Also, Dominion Method Gaming's Jason24cf caught most of the Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 panel, including the Q&A session that happened after wards. Again, the audio on this recording is MUCH better than the previously video posted. Hit the jump for the second part of the SFxT panel, and the UMvC3 panel as well.
@1
Couldn't really agree more.
I liked it better when it was just a SFxT Tag Team game.
The Gem idea is good, but it could have been implemented into another game instead of being forcibly shoved down our throats all of a sudden into a perfectly good title.
@3
like i said in a previous post
this should ahve been saved for power stone revamp.
THat would have made so much more sense then this crap.
Wat is it with capcom and trying to "level" the playing field.
Why do they consider the Mirror Match a problem? Mirror matches are awesome. This match between Sanford and Mago was awesome; the fact that both players are on an exactly even playing field lets true skill come out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K4kBdO...
Hey Capcom Guys
KEEP IT SIMPLE.
Thats the general message here.
It's really good that umvc3 is now accepted by most as a standalone awesome game instead of the dlc we all so desperately wanted, all of these modes including heroes and heralds far Outshine sfxt for me, especially since h and h is FOR FUN and not a necessary add on to the game, it's like an mmo now, everyone will be trying to outgear each other because the casuals in beginner gear will be destroyed by the advancing collectors of gems. Also combos will be gem specific and it will ruin the exploration of tech indefinitely
Im still excited for the game, but I think most people site convoluted game mechanics as being a major reason why Fighting games died in the mid 90's.
tags, power gems, supers, cross supers, pandora- each one seems like fun by themselves, but all rolled into one game, might be excessive.
@11: Are you kidding? They release a half-finished game 6 months before the 'real game', and it's bound to be one of the highest-selling fighting games of the last decade, even considering how Capcom scammed their customers.
They don't have to listen to 'the voices' anymore.
@8: I agree with that, but Capcom probably won't now since they are already taking pre-orders of the SP edition with gems as their main selling point. If they have a separate mode, they're probably scared of pissing off the people who paid for those extra gems because not many people will play gem mode. But who knows, maybe gems will add an awesome twist to game-play instead of ruining it like everybody thinks.
RIP SFxT...I was really looking forward to that game. And capcom just killed it.
(Gems are awesome Capcom, don't listen to internet haters.
BLING BLING!)
"If you want to make enemies, try to change something."

The FGC is a bunch of hypocrits and I hope Capcom does'nt listen to the community. Your gonna go through all these changes to protest this system then someone like Justin Wong is gonna love this mode and then your gonna be d*** riding the Gem system all the way through launch and beyond. Watch.
Thats why I can't take the FGC seriously, nothing but a bunch of cry babies who can't "really" play, can't adjust to change, and can't have any fun. Just a bunch of spoiled brats who think the world revolves around them.
But hey im not saying you should like everything they put out but dont pretend like you know whats gonna happen. People can have their opinions but opinions only make sense when they are made by sensible people. If I seem harsh and unreasonable, perhaps it is because there is some truth to what i've said.
I play fighters a fair bit but still consider myself a casual gamer. I simply can't be arsed with figuring all this nonsense. Even if it makes the game is better some how for players who want to really customise for me I'd rather not have to learn all this and try out different mechanics. Whats wrong with just a straight up set of unique characters and leave it at that.
@19: If [you] seem...unreasonable, you're telling the truth?
You contradict yourself IN THE SAME SENTENCE. That takes skill.
@19
theres a difference between good/interesting changes and pure retardation. The community was good with everything so far including pandora so dont even try to say the community doesnt want change, the gems are just to dumb to even give capcom the benefit of the doubt(so far every time i have done this capcom has burned me).
This is going to be like smash with items always on.
SFxTxSmash
Calling it right now
Everybody needs to create a account on Capcom-Unity now and protest the schit out this. Or you will have a crappy game. I wasn't a fan of it in the first place but now they are just throwing schit out there a$$.
@24
Don't get me wrong, I loved World Tour because it was something EXTRA.
