There's a lot more happening to UMVC3 than just 12 new characters. Air X-Factor, Assists, and several other elements are being adjusted. Here's a video to breakdown listing all these changes and giving an example of what to look for.

thx max for the info keep up the good work
As per usual, great coverage of the game by Maximillion. On the down-back air dash change it looks like Thor's air dash has been buffed because he looks much faster.
Nerfing the speed of air dashes and making it unable to block during air dashes seems like an either/or decision to me. The implementation of both of them is a decision I don't agree with, but I suppose we'll see how it works out soon enough.
Meh air dash nerf. I've got Vergil now haha XD
Based on what I have seen here, it looks like Capcom does'nt want people doing "Touch-of-Death" combos anymore, everything is effected by some kind of deterioration. This means people are really gonna have to work hard for there damage which means more time in training mode.
The removal of blockable air-dashes just adds more risk versus reward. Characters like Ammy and Magneto can't just blinklyrush in without thinking about their manuver.
I also think this game maybe catering towards the japanese players a bit since they don't like vs. games because the lack of stratagy, they probably want to attract more traditional level players to the table.
For the most part I appreciate these changes, they will give lower tier characters chance to compete instead of being highly at a disadvantage.
Man this is gonna affect my team. Morrigan unique dash won't let her defend. Hsien-Ko airwalk is slow and won't help much. She-Hulk....well she doesn't have a airdash :/ Well Ima have to work extra hard now to keep my mid tier characters to go even more down.
Yes! Doom and Dante looks about the same. Still want to see the new stuff you will be able to pull off with them.

I'm not too worried about Morrigan despite the inability to block out of air dashes in UMvC3; in fact I've been looking for quicker ways to block out of Morrigan's air dashes since day one of Vanilla MvC3 given you can't block until after the comparitively long start-up of her air dashes. All I can say is I've found some surprisingly useful tricks that I think have gone overlooked by many.
On that note, I've been working on a tutorial video for Morrigan centered around her movement for quite some time to showcase these findings. While this concept might sound lackluster in comparison to say combo videos I feel it's just as important to know how to move a character around the screen efficiently and safely as it is to know how to inflict damage upon your opponent. Though I'll definitely have some combos thrown in there so it won't just be movement based stuff.
When this video is finally complete (it'll be some time after UMvC3 is released as I need to make sure everything is still viable as well as check out a few new assists that have piqued my interest as far as helping Morrigan move about goes. On top of that I'm moving soon so things have been extremely hectic these past few months, giving me very little time to legitimately work on it) I hope I can quell some of your worries and hopefully enhance your ability (as well as my own) to use Morrigan while doing so.
Sorry if it sounds like I'm advertising or something like that as that wasn't my goal at all.

