Here's a run down of some of the notable stuff covered.
• There will be no option to disable gems in SFxT. Ono said they're too important to the gameplay.
• Gems are designed to be complex — for advanced players. They really want you to think about which gems will fit your play style and approach.
• Preset gem packages for new players will help them along, though.
• The DLC load times for SSF4 AE are partially a problem with the infrastructure on XBL/PSN. Capcom is aware that this is an issue, though.
• Not all gems in SFxT will be opened up from the get go, DLC and other stuff will make more of them available. There will be a starter set available right out of the gate.
• There are two kinds of gems, one is passive and another is active. One type is geared towards new players, that help with blocking and throwing, and another type of gems that are for high level players, the latter of which adding a more strategic element.
Ballsy. They are making quite a commitment to this.
Well, this game's gone from being really good to just a pile of dogturd. Kudos to capcom trying hard to make their games a success, but now you're just going overboard.
Oh well, don't knock it till you've tried it...=\
Hmmm, the potential for strategy customization is actually awesome...but,
If you squint reeaally hard as you look into the distant horizon, you'll see charges for unique and "rare" gems.
Scary part is that, in order to compete/not-get-bodied-constantly you HAVE to stay updated and most likely pay for the pleasure to be able to compete on a level field.
I hope this aint true, and yes, I know its early so I could be way off
"Ono said they're too important to the gameplay."
I was 100% positive this game was good without Gems, but this mechanic is really THAT important?
I'm not liking how the decision to include Pre-Order specific Gem Packs will, basically, split the players from launch.
It's like freaking Pokemon cards and buying one of the Gym Leader starter decks or something while others have the standard Starter deck LOL. I hope you don't have to buy Gems in packs like Boosters and pray you get something good.
why the fck is there no option? If there is even a small percentage of people who want to turn it off just for fun, the option should be there. It isnt like from a developmental stand point or from a financial stand point it is difficult, they are merely forcing something that almost half the community already doesnt like from a fundamental standpoint onto everyone.
Ridiculous. Capcom has really really bad in recent years
also, making a system were some people can pay for bonuses mandatory.....what a money grab
I'm okay with this so long as EVERYONE get's access to all of the same gems, FOR FREE... if not then screw Capcom for trying to pry money out of me... i'm already paying $40 more dollars for UMvC3 so i'm just gonna stick with that if SFxTekken fails.
I hate to knock something I haven't personally tried, but... this really killed all the hype I had for the game. Gems can't be turned off, and many gems will be available as DLC. This is NOT a good combination, as it turns from pay to play to pay to win. Not to mention, it's only a matter of time before the "best" gems and gem combos are found, which will then hinder the game even more, since you may end up having to use (and in order to use them, you may have to pay for them) these select gems if you want to stay competitive.
I think that this is a really bad decision. Hopefully over the next few months leading up to the release they change their minds and allow us to disable gems.
I was so hype for this game but DLC gems killed it. There is no way I'm rewarding Capcom for this.
Why did they have to permanently add this Gems system, it should have been kept for another mode. Sounds like something out of Puzzle Fighter or more in relation to Heros vs Heralds in UMvC3. How can this be tournament viable if it requires you to unlock certain gems by doing playing through the game or doing achievements?
So it's like the arcana's Arcana Heart, except we have to pay for them? This is going to be hell for tournament organizers; are they going to restrict gems to the starter set or are they going to be forced to buy all the gem sets?
uughhh....
God I hope im off
But this gimmick is getting more an more odd the more its focused on.
Power Stone was cool with this gimmick
Marvel Super Heroes also
But this?
it's Capcom
it's Namco
it's new chars
it's got a cross system
it's got "pandora"
it's got a tranny
it's got a HUGE dude who dates said tranny
it's got a currency gem system
and we CANT opt out of it?!
Feels shoehorned......
Wait...im thinkin about this too much.....
lemme call this lady I met and ask her what shes wearing......
I was expecting a good clean fight until adding GEMs to modify gameplay aspects.... Pandora mode is a fair mechanic to sacrifice your partner for all or nothing bout. Gem for Auto Block? Auto Throw or Auto Throw Tech come on we don't need things like that... We will see how this works (sigh)....
