Tip sent in by Fawaz and Rafael2487.
soooo yeah i'm definitely goin to guard crush this wednesday...I gotta make livin in nyc work right??? lol
Alternate angle of Poongko Vs Daigo. The salt on Daigo's face after he lost is amazing...he walked off into the sunset never to be seen again.
And Latif looks like a rag doll when the guys was tossing him up in the air.
can't wait to start entering the ontario fight scene. me and my buddies are seriously considering goin to evo next year.
That Rafael2487 is always sending tips, i bet he's real good in street fighter having all those references
sorry many most people are jerks...just the way it is. I hsve tried really hard to get into the community but majority are just salty nerds with attitudes. Just watch videos for yourself
I've been trying my best to get things rolling in Maine so this was a nice thing to see when I got home from slingin' pizzas all day. Going to keep at it. I've fallen in love with this stuff. I know it sounds corny but it's true, I just love the "game".
@9
I don't know where you live, but I'm pretty sure you're full of sh*t. Every single person I have met in the fighting game community, both local, and from all over the US, as well as international players, have all been incredibly awesome, and nice people.
I agree with 10 and 11.. If it weren't for the nice people I've met at the few tournaments I've been able to go to, I wouldn't even bother trying to create a scene where I'm from. Yes there are jerks, but its not fair to yourself or those who actually give a damn to generalize the entire community just because of a small minority of players.
In addition its also worth pointing out that most of the salty people we meet at community functions have social inadequacies that existed well before they learned how to FADC.
@9 hmmm when one person is seeing "everyone" as a jerk, maybe they're overlooking the common denominator.
Just saying. But then again, 11, 12, and 13.. maybe he does just live in an area full of jerkwads :D.
I'd love to get into the tourney scene but where I live up in NH the closest regular events are like 2+ hours away in Boston which SUCKS to drive in but I'll make it there eventually.
I miss living 15 minutes from The Break :D
Totally agree though there's no replacement for going face to face, shoulder to shoulder with your opponent in an arcade-style/ tourney setting.
@9 Well the way I see it, it's up to you to make the difference. Start a scene with a group of friends that your cool with and go from there.
If you lead by example then people will follow that example, thats how great communities are built. Be a leader and not a follower. Those that are jerks will have to wise up if they wish to be a part of it.
@16 See your last sentence really drives home what the arcade experience was like before consoles/online play. These days it's commonplace online for people to be complete jacknods, then show up at tourneys with the same attitude where before if you showed up to the arcade as an jacknod, not only did noone want to play with you, but would also not share knowledge of the game either, therefore we may not have had quantity, but the quality of the local scenes was much higher.
Well.. that was the most depressing thing I've read on here.. thank you number 19.
I'm tired of fighting online opponents who get to hide in that safe and snug veil of internet safety. If these people are jerks than I want to train and become good enough to stop them. Not going to let that kill the buzz. Those people are an embarrassment to themselves and the teams they represent and I for one am not going to let that be what stops me from enjoying the best of what the scene can offer. That just sounds like a bunch of bull to me.
(LETS START A FGC COMMUNITY IN NC(WHILE IM AT COLLEGE) AND ONE IN MD(WHEN IM AT HOME)! GET HYPE!)
cool.makes me wana go out and play against the people here by me in Ontario CA,but im just not too sure if my skill level is up for it.il have too eventually because NONE of my friends play fighting games,only FPSs,and casually MK:(
@19
Excellent job pulling out maybe 5 examples from literally hundreds of tourneys just this year.
In fact your post just makes me think you SHOULD maybe leave your house every once in a while and see what tourney scenes are REALLY about rather than living in your stream-monster speculative world you just shared with the rest of us.
@21 Dont worry about your skill level. You'd be surprised how much you can learn just by standing next to and watching someone play live vs trying to learn from some youtube video no matter how detailed they try to be. You'd also be surprised how much more drive you can get form getting beat by someone standing next to you as opposed to online where you would just find someone else to play or switch off the system.
Although I do wish there were a bigger scene here in Indiana, where I am, I also feel like I'm not quite the type typical for these tournaments. I'm extremely uncompetitive. That doesn't mean that I don't try my best when I play. It just means that I rarely get upset if I lose and will lose time and time again just for the chance to keep playing. I don't seek to win so much as I seek to just make myself better and develop a bond with my opponent :)
I've been in several tournaments and they ARE full of nice people and a real community, and Evo sounds like something that would be beyond awesome to be a part of, but I would feel so terribly out of place going there for the experience alone of fighting, with no designs to win or be the best in the world. The whole aspect of name chanting and ragging on other players and the massive crowd dynamic was never my scene. A good solid fight between equally skilled competitors that ends in camaraderie, though? I'd be all for it :)
Again, I only wish more of this stuff happened around here instead of the major cities and coasts.
@ #22
I live at Ontario, CA and I highly recommend the Monstore local ranbats and casual sessions their. I've only gone twice, but everyone is super nice and they are willing to help you out if you ask nicely. I haven't gone recently because I just recently got hired and have been working Saturdays, but if you ever see me (Solution) then hit me up and we can play some casuals or I can help you break the ice with the vets their ;P
norcal baby!!!!!