True, my Karin (Karin...*sniff*) could be different from yours depending on which abilities you equipped onto her (Super Guard, Custom Combo, etc) and we can have fights to see how my customized character is different/better than yours based on preference but, in the end, it's something EXTRA. Not a main part of the game.
If there's a Parry Gem, maybe I'll listen for a bit, but as it stands now, something that looks like it should be a separate mode (Like Heroes and Heralds for UMvC3) shouldn't be a primary aspect of the game.
Just so long they add my team of Bison and Bryan Fury I'm gonna embrace this game with open arms. Gems or no gems, Pandora or no Pandora, Cross Assault, etc. consider me stoked.
I know im about to contradict myseld here, but I still yearn for the days when Street Fighter didn't rely on extra stuff like supers, you know like the Hyper Fighting, pre Super Turbo days, when all the characters had were normals, specials and player fundamentals. Those days are long but hey maybe Capcom will eventually release something along those lines again.
@29
As much as I would agree with you, there's almost no way for Capcom to go back to something simple.
"Not enough dynamic camera angles!"
"Not enough flashy things!"
"Not enough stylish moves"
"It's too simple!"
They feel like they have to keep things different and interesting so more diverse groups could buy their games.
This game, on the other hand...Good concept for the Gems, but it could've been used for another game.
Also, I heard this game was supposed to be just a Tag Team game with Tekken characters, you guys hear about that?
Here's a solution for all of us.If Ono wants us to buy gems in order to be competitive online,then we should go on twitter and tell him one of the following:
A.Either we change his mind and add in a on/off option for the gems
Or B.Add in a feature where we can all be rewarded with gems by doing accomplishments.
That,or they should remove the system completely.They listened to us before about removing Ultras from SFxT.So we should do the same with the gem system.
@30
Yeah I heard that on Alphaism Radio/Bunkei's Corner.They somewhat mentioned that. But in order to differentiate it from SF4 to the casual gamer, Capcom had to add all these bells and whistles because this is an A.D.H.D. society that we're living in now. Simplifying the game all while convoluting it with a sh*tload of other random stuff. It is what it is and I'll most likely still play it.
The biggest problem with the gem system(besides the fact that you niw purchase power ups for your characters) is that the power ups are first of all dumb and generic second is that how is this really different than selecting supers in 3S? People are just going to find out that one combination is better than all the rest and then it wont even matter if you have other options. If these changes were character specific say you can choose to give Ryu his old c. Mk hit box and active frames or slightly better recovery on his fireballs, that IS interesting because can gear Ryu to be strong at zoning or footsies depends on the match up and it would help characters deal with troublesome matches.
I'm really curious as to how this is going to work in tournament play with the exclusive gems and all that nonsense.
I dunno, I'm not one to b-tch but this damaged my hype for the game.
Very easy to be negative and dismissive about something that no one has played around with yet...
I'll still buy it if it has Juri. maybe this gem system might end up being similar to the T.O.P. system in Mark of the Wolves, but with more options/strategies. I'm curious to see how it will pan out, but first things first- I need Juri officially announced.
From what I gather, the gem defense is a way to slow down people from destroying you. It activates after a while if you get hit non stop... but its duration doesn't last long.
The gem offense is for people who are into combo and will activate for a short time too.
There is also a gem speed, and I expect the last 2 gems to be related to the super bar and healing factor. The speed gem could turn into the most best gem depending how it is balanced. If the speed gem is just about making the walking and dash movement of the character faster, then it is fine. However, if it affects the frame data, then it is probably going to be broken.
@yes4me
the difference is the optionality. you are FORCED to use teh gem system (which itself might be not AS bad) and to buy more gems as DLC / don't have acces to preorder exclusive gems. THAT is the problem. you are forced to buy a core mechanism.
mvc3's mode is a NEW optional mode, which is fine. We all wish capcom would make that for the gemsystem aswell.
Having seen the video, I can see where Ono is coming from. Not many casual gamers play SF4 anymore and he wants SFxT to be played by everyone no matter whether they have play fighting games or not.
I get the feeling Ono wants to take fighting games in a new direction. If you like SFxT, just buy it! It will be interesting to see how the Gems work in the future. Overall, fighting games from Capcom will continue to become easier until the casual audience don't feel intimidated.
