Mixed in with Capcom's Tokyo Game Show 2011 plans that were made public on Capcom-Unity is an interesting bit about an announcement they say could happen around the time the grand finals at this year's Super Battle Opera (Tougeki) tournament take place. It reads:
The Capcom fighting games SSFIV AE and SSFII Turbo are featured among the lineup this year. If I were you, I’d be sure to keep my eyes glued to the screen until the grand champions are decided! ...We just might be making an announcement after the dust has settled...
No word is offered on what this announcement will be, but SBO is the biggest fighting game tournament in Japan, so they should have some exciting news for the community. SBO takes place on Sept. 17th, mark your calendars.
Also, in the write up they mention that Kayo Police, Furiida and KSK will be playing SFxT on a live stream via Nico Nico Douga, where they may do character breakdowns, Ono and Harada will be making an appearance on the main stage, and there will be another SSF4 AE 5v5 tournament happening the day before SBO.
Finally, Capcom is running a contest for Street Fighter 4 Volt to see if their readers on Unity can guess which character will be added along side Fei Long when the title is updated again.
What do you think Capcom will announce at Super Battle Opera 2011? Leave a comment below with your thoughts.

Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition 2013, since they know they allready have messued up 2012... jk^^
I think this will just be another SFxT related thing (likely9, but could be some sort of very early announcement for a new game (darkstalkers 4 etc, unlikely) or a new DLC announcement (unlikely) or a new remake / old game that will hit psn/xlive (my bet).
@3 I hope not, i'd rather they just come out with the home console versions, it's just too much money and investment and we would have to wait months on end before anything at the arcades reach home.
I was gonna say New Darkstalkes but it might be a stretch.
Super Battle Opera
You'll NEVER forget the tears.
(They're gonna announce DAN IN SFxT EVEN THO HE'S DEAD...AS LIKE TORO THE CAT OR SOMETHING!
PLEASE?)
agree with #2. Probably SFXT arcade in the works.
I hope they announce a 2v2 player option for SFxT something like MK's. It would be cool going over strategies with a partner and it would make the cross assault thing useful. It seems like something I wouldn't bother doing if I were controlling 2 characters.
@5 ... Because everything is about you and about 'your home'.
You know how many people in Japan would be delighted if that happens? Let's just take that joy away because you want it to be exclusive.
@12
2d sprites ala kof13 would be nice but capcom knows that the sf3 cast is pretty bad so if they continue the storyline after 3 they will prob still have the bulk of the sf4 characters(ie world warriors and the new sf4 characters).
I'd like to see Capcom really shake up SF again now. I mean if SF5 were to take place after SFIII than some major **** has gone down. Ryu is training under Oro, Oro and Akuma have fought to draw(with Oro having his arm behind his back), Gill has been killed, Sean is training under Ken finally and we still don't know WTF is up with Q.
Who wouldn't want to see Ryu come back for the first time with a ton of new moves based on a combination of his old style and Oro's. Sean and Ken further separate themselves from the traditional shoto clone path. Oro getting a return along with Urien, Alex, Q, and all the other cool characters from 3rd Strike as well as returning favorite from past games. An older Sakura? The return of Nash?
I would love to see the SF story you know actually progress and the characters along with it.
@21
\Ur gonna be hard pressed to find anyone how wants that. Ryu has been the same since day one. The biggest addition to him in the last 20 years of the franchise has been the mule kick. Thats enough. Remember the last time capcom tryed to do something totally new? yea sf3, look how that turned out. Capcom can do something new but they need to have those basic things that anchor the fans to the franchise. Look at sfxtekken, new system new character but alot of old tired and true characters are in there(ie all but 2 of the world warriors).
so many errors, idc its 2am i have an excuse lol.
@21 A lot of Possibilities. Really would like to see a real badass villain that gives you a real run for your money.all of these diaper guys and generic seth don't quite cut it for me as a true nemesis.
There is no reason why Ryu can't get new moves. I'm personally sick and tried of watching Ryu have 3 (maybe 4) special moves that never change in every game and then Fireball Super and an Uppercut Supper. It's dumb man. SF is the only series that does this too. Every other fighting game series characters get new moves all the time. SF is the only one where they refuse to give characters new moves. I don't think people are gonna flip a **** in a bad way if Ryu gets new moves.
