This dude was the truth. Not overrated at all. He won with characters that he, and everyone else, is allowed to play with, and he did it convincingly up until grand finals where he had to buckle down.
He went through the greats like they were scrubs.
If winning doesn't get you respect, what does? Losing? Where has the meritocracy in the world gone?
Congrats on using Tron and Pheonix dieing to know how he will do in UMvC3 for the next major.

Viscant uses tronne, wesker and phoenix all the time. Noel and justin uses wolvy and akuma constantly as well. You act like Flocker is the only one.
Flocker is pretty good. His execution was mostly spot on that night. But I'm actually more interested in the felicia player that made it all the way to combofiend and eliminated him. I actually thought combofiend was gonna be in grand finals for sure. That was an exciting match.

DjHoushen or something, but yeah he looks REALLY solid. On top of that both Skrull and Felicia are getting major buffs in Ultimate so we'll see if that helps him out.
Respect for Zero and all his priority? Wolfeyes you really need to evaluate your salt and hate....This guy has a nice team setup and it works for him....When playing games competivily u play ur strategy and go with what works, his strategy and execution was on point and therefore he won....is he the better player? probably not...is he the smarter player, Salty Justin said it best, when u win with Op characters doesn't mean ur better just mean ur smarter...Maybe in Umvc3 he will outsmart everyone once again....and Wolf if u think getting the so called "throne" is as easy getting rid of an *invincible* assist and nerfing Phoenix, then I can't wait to see u make it out of pools, beat Justin, Combofiend, Marn, Mike, Viscant, PR. Balrog, MarlinPie, Noel, and Yipes. When u do that please hold up a sign with my username sayin F*ck you pay me and I will call u master and pay you $2,500 on top of your victory winnings......
@#3 I agree with what you're saying in that it is a pretty cheap team: Zero= high priority, quick meter building Tron= god-like assist, high health, even her death pretty much gest Jean 5 meters Phoenix/D. Phoenix= we all already know.
However, alot of players use cheap teams in tourneys and I don't mean to call you out, but I find it odd you would say this when you posted this in an early post,

@13 First, I want to make it clear that I'm not trying to start a war here with you (we all know how out of control these things tend to be for no reason). Now, I read through the comments and I don't see many people getting, "Wet for him." It seems most people agree that he showed some talent, had a great showing that day, and that's about it. I don't seeing many people posting he is the next big thing (on here atleast).
I personally think the guy played well, but kind of acted as a wildcard that people weren't ready for and will probably not place near as high in later tournaments. He might lose to all those players 9 out of 10 times any other day, but it was no fluke that he beat some great names that day. That being said though, I think the guy does deserve his 5 minutes in the spotlight and that doesn't seem like asking to much from the community.

@ 11 well played! On the topic of flocker, dude is mad good. Ive seen him on the option select stream beast it up using unconvential teams sans phoenix using characters such as morrigan. I think he went by "Job" on there. Anyhow he was beating all the competition including Ryan and I think Flash as well.
No matter who the f*cks he uses wether they are top tier or not, the guy said he picked the characters he loved from day one, that instantly wins my respect. It was great mike pointed out the story about the article stating that players who picked a character for their love of it, usually wins over the player who picks the same character for tier wh*ring.
How is he going to do in UMvC3? Well, know this, Zero is gonna get a lot more ridiculous thanks to the fact he can cancel specials with buster, Flocker's Zero will only get better. As for Tron and Phoenix, I'm sure he'll find something cheap to replace them lol.

this guy is really good at the game and i understand why he chose to play the way he did, since there was a lot of money at stake. BUUUUUUUT the (in lack of a better word) tierwhore approach to the game is dangerous to the community, since the streams lose entertainment value.

God forbid anyone use their favorite characters from a series in a video game. Because, ya know, it's only right that you pick someone else because those favorite characters are coincidentally high priority and extremely good....right?

The guy stated that Zero is his favorite character. Ever. Tron goes right with him, and Mega Man isn't in the game. His favorite character from Marvel? Phoenix. You do the math.
I'm so sick of people hating on others and trying to call them out because they play who they want to play. I play Balrog in Super because I love his style and his character. Yet, I get a bunch of crap because he's "Easy Mode"? You can miss me with all that extra crap. I'm going to play who I want to play. And if you don't like it, you can leave the control for someone who won't whine about my choices.
Sure, I hate Phoenix. But I can't be mad at someone who actually loves the character. Marvel Vs. Capcom 3? I play Dante (Favorite character. EVER.), Akuma (Favorite Street Fighter character, but I'm not that great at vortex so I went with my 2nd favorite Balrog), and Sentinel (Don't care about his health nerf. He looks like he's doing a pelvic thrust when he stands there. Epic taunts when I win and he looks like he's teabagging. And I love when he says "Hard Driiiive" - no homo).
All in all? Get over it. I don't respect Phoenix. But I DO respect Phoenix players who actually play the character because they love her from the series. She was pretty big in the Marvel world, so I can kinda see the possibility of her being a hit with some of the players. Love it or hate it - there are people who play characters because they simply love their appearance, voice, and personality. Hold Dat.
@26 nah man, what we need is a game that is balanced so that none of the chars win for free. i would never have the players choose inferior strats for the sake of entertainment, but you've gotta agree that seeing viscant win evo was the most unhype moment of the tournament.

