@5 True that…
Igniz was SOOOOO overpowered, I mean wtf were they doing giving a final boss an INFINITE FREAKING COMBO!?
@2 i agree seth is not that hard compared to previous bosses. The only thing which would get me is the 3 teleports after a hard knockdown and even then it wernt always.
My cheapest bosses would be M.Bison (dict) on SFA (wernt really his moves or ai rather than the one wrong move and 70% psycho crusher could destroy you). And Gill, my god the amount of stress and rage which was created off one guy would make me want to kill someone
Anyone who can't figure out that the bosses are pattern fighters after two seconds has serious issues. And breaking windows and controllers!?? Over the bosses!!! Omg! Anger management time buddy.
Everyone of them are incredibly easy. The only one I'd say was difficult was SF2 generation M.Bison... He didn't charge anything lol.
"traditional Capcom story?"
... So you mean Its gonna suck?
Notice how this interviewer looks like he actually WANTS to talk to Seth, and isn't staring off into space or looking around while Seth is speaking? Angry Joe should take notes. He can still maintain his Angry gimmick and have a little common courtesy at the same time.
@6
Are you kidding?
#5 is spot on, SNK always always ALWAYS has the most irritating and cheap ass fighting game bosses. Rugal, Igniz, Zero, Goenitz, Orochi, Mukai, the list just goes on and on. Some of these bosses, most notably Igniz with his BS juggles, even abused INFINITES against you! And then a lot of these guys also had supers that covered the whole screen, did a ton of chip damage, and were impossible to interrupt.
Seth's shadow battle sucked hahah he did have a neat Viper.
11:00 Seth's always giving a biased answer. I can't blame him, but I like developers that admit what their games lack, the guys from Epic, Infinity Ward, Team Ninja, Bungie, Netherrealm Studios, etc... do it all the time. Just admit it, Capcom fighters have awful story, awful narrative, and they need improvement. Bzb and MK are at least trying to evolve in that area. You can be funny and have a decent narrative.
AWKWARD HANDSHAKE.
@#14
How about 'story is not a vital part of the fighting game experience in the first place'?
If story was vital and they failed to deliver, it would be one thing.
And no, attaching a visual novel or a 2 hour movie is not the first direction that comes to mind when we talk about 'evolution of fighters'
#17 CLEARLY we all know that it's not vital, no one is arguing that story is paramount for a decent beat'em up.
So stop sounding like a one-dimensional fanboy.
We all love Capcom games, that's why we post at Eventhubs, so maybe you should take a little time to consider why improving the presentation of any game, including narrative, story, and features is actually a good thing. And it's very natural to take cues from different genres: fighting can learn a lot from other genres such as racing, FPS, RPG, MMO, etc...
No one wants a decent narrative at the expense of the gameplay, it's about getting it in addition of the gameplay.
Seth and Gill are cheap, but they have nothing on Igniz, Alpha Rugal, or Magaki from KOF. Not to mention, "Ultimate Rugal" and Shin Akuma in CvS 2. Those two were a couple of cheap jerk stores. I'd rather fight Seth or Gill over either of those two.
@#19
Yes, I am sure Gran Turismo benefits from that rich story mode.
Or Quake/Unreal were revered as FPS games because of that campaign.
How about you think long and hard whether a story mode REALLY adds to the experience for certain genres.
It's cool if they happen to include it, but actively ASKING for it or else you feel shafted?
Messed up priorities.
Capcom fighters are nowhere near my favorite either. I am just buffled by the priorities 'fans' have now.
Leave such things for Side material, like KoF and have a basic arcade mode.
I'm a massive SF fanboy. I've been playing since SF1. I love the story, and wish they would flesh out the details a bit more.
Who the F is Q?
Who the F is Remy?
Who the F was that kid that Balrog took from the lab?
I wouldn't mind waiting for a sequel to have these questions answered, but the sequels never bother to answer ANYTHING!
I had really hoped 4 would sew up all of the gaps created by SF3... But it didn't. Furthermore, it created a bunch of it's own questions that I'm sure will never be answered.
SF is my game. I love how the universe is intertwined with Final Fight and Muscle Bomber. But some of this BS has got to stop!
Capcom. Please answer some of the questions that have been lingering for 13+ years!
Storyline... I care.
The only boss that I could never beat without Guile was ST's akuma.
I say with guile, cause for some odd reason, cpu akuma is completely unable to punish the flash kick, even on whiff or block. even in HDRemix I could only beat him with guile, such an insanely broken boss.
ah Gill... I've only beaten him once and it was due to Elena's healong
That beatch from guilty gear with the guitar ! She had a super that toke all your life even when you blocked ?
