Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Tron's Drill assist can kill Phoenix before transformation

Paper put up an interesting video showing that Tron Bonne's Drill assist can kill Phoenix before she transforms into Dark Phoenix. There are some specific requirements here, DeadPhoenix9065 believes she needs to be below 20% health or above 10% in health, while the video author states Tron should be around the mid-screen area while performing her assist.

A 720p HD video has been added in after the jump showing the same thing happening.

Pulsr also has a video up showing this in action, and Jill going into a dead body combo after wards. AndyOCR, Duey and LainySky all get an assist on this one as well.

You need to catch her at near death state with this assist. It's not that easy I guess. But it's easier then deal with DP I guess...

Also aren't there another assist to do such a trick? Is it bug or what? O_o

I remember a tourney where a Phoenix with 5 bars was killed and the transformation failed, just like with the Tron video above. The Hyper Bars went from 5 to 0, and she still died instantly.

to bad it's to hard to get a plain tron assist on a pheonix that is spamming balls and teleporting, but still cool to see.

Pulsr, has a nice video showing the glitch up. If I'm not mistaken AndyOCR (or Duey) was actually the first to discover this, and posted it on twitter; Pulsr then made the video.

I think what happens is that there might be 1 frame between death and rebirth in which she needs to take damage for it to work. because Tron's Drill does multiple hits within a few frames. I'll have to do more research though.

@14 and if that was the case, why don't projectile assists like plasma beam work?
or non projectile assists that are multi-hit like berserker barrage(couldn't think of anything faster, fml)?

If the assist his mid-combo does it still do that? It wouldn't be too hard to come up with a good setup combo that does it from full health, and you can skip hits if she is lower.

It's cause Tron gets frame advantage of that multi-hit assit, so she can't transform