Ill just wait what people have to say about this game before I get it. Not really sure where I stand about this game but my HYPE meter did drop by a large margin. Since Seth said thd gem system is balanced that means DLC gems should be free because Im assuming. You have to be pretty desperate to pay for a gem just so you could win.
Now I see how Pandora comes into play. The damage on pandora mode looked weak. But with these added power gems it could be extremely strong. And just like that I'm not buying this game again. I thought these gems would be a seperate mode, like heroes and heralds. I'm not paying extra for some frakking gems. I get my tail whipped anyway. I'm sure they wont help that much.
ive defended capcom(ono) this whole time, i thought this game looked sick as hell, even the gems looked cool, but special DLC gems, pre-order gem bonuses, not cool man.
Like Kuja117 said, im dishing out $40 for UMvC3, i liked vanilla and im excited that everyone still gets a leveled playing field in the new one, however, this doesnt seem to be the case for SFxT anymore
ill keep waiting to see if these so called special preorder, DLC gems are a total game changer or if they are to help out the scrubs, if thats the case i do hope tournament rules are adjusted to prevent use of these and that some sort of balance is maintained.
Having played sfxt at nycc and being at the panel I can honestly see where the gem system could be used at high-level play. Only if the gems are the aggressive gems NOT the passive gems.
I say that because aggressive gems have to be earned, and i love that idea. If your opponent gets his 10% damage activated, then that's your fault for getting hit.
wtf is wrong with you people??? its like you act your opponent has gems and YOU don't. you don't like auto block gem? use it yourself and even out the field. jesus Ive never heard of such stupidity. its like you guys hate xfactor, but you yourself can use it aswell.
This honestly kind of killed some of my hype for this game.... hehehe. But moving on, I, like others, believe the best way to do this is for this to have a seperate mode, like heroes vs. heralds in MvC3
And with DLC gems, "starter gems" etc, its looking like not everyone will have access to the same gems, which sounds completely stupid. How will this be a tourney fighter with such an odd addition like this?
The only thing I can see is for the tourney scene to come up with gems that every player has to use, which of course will create a ridiculously large debate T--T
I think Capcom should have just left the game system as it was, without the gem thing. And if they absolutely HAD to have something like this, then NO DLC GEMS, no extra gems you can buy, merely a few gems you can select from that EVERYONE has access to. Or hell, they coulda just made it similiar the groove system from Capcom vs. SNK 2.
Yep so totally called it back when this was first announced and honestly can people really say they were suprised by this move. This isnt Smash Bros. Alot of hardwork went into the design and creation of this system and i'm sure its creators dont want to see all that hard work get squandered and go to waste by the simple addition of an off switch. Having said that, Capcom just lost a purchase from me and although i think the community will pick this up if it turns into a pay to win structure like many others have speculated with the addition of exclusive gems for money then hopefully the community also has the brains to say "F**k This!" and stick it to Crapcom and let this game's scene die before it ever begins. Nothing to see here people move along, move along. :/
I'm not sure why this feels like a fusion of MMORPG or RPG's in general with Fighting Games. Like Materia from Final Fantasy VII. If it helps add variety and longevity to the game in one shot then more power to them. We'll see how it goes.
From the footage you have seen or for people whom have actually played the game are there any characters in SFxT that seem more powerful than others? Characters we might have to look out for? Or does it feel somewhat balanced across the board for this build?
@39
As far as tournaments go, they'll most likely stick to the stock gems on the disc and ban the dlc gems. While you have every right to cancel your purchase, I will say that while the gems system itself is kind of disappointing, the flow and pacing of the core game is amazing.
Well the way I see it is,... Since nothing is final until release date... What if the DLC packs are free.. There will still be complaining... Maybe not as much but just leave the game's mechanics alone for a bit. Since I believe all Dlc that comes with a game through preo order is a bunch of BS since it is already on your disc to begin with.. Technically no one is at a disadvantage... I would say unless they give out official costs for the dlc if there will be a fee, then let us not worry about it yet. I honestly do no see why people are so shocked about this idea. Since he spoke about it before actually adding it to the most recent build for this game. I felt it was going to be in a future title. If not this one... Then some other title.
the gems are activated by meeting some criteria in-game. i don't know why people are complaining about this system when you consider this.
it's about time fighting games became more adventurous than just street fighter or mortal kombat + 1
DLC + "not all gems will be opened from the START" = It must be paid DLC or it makes no sense.