This game is clearly not marketed towards gamers such as myself. I hope SFxT does well for Capcom's sake.
Really, I can't really understand why everyone is so against gems. It adds a level of depth to the gameplay, and can also even the field.
Like I am not that good at combos, so I might add on some gems that will boost the power of ones I have.
A friend might be good at combos, but a little lacking when it comes to getting in. A bit of speed might help.
Defense....well, I have to be honest, that brings the term 'turtle' to mind but you never know.
In all honesty, it sounds like you people are afraid of trying out something new, or needing to learn something new. Which if that's the case....then most people on Eventhubs and in the FGC are just sad. Very very very sad.
@44
thats the stupidest thing capcom can do. Fighting games have always been a niche thing. By rapeing the gameplay and makeing everything baby mode u wont make anyone happy in the end. ANd then theres always another option, include a normal mode(for us) and a simple mode with all the casual stuff on. Forceing the casual crap on everyone wont work in the end.
Also dont forget that with the amount of imformation avaiable from sites like this/youtube/srk/etc that gap between casual and average is thin. If capcom spent more time teaching players how to play ie better tutorials(is it that hard to have short vids explaining things?) u could take those casuals and equip them with the skills to understand/play and appreciate high lvl gameplay which would help the franchise in the end. Think about chess, when u casualize it wat does it become? checkers.
I hope that heroes and heralds mode is it's own thing. I don't want to chase an invisible character running through projectiles in a rank match. Just give me my regular match with X-factor and i'll be just fine. No time for these gimmicky tricks.
We need way more info before casting judgment on the Gem System. We hardly know any of the specifics. But, if they keep Zangief at the strength level of the last build, then Zangief + 40% dmg = Instant death.
@48 LMFAO Thats truth right there. But most people are missing the point, they don't realize that Capcom are selling these special gems that can only be obtained through pre-orders thus making the gem system unbalanced.
Casuals will be casual. Doesn't matter how much you dumb down the game or cater to them, they will still just mash buttons and then quit the game a week later. Instead of dumbing the game down,you should make good tutorial modes to teach casuals how to actually play.
problem with mirror matches?
at the end all pro players are gonna exploit top tier gems + top tier teams.
At the end of the day I say who gives a $hit. I know it's sad because the engine was looking very promising.
But it's the game mechanics of a VERSUS game. I don't know why I (we) ever expected anything different.
Now if the next Street Fighter (Main Series) has this crap, then I'll go FU<KING NUTS!
Just keep the wimpy, wonky stuff in the Versus titles and I'm fine... I guess.
On another note, Capcom really did change their tone on this game didn't they? It was first advertised a some kind of Hardcore Blood Match between two series that hate eachother... Now it's the casual friendly, inviting party event fun game happy hour
Wow, I wonder why Hardcore fans might feel slighted, lool.
Gem mechanic just seems like something ripped out of a mmorpg. The gems seem very familiar the the gems you would see in wow especially with the timed buffs you get so often....
Overall I just think its too much for one fighting game. You have the duo attack with 2 characters on screen at the same time...then you have pandora, an 8 second gamble that gives you infinite meter,(slightly more damage?), now the gems which gives you buffs when you do certain things and when things are done to you. will have to get my hands on it when it comes out and see.
LOVE the part where the crowd boos the Gem System.
One thing that isn't being mentioned:
Part of playing these games is learning the Strenghts and Weaknesses of 'your' character.
I.E. You might sacrifice strength for a fast character. Or your character might be super strong but limited combos or walk speed.
So what happens when you've got Sakura and you add Power Gems to make her as physically powerful as Ryu?
Why would you need to truly "learn" your character's Strenghts and Weaknesses if you have Gems to "level the playing field"?
Why would anyone ever bother using Ryu (example) when Sakura (Plus Gems) is equally strong with better combos?
The entire idea of how this will pan out is blowing my mind.
I really hate to say it, but the Hype has died for me with this reveal. It sounds like Capcom is catering to the casuals with the inclusion of the gems, and making them Mandatory.
