Capcom's Wes Phillips, Yoshinori Ono and Christian Svensson all took turns responding to fans or making notable comments recently. For those of you hoping to see a Street Fighter 5 announcement in the near future, it's probably a good idea not to hold your breath, as Ono said the title it's a ways off.Wes Phillips: We have so much Capcom new-ness dropping tomorrow (Monday). Frank West. Rocket Raccoon. Zombies. Golems with laser beams. We own Halloween.
When Street Fighter V is coming out? Lol — YasserEMM
Ono: Hahaha, it's far-distant future! ;P
We still have a lot of hope to get Street Fighter Alpha 3 remade in HD. — Demploth
Ono: I think so that's is good! But, we have a lot of project... ;(
Poor Ono-san, I bet you're so sick of Street Fighter, *laughs* — Firstaidspray
Ono: Hahaha, I have enjoyed a fulfilling life of making SF series! ;D
What ever happened to taking care of the SSF4 AE PC leaderboard hackers? — Eternal
Svensson: I need to check on this again with Microsoft. In short, anyone who hacked the boards, will have the account banned. Could they buy the game again, and do it again? I suppose... we'll have Microsoft just ban that one too.
I recently made a suggestion about a remake for Street Fighter 1. It should have an updated engine and graphics, like HD Remix. — Karin
Svensson: SF1 was extremely important to Capcom, but unfortunately, it wasn't a great game and the difficulty was absolutely brutal. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

Gimme zombies or give me hardship.....I prefer the first
REALLY? Thats it, Im staying up until those videos are UP!(or until i fall asleep on my computer)
@6
On the Poster of the Day's of Future's Past
Hopefully SF5 gets rid of most of the world warriors and continues the story after SF3.
I swear these people ask the dumbest questions... A SF1 remake, really??? SF5, really??? Is that the best we can do?
Rocket Racoomn? screw him! put secret squirrel in!
Why ask about Cyclops when Ryu has every single one of his moves now?
@12 I dont wanna see not 1 character from any other SF game in the next installment, I'll accept brothers/sisters/cousins/nephews/uncles/na'nas/brother in laws of (enter old SF cast character), but thats it.....we need some freshness.
PS: Either way I only want whats in my opinion one of the best fighting engines ever made Rival Schools to be brought up to speed.
Street Fighter 1 sucks and is hard as balls. I'm sorry but as much as I enjoy the classics I wouldn't want them to waste their time and money on a SF1 remake.
Asking for a Street Fighter 5 ALREADY is dumb and just shows how materialistic some people are.
Street Fighter Alpha 3 or even Alpha 2 remake is probably the only thing I agree with or wouldn't mind seeing eventually. By remake I mean the 3sOE treatment.
Why the eff are people asking Capcom for SF5? They still haven't gotten SF4 right! The AE 2012 patch hasn't even come out yet!
These are the same whiners that got us AE in the first place and effed everything up. Super was perfect. Then arcades starting bitching that they needed an arcade edition of Super since they still had Vanilla, which is fine, adding new characters and balancing, but then people starting bitching for a CONSOLE release of the ARCADE edition! Once they got, all hell broke loose, and now that they know the version of the game that WASN'T MEANT FOR THEM has broken characters, they want a balance patch. -_- Make up your minds people!
But anyways, I stayed up for news like this, so good to see RR and Frank are gonna be Halloween surprises. :)
My boy Frank better be there when I wake up... Happy Halloween, pals.
@Ninjanuity
Super Street Fighter 4 was from perfect. Don't delude yourself and other people by saying it was.
@18 if Rival schools, project justice ever came back I would be The happiest man alive!
#9 Well there are a billion I love Frank West's sausage posts so i'd like to think we're even LMAO.I will be laughing quite hysterically when they reveal Frank and most folks are disappointed by his moveset and combos but at this point he could be megalame and everyone will still love him because there seems to be a lot of followers online. If one person says they love Frank West then another person says the same and so and so forth. Not even knowing where he came from or ever playing Dead Rising.You.can call me stupid I don't give a fack but really what would happen if Frank never made it in? Nervous breakdown anyone.