Thanks Crapcom, for comfirming that this game is trashed. Oh, I personally could have loved the gems. But you made it DLC, AND you force it down our throat.
Scumbags. There's a game I'm skipping.
This tells me "We're going to weed out the scrubs and only dedicated, tournament-level players are gonna be able to play this game."
Good thing I'm not a scrub. ;3
I really try not to be this guy, especially since I've been really hyped about this game from launch and even endured the whole Pandora thing, and figured the Gem thing could be cool.
I'm not liking this.
Particularly this: "Not all gems in SFxT will be opened up from the get go, DLC and other stuff will make more of them available. There will be a starter set available right out of the gate."
What I imagine then, is that most tourneys are going to run with that prelim set and nothing more, because the thought of having to go and buy DLC power-ups JUST to compete is asinine.
Buying characters is one thing. Buying auto-guard is another. And even if it's free, I still don't like the idea behind it. If I want to collect **** to compete, I'll go catch Pokemon, thanks. (Disclaimer: I am a Pokemon fanatic, this is not an insult.)
I'm really playing wait-and-see now. I was fine when Gems were an option... but now they're really FORCING the issue. And Capcom's track record with balancing things is not exactly spectacular right now (gives X-Factor and Rose nerfs the evil eye)...
We'll see, but for now it looks like Tekken Tag Tournament 2 will be my main game after all unless I'm really proven wrong about this gem system. And I really hope I am, because I really loved the initial concept behind this game.
I would love nothing better than to look back at this post next summer and have someone say "that roknin guy was a blathering a-hole who panicked over nothing!"
And for me to shamefully nod in agreement as I play another 15 hours of SFxT with my Lili / Juri team, happily.
The game looked so awesome without it.
I don't wanna judge the system since I obviously haven't played it, but Pandora by itself was already a really hard feature to swallow. I'll just wait and see what people who've played this build have to say about it.
I not many pepole don't care but
Rumor: Assassin's Creed's Ezio coming to Soulcalibur 5
http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/17/rum...
autot block and throw tech aren't just for noobs like Capcom predicts. Pros will use and abuse them b/c they don't have to expend execution on option select techs and blocking. Every extra point of execution adds to the probability of error. Unless you have 99% execution (which I have never seen in a pro), then it will be used and abused by pros.
Though I'm being really open-minded about this gem system, i do have one big complaint. I feel like it takes away from the whole purpose of the game; that being a tag-based game.
During my play at comic-con (two matches, the lines were long) I kept thinking "okay now i need to switch, or this is the perfect time to launch into character B or if I tatsu here i can call in character A." But with gems i feel like its going to be more like, "okay i don't need to switch cause i'm so close to getting the gem activated." I felt like instead of Tag-based game we now get a Gem-based game.
This move is appauling Capcom. And after all the crap you've put us through. One thing's for sure the tournament scene for this is probably DOA.
@ 52 - and as a sidebar addendum to that, I'm going to make a quick 3-sentence rant about that.
I'm ****ing tired of these cameo appearances out of nowhere. **** was cute in Brawl, okay in SC2, but it's starting to irk the hell out of me. Please FG devs, let's just - I dunno' - create compelling characters to add to the game and quit this "exclusive character from random popular game we had nothing to ****ing do with!" stuff please.
...whew, had to let that out, sorry about that. Not the most popular opinion I know. I guess at the very least, Ezio actually somewhat fits the SC universe... unlike some other characters I could name... >.>
Lol at the people saying "I don't wanna judge the game before it's done, but I hate this idea"...as if that makes you sound more reasonable than the other knee-jerkers.
Hey, here's an idea, if you don't want to judge the game before it's done...DON'T.
At least wait until you have A SINGLE CLUE about how these gems will be distributed and what Capcom has in store for the future.
Capcom isn't stupid.
I know the 14 and 15 year old game producers of this site like to think they know better than Capcom, the company that INVENTED the modern fighting game as we know it...