@#22 I love Capcom games, and I am not asking for a decent story mode as a priority. Like Seth said, the people working on the gameplay mechanics are not the same ones writing the "story." Like I said, it's not "either or", it's "and." The same crappy narrative will not break a fighting game, but a great story mode with good narrative would help the of growth of the fanbase vertically and horizontally.
GT was revered for its gameplay, but most importantly because its attention to detail offered much, much more than most of its competition (in features and content). & then we got Forza, FM3 has features that clearly BUILD ON TOP OF THE POLISHED GAMEPLAY MECHANICS. & the inspiration comes from various genres.
Unreal/Quake are fun MP games, they never had a decent campaign, and didn't make them any less fun. However, games like GoW, Half-Life, Halo, CoD, etc... offer great MP and great campaign & background narrative (depending on your taste), even though they all at heart have great gameplay mechanics.
If these games offered more compelling extra content (other than the basic modes and great gameplay), they would be more popular, and have a more dedicated fanbase.
my list for top hardest bosses:
1) SF2 Bison (never played him but i could understand how hard he would be since i could never get past stage 2 lol)
2)Shin-Akuma from Alpha series (mainly Alpha 2)
3)Shin Bison from Alpha 3 (dont ask why, just fight him and watch the BS)
4) Gill...no explanation
5)Seth? im going by SF bosses only so i guess he would be the last 1 (not counting EX series) cuz he was easy. maybe they should've made the final boss Poongko with the same mechanics as Arcade Seth...that would be probably impossible.
ohh **** i forgot about ST Akuma. he would def be put in between 2 and 3.
Gill is based on the Parry mechanic. He doesn't conform to patterns like Seth for instance.
If you try to fight him like it's SF2 he's almost impossible to beat on hardest.
However... Once you realize that his moves can be EASILY parried, he's one of the easiest bosses to beat!
@32
Not really.
Crouch one character space away from him and he'll do lighting legs over and over and over and over until you kill him lol.
Sure, sometimes he'll SPD you... But he doesn't do it enough times to kill you (usually lol).
Stay one character away, he'll do arms, arms, legs, you punish! Arms, arms, legs, you punish!
Easy as pie.
@5: I couldn't agree more. Hell, they made a term for their bosses that's known as "SNK Boss Syndrome". I don't hear about a "Capcom Boss Syndrome". SNK is known for having BS and ridiculously hard bosses. It's just a flat-out fact. I'd rather play Gill on expert than play Magaki from KOF XI on normal.
I have much respect for Seth but im really suprised given his knowledge of video games he did'nt mention that bosses were designed to eat your quarters at arcades in the past and have became a staple in fighting game history.
Challange is part of it, they are designed to win but they are also designed to be beaten, usually in a very specific manner. The sdecret was how you beat them.
Im really suprised this guy had to ask such a question. If the bosses weren't challanging, would you feel the reward was worth it?
@32
Right, but take it back all the way to Vanilla SF4, what if it was your first time playing through arcade mode?
Did you already know that matchup strategy the first time you beat the game either at the arcade or on console trying to unlock characters?
bosses can be tough at times... but like others have said, they're almost always pattern fighters.
the hardest boss i've fought, i think was Hazama in the second blazblue. used Hakuren and had to fight a powered up version of this dude on the hardest level, and he kicked my a$$ for well over an hour. wouldn't even pay attention to my GF when came home lol. internally i was raging like crazy lol.
the thing that so frustrating about most of them is that (1) they basically cheat lol (if comparing them to human ability) or they (2) outright cheat (do things that ARE NOT supposed to be possible).
example of basically cheating is seth or ryu (or any other shoto) having totally inhuman reflexes. this can be confirmed in SF4 in trainning. just about EVERY jump attempt while close will result in a dragon punch lol. falling for a frame trap while an ultra in there results in being hit by the ultra like every time. you know this type of "cheating" when the computer reacts TO YOUR BUTTON PRESS, making it seem like you're actually the one pressing the buttons for THEIR moves to come out lol smh.
example of outright cheating can be seen when playing old school SF games, and noting how the computer could WALK FORWARD with charge characters and execute moves that require one to hold BACK for 2 secs before doing the move...
aside from all that, i remember fighting Zankuro in sasmurai showdown 2 or 3... and everyone thought he was hard, bt he was actully very easy once you realize that you just need to jump back while holding back and waiting for him to attack so you can air block it and punish him lol. ahh... good times lol.
It's normal to have powerful bosses in any game and why is Apocalypse shown?
this interview is y we need angry joe , too many wish-washy interviewers...