Viscant never got my respect either. He did the samething invincible assist Phoenix. Umvc comes out all that is going to change. I'll put money that we wont hear Viscant or Wokka Flocker in Finals again.
Put Phoenix and invincible assist in Justin Wong or Combo-Fiend hands and I guarantee you other players wont see the light of day. Some people play with heart others for greed.
Yes it was legal that they used those characters, but there is no Honor or respect to be gained. It's like when the samurai went to battle with swords and the enemy had guns. Yea the guys with the guns won, but there was no honor to be gained.

That's true. I can see both sides of the coin, though.
Playing for honor and respect won't put food on the table or make people sponsor you, ya know? I wish it didn't have to be that way, but a lot of tournament players don't want to go and have their time wasted. So they pick top tier to give them better chances at winning.
That's why I don't think I'd ever become a tournament player. It can have an influence on your team, what you believe to be freedom of choice, and even how you see the game. Again, I hate Phoenix. But if you were to stand in front of someone and ask "Dude, why'd you pick such a broken team?" and they go "Because I had to make the money. I have to feed myself. I need a sponsorship.."

You know why people like Justin Wong, Combo Fiend, or even Mike Ross get so much love. It's because not only are they good but they make the characters they use better than they really are.
Justin Wong was the first to put Wolverine Akuma together. Very first mvc3 stream/tournament. He won tournaments without wolverine akuma aswell. He had She-hulk, ammy, tron. And if you watch wnf he would pick a different team every week.
Combo Fiend put She-hulk Spencer and Taskmaster on the map. Before the game even came out people said they sucked.
Mike Ross uses Hulk which in itself is entertaining. He doesn't win much, but he sure as hell makes Hulk better than what he seems.

Even the most broken, unbalanced game to be featured in EVO(protip, it's not MvC3) had 25% of the cast being truly viable. There is never one single choice that guarantees a victory. The better players almost always choose the better characters. The excitement comes from the level of play, not cheering for low tier heroes.
You think PRRogs Dante/Wolverine/Tron team was any 'cheaper'? It's two top tiers and one of the two best assists in the game.
If you go to a tourney, you SHOULD pick whichever character you think gives you the best chance to win, be it the character strength, fitting your playstyle or even betting on surprise factor.
If people cannot respect players doing just that, then their opinions are worth CRAP.

Players should pick whatever characters they want, for whatever reason they want, and really shouldn't care about what the Internet says about their choices. All that should matter is high level play. As long as the LEVEL OF PLAY is good, nothing else should matter.
It kills me when people say "they should pick low tier characters because it makes the streams more interesting!" As if a player's sole reason for playing the game is for other peope's enjoyment. SMH.
Umvc comes out and they will be forgotten. Least he got his 15 minutes of fame. No honor gets you no respect.

The guy is good but once he's on the radar it gets a lot harder as players will be studying his game and coming up with counter strategies. If he can keep up, then he'll earn his place as a top tier player.

Phoenix is broken and is getting fixed. If he still picks her and does well in umvc then I'll admit I'm just hating and I must not know anything about the game.
His zero is nice, but winning one tournament using tron assist and phoenix doesn't prove earning a sponsorship and respect. When those characters catch that nerf pipe sponsors going to be like wtf?! I thought you was a good player. He'll be like "na i just had derp tier and they removed it. Had to feed the kids."
Wolfeyes make sure u do that for me I only pay out in U.S.D's so you will be good (but on to more realistic topics)
It kills me that in a tournament full of pro's you people think anybody can grab the most broken characters and win..Honor/Respect? Hmmm what happen to those MVC2 days when everybody tier whored MSP? Cable, Sent? Your favorite players today most definitely wasn't running a team of Rogue, Sakura, Jin, in tournaments
Flocker/Viscant and even Champ, have to know what they are doing with the character...I want to see any of you run a Phoenix team and not get her snapped in mixed up and instant killed....And lets not pretend that the top players aren't playing with some of the strongest characters using some of the most broken tactics I saw one felicia, Skrull,Chris and Ryu...if your about honor and respect then those players should get it.....Not the Wolverines, the Mags, The Sents, the Akumas, The Weskers, The Dante's, and the Spencers (although Combofiend is the only spencer who is good the rest of u spencers suck azz only zip lining and bionic arming lol)
Do you honestly think top players care about your respect or your entertainment? I can't tell if people are just trolling and looking for something to say when they talk like that or if they actually believe anyone cares what a random internet commenter thinks. The winner gets the money, respect won't buy you a dime.
@41 I find it odd why you think any of those players care about having your respect for who they pick. You can tell from Flocker's enthusiasm alone that he is not just playing to win, but playing to have fun! He didn't even expect to do that well. Everyone can pick the same characters. And please don't use Wong's speech about picking cheap people doesn't make you better, but smart...i'm sorry but using wolvie isn't much better imo, especially with akuma. And J Wong has used plenty of cheap top tiers in his career, including mvc2. Just because Wong was using his current mvc3 team from the beginning doesn't mean much. You don't know how long Flocker has played this team either...but that fact is irrelevant anyway. Frankly, alot of his success was actually from his use of Zero alone, and Zero is quite the glass cannon.
Just as much as watching solely top tier characters play, it's more annoying hearing people complain about supposed 'tier *******'

and all the other scrubs that complain about games they don't even know how to play,
you need to understand that at a high level these games aren't about what characters you think are rad but what approach and tools they offer. you might pick dante because you played dmc and think he's the coolest character ever, but some people see a character with well rounded offense, great normals, ability for long combos, dhc glitching, etc. Why the hell are people crying about people picking tron for an assist? Are you f-cking retarded? Does it not make sense in your brain to say "hmm this character's assist will help me in hairy situations, a good tool to add to my team."? These retards are the same people that said grabs were cheap 10 years ago.