But, I'll say it again:
CAPCOM ISN'T STUPID.
i'm liking 3s more and more. hope tourneys will ignore this gimmicky crap, and go back to 3s. I'm still a beginner at 3s, but high lvl play is so fun to watch, unpredictable in a way that ssf4 can never be. MvC3 also has that unpredictability, but there is way too much luck involved, too many one touch kills, and w/ Xfactor, any noob can kill off a whole team using just BnBs.
I like how in 3s, if you are getting bodied, it reflects alot on skill.
also, this is exactly the reason I stopped playing Magic the Gathering (1999-2000ish)
Such a fun game, and with literally millions of deck combos, and a very robust trading market, even before the days of widespread internet.
Did quite well with my red rushdown decks at tourneys. but as a jobless teenager, there was no financial way I could remain competitive with all the new and novel stuff Wizards of The Coast came out w/
The gem system it's an absolutely step forward for fighting games, it wont be just up to execution skills, now youll need planning and experimenting... options will be unlimited and I like that....
But heres the other part...
Capcom, maybe you can fool newcomers and convince them how rewarding is to PAY for this DLC, but for the people who have been playin your games since the good old days (circa Street Fighter 2 in the 90s), this is nothing else than a fraud. This gems content, its the kind of thing that a good game has in it's own, I mean, seriously, just tell us how much of my money you need to make a real competitive game to immerse myself for a good amount of years, AND MAKE IT GOOD THIS TIME.
We can't blame Capcom for been following the same strategy every other companies are using to sell their games almost twice per client, but at least they should get honest with us about how many DLC's we will have to download for been able to play comfortably.
LOL imagine how would it be if you should pay for having a king or a tower in your chess board. Then I say, make the whole game amazing, and I will pay more for it, no DLC BS please.
@ 57 - Eh, trust me, I'm know game producer, and I'm also not 14/15 years of age. And I'm willing to give it a chance.
But hey, it is what it is at this point. I don't like what I'm hearing. We'll see means exactly that: we'll see.
And you're right, Capcom isn't stupid. But like any company - nay, any human being - they are capable of trying something that may not work out for the best. I'll at least give them this: it's a bold move to make it impossible to play without this system in place.
But for me, even aesthetically, it was really odd seeing all these different colors and effects on characters every few seconds. Just doesn't look attractive.
The other thing that's a bit of a downer is that initially, they were putting the game out there as a "this isn't some friendly match. these two franchises hate each other." As of more recent, it's leaned much more towards "it's a party atmosphere, a celebration." I'm not sure I like that.
But in any case, I do agree the sky isn't falling. It's just... got some cracks in it that I'm hoping Capcom does a good job at sealing.
Well, it was fun while it lasted. Capcom really screwed up a great thing. I guess ill just chill out with some classics and wait for them to re-reboot the series with sf5 on the next gen systems.
I mean cmon now, auto block? I can see every turtle player across the global smileing for that one. And no it isnt for new players. U will see strong def player use it since it will make there def unbreakable. Have fun with that lol.
this is madness.
Ono: Madness?
ono: THIS IS GEMS!!!(kicks complainers down a dark hole)
lol i dont really like the idea either but who knows it might be fun(not likely).
BTW
HELL YEA ELENA MADE THE CUT BABY!!!
@11
its important to the game because this is how capcom is gonna milk people for dlc money.
F--k This! *goes back to playing Vampire Saviour*
@ Xykes - I will say this though. If Capcom really does do what it sounds like they intent to do with the gems as far as DLC, then I will have to disagree: Capcom is stupid.
I don't think anything pisses off a fan base more than nickel & diming them, and making the only option to improve be DLC purchases... that's the very definition of nickel & diming.
Of course, that also depend son what the gems are.
And more than likely, most tourneys will run the starter set.
It sucks that you have to you have to pre-order to get some of them and that they might (most likely) be paid DLC. That's not fair.
Otherwise, this might be interesting :D.
@64 Where did you see that?
@67
i almost dont want to see them do it. THey would casulize it to death.