@25
wat other fighting game franchise has lasted 20 years? Wat other fighting game franchise still has its first game(sf2) played on a tournament level? WHat those "other" games do is meaningless cause these characters they are changing dont have the history that our sf characters have. the world warriors have been give or take the same since super turbo. Capcom would be shooting themselves in the foot to change characters that people have been playing with since they were kids. Small additions are cool but to add 2 or 3 new special moves? nope.
On top of that ryu doesnt need anything new. He has enough moves between his specials and normals to deal with most situations. If ur tired of ryu, well use someone else. Heres a hint, dont use ken either.
They wouldn't have to drastically change Ryu to reflect training with Oro. Maybe just change his throw animations to slam like Oro's.
Besides, training with Oro doesn't mean he'd abandon Goukens teachings. Hell, Gouken using the "Power of Nothingness" may be as Strong or Stronger than Oro!
He briefly trained with Dhalsim as well if I'm not mistaken. He didn't start stretching his limbs everywhere!
Training with the Masters can be a spiritual thing to these fighters IMO. While they grow in strength internally it isn't necessarily reflected in there fighting style.
It is too bad Oro didn't make it into SF4. We've got Gouken/Akuma/Gen/Dhalsim, so he's really the only Majorly Powerful Master missing.
Wow, I'm a Big Time Nerd! Lol.
Chicken Wing you realize that Capcom stopped making SF games for 10 years right? You realize SFII is not played on competitive level right? That game is ass and broken as hell. People play ST which is the 5th version of SFII.
Kyo, Iori, Kazuya, Akira, Sol, Terry, Robert Garcia, Ryo, I mean the list goes on and on to all these characters from all these games that constantly get new moves and techniques. It's fact the SF series is just lazy. Hell look at Ryu in UMVC3 they have him like 5 new special moves for god sakes so why can't they do it in SF?
Ryu doesn't need anything new? I dunno a rush palm, an air fireball, a counter, a command jump, and kick combination, an upwards fireball, or just about any other move they ever gave other characters LIKE Ryu.I don't see people freaking out that Evil Ryu has an Axe Kick? Or That Ryu go a donkey kick in 3S. People were like "Awesome!" not "NO!"
I bet you 99% of the casual SF players would LOVE it if Ryu got some new specials. In fact I often here complaints from casual players that the characters are always the same, there is no difference between the games.
One of the reasons I'm so hype for Tekken X Street Fighter is the Tekken team is finally going to give these characters that have been stuck with the same moveset for 25 years some cool new moves.
SFV:
Ryu:
-QCB+P Upwards Fireballs, strength determines the angle
-HCF+P A slow to start up homing fireball alla Oro.
-SRK+K Donkey Kick
-QCF+K Axe Kick
-QCF+P Fireball
-SRK+P Shoryuken
-QCB+K Hurricane kicks
There we go. 2 brand new moves and ever other unique special he's ever had rolled up into one character. Is that so hard?
I agree with adding more moves to old characters, there is nothing wrong with that and It doesn't mean that a newer version of Ryu or whoever has to abandon their old moves.Variety is the spice of life. Street fighter franchise has been with us forever, but a little change is not bad. Third strike didn't do so well, because they also eliminated the old classic characters people are familiar with, and the casual users missed as well as the advanced combat. not because of adding new stuff.
I'd hope it be an announcement for another Alpha, or Darkstalkers. However, being Japan (and their arcade community) I'd guess an arcade version of SFxT? Being an arcade release means nothing to me personally - but it would to the Japanese arcade-going population.
ALPHA 4! Nahhhhhh I seriously doubt it but it would be really cool if the made a new Alpha or Darkstalkers. I just hope it's not SF5 ALREADY. I mean we just got 4 versions of SF4, we don't need SF5 already. Give us a Spin off like Alpha, or an entirely different series like stalkers. Hell, I would even gladly take an arcade release for SFxT over SF5 or SSF4 AE TUBRO VER. 2013.
@31
Last time i checked super turbo is sf2, so wtf are u talking about?
From ur post i see the problem, u want ryu to have everything. Hes supposed to be a simple/boreing character with basic moves. Thats how he was designed, deal with it. Its like if i asked for zangief to get a new move, a fireball. U would go all stupid trying to tell me that it makes no sense and that zangief doesnt need it.
ANd then u say casuals would want new moves? Casuals couldnt tell the freakin difference and if u left it to them sf5 would have only shotos in it.
If ur bored of ryu use someone else, its just that simple. Dont cry that u want ryu to have akuma/ken/sakuras moves cause hes boreing.
Dammit I wanna be there!!
