Getting a little out of the Capcom realm here, Mortal Kombat series creator, Ed Boon, discussed a crossover possibility with Street Fighter in a recent piece on G4TV. He mentions that they've had many conversations along these lines and that it's something they've dreamt about, but with the SF series being a Teen rated game and Mortal Kombat being primarily a Mature rating game, they'd have some obstacles to overcome.G4TV: Right. Crossovers seem like all the rage right now. Would you ever think about doing a full crossover with another fighting series?
Ed Boon: We absolutely have thought about it. One of the obstacles is that we’re an M-rated game and all of the other ones, for the most part, are T-rated games. So it’s the same challenge [we've] had with pairing up with the DC characters. It’s harder to match up with which style are you going to go with. But we’ve all dreamt with crossing over with Street Fighter or Tekken. Killer Instinct was also one that was coming up since they were an M-rated game as well. But I’ll tell you that we’ve had many, many conversations along those lines.
G4TV: You mentioned Street Fighter before. Was Mortal Kombat always intended to be a more mature Street Fighter?
Ed Boon: No, it hasn’t been trying to be a Street Fighter as much as we just wanted it to be an alternative fighting game. From the very beginning, I always wanted Mortal Kombat to be a game in which more people would be able to play it. I would witness some people having trouble doing some of the controls with Street Fighter and I said “Okay, let’s get more people to enjoy this kind of a game.”
Good. We don't need a retarded blood bath like MK crossing over with Street Fighter anyway.
Just take out the ridiculous blood and gore, tone down the brutality of the characters a bit, and you'd be good. Something similar's already been done with MK vs. DC, I don't see why it's such a big obstacle now.
@4
MKvsDC was still pretty brutal. I don't think it would be true to the MK series if they took all of it out. Thats the things, MK is MK because of how brutal and bloody it is, while SF isn't. I doubt the creators of SF would want to see Chun-li getting her arms broken or ryu getting beaten to a bloody pulp.
# when you say "WE" speak for your damn self, you aren't alone expressing your opinions, so don't try to make it out like its abosolute truth, which's just your opinion...i personally would like to see it happen, i understand that MK is M rated game and i understand that fatalities wouldn't work well with Street Fighter crossed, but at this point everything is possible and probably what you'd have thought earlier as nonsense could end up very exciting in the end of the day...looks at how this GEM system is cold accepted and make conclusions...
@5
I actually would agree with Capcom then. I guess the crossover can never happen.
Blegh, no. Don't let that one trick pony of a fighter even touch Street Fighter.
Ohhh, Boobs, Gore, and baby controls, this are good game! Bleh.
i wouldnt rule it out as it never happening, the true obstacles i see here is fighting styles. everyone in the street fighter universe is really scrutinized as in mortal kombat they dont really work with balance issues as much as street fighter. Its a game that would really have to be 50/50 and it would be very unique...as long as they dont add gems im cool lol
(@2 you mad?
Yeah, the article also states doing a PC version isn't a priority/isn't super profitable, so chew on that when you ask for XYZ to come to PC.
@4 MKvsDC was a huge failure for many reasons, so suffice to say, they aren't chomping at the bit to do it again.
Also, I don't think it'd be too much of a problem, character-wise, with the exception of Ryu and Chun. Alot of the evil SF chars have either killed or are sadistic - ingredients of fatalities right there(Vega, Bison, Balrog, Sagat, Akuma, Shin Akuma, Oni, Evil Ryu, Urien, Rolento, maybe the dolls if they're being controlled, Mike(SFI), Gen, Seth, Shadow Lady, maybe Sodom, maybe Twelve, maybe Juri)
It would have to be MVC3 esque if they were to make it work and have MK characters only do fatalities I don't want another teen rated game that has Mortal Kombat on the cover, Teen and MK are oxymorons
@15, Not really.
Also, even if the character IS capable of killing, doesn't mean them showing blood and gory sh*t should be shown on screen. So Vega has blood shed. Okay? Doesn't mean you see intestines and sh*t falling out when she claws people up.
Interesting, but while the cross-over is a dream, it would be hard.
Mortal Kombat X Killer Instinct? Good idea except Microsoft screwed Rare over to make Sports titles for Kinect. Plus the last time weve seen Killer Instinct since the N64.
The best possible way SF could cross over with MK in my opinion would be Pocket Fighter vs. Puzzle Kombat
Just imagine SF with a block button. Now try to resist the urge to burn everything.
MK vs SF and SF vs MK
Namco and Capcom doing it right now
Nethrealms and Capcom can do it!
I would like to see more crossovers with other companies other than capcom. Besides MK vs DC there are no other crossovers (outside fighters dont count like darth vader in Soul Calibur or female master chief in DOA)
Crossovers are cool to me
The thought of quan chi ripping off chun li leg and beats her with it.....
