian and James Chen were tweeting to each other about how some heretofore unknown technique for Dee Jay has been discovered in Super Turbo and it's so effective that Dee Jay has rocketed up to top tier.
http://twitter.com/#!/sethkillian/sta...
http://twitter.com/#!/jchensor/status...
I haven't seen the matches but judging by the battle logs for the top 4 it looks like it may be true
@133 faQU
What the f**k are you talking about?! *sigh* You should inform yourself before posting!
"...Planet Zero never had a qualifier spot for SBO at all, and the result is that Hsien and Banana Ken are going to have to play in the last chance qualifier against Iyo and Daigo to earn the last spot left in the tournament."
Planet Zero f**ked up (AGAIN)...not SBO!
From Srk comments, Kuwait team is calling out SBO too, because they were also put into this "qualifying round" the same as the US team, when they, just as the US team got qualifying tickets! And then the next match is Daigo???
duowan stream works like a charm, thank you very much for that, as for the matches, very high level and entertaining, although I'm not a fan of the SBO format either, Daigo really has no luck this year...
Aquapazza is a place holder until Persona comes out next year,lol.
YEAH!!!
Twin Terror wins.
To all you twin haters out there, go suck on cock!!!! LOL.
@154
Yea we know, but that random non-Ex Lung Punch that ended his tournament run is just unusual for him.
I'm curious about the CAPCOM suprise anouncement, anyone have any infor on that?
Wow, worst 20 dollars i ever spent. After the complete inability to not only see any matches of american representatives as well as to idiots blab on and on while team TOPANGA got elimnated (you know INSTEAD OF SHOWING US THAT). I think its safe to say that SBO has been exposed for the fossil that it is. Bring on God's Garden vs EVO kthx I'd appreciate a REAL tournament experience from japan.
@162
Post #154 specifically said that Daigo never won the SBO or Japanese National for any of the three Street Fighter IV games.
We know that he has won SBO and Japanese Nationals for previous games of the SF-trilogy, but he hasn't won a single SBO or Japan National for any of the 3 games of the SF4 series.
I am actually living in Kuwait and a long time veteran of white tower since the 90's. I would like to congratulate our team for their result, but still think it was unfair that team USA had to face-off against our team for a pre-qualifying match despite our mutual guaranteed qualification! I am sure it was a mistake by the organizers and hope both USA and Kuwait level up and learn from this!
better luck next year guys! :)
The hype is note yet over folks. We still have a first to 10 concept match between Daigo and Fuudo, and a Daigo Kumite in wihch he squares off against 50 top pros.
We can only pray that he plays at his best, but I have a bad feeling that he's going to choke on major ass like he has been doing in the past few tournaments.
Guys stop complaining about USA Teams, this is a single elimination format. So anyone could win this since is only one game per team i mean if you lose stay and enjoy the event or go home and if you win then you advance. There is no looser´s Bracket just Winner´s Bracket here this is SBO not EVO!
@147 Yeah it was bs let the conspiracy theories begin.
http://cdn.bleacherreport.net/images_...
Maybe they got to see these guys in action before and did it on purpose so as to eliminate them early out of fear. :o
But seriously though it was bs
@167
What the hell are you talking about? Failed statistic? Really???
You contradict yourself in your post you know. First, you admit that I was correct in saying that Daigo has not won a SBO or Japan National for any of the SF4 games, and then you say that my facts are "failed" WTF?!?!?!
Plus, the main point of post #164 was to clear up a misunderstanding that you had with post #154. None the less and none the more.
@173
Sh-t, I'm sorry. My bad. Not Daigo vs Fuudo. It's a first to 10 match between Daigo vs Poongko.
BlazBlue was by far the most hype part of this entire tournament. That Bang player was really something.
@173
There was a newsfeed about a week ago about the Daigo vs Poongko first to 10:
http://www.eventhubs.com/news/2011/se...
And as for the Daigo vs 50 player kumite, I only saw the newsfeed but it doesn't detail where it's going to be streamed (If it's going to be streamed at all):
http://www.eventhubs.com/news/2011/se...
If anyone could get further intel about the stream for the Daigo vs 50 Kumite, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.
If I remembered correctly, the Daigo vs Poongko match is on the 18th of September, Im not sure who is going to stream it thou.
@180 SuperStraightFighter
Topanga TV:

@178 fireinthehole
and Daigo vs 50 Kumite will be on Taito Live

Anyone heard anything about this? Anyone?