@Tha_Taskmaster
That wouldnt make sense, considering people would HAVE to know Frank, you think everyone knows about Frank ONLY because of UMVC3? Heck no, he was in TvC randomly so thats why people are cheering his return.
I skimmed through the comments and read SFxT. I will now take this time to again remind everyone reading this on how much I want Lars.
Thank you for your time. Happy Halloween and I hope Frank and Coon are here when I wake up.
Its 3 AM here... Still waiting... :(
I just realized how pathetic I am haha, but RR was my most hyped character ever since I saw how much of a misfit he was. So stoked for his reveal.
As someone who has actually played SF1 in the arcade I can assure you all that it was a miserable, horrible, waste of space that should be forgotten by everyone.
At least I now have something to look forward to in my computer class today.
I'm sure that 99.9% of the people begging for a SF1 remake never played the real deal. Just go and play it on an emulator, if you really want it that badly, and see for yourself. You'll change your mind in less that 5 mins, lol.
PS. Where the f*ck are Frank West and Rocket Raccoon!?
People hating on SF1 obviously don't understand a REMAKE. Meaning, make it easier to do the inputs, update the graphics, and make the rest of the cast playable. I've been asking for this for the longest time, and even David Sirlin is down to do it. I got a lot of support for it on Capcom Unity, too. Before you say it, no, I don't wanna just play SF1 characters and ask them to put SF1 characters in SF4 instead, I wanna actually play an updated version of SF1.
SF1 is a waste of time. Move on old folks... we are already at version 4. Why not make a remake of an crappy old game?
Yeah I played it like 15 years ago or something... and it sucked. The controls were horrible, the graphics horrible, and even the gameplay was boring to death. If you want so badly SF1, just go play the game. I am sure you can download it as a freeware somewhere.
Wow Sven said that SF1 was "Extremely Important" to Capcom.
Unlike the Megaman series I suppose.
^
And you're retarded if you think what they are asking for would be a "remake" in anything but name—meaning it would share essentially zero assets with the actual Street Fighter (I) and would require all the development effort, and associated budgeting, of a brand-new game. Otherwise, dollars to donuts, everyone would hate it.
So here's the question: if they are to make a brand-new game...why should it be that one? Is anyone that fascinated by, say, Geki or Joe? Was the music that big of a deal? What exactly is it that people think is so timeless and significant about SFI that deserves a remake? The truth is that none of the elements really registered with gamers until Street Fighter II. It's cool that some of the characters from the original were reworked and salvaged for use in later sequels and spinoffs, but really, the original Street Fighter didn't earn any more than that.
You may, however, have a chance at a full reboot of the Street Fighter continuity (such as it is) instead of Street Fighter V, and such a game might well be branded merely "Street Fighter."
@47 I'll just leave this here
http://www.capcom-unity.com/ask_capco...
Hell
I'd buy that street fighter 1 for a dollar or 15 if it was remixed
irrenmann
It's the first fighter with the 6 button lay out and
Lee, Geki(who is the character I'd love to see in playable form) and Retsu along with Mike, Joe who haven't been in a game playable EVER except the mugen street fighter 1 game and you could make whole great move sets for all of those characters.
And I'd kill someone if they did a full on reboot. There's no reason to keep Ryu and Ken as the leads which in a reboot they would, it's time for the old generation to go (like they planned with street fighter 3). I want to see the development of Sean and Sakura (as both of their styles are said to be incomplete), I'd like to see where the Lee twins are going in terms of fighting style they are obiviously still growing also.

@EVERYONE ON EVENTHUBS
You guys forget that there's always room for ANOTHER dev team beside Ono's or Ryo's teams to make a street fighter game for Downloadable services. The thing is this is the prefect training ground for a new Dev team and a new concept as a downloadable fighting game made at a budget using proven assets.