@69
OMG you didnt hear? lupinko the famous leaker, has told people that bison,elena,brain,jacks,and christy made the cut in his latest tweet. go check it out
@71 I still wouldn't buy a new Darkstalkers as you've stated. Plus the casual crowd does not realize that a community gives games longevity.
just got SNK or the capcom unity forums, everybody is talkikng about it there. Oh be perpared for some really bad news for some characters ='(
If it comes to the situation where one must decide between purchasing certain gems or playing without them I'll be boycotting this game (originally was going to be a day one purchase). This kind of greedy consumerism doesn't just step over the line, it craps on it.
@76 Yeah, I'm seeing everyone talking about this in a lot of different places :D!
If Elena and Christie are in the game... it's 100%. I just found my team.
Thanks a lot.

@76
or got to the guys tweeter page
lol yea now im going to rub it in every haters FACE XD
@60 Arma
I think the gimmicks actually kill skill, or the need for it.
My main example would be x-factor. I am only an OK MvC3 player (Task, Chun, Sentinel). If I am down to Sent, even if the other guy has full health on all Chars, and even if he has anti-Sent options, I will simply X-F lvl3 with Sent, and I feel like god. Just fly safely to mid screen and catch them with Sent's gdlk cr.B, and done and done.
SF4's evolution has gotten to the point that high level play is very predictable given one player has gotten an untechable knockdown. with using O/S, the one on wakeup has great odds - they must guess correct and also safe. I don't see combacks very often anymore in high level play.
lvl3xf dark pheonix just drives the point home. Is there skill involved? I would assure you that any 10yr old can pull of killer DPlvl3XF combos. That's not a comback at all.
Whereas in 3s, if you are SKILLED enough you can turn a game around. Parry is not a gimmick nor is it broken. that would assume that any novice can pull it off at the drop of a dime. I had a friend quit 3SO b/c he for the life of him could not parry EX fireballs, much less normals. Great 3S players:
1. Reaction, everyone has an innate ceiling b/c it's biological, but everyone can improve.
2. Know every normal, special, blockstring, SA of every character.
3. Know the frame data of everything in (2), especially startup and active. This part involves immense skill and practice.
4. Some parrys of SA must be done before or during your opponents input, due to some fast startup for some SAs
5. GREAT at reading opponents. an unsuccessful parry attempt, you will eat a combo.
6. I love how GREAT SF3 players who use parry alot can make the opponent feel as if their mind and tactics are an open book.
Reading your opponents for parry-able attacks goes way beyond any skill required for SF4 or MvC3. In the former, close range combat is just focus fishing, you dash out to be safe - or simply picking the char w/ a great poking move to immobilize whatever your opponent does. no "reading" involved here in the sense of parry-reading in 3s
Hello this is just other reason for them to rerelease another version i saw this coming after i read that they had this in the first place. SF X TK is going to be a dumb game too many mechanics cross assault, supers, tag team, pandora, GEMS!! all so you all can cry about how broken it is and they later on at comic con Super Street Fighter X Tekken will be announced with rebalanced gems. Thank god im pirating this crap
@42
Not true.
Any TO with half a brain will just say, "No Gems" right off the bat due to General Rule that some consoles will have Special Edition and some won't. It's inevitable.
@Roknin
I agree but honestly, even if Ono suddenly decides to say, "Fu<k Harada", It won't bring any of the hype this Gem system he threw out there back.
The game was on the up and up back in August and he single-handedly managed to kill all that built hype in a matter of seconds by saying, "You can't disable gems" AND then "It's part of the main game" and when you thought he wouldn't stop; "Some will be acquired through DLC".
If his boss could see fan reactions after those lines; I guarantee he would have been fired on the spot.
@Video
This is by far the dumbest thing you could do for the casuals.
This gem thing will only promote lucky wins. It's not teaching them HOW to actually learn Street Fighter mechanics, something "Super Smas Bros." even does to beginners.(No F*cking seriously, Smash Bros has a tutorial for beginners. NOT ONCE HAS STREET FIGHTER DONE THAT).
I can't wait for EVO because if Capcom sponsors.. pros will troll the ever-loving sh!t out of gems with Auto-block,tech,roll.
Why? Because it destroys mixups, overheads, and I guarantee unblockable setups will be non-existent.
