They got a pretty interesting interview from Niitsuma-san about some of the challenges in developing and the characters for the game.JDL: I read that you really liked Rival Schools/Project Justice and that you really wanted characters from that franchise in Marvel vs. Capcom 3. Niitsuma-san: I really wish we could’ve gotten more characters from the Darkstalkers series into Marvel/Ultimate Marvel, but I suppose there’s enough characters from Darkstalkers already in Ultimate Marvel, huh?
JDL: This next question is more of a personal question, one I’ve been wanting to ask since the very first day I started covering Marvel vs. Capcom 3: where’s Juggernaut?
Niitsuma-san: (laughs) Actually, we wanted Juggernaut in the games, too, but he wasn’t at the top of Marvel’s priority list, unfortunately. I really like Juggernaut. As we mentioned before, people had asked for more power based characters (which he is) and he’s popular in Japan too, so I think he would’ve been a great addition to Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

I don't believe any of this. Not since "Marvel gave Capcom use of all characters (ALL) for storyline purposes but not all can be in the game." They said that back when MVC3 was in development. Basically it translated to, "Marvel said all their characters can be in the game, but not actually IN the game!" Such was the story of one Ghost Rider. No way in hell he could make the game they said. Same went for Nemesis. UMVC3 is announced and who are some of the FIRST characters revealed!? Ghost Rider and Nemesis.
I call BS. They must have more control over this game than "plllleeeease Marvel?" I doubt Marvel gives a damn as long as they're making money. If they were really concerned about "priority lists" we would not have got a bunch of D list characters no one cares about. Like MODOK, Skrull, Nova, etc. They don't care, as long as they make money.
This is really just Ryota and his team saying, "Shut up. This is our game and we're putting what WE want in it. We still fully expect you to buy this crap game, however."

This could have worked (to a degree) Fear Itself and the current Thunderbolts have been the only time Juggs has been even vaguely relevant since the mid 90s.
Not to mention we have plenty of X-Men characters in the game as is and MvC2 Juggs just wasn't that interesting (at least to me).

Marvel wants to include characters they want to advertise for upcoming projects. MODOK was likely included because the Iron Man franchise has become so much more popular, and because the character plays a big role in the Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes cartoon from last year.
Super-Skrull was no doubt included because not only will the Skrulls be a central focus of next season of Earth's Mightiest Heroes, but rumour has it that the Skrulls will even be the main villains of their massive film project The Avengers, which has been in the making for god knows how long.
They're also trying to make Cosmic Marvel a bigger deal, so Nova and Rocket Raccoon were no doubt included because of that, to expose people to new characters from an area that many are not familiar with.
Your reasoning is incredibly flawed. Didn't you ever wonder why MvC3 doesn't have that robust of a X-Men presence, but has most of the relevant Avengers playable? (Even Ant-Man as a cameo in Hawkeye's hyper). Because of the Avengers film. Marvel want to advertise. They do care. Because it gives them money.

I love how when ever people hear about the more darkstalkers characters for MvC3. They want to rag on the existing members. I'm fine with current DS characters (mainly cuz I use all three) and the only ones I would truly want to see in MVC3 is Talbain and Donovan, but I pretty much have to agreed what with #24. If the other DS characters made into the game and require skill. People would complain on why they made the cut.

Nitsuma has said in the past that they've shot down some of Marvel's requests before.
The most notable being that they didn't want to add any of the Fantastic Four, and eventually came to a compromise by adding Super Skrull instead. Another one was choosing not to add Punisher because they instead wanted to add Chris.
It's not like Marvel FORCES them to add in characters that Capcom doesn't want because like you say, at the end of the day it's still their game. Marvel simply has control over whether or not they'll allow Capcom to use certain character licenses, because it belongs to them after all.
Marvel has a list of characters they want in the game, and so does Capcom. And like any good business transaction, there's negotiation involved, in this case on who gets in the game and what references they want to make in stages/endings/quotes/etc.
TL;DR - Capcom's game, Marvel's license. There's gonna be inputs from both sides.
And don't try to use this as an excuse to rag on Rocket Raccoon.

IIRC Niitsuma said in an interview before MvC3's release (and before Sentinel was revealed) Capcom had asked Marvel if they could use Juggernaut and Sentinel, but Marvel said no. People thought he was disconfirming both of them when he was really just disconfirming Juggernaut. Your point to post 58 still stands, but I figured I'd clarify a little bit on how he might've gotten tripped up by that statement.

Its my opinion that even though marvels side of the roster is due to marketing and exposure to new characters, I still believe the roster is very pleasing. I dont care for X-23, She-hulk, and MODOK. I believe they could of had much better choices than them, strictly speaking character wise, im not saying their gameplay is bad, in fact the opposite of that. But to the point, Marvel aint bad on what they got.

Thanks its been a while since I read those interviews, however, (thou I may B wrong) I believe it was Capcom who turned down use of Juggs at the last moment. I think the whole thing was that they didn't want 2use Storm and Sentinel again due to the fact that they wanted new chars in this installment, but were reduced 2the later. I don't quite remember Y but I kno it had 2do wit fan request for those 2particular chars.