@#51
So? It's still a crappy game. SF1 plays nothing like any other SF game and to make a remake would involve making an entirely new game from the ground up and spending resources that could be spent on better things like a new Darkstalkers or something.
For the folks who are hating on a SF1 remake, the point of it is to make a game with the SF1 cast, add the world warriors and ppl who are in the storyline but was never in a game, I had an idea for a prequel to sf1 which is almost the same thing, you guys can check it out here http://www.capcom-unity.com/street_fi...
As for SF5, I think people really want to know what's next, capcom is being very tight lipped about it, I hope after SFXT is released they can work on something and give us a tease.
#29 I didn't say everyone didn't know who he was.If he is cool enough in umvsc3 then I will play with him but if not I just feel he will be a waste of space.I just didn't see what the big deal about him when he showed up in Tvc.I feel that most folks liked him for silly reasons like a zombie riding a shopping cart and he can take pictures.Yes its unique and all and it may be fun but I don't think it was awesome enough for most to be going crazy for him to be in this game.Forget megaman there are other characters from capcom or marvel that they should've used.I'm just not a follower many folks dissed megaman because they heard his creator bailed out so if he doesn't care now all of a sudden most folks that practically grew up playing megaman games now hate him.Sorry I'm not for that.
I think people are just lacking the ability to think outside the box here. Just because SF1 is crappy and I admit it is. It's crappy in a fun way. But thats not why you would want to do a remake.
- You can use SF1 as an excuse to implement a new fighting system.
- It's also an excuse to use Street Fighter 1 characters like Retsu or Lee, a feature you were unable to do.
- Story wise they can use this as a way to close up plot holes.
So it would'nt be a remix per say but a remake where you have a clean slate and nothing to really keep preserved except for it's story and characters.
So there are a number of ways to do it.
Oh my I'm getting goosebumps, I'll need to take my netbook with me, so I can watch when I get a break from class. Can't miss something like this, I couldn't sleep thinking about how they will play, it's down right maddening. In the words of Spongebob "IM READY IM READY IM READY"
People love Frank because he is a kick ass photo journalist.
@Ex_Ein that would work fairly well considering the fact that SF2 and SF3 each took place around the same time as the game was actually released (1991-1994 for SF2 through till Super Turbo and SF2 takes place in 1992. SF3 is 1997-1999 for SF3 through till Third Strike with SF3 taking place in the year 1999)
If they returned to doing an SF game based on the actual date (which would make sense since they also have now had the series go Present (SF2) Past (Alpha) Present (SF3) Past (SF4)) than Ryu/Ken would be like in their late 40s-early 50s.
Each SF has had 2 sort of rival characters that could have been replacements for Ken/Ryu if they weren't in the game. Alpha had the Cody/Guy friendship/rivalry. SF3 had Yun/Yang's (and to a lesser extent Makoto/Ibuki. but Yun/Yangs was alot more pronounced)
SF4 has Gouken/Akuma but for the most part SF4 was put together more as a "best of" fighter with the lowest percentage of new characters vs returning veterans with barely 25% of the SSF4AE cast being new characters.
It'd be cool them to sort of create another Rivalry based main characters. I think that is why Alex didn't work very well in SF3 as the main character. It is a fighting game 1v1, you need TWO main characters.
Hey Cap show us these trailer or ill slap the taste out your mouth. B*tch!
For those who are asking for SF5, that ain't gonna happen yet lol. Here are the reasons why: Capcom is going to release Street Fighter X Tekken and UMVC3 and its likely that the communtiy will be loyal to those games for at least a year or so. Also, remember this: Namco is making Tekken X Street Fighter. Another 1 is that SF4 community and the tournaments are still going strong. Each fighting game's longevity will depend on how the community reacts to it.
Also, as for SF1 remake, that's not going to happen at all because why would Capcom invest their time and effort in remaking a game that was released 24 years ago. They would have to improve the game in almost every single bit and this includes the game engine, controls, playable characters, graphics etc. I know this because I played SF1. I would like to see SF1 remake but lets face it, how many people would be interested in buying that game? Not many imo. But since SF is gonna turn 25 next year, instead of remaking the game, Capcom might do something for SF1.
