Well, I use Balrog. People say that he's Easy Mode, but I find it really hard to guard against jumps and other things on knockdown. I'm committed to using him because I like his style, his voice, and his personality. And he's just vicious.
....But at the same time, getting thrown out of Dash Punch and safe jumped isn't my idea of a good time. Lol.
cammy or cody are awesome with this kind of stuff.
Cody's cl.hp counter hit >> u2, trade >> u2. Same for cammy with her cr.hp ^^.
When I frame trap with them I don't really OS but do the motion, if it trades or counter hit I press buttons. It's a must master ;).
You have to admit that this level of tech is taking the game into exactly the kind of realms that killed 3rd Strike/the whole scene before.
Although there are sporadic vids like this one telling you about it, the whole business of option selects is really a secret mechanic of the game. It is not explained in the manual or in any of the trials (which are now outdated anyway as they weren't updated with AE frame data).
As an aspiring but casual player, option selects are an invisible barrier that put you at an automatic disadvantage.
Say what you like about Virtua Fighter, but at least VF4 Evolution included a tuorial taking you through the very sophisticated option selects present in that game.

The manual doesn't mention frame data, frame traps, unblockable setups, tick throws, or the uses of any specific moves either. Is that an invisible barrier too?
There is no such thing as an aspiring, yet casual player. If you want to be proficient at any fighter you have to put thousands of hours into it just to start. Find the option selects yourself if you want a leg up that badly, part of the process of improving is figuring out how to do so yourself.

you do know Option Selects do have there weaknesses too right? there are many cases where you could OS wrong or your OS doesnt come out because you mistimed it...now if your talking about a pro level, im pretty sure and Japanese pro at the least would destroy anyone here without even relying on OS's. its part of the game, but in advanced area. if you dont like it, you can always play with people who dont know how to OS...im sure you can find some.
P.S OS have been around since SF2...so saying Option Selects "killed" 3S is really dumb.
OS didn't kill 3S, but by common acknowledgement complexity of mechanics did.
I know OS have been around for a long time, but the difference now is that they are becoming more widespread among some levels of player without any formal acknowlegement from Capcom.
Future fighting game tutorials need to come up with a higher level of detail, because the entire community has levelled up since SF4 came out. My example is the tutorial for VF, where it goes to a high enough level to explain OS in the game.
SkullGirls tutorial looks like it MIGHT be up to the job...

What is this secret knowledge? Just because Capcom doesn't detail them in their manuals doesn't make it "secret".
And the gems are a bad analogy. Having extra gameplay options you paid for is not the same as understanding an aspect of a game that someone else doesn't.
And again, there is no common acknowledgement that complexity killed 3S. 3S died in popularity for two simple reasons.
1. The arcade scene diminished.
2. It aged. 3S is twelve years old, it couldn't stay fresh forever in a nonexistent arcade environment.
#7 is right. This kind of overly complicated nonsense is what killed fighting games in the late '90s and early '00s.
You 3S turds better stop trying to be experts or I'll fart right on your ugly faces and force you to smell it. You guys would probably enjoy it, though. 3S = a bag of farts.
@7 and @18
This kind of "overly complicated nonsense" did not 'kill' the fighting game scene. Like others have said, it's been around since SF2. The only difference now is that you are aware of this stuff because of the internet. You enjoyed the game before I'm assuming back in SF2 days? Well you can just as easily enjoy it now. Just ignore these types of topics if you don't want to bother. There are thousands upon thousands of players who play online and don't practice this stuff in depth, so it's not like you will constantly be out your element. It's pretty rare that i fight people online that use option selects outside of maybe crouch tech OS.
Nowadays, we have a big advantage over the old days because of the internet in that we have access to all of the new techniques as they are found, so we are all ABLE to be on the same page. But you shouldn't feel obligated to learn every facet of it. It's just there if you want to step up your game. That's the beauty of games like Street fighter. They can be as complicated or simple as you want The vast majority of players will just stick with the basics.
Wow. This has got to be one of the most advanced things I've ever seen. I was unaware that you could do this. Great find. Definitely gonna try to incorporate this into my game. It's gonna take a lot of practice, though. Lol.