I don't even care about SBO anymore. BIG Single elimination tournaments such as this is a joke and random as f-ck. Please follow the American style double elims format for pete's sake with huge turnouts like this.
Also charging for streams??? really? Spooky has godlike streams and he ain't charging any. f-ck this sh-t.
Please God tell me the BIG announcement wasn't about Tournaments?! I waited all week through TGS to hear NOTHING about AE!
I said to myself... Ok, they are saving NEW info for after SBO. Guess I'm effin pimped again!
I'm a Capcom fanboy, but every time they say "stay tuned for a special announcement" they drop the ball big time.
I'm really sad about this bull $hit!
Blown up, I guess the skill level of SBO is just that much higher.
Now if only they'd incorporate double-elimination and not treat foreigners like trash...
Wow, I know the reason that US lost had to be due to that single elim format.
Anywho, I don't support SBO now more than ever.
that "Oversight" in qualifying teams was ridiculous.
Moreover, I enjoy EVO much more than I do SBO.
Even though Daigo is very versatile in the character selection. I think Yun is not the character he should be using. I don't see that Daigo style any more. They say he's been playing with Akuma, I guess we'll see what happens. But I think Daigo needs to get back into his roots and find a character that really brings out the best in him. Yun isn't that character.
thought Mike Ross and FChamp would've done better. . .
@ #198
I completely agree and have been saying this for a long time myself.
Ryu just fits him like a glove, he needs a character similar to him (or him full stop). Unfortunately, unless the nerfs of everyone else help Ryu to shine in 2012, I don't see Daigo going back to him.
@faQU
"Mixed in with Capcom's Tokyo Game Show 2011 plans that were made public on Capcom-Unity is an interesting bit about an announcement they say could happen around the time the grand finals at this year's Super Battle Opera (Tougeki) tournament take place. It reads:
The Capcom fighting games SSFIV AE and SSFII Turbo are featured among the lineup this year. If I were you, I’d be sure to keep my eyes glued to the screen until the grand champions are decided! ...We just might be making an announcement after the dust has settled..."
Capcom themselves indicated that there was going to be an announcement, not sure if it meant anything AE-related, but if the announcement was the 3 on 3 tourny, I guess that's kind of underwhelming.
^
I'm guessing that there will be a SFxT arcade machine in production or something like that. lol
@202
Are you effin crazy man. As good as I think SFxT will be... It will NOT replace SF!
SFxT is a versus game and does NOT replace SF as the TOP 1vs1 fighting game!
Maybe your interest in competitive fighting games is so easily swayed that every time a new game comes out you automatically drop the last one?!
But speak for yourself you Turd. CvsSNK didn't "Replace" SF2. And SFxT won't "Replace" SF4!
Round out the roster to 40 and call it a day. Then I'll "live with it".
lol at people complaining about SBO's single elimination! Its always been like that, and its good because if your team loses the 2 matches then you deserve to go out...the winner will be the team who didnt lose. Too many of you are used to the bullsh*t American tournament rules with crap like losers brackets etc allowing the losing players with a 2nd chance...which is stupid since they alrady lose so shouldnt even have another chance of winning.
@202: AE is just the wrong note to end on. For $15 we got the twins who, despite obviously having a lot of differences, are still too similar to each other to create a lot of diversity, and Evil Ryu and Oni, who both take the shoto template and add a few moves. In E. Ryu's case, it's basically Akuma again.
Oni was the only one of the four characters whose moves felt imaginative, but then they decided to stick those moves on a shoto, with the standard SRK/Hado/Tatsu.
Basically a lot of people feel like they were charged $15 to play Yun and Yang, and until Ver 2012 makes E. Ryu and Oni tourney-viable, people will kind of have this nagging sensation that AE needs more.
"Now if only they'd incorporate double-elimination and not treat foreigners like trash..."
Explain how they treat foreigners like trash? Weird :S
@ #210
Did you not see the craziness that transpired before the tourny?
They messed up and then decided to screw with two of the foreign teams for no legit reason.
Heard that Dieminion couldn't even go, so basically there was only 2 teams from the U.S. in this tournament if you don't count Hsien-Chang and Banana Ken. If that is the case, it's really not a surprise that Mike Ross/ScrubChamp and 501Strider/Iperu didn't place that high. Single elim tournament that involves flying around the globe, I'm sure there couldn't be any better way to run that kind of tournament...