They can decide who and what characters capcom can use or not. Rocket Raccoon from Gardians of the Galaxy and Nova are awesome characters aswell if you read comics. So I'm glad they are shedding light on some of the unfamiliar or old fan favorites. Like iron fist, and Dr. strange. Not only is it smart business but the mvc3 cast is diversified. Only 1 clone in the game and thats akuma/ryu and thats on capcoms side.

She Hulk and Task along with a few others were not very well known amongst more casual/non-comic reading fans of this crossover series, so that could be there reason. Dr. Strange has a movie coming up, promotion tactics. Thor had a movie too. One of Spidey's costumes is Miles Morales, you think it's just because they felt it would be a cool addition? No. You think Marvel is stupid enough NOT to make an opportunity out of this?

It's weird that I only play 4 characters on the Capcom side are Spencer, Trish, Wesker , Arthur and, Cris. I find it odd that most of the Capcom cast isn't enticing at all. Not interested at all in nemesis, Phoenix Wright, Virgil Even Strider. Frank West? I will have to wait and see. judging by TVC, he looks interesting but I will have to try him out myself.

I love Juggernaut. He was my favorite character in Marvel 2 (tied with Tronn), and my favorite character from the X-Men series in the comics. And I do not, and never have, blame Capcom for this. Capcom loves Juggernaut, that's obvious. However, it is also obvious that Marvel HATES him, which is why A. they ignore him in all the movies (except for X3, but...yeah), despite him being a large part of Dr. Xavier's childhood, and B. refusing to let Capcom put him into the game TWICE. The Avengers argument doesn't work when comparing them to the amount of X-men. Almost everyone was an Avenger at some point. They have all started in their own titles and have consistently supported their own titles. They're not just considered "Avengers characters".
Wolverine is famous for being an X-Man, and was an X-Man a lot longer than several of the Avengers were Avengers. When people think of Spider-Man, do they instantly think Avenger? Does anyone actually look at him and complain about it being too many Avengers?
IMO the only characters who should count as Avengers for the game are Cap, Iron Man, Thor(due to the "Avengers assemble!" line), Hawkeye, and MODOK.

I'm with Marvel on this. Juggernaut never had the greatest moveset or gameplay in the older games and we have enough heavy hitting power characters AND X-Men as is. I think there are far better choices that deserve recognition than Juggernaut. We've lost nothing from his absence. Still, I suppose there are worse characters this guy could've asked about. Hawkeye's status effect arrows make him more of a creative character then Shotoclops(as much as i like him) and Psylocke.
Also,this game has one other bowman(who uses it in one attack and one hyper) compared to the other beam and sword users,so i don't see why this is so much of an issue.

She hulk is still cureently featured in stuff like "Fear itself" , and regularly get offered (soon to be dead) ongoing series
Taskmaster had been popping around quite often actually those past years .
Storm got nothing planned ? yeah except you know becoming an avengers and back to being lieutenant to Cyclops' own xmen team .
iron Fist's book has been cancelled , but he pops quite often in avengers books and major crossovers , and soon will be in another try at make the Defenders a big team .
Strange is plannd as a movie and constantly with the avengers . Not to mention a new team of defenders coming up , again .
Dormammu has been quite around ... in New avengers . especially controlling as a pawn the Hood , one of the new avengers reccurent foes .
Phoenix even dead is often used , and might come back indeed in 2012 . Not to mention she's a movie star anyway .

That's not the point , both are still important figures in current avengers line-ups . Spiderman is even getting a frickin' ongoing serie soon ... whose premise , is mostly him being helped by the avengers teammates (Avenging spiderman) .

The avengers are made up from every other members who had his her own comic, So Spider-Man, She-Hulk, Wolverine, and Hulk do count so no there aren't more X-Men then Avengers.

You counted Deadpool as a x-men that is worse then me counting Hulk's red hulk costume.
So when is a Movie considered comic book cannon? Also Modok can be considered a Villian of the x-men as well, as he has fought the x-men several times. And besides we are swaying away from the big picture. We are talking about who is representing WHAT series. Spiderman, wolverine, and she-hulk ARE NOT representing the avengers. They may have been part of the avengers, but they aren't representing them in this game.
Sentinel isn't a x-men, in that case modok is a avenger. Deadpool never was a x-men. Modok is a avenger villain just like sentinel is a x men villain.

You are missing the point. Sentinel isn't a X-men but he is representing THE X-MEN SERIES. You won't find the avengers fighting sentinel's all the time, but the x-men fight them in nearly all of their comic book arcs. Just because the avengers fought a few sentinels through a couple of comics doesn't make them a Avenger villain. Hell even spiderman fought a sentinel once, that doesn't mean he is a constant threat to spiderman. X-men fought Modok before as well, would you consider him a X-men representative?

And the fact is, their are more X-men representatives then Avengers. You can be as technical as you want. If you ask a casual marvel fan which who are the avengers, who do you think they are going to pick out? Not spiderman or wolverine, that's certain. They are going to associate them to their own series. and that's what I mean REPRESENTATIVE of their series. Spiderman isn't repping Avengers in this game, he is more closer to repping the Fantastic 4 then avengers in this game, same as she-hulk. Na, True fans of marvel know Avengers is way more numerous than x-men. If you know anything about "recent comic events" you would know that it is represented heavily in mvc3 and especially the umvc3. Marvel is a money making company so promoting Avengers in umvc3 is going to be big. expect cameos of Dr. Strange, and iron fist next Avengers movie.