And we all know what happens when games start catering to the casuals and ignoring the hardcore...
I for one welcome our new GEM overlords.
(Not really, I just like that joke)
@61 and 62
Ok then, you've reversed it lol. Then what reason would you ever have to use Sakura?
My point is you can negate Core Character Balance by adding attributes. By using that theory, if Gems can make any character "as strong" or "as fast" as any other character in the game, then the game essentially only has ONE character!
That kills the essence of Street Fighter all day! It's supposed to be about learning different styles. Different strengths and weaknesses. Not using Power up Gems to make every character equal!
@67
The only way gems could make it so that all the characters are the same is if they all had the same special moves, etc. Gems probably won't change frame data.
I'd use sakura because I like the character (like in sf4). Some people can do better with characters they like over top-tier.
The ''core balance'' will be balanced with the gems in mind. It's not like they're gonna balance the game and then add the gems in without testing.
@ people crying about the game being casual
So many people are crying about the game becoming more casual. It was obvious what the new trend for fighting games was gonna be when SF4 came out. It's like people forgot that sf4 is pretty damn casual too. Of course, sf4 can be played at a high level, and SxT will be played at that same level too. So there's an auto-tech gem, so what? If you're a better player you'll still win. Most players would cry if the game was too hardcore.
Gem System
Pros:
1. They diversify the flow of the game; In previous builds, one fighter would do a quick, three-hit combo and then tag cancel out and then the new fighter would do a three-hit combo and then tag cancel out, and again and again until the match was over. However, it looks like you lose your gem activation when you tag out. So it gives you an incentive to stay longer with one fighter and to do more than just combo-tag cancel.
2. They add depth to the strategy of the game; not only must you consider what you need to compensate for the weakness of your character or emphasize his or her strengths, but you also have to consider how the conditions of your gems might limit your opponent's actions. So if your character is T. Hawk and you're up against Blanka (just hypothetically), you're pretty much screwed. But if you have a gem that capitalizes on the fact that Blanka's strategy is to just blanka ball you to death (like "block 3 specials and gain +10% dmg), then you might be able to level the playing field against Blanka when previously you didn't have that option.
Cons
1. Purchasing gems either through special pre-orders or DLC seems, in concept anyways, to give those players an unfair advantage. Players should be rewarded for their skill, not for investing money into DLC gems.
2. There's a good chance that certain gems builds will be better than others. For instance, I'm willing to bet that C. Gauge Gems will be the most popular among pro players because having more C. Gauge means more opportunities to do EX Attacks, Cross Assualts, and Ultras. Also, unlike Strength, Speed, and Defense boosts, the effects of a C. Gauge boost benefits both of your fighters.
@19
Man I totally agree with you. That scenario will play out when the game comes out and everybody will be all over it lol.
Personally since I haven't PLAYED with this gem system, I can't say it will ruin the game. I won't deny that it worries me but, it's way too early to judge this mechanic. Wait till we get our hands on it and have played it before we make these assumptions about this game, that's still in development.
the way i see gems working is this:
1. In 2 months pro players/trolls start finding great gem combos or sets for cetain characters once again there is some sort of teir whoring.
2. it balances out so noone ever has to figure out a strategy. just the though 'oh thank god that gem covered that whole in my game'
3. they actaully are balanced and are fine. which will never happen that first time around as with anything in a fighter.
The best thing about these comments are all the people who have "tapped out for x reason" yet still find the time to comment on additional information about a game they supposedly tapped out. You broke up with her, move on to the next game otherwise you are just look psycho. It's really psychotic.
The games does look like an interesting idea.. I'm really doing the grown up, smart thing and waiting to get my hands on it.
I'm sure a lot of people think the gem's are not such a great idea. I just want to say, i think this looks hype as hell! Wasn't too interested in just another Marvel tag team clone rehash, and this puts a fresh spin on something that has really been beat into the ground by tekken, marvel, skull girls, and any other tag team fighter! No more lame mirror matches! Thank you capcom for at least trying something something new! No one else has the balls! :)
Having a very hard time caring about this game after the whole Gem DLC nonsense.
