i really hate dudley rose combos.. from impractical to completely super impractical and pretty much will never happen.. pretty stupid
that said i still hate sf4 for not rewarding combos.. hopefully sfxt will

The point isn't to be practical, the point is to show off. People don't watch NBA dunk contests and go "that's not practical in a real game", the point of it is an exhibition. Same rule applies.

Agreed with you 100% great explanation for it but i i do agree that combos should be rewarded as well
it's pretty silly to argue that these combos should be rewarded with higher damage when they require tool-assistance or almost impossible human ability to even be performed to begin with.
all that would happen if the damage scaling was diminished is that everyone would do jabx5->special->fadc->jabx5->special for like half health against every character. wouldn't really improve anything about the skill/reward relationship in sf4's system.
I don't think a sect of the community knows how to have fun yet :) It's about finding whats possible in the engine and taking it to its maximum potential within the engines constraints. One day that won't be too hard to realize hopefully. That's why we make combos, doesn't mean we're godlike players by any means either lol.
@AquaTeamV3: "The point isn't to be practical, the point is to show off. People don't watch NBA dunk contests and go "that's not practical in a real game", the point of it is an exhibition. Same rule applies."
True. However, in the dunk contests, they usually don't repeat the same move over and over again as many times as possible.
I can't figure out why some people find the repetitive long combos entertaining to watch, let alone why people would want a game to actually feature more of that in combat. Learning the limits of the combo system is valuable, sure, but as far as entertainment, I don't know. Real fights would bore everyone to tears if one guy hit another guy dozens of times in a row with no give and take.
@5 you nailed it with that analogy i guess you can also call drifting impractical but its sure as hell fun to watch. ahhhh.....that pretty toxic smoke i miss my supra anyway i digress.
@12 Can you do what he did? Can you link U1 after 5 jabs? Can you manipulate the engine to keep Stun through a counter Ultra? Can you link St.Fierce into St.Fierce? Are you Error1 or Desk?
Thats why. Why do we watch sports? (Keeping with the analogy) To see the amazing stuff someone else can do. Better example,why do we watch EVO? We cant do what Viscant,Perfect Legend,Tokido and Fuudo did,but we watch them cause they are amazing. Seeing what is possible when you yourself cant do half of what they do is why we are fascinated. I play Oni. I can't link 16 fireballs. I cant combo into his air U1. Hell,I cant combo into U2 without focus,but seeing it done makes me want to get better.
It's a spectator sport. Quit hatin' or quit watchin'.
@12 and for the record,before you give me sh*t about only answering half of your bitching,it's because I agree that this stuff shouldnt be practical. I wouldnt wanna watch EVO if Desk showed up,chun infinites his way through Marvel and SF4AE and walks away richer after 77 days worth of combos.
@#16:
error can't link 16 fireballs with his hands either. it's a tool-assisted video.
@#12:
seeing oni perform 16 fireballs in one combo is entertaining because it defies our previous notions of what was believed to be possible. it's not the same thing as watching 16 identical dunks, because it's not the fireball itself that is the spectacle, it's the application of the fireball as a tool in a greater whole. i would think this all goes without saying, really. but there's always That One Guy.
also, protip: nobody has 16 special moves, pretty sure some amount of repetition is unavoidable.
@16
Cammy's fierce into fierce links are actually quite easy. I can get them a lot more consistently than her old cl.strong into cr.fierce, and cr.fierce into cr.forward links.
As for the new stuff, I find i prefer cr.fierce into st.fierce. Its easier (or at least i'm more consistent with it), and does a bit more damage than cl.fierce into st.fierce.
@5
yeah but theres like a thousand real games every year in the nba. the dunk contest is once a year. which is exactly how often eventhubs should put a training mode combo video on the main page
Seriously, how can you do those Juri combos while holding the punch buttons to restore fireballs?
the stun combos... it's like alpha 3 all over again lol