Speaking on crossovers CVS3 or SVC2 (drawn in kof xiii sprites) please.
No, please, no! I don't like MK at all! Capcom should rather concentrate on making an amazing new Street Fighter!
Aren't there already enough Crossovers? Don't overdo it Capcom!
The only interesting crossovers would probably be Marvel vs DC and Mortal Kombat vs KillerInstinct (#6 Dude, what a great idea!)!
MK has always been a one trick gimmick. The twelve year old boys love the fatalities.
@27
Thank you. This is one of the few Vs. games I never want to happen. I don't want to see Street Fighter vs. Ninja recolors and women in hardly any clothes.
Oh man, a Killer Instinkt MK crossover would be too sick.
I would love to see that.
Mk and Sf wouldnt be a good fit thou. Not only because of the brutality. MK is more serious and dark. You couldn't get both communitys together exept if its a bright and cheery bloodbath, and that would just be bizarre. There would be way to many compromises to get those to together, and that wouldnt feel right on either end.
I've got a feeling this game will happen one day :)
As much as NEW Capcom sux especially Snow. I dont want MK's makers touching ANY of the crossovers. Their gameplay is too stiff
SF is already a pervy M game, what with all the nut hits and loaf hits, and school girl outfits. And really, a catsuit? And don't get me started on Gief satisfying his butt fetish with those SPDs.
No interest in this crossover. The proof that MK is just a gimmick game and not a pure fighting game is that it is the gore and mature crap that makes it what it is, not great fighting mechanics or interest character design... seriously how many ninjas that look alike are in the game? Not to mention all the cyborgs. Such boring designs.
Now give me Rocky Raccoon.
If ANYTHING is going to crossover Mortal Kombat, then that anything should get as gory as it gets...
Mortal Kombat without gore just loses all of its identity... I mean there are more violent GRABS in Soul Calibur than some "Fatalities" on MK vs DC... that was pathetic.
If capcom does not want to see Ryu getting his head chopped of, then I prefer MK vs SF never happens.
That said, if well done a MK vs SF game could be amazing.
I would love to see another Killer Instinct game, but I do not want neither realms touching it. They move way to stiff.
Killer Instinct needs to come back. That would be the best.
im cool with the crossover as long as Capcom is doing it. Capcom's already got the particle effects down they just have to probably make it red instead of black(like the ink effects of ssf4)
For tose asking for a Killer Instinct game. You do realize that game is owned by Rare, as in the old company that made Killer Instict, Donkey Kong Country, and Classic Goldeneye 007.
Unfortunatly they are also they guys that made Viva Pinata and Microsoft Avatars ect.
If it's not known news they are ALSO owned by Microsoft so you would only see this on a Microsoft console. Even still Rare has stated many times they are not focused on making a KI3 or remake and this is not those "capcom-like" bluffs and they come out with it, Rare has become stubborn. If we do see a new KI it probably won't be made by Rare themselves. Just saying.
Am i the only one that thinks since the original MK's, every MK game has been garbage up until now? MK vs anything would be crap in my opinion. Watching it isn't fun at all as well. They might as well just make a movie of all MK people just doing fatalities on each other and be done with it. Now that would be awesome.
mortal kombat vs killer instinct? it'd be icky what what with killer instincts controls being so much more complex huh?
if ease of gameplay were an issue i dunno it'd be years before crossovers take place/ but it's be cool to see sf take on all challengers mortal kombat vs doa seems appropriate as well
but if capcom were to work on a couple marvel licenses first one-on-one all mutants, one with regular supes 2v2 with random assist like mvc, and maybe make their own crossover with sf style button layout, that'd be a start. Constantly innovation and tweaking things all the way
@43: I second this motion, if only to see Felicia get the Sub-Zero treatment.
Wow, look at all you poor salty no-lifes arguing yet again over a crossover that doesn't ever exist. This brings back joyful memories of the elitist fighting game crowd's incessant nagging when Ono showed interest in Nintendo vs. Capcom. The whiners have gone from "Our serious Capcom fighting games are much too mature for those kiddy-Nintendo characters" to "Our serious Capcom fighting games are much too good for those blood bath M.K. characters." You jerks will do anything in your lifeless power to stop the Vs. Capcom series from expanding.
