The last guide contest for Marvel vs. Capcom 3 here on the EventHubs forums has been won by Stickman. He wins this month's $50 prize for his Captain America guide. What Assists should I use with Captain America?
I recommend a zoning strategy for Captain America. Your strategy will revolve around throwing shield slashes for minor block damage, but more importantly to hit someone when they are jumping to go into a combo. His basic air shield slashes work well against a lot of players, but it is simply not enough to handle teleport characters or very fast ground rush down characters. To fix this you can choose a teammate with assists that help lock down and control the ground space. Also, you can opt for an assist that backs them off of you.
Projectile assists like Storm, Ironman, or Hulk help keep players from advancing on the ground. This allows you to focus most of your shield slashes toward the air to cut off their attack routes. This also has the advantage of forcing more dangerous situations when you force them to jump. Do not mistake this for a complete lockdown like the MvC2 days. This is only to annoy players while doing chip or possibly fish for a free combo.
Invincible or "get off me" assists like Haggar lariat, Tron fire, and Hulk gamma charge are nice to deal with teleporters. These will give you some breathing room to escape a temporary defensive position and continue zoning. Also, with Hyper Charging Stars and Hyper Stars and Stripes, you can respond well to players attempting to punish your assists.
@1 Definitely gonna be more Cap players with all those buffs in Ultimate. I should make a character guide, just don't know who to do it of.
FIRST! make way for the wave of caps