If this was the other way around, a tourney in the states with the Japanese being exposed in the 1st round, I doubt people would even blink and simply laugh.
Single elimination doesn't mean its a random affairs. It means there's little room for error. Its not random that the final consist of #2 Yun, #1 & #2 Yang, #1 Viper. Its not only about individual skill but also having the right combination of character to cover your ass.
Honda & Dhalsim, really? Tougeki might have let them play twice more and they might not have advanced still.
@56
Mike Ross carrying Filipino Champ's whining butt is a funny comment to me, since Filipino Champ is better than Mike Ross. Champ is better in AE and way better in MvC3. All this hate on Filipino Champ, yet he puts his work in and truly is one of the best Dhalsim players in SSF4 (in my opinion he is the best Dhalsim in the world, no question). Plus, Champ beats Mike Ross in FT5s all day.
Alright we have the stream locations for two more hype events.
Daigo vs 50 Kumite: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/taito-live
Diago vs Poongko first to 10: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/topanga-tv
But does anyone know exactly what times those events are scheduled to occur???? I know that it was mentioned during earlier newsfeeds, but the scheduling changes quite often for tournament events.
I was really looking toward to a cool announcement after the tourney. A 3v3 tourney? Really? Lol. Should've known better.
The whine is strong in this topic. What a sad piece of comments to read. This tourney will have had the strongest opponents in the game playing their strongest game possible. I'm looking forward to these matches if they ever grace Youtube.
Looking at the eventual results, I wouldn't say that's random. It's just the highest level.
Also, people shouldn't compare this to EVO or american tourneys cause this isn't, and the players entering this know that. Accept the difference, and enjoy the result.
So the Daigo vs Poongko first to 10 will take place at 4:00am on 9/18/2011 (tomorrow) here:
http://www.ustream.tv/channel/topanga-tv
Can anyone here please upload footages of the matches onto youtube?
Something people need to consider is that the US players are way out of their element in just about every way when competing at SBO. And yes this affects Japanese players when they come to America, and yes I know they still usually do better than US players do over there. The cards are just wayyyy stacked against the American teams. Imagine flying halfway around the world cramped in a tiny airplane seat and arriving in one of the craziest cities in the world where not many people speak English. You probably can't eat remotely like you're used to, you're going to be sleeping in a radically different environment when your body's clock is already turned upside down. Then you get a little bit of practice on their arcade machines that may or may not have different parts than you've spent thousands of hours playing on (and that's assuming you've even played much on arcade cabs in America) before going to this crazy WWE-ish event where you're playing people who've probably competed in the event before, have been playing daily in Tokyo arcades for years, and had to take a 45 minute subway ride from their homes to get to the tournament. Oh, and these guys are some of the most talented and dedicated players in the world who have more resources than you. And if you lose two rounds, you could be done.
Is it disappointing? Yes. Is the single game format a little ridiculous? Yes, but it also makes it interesting. The US players are not free. EVO proved that. Poongko, Daigo, Tokido, Mago, Neurosis, and others all lost to American players. But SBO is VERY difficult to win for anyone (Daigo hasn't won it in SF4 and legendary 3S players never have won 3S, either), and when you factor in all of the "real world" stuff, not to mention the fact that "US teams lose first round" is such a big deal now, it's a major uphill battle.
@241 then why a country like Kuwait can go and win two rounds and beat a japanese team? by the way 2 of US teams lost to two foreigners team, a Korean team and the Kuwaiti team so half of your teams didn't even lose to japanese, it is a big deal when a country send 4 teams to an event and none of them win a single match.. while other countries send 1 team and they win or at least win a match of a game at least
@242 I mean I agree with you in a sense. It does suck, and America can definitely do a lot better, especially when you consider we were outperformed by Kuwait. No disrespect to them - they're obviously great players - but with the number of people we have playing the game and the resources we have and everything, we haven't proved what our players are capable of at EVO in SF4.
As for the Daigo vs. Poongko stream, what's gonig on? I don't see anything. Was I trolled? lol
@fivec
As a Kuwaiti, I think it is disappointing we had to face the US team being both foreign teams and I think the organizers should had run it better! I actually heard both the Kuwait and US teams were late attending the event. Is there any truth to this? Either way, better luck to both our teams in the next tournament
There were only three US teams in the tournament thanks to the SBO blow-up.
