It seems you're forgetting that there are fans of Marvel comic characters that don't play video games and/or didn't play MVC2. Just because MVC2 fans may want Gambit or X other Marvel character doesn't mean their voices carry more than the generic comic fans. With a game like this, Marvel (and Capcom, for that matter), has a means to draw people in to the game by putting in comic-fan favorites. Now that Rocket/Nova/Iron Fist are in the game, there is potentially a wide number of people who will pick up the game just to play their favorite character.
It worked in the Ultimate Alliance games and it will certainly work for this game.
(@42 marvel is listening to their fans, why else would shuma or star fox be in game or UMVC3 even exist?

You've got to be kidding. These are fourth-string characters. I don't have any problem with them personally, but let's not pretend they are big draws. The producers have stated characters were chosen from those who fit on a pre-selected fighting style (e.g., "we need a guy who flies and uses ranged attacks"), explaining why some are obscure—they were clearly not chosen for their fan base.

UMVC3 would be lucky to sell about half as many copies as regular MVC3 did. A third is more likely.
SSFIV:AE isn't likely to be "gone" any more than the other entries in the Street Fighter series, which have maintained a devoted following for many years.
SFxT is a real wild card; if there are good reviews and buzz, it could be a huge hit, but if it is seen by the public as a fighting-game-fans-only release, it could end up as a niche game and not pull from the casual fanbases of either Street Fighter or Tekken. We are all curious to see what will happen.

I like to play characters I know, thats the reason I got mad at the characters announced..I didn't know 80% of them, so indeed towards the guy saying everyone will buy UMVC3 cause their fav. char is in thats def. wrong. No one knew raccoon, and only a handful knew some of the other characters like Nova, Iron fist.
That said im over that, but Marvel def. did not decide to pick the known fighters. Looking forward to it anyways though, im loving the new chars so far + itll be unique.

All characters that can be seen as "unpopular" to the public but are huge draws to comic fans. And that is without looking at the villains they included in those games, which were even more obscure.
And common complaints about MUA2 wasn't the cast but the gameplay. As a fan of both games I'll be the first to say that MUA2 was a big disappointment, but it wasn't because of the cast. In fact, most people who were eagerly awaiting the game (comic fans) got the cast they were looking for.

I have loved comics and capcom for as long as I can remember and I am super pleased with the characters they picked to put in the game I want to use each of the new chracters everyone can't always get exactly what they want but I love trying new characters out and right now nova iron fist and RR are who I really want to play I loved 90's comic characters too but hey MVC2 is still around to play which I frequently play too when i want to use they characters not in MVC3 we should all be happy that capcom is bringing all new fighting elements to the franchise Sakura is my favorite street fighter will she make it in here no can I live with that yes because I will just play another game if I want to use her this game is inns be amazing and Character DLC will probably be an option if this game sells might get that 58