"We want to give more strategy while removing skill and execution"
*Slow Clap*
Way to go Capcom. Words can't describe how much that won't help casual players.
call me cynical but I blame alot of the fanboy hype. Keep in mind Corporations are driven by profit only (not a condemnation, just the way it is).
From when the first teaser of Ryu vs Kazuya, to all the teasers.
In the past few months Capcom have seen in various forums the hunger and hype for each new character. e.g., "hey relive your CVS2 or Alpha days with Rolento!"
Every corp tries its best to read and guage its intended audience. They see all the cyber-splooging and think:
"Let's milk, milk and milk. They were suckered into AE, and we made tons of cash with only two new shotos and twin model swaps. SSF4 made a ton, and ppl are SOO HYPED about UMVC3"
what they seem to forget is that those added characters, whereas gems are only likely to kill this game at a competitive level.
Again this is Capcom we're talking about, and I'm sure they'll add new characters to SFxT's cast.
Capcom knows we are willing to pay for DLC. And most of us are, as long as it is GOOD DLC - new characters being the only ones I would go for.
Again to reiterate my first comment and many that followed, Ono-San is a fool to assume that autoguard and auto-tech will only be used by beginners.
whether you are a turtle or rushdown style, I see no way that these "beginner" gems will be rampant in tourney play. I can see how not having to hold back or having to O/S throw tech can free up alot of stuff-execution wise.
Get Ready for SUPER SFxTEKKEN. GEM option will be ON/OFF.
Goddammit.
The worst part about this is that you're forced to glow all sorts of weird-ass colors.
@ lol Been waiting for someone to see the comparison.
No option to turn it off, the more powerful gems have to be unlocked, and presumably, you'd need to pay for gems as DLC. Without the ability to turn it off, they're effectively splitting the community in all sorts of directions, and pay-to-win is really not good for a fighting game. Here's hoping they don't make *rare* gems or have some kind of lottery system, because then the game will just die.
Maybe and i hope this, that you will have to enter in a a code, a la, online passes with EA sports games to get access to the gem, so if tourneys ban gem, the advisors dont enter any code we dont use gems for the tourney. But if it shown as a vital disadvantage or makes matches slow and or boring then advisors will implement the gems.
@99
Unlocking Gems through game progression isn't that bad.
what IS bad is that they are making exclusive "Pay to get" gems when all it's going to do is cause trouble.
Then when the game becomes "Pay to win", people will either throw meaningless money at Capcom or let the game die and hopefully rise from the ashes of failure as a better game.
@Lyn What do you think of Lupinko hinting at Elena/Christie?
@ Lyn:
"I agree but honestly, even if Ono suddenly decides to say, "Fu<k Harada", It won't bring any of the hype this Gem system he threw out there back.
The game was on the up and up back in August and he single-handedly managed to kill all that built hype in a matter of seconds by saying, "You can't disable gems" AND then "It's part of the main game" and when you thought he wouldn't stop; "Some will be acquired through DLC".
If his boss could see fan reactions after those lines; I guarantee he would have been fired on the spot."
Agreed. I like Ono and all, but he'd have some serious explaining to do.
For me, I feel like I've been slowly cooling off on this game piece by piece. Once Pandora was demonstrated and fully explained, I remember having this sigh of relief and just feeling like "okay, this is the craziest it'll get. I'm cool with that."
Scramble mode? Starting to look like Smash but whatever, alright, I'm still good.
Gems? Made me do a serious WTF but I was nervous.
Gems are mandatory? Special edition gems? DLC gems?
* insert facepalm *
Out of respect I won't do this... but I'm sorely tempted to go to S-Kill and Ono's twitter accounts and just outright ask, "uh.. can we take this game back in time to about July and forget that everything (aside from 4-player tag matches because that's actually awesome) happened? PLEASE?"
I'm still getting it and I'm hoping that it's not as bad as it sounds. But it sounds really bad on paper.
Actually, it's kinda' funny. I said I was done with Marvel and I was for sure getting SFxT.
It's... kinda swinging the other way slowly-but-surely.
God I really hope they don't screw this game up with this gem system. I really hope I'm whining for no good reason.
