Capcom making plans for Street Fighter's 25th anniversary

Street Fighter and Mega Man's 25th anniversary will be happening next year, and Capcom is in the planning stages for both things. Christian Svensson also talked a bit about UMvC3's character selection and nerfs, licensing SF stuff for merchandise and if Capcom Japan see what's posted on the Unity Boards.

Here's a run down.

2012 marks a milestone -- the 25th anniversary of Mega Man. Any plans? — Jimb0

Svensson: 25th for Mega Man and 25th for Street Fighter next year. Both will have "things" to commemorate the occasion. Exactly what is is in planning stages but the are solid ideas already being batted around I hope you guys will like. But please bear in mind, they won't happen until some time in our next fiscal year begins mostly (so still a good ways away).

Was the Invisible Woman on the Marvel block list for UMvC3? — Buffy

Svensson: I don't believe so but as others have posted, Super-Skrull sort of takes care of the Fantastic Four even if not every power is represented. She wasn't requested by the team or Marvel. Personally, on her own I'd find her a little powers a bit underwhelming if she were in (but that's just me).

Will you consider removing some of the character nerfs to UMvC3? Some characters there aren't viable anymore. — Ray

Svensson: Ray, any [pre] launch balance discussions are extremely pre-mature.

I am starting a small t-shirt company, with my own original designs. In the future, I would love to do Street Fighter or Mega Man related designs, is that feasible? — Galactuseatworld

Svensson: If it's a commercial venture, and it makes use of our IP, you would unfortunately need to have an official license from us.

How is the information on the Unity Boards used? Is it translated and showed to Japanese developers or do you just have meetings with them? — Dan

Svensson: Both.

inb4 Someone whines for more female characters. If you want a character simply because the character is of a specific gender, that's sexist. Same way wanting Black Panther in UMvC3 because he's black is racist.

Seriously hope to see a Mega Man Anniversary game done justice the way Sega did for Sonic Generations.

Sven OBVIOUSLY only knows Jen's powers by her name only.
She is more than JUST invisible.
She can cut off people's air.
Attack with clear shards of air.
Levitate herself or others.
etc.

Here's hoping for a special 25th Anniversary promotion for SF and MM.

Like #8 said, they should do something special for the Blue Bomber so he ends on a high note...since they've dropped the ball for him, he should get a nice retrospective or something so he can go out with bittersweet memories and a soft final nail in the coffin...

Until they think up something great for him and he busts out like it's f'ing Thriller and totally comes back with a vengeance to reap our hearts as well as our wallets.

For 25th anniversary, they should sponsor a huge event, similar to what Valve did with the million dollar DotA2 tournament. Something to really put the fighting game scene on the map and make it as big as DotA games and StarCraft.

Now, I like megaman and street fighter both very much and think that they both deserve a proper anniversary gift. Like, I think that megaman DLC for mvc3 would be cool, or some kind of megaman-street fighter crossover. Street figher-wise, I'd like to see a good anniversary collection. Not like that other one that only had 2 games on it. I'd like to see not only the sfII and sfIII series, but give SF EX and Alpha some more love.

For SF, I would love to see Super Street Fighter 4 Turbo with oro, alex, elena, karin, shadow charlie, rolento added, that would be sweet. For MM, I really wish they were just distracting us but were really making a new megaman game all along.

That leads to a question I should ask, they said their anniversary plans will only come out after their fiscal year begins...when is that? does that mean they could be producing something right now?

I think Megaman missed the boat on MvC3 and would probably do him no justice as he'll just be another low-tier character with mediocre moves. Put him in a Megaman game where he'll shine.

Oh wow she can do stuff other characters can already do? SO INTERESTING!!!
The only reason she would exist is for her invisibility, otherwise she'd play like every other "shoot stuff and levitate" character. And the invisibility is extremely gimmicky (and exists in game with x-23 already).
Phoenix Wright just as a concept is more interesting than the Invisible Woman.

Maybe, for Megaman's anniversary, they'll announce that he'll be in the next Super Smash Brothers. I remember there was some serious talk about that in the past, and I've been wondering if keeping him out of UMvC3 was because of wanting to keep him 'hidden' for that. They announced the game for the WiiU awhile ago.

For Street Fighter... I can't even imagine what they would do outside of AE2012 and SFxT, since those are such big projects... but maybe they'll finally announce plans for SF5? Or Alpha 3: Online Edition :P

BTW - I do agree with the sentiment that her powers are underrated and I have seen "creative" writers do tons of fun stuff with her abilities in the past.

And I am tired of this whole "Super Skrull counts as the FF4" argument. If anything, Super Skrull just gives a small taste of what the FF4 can do and certainly doesn't give one the feel of how someone like Mr. Fantastic, Thing, Invisible Girl and Human Torch would play like if they had their own character. The Fantastic Four are the first family of Marvel and one of their oldest and most popular teams, to not have them in the game is an insult and a shame. It's like leaving Spider-man or Daredevil out of the game... wait... nevermind.

Ideally, I would love uncanceling of Megaman Legends 3 and release of Megaman 10 or X9 (yeah, pretty unlikely). But i would cry with happiness.

For SF, I really like pdcsky's idea of a CG SF movie. Tekken did it, right? But featuring all the characters would be difficult...