Here's what I was thinking SF5 story wise.
- It takes 20ish years in the future.
- Gouken died peacefully of old age.
- Akuma lived on as Oni.
- Ken's son got into fighting.
- Ryu has a Gouken beard, overcame the Satsui no Hado, and trained Ken's son.
- Urien killed Gill
- Bison learned of Gill and Urien's existence and sought out to aquire their Godhood.
Just a few things for a few major characters. I'm sure if I brainstormed enough, I could come up with more.
I saw a gameplay of SF1 on a LevelUp stream a couple months back. If they do remake it, it will be nothing similar to that game. SF1 looked completely broken, terrible controls.
And for those who asked for SF5, we're clearly born after 1990, where they don't know how long it took for another fighting game, not even the same series, to hit the arcades.
#56 I've read some of your ideas and they are great. But from the way I see it, its unlikely Capcom is going to make it as a game. However, they could make it as an anime film with the right set of characters though.
Show the trailers nooooooow! I wanna see the man and raccoon that covered wars, ya know.
COOLl its Rockety Pumpkin, the space pumpkin that uses BIG GUNS!
YEAAAAA!!!
MY FAVE CHARACTER!!!
I like that Sven doesn't beat around the bush when acknowledging that SF1 wasn't a good game. If they were to ever remake it, it would be completely different.
If they were to ever remake it (highly unlikely at this point), I'd be cool with it having SF2 mechanics or something equivalent to that. That way, it would maintain that retro feel without being awful.
awww snap :P I totally mis-read the title of this article, when it said Street Fighter 5 in 'far distant future' I thought they where talking about the Story of SF 5 being set on the FAR DISTANT FUTURE!! If they where already working on sooo many projects already I'd definitley suggest that they do a Street Fighter OMEGA where Ryu is closer to Gouken's age, Ken's son is grown up & now a S'Fighter, Sakura 'n Sean are older and have come way closer to mastering Shotokan Arts, along with a new group of World Warriors. . .
THIS WAIT IS KILLING ME I'VE BEEN REFRESHING EVERY FIVE MINUTES FOR THE LAST 2 HOURS. I HAVE 2 PAPERS AND ONE MUSIC PROJECT DUE TODAY AND NONE OF THAT WILL GET DONE UNTIL I SEE ROCKET RACCOON.
Anyone else anticipating Frank's theme? I'm so curious to hear what it sounds like. Same with Rocket. I hope their revealed within the next few hours though. I need something to help me keep my mind off of a long day of work ahead of me.
Niitsuma DESPERATELY wanted those Darkstalkers characters in MvC3 and 1% of people use them well.
THEN in Ultimate, no air-dash blocking SEVERELY changes/limits 2/3 of that group.
WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON THERE?
Lei Lei was a mainly great assist (Thanks to that Hyper armor)
And Morrigan's damage output was laughable
@4 Unless you go to GameTrailers because all those brats did after Phoenix Wright's trailer was unveiled was b1tch that he wasn't Mega Man instead.
So after Street Fighter X Tekken it will be Darkstalkers 3
I can wait for SF5. I'd like to see another 10 or more (11 more will be a nice even 50) characters added to SF4. We can have most of the characters from the series together in one great game before moving on to a fresh start in SF5 on a next generation console.
Ono must troll the world with DarkStalkers 4 before SF5.
A SF game without Ruy and Ken would be very strange, and I'm saying this although I don't really play them in SSF4. It looks like they have to live forever as "materialized ghosts", to keep the SF-series close to it's roots ;-)
Actually all SF5 has to do, is to improve the graphics, netcode, cooperative competition (simultaneous 2vs2 / 4vs4), lobbies and add some new characters, this would be enough for me :D
#24 Super was perfect. At least you didn't have any overpowered characters in that version. Overused, but not overpowered.