I don't that she's gonna have a problem. Unless you guys blindly air dash at the opponent and don't call assists to back you up. But you don't do it, so enjoy her new fireball, easier-to-aim missiles, and overall better damage output. I've underestimated how good Morrigan is, it's just I could never get used to her dashes.
As a Morrigan main I was trying to make her pretty good and she is, but with no blocking during air-dash makes her worse much worse.
I was thinking for changing Zero to Vergil but with this it's so sad but I'll drop Morrigan.
I can't even approach to anyone, I can't soul fist, flight cancel, down air dash anyome because is so risky! ):
Why Capcom, why! *so sad*
If you guys didn't notice, this is all for the benefit of zoning characters. Characters that could do amazing rush downs could do better zoning than characters that were supposed to be strictly zoning. Arthur, the true zoner, could be outdone by simple zoning from magneto, zero, doom, storm, the list goes on and on. yeah Arthur has more tools, but why use him when you have people who could do both rush down and zone with better effect. And i love Arthur. I hope zoners will be a lot more viable now, especially Arthur and Rocket Raccoon.
@20
Very well said. Not to mention fast down-back air dashes allowed for the likes of Magneto, Doom, and Storm to easily 'run away' from the opponent and begin zoning again, unlike Arthur who had to fight just to gain even the slightest amount of breathing room and tactical advantage once the opponent got in on him.
I agree with your thoughts on zoners being more viable in UMvC3; here's hoping.
I guess a lot of people here don't realize Morrigan doesn't have a regular ground dash OR back dash. If you dash with her anywhere she takes to the air. In the video it shows she can not block during any of her dashes. I want to ask you now. HOW the hell is Morrigan suppose to move in UMVC3 now? She can't every dash cause the second she does not matter where she's completely vulnerable and her dashes are slow as hell too.
Listen I can understand nerfing some characters air dashes but to nerf the characters with slow speed airdashes is just STUPIDITY. Which is why UMVC3 is not going to be the last MVC3 title. This change is going to make so many character completely nonviable and people are gonna complain and eventually we're gonna get UMVC3:AE.
Dude I don't even play Morrigan either. I've never touched her in this game but it's pretty god damn obvious how bad she is going to be now or any character that had a slow airdash before.
@23
I beg to differ, Morrigan's best air mobility -in my opinion anyway- actually comes from while she's in flight mode from which she can't block in the first place.
So how do we remedy her inability to block from an air dash in UMvC3? We activate flight mode and then air dash. Why? Because if the opponent looks like they're about to hit you, simply end flight mode and block; instant pseudo air dash block-cancelling. It takes quick reflexes and good prediction skills, but it pays off.
I don't get why people use her 'ground' dashes in the first place as, quite frankly, they suck. Her air dashes are faster and can be cancelled at any time via flight and activating flight mode while on the ground allows for quicker high-low games than dashing foward with her.
People also seem to not realize she can triangle dash via 'down' air dash cancelled into Shell Kick at the lowest point of the jump. The best part? The moment she touches the ground she can block. Again, it takes some practice, but being able to move across the screen in a single triangle dash (yes, her's moves her that far if done properly) pays off. This is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of Morrigan's movement options.
Like you said you don't play Morrigan, so this is more or less for the other people who don't realize there will be plenty of ways to make her air-dashes safe (outside of assists).
All in all the only people that are really going to have trouble with Morrigan (and other characters with air dashes) in UMvC3 are the people who think air dashing and pressing buttons is a viable strategy. She won't be the best character by any means, but I think with her buffs and smart use of her movement options she'll actually be better in UMvC3.
Did anyone else notice Super Skrull doesn't say HE LOVES YOU anymore during his Inferno super?
@25 I know, they nerfed him to death. I miss it all the time.
I'm still waiting on news of whether this air dash blocking nerf effects command dashes like Spidey's web zip. If Spidey can still block during that web zip to get in, he might finally get some time to shine as the rushdown character he was supposed to be.
SKRULL DOESN'T SAY "HE LOVES YOU" ANYMORE?!?! I feel empty inside.
Characters that rely heavily on air dashes to get around will just need to have an assist to back them up before they commit to an air dash. That way your opponent is forced to block giving you freedom to dash in the air, just make sure your assist has committed to their attack before you air dash or else you both can be hit by whatever your opponent may choose to punish your assist with. You just have to think more technically; throw out a projectile call your assist, then air dash to close in on space.
Personally I like that Capcom is making the game more technical and not so beginner friendly. However, the downside about the air dash nerf is that characters with teleports will have an overall advantage in the game. Still the same principle applies when you face them and need to airdash to close in, though characters that can teleport are usually in your face for the most part anyways. When that happens just be patient and don't blindly throw out attacks.
Like I said I appreciate the technicality to the changes they have made; beginners are going to have a much tougher time adapting.
Not happy with the air dash blocking nerf, i use Lei Lei and she needs all the help she can get, but this puts her in a even worst situation from before, she can practically go nowhere now. If they felt they needed to nerf such a thing why not do it to those characters who have 8 way dash, forget that, the slow downward dash is nerf enough as it is.
well now we know we need to start practicing with new characters and also new combos with every characters too make it work for a reason theres a training and mission mode and also i hope they add more mission combos then before because last one din't help to learn new combos i had too learn from youtube to get better in the game and some need to learn by myself which somethings din't help me alot but practicing is what counts and good to know what this video shows us its a good notice what change and what did not.