I equally love both games, but they won't work. MK isnt good without it's violence. (MK vs DC) and SF looks weird with violence. There's only 3 maybe 4 SF characters that are worthy of MK criteria, but that ain't enough. Oh and SF should not have their supers turn into stupid ass fatalities and MK should not have their fatalities turn into bloodless dumb supers. The only fighting SF and MK should do is sales
MK vs DS would be awesome. i missed out on darkstalkers and i think a bunch of mythical monsters and such would work
(#55 speaks the truth, don't let haters like #59 get ya down, mane)
I can just see it now , throwing Ryu's & Akuma's bum a**'s in a dumpster , igniting Cammy's pu**y on fire & burning her from the inside out , stomping Guile in the ball sack until his body goes numb of the pain infliction & feeding Bison his own genitalia.
All excellent scenarios.
I'd be all for it. SF is easily my favorite fighter, with MK ranking a good deal behind it, but I still like MK nonetheless. The only way for it to work would be for each company to make their own version, just like ever crossover has been with different companies. I'm sure Capcom could make a gem of a game with their influence, and Netherrealm could make their own gore-fest geared towards the MK side. It would give fans of either a chance to buy the type of game that adheres to their tastes. I'd buy both. Just like with SF x Tekken... I will definitely buy that one. Tekken x SF... not so much. To each, their own.
And to those who are ultra against it... don't buy it. Between SF4, MvC3, and SF x Tekken (not to mention a lot of hints towards a potential Darkstalkers game), you have plenty of options to hold you over, and the scene is still thriving.
SFvMK or MKvSF will NEVER work, it's a case of oil and water here, one of the teams will have to compromise and they shouldn't do that for a crossover, If MK decides to reinvent it's self with a new game with less gore, T-rated level, only then a SF crossover can happen.
What MK can try to do now is buy the rights to use/own Eternal Champions, most ppl don't know about that game but it has fatalities likewise the KI characters, if Rare doesn't want to use them just buy them...from them.
@2
Kids say the darnedest things. It's not about sf crossing over w/MK , its about MK crossing over with sf. Theres a difference.
@10
Well Capcom is already a bitch , so NeteRealm can be the pimp.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NIgfiS...
All MK does is hide behind its crappy broken gameplay and tacky gore. MK has been rubbish for years. If they just let Capcom get hold of the MK characters and forget about the gore we could have a great MK vs SF crossover game.
Just make a simialar deal that Capcom and Namco made.. both companies makes there own crossover game in there own way.. then its win win for both companies
@66 "It's not about sf crossing over w/MK , its about MK crossing over with sf. Theres a difference."
Thats the same damn thing. I'm not too fond of Mk, like 67 said, it is a pretty bland fighter that gained popularity through Blood, gore, and controversy. It is an okay game, but it wouldn't even work out. Ryu and Ken doesn't kill their enemies. Chun-li is a cop that supposed to sub-due evil people. Sakura is a school girl, why would she do such horrible things? It just wouldn't look right on either side, no matter who makes the game.
@73
You get all my respect for just remembering Bloody Roar. 1 of my fav fighting games still.
As much as I would like to see Ryu vs Sub-Zero. It's the end result which bothers me. If you want MKvsSF so bad theres always the user friendly Mugen programs.
TL;DR comment section, tbu the first ones covered basicly everything.
MK without its blood and gore and over the top caracteristics ain't MK, lookg at MK vs DC, no fatality in that game is a fatality...
And, even tough i personaly have noo issues with it, i take it that lots of fans would not apreciate, as well as producers and co, that Akuma (there i said it! no ryu for u) and Co would get spine ripped, head choped of and sawed in half, or them doing a super hadouken and pulverizing the **** out of fellow SF characters.
it doesen't fit, i could only guess Tekken going for it, but even then... i am not a big fan of MK, i was a non fan, but MK9 got me back up, and i would wish them the best of luck in the future, and some crossover love, they have it rough in that department.
Finish Him! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rcqiW0...
Ed Boon, are you saying that you guys had with pairing DC characters? That's what's up. Oh, Ed, if you're reading this, make Mortal Kombat vs. BlazBlue. I want to see the MK characters take on the BB characters in this challenging bloodbath. I know that the Mortal Kombat team made Killer Instinct.
Actually "Super Street Fighter 2" for SEGA MEGADRIVE had partially blood, it was removed on all other consoles:
Fei Bleeding (SEGA):

Fei Blood removed (SNES):

Zangief beaten up (SEGA):

Guile beaten up (SNES):

I agree that Street Fighter doesn't need blood, because it has much more humor instead, alone looking at Blankas face expressions while he gets beaten up, is a comedy show.
Wathing MK Fatalities/Specials gets boring/annoying after a while.
JUST REVEAL ROCKET RACCOON ALREADY! AND MAKE A MARVEL VS DC CROSSOVER! I DON'T CARE THAT ITS IMPOSSIBLE TO MAKE THEM WORK TOGETHER BECAUSE OF LICENSING, AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