Here's to all the bad kids who foolishly thought this game was anything but casual.
Ha-ha. GG's. You lose.
I mean really, how could you be that naive? Jesus.
@MyBlock #111
Exactly.
Almost every top player that I've spoken too has pretty much said that this game is just a casual party game. It's fun but not to be taken seriously. This was before Pandora and the Gem system were announced btw.
#108
But see after all your facepalming and nervous sweats you're still getting the damn game. This is why Capcom is allowed to get away with murder. People like you despite being slapped in the face with crappy modes still support them...and worse of all they know this.
STOP! FOR CHRIST SAKE! STOP!
@Elena#1fan
A random post of one earlier spectated character?
Yea.. real convincing.
@110
Whether or not it's casual is no excuse for forcing a "Gem system" and then saying, "you can't turn off gems" and then say, "We have some through DLC only."
That's not how you do things.
@Roknin
I'm going to buy it too; hopefully things will turn for the better in the next 5 months but 5 months isn't a long time tbh...
@Benjeezy
Yeah, worse case-scenario would that characters are built with the intention of using specific gems to make them "viable" and not just place blame on the player using him/her.
Only thing I could say is; either be patient and learn or buy the special edition it seems.
@
Lol look at all the rage and salt. Like a Ocean full of salt! I wasn't really to hype on this version of the game, I' waiting for TxSF so I'm not really that bothered about this gem system. Besides the game isn't even out, wait till it comes out before you start raging all over the place and crying tears of salt.
@118
LOL UMvC3 Has X-factor; the most lulz-worthy and frowned upon mechanic ever spawned from the dev room of Capcom.
Baby-mode BnB's becoming team killers is the pure-definition of "no-skill" in fighting game universe and bringing it back alongside the release of an expansion only raises the salt levels even higher than before.
Lol whatever Lyn, you complain so much about how *insert capcom problem* yet you still go out and support the same said problem that you are complaining about. You're just a big hypocrite. And besides, UMvC may have X factor, but atleast everybody has it. And apparently, not everybody is going to be able to access the same gems without some cash at hand. I'll take FREE X-factor then some DLC gems anyday.
I'll just leave this here. http://management.about.com/cs/people...
@IntialR
So you support gimmicks within a fighting game?
Ok, good for you. Now run along and go play. Grown ups have business to discuss.
Oh yeah, for the record; I've complained about a lot of things but the one thing I never do is go back on it.
I don't like Marvel 3. It's too lulzy. SFxT has lost A LOT of hype these past few days but it's still coming out better than Marvel 3 ever did on release.
While, you on the other hand; try to nitpick everything I say in hopes to catch me slipping only to call me a hypocrite for saying "I'm still going to try it".
I said the same thing for Marvel that I was going to try it and it was one of the worse decisions i've could have ever done.
Am I going to be dumb enough to buy the 1.1.0 Patch?
ROFL no.
Also, there has been gimmicks in fighting games for a while now. Simple as that. Some gimmicks takes more skill then others, but a gimmick is a gimmick. Either you suck it up and deal with it, and learn how to use it to your advantage Or don't buy the game and continue to complain how one part of the gameplay experience kept you from enjoying the game as a whole.
Yeah Im definitely not buying this on release. Maybe only second hand after a few months if at all.
I`ve no problem with the gem system, I think it has the possibility to add a lot of fun and variation to the game.
However Im not happy at all with the way that you get a "starter pack" with the game, and you then have to pay more for the rest.
It`s that kind of DLC shi.t that has put me off other games and stopped me buying their sequels, and I haven`t looked back.
But if I stop playing Street Fighter, I`ll have nothing left ;_;
Why Capcom...why...
How can people actually think for a second that Capcom, (!CAPCOM!) is gonna give out the Gem DLC for free.....
Pay more to keep up with the other players? F@CK YOU.
Considering gems apparently don't give you an "insane advantage" I doubt it too much of a difference. The only thing that worries me is how much gems will cost, since its such an integral part of the game shouldn't all gems be free?
@128
I wouldn't be surprised if it was free, and that they are still just finishing up and balancing any un-released gem. Either that or i'm just thinking too positively. Either way, this game wasn't a day-one buy for me to begin with, I'll just have this game under my radar until it comes out.
Yup that's what I'm trying to say #112
I don't hate the gem system, but trying to peg it off like it was made for the veterans is insulting our intelligence.
Ono I'd say as a producer has been doing a B or B+ job. Remember he took on SFIV because NO ONE else wanted to. Even during the SF4 days they never came out A+.
I'm wondering what it'd be be like if we had a different team making this or SF5. Im worried SF5 will only be "OK." I'll be wondering what the future SF games would be like if someone else was producing them. Ono is a busy man but I dont see him as a visionary.
@125
The future: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbsS6C...
I'll give it a chance, the idea doesnt sound good to me, but i got over Ultra combos, X-factor, Sentinelscrubs and Phoenix and still managed to have a lot of fun with capcom fighters. And who knows, maybe its even an interesting feature, even thou i prefer it simple in a fighter.
Sure there will be dlc gems, but i managed to win against Shuma and Jill too, even thou i had no access to them.
And i really hope a lot of the guys who act like babys and are already saying that they wont buy this game: I hope you stick to your promise, even if it doesnt turn out as bad as you think. I hope we get spared of your presence. I certainly wouldnt want to play people like you.
@134
If the roster is all your worried about that's understandable.
-
They admitted that they will be starting out at around 8-10 (these are all hand drawn animations mind you). Reverage Labs stated they have a luxurious Downloadable Content route planned out for their (25+) characters. (Mike Z also reiterated a few months ago that the team is thinking up a logical way for Downloadable Content to be issued out to all consumers).
-
The SkullGirls team knows whats up. They are kind & smart people.
I am also worried about people adjusting their gems before every match. It would take forever in a tourny. They should let you save profiles maybe?
But the gem idea could be interesting. Of course, it is natural adolescent human behavior to dismiss everything they arent used to. I have learned that 10 years ago after much internet traffic. Kids will be kids.
Give it a rest and a chance.
My biggest problem with the the gem
Systems is that i will make the game extremly more random
It looks like the game rooster will be around 60.
Thats alot. you will not only have to learn every 1 on 1match up and every team combonation match up. Now you have to learn the effect of every gem. 60 charactors , 3600 team combonation and 36 gems and 3 per charactor. As a casule player this too much too learn.
The moment they compared this game to Magic the Gathering, I knew we were in trouble. The only reason why they would compare it to MtG is if they planned on using a similar structure of buying "booster packs" to increase the amount of gems you have. I can't afford a money sink like this, so I am passing.
I did not read all the comments, a bit to much right now.
But, even though not being able to turn off gems wont bother me too much, it does bother me that they are so important, and yet more will be avaible trough DLC, this is why i think DLC rins games. It is importante, but from the looks of it, if half of the poepl here spend and extra cash on DLC they will have advantages...
That sucks IMO and i cant wait to be proven wrong, i was not hyped with this game at all, (more of a tekken fan, want T X SF), but it grew onto me, i started liking it and enjoying what it has to offer, now i just hope they dont ruin it with dlc :S
@roarmonster: "It isnt like from a developmental stand point or from a financial stand point it is difficult, they are merely forcing something that almost half the community already doesnt like from a fundamental standpoint onto everyone."
You didn't play the game with the gems in it yet. Why would anyone take your opinion about what you "don't like" in the system seriously?
I haven't watched the video yet. But, does Ono mention anything about being forced to choose Gems, ala assists in MvC3?
If not, then players simply don't have to choose them during tournament play (should they be banned).
They've just ruined this game, they're appealing to scrubs around the world who win by the most annoying tactics. Clearly going to see Hugo with 5 strength gems, ibuki with 5 ability gems and ken with 50 scrubby shoryuken gems. Capcom is gonna lose themselves a hell of a lot of customers, me for 1!
147 half the community don't like anything they make. They did'nt like Ultras, they did'nt like X-Factor they did'nt like Costume DLC, they just don't like anything. Thats just the nature of change; many people don't like anything they don't understand. Capcom can't make everyone happy. The fact is there is just as many people who love the idea as there is people who don't and some of the ones who don't may come around. I think Capcoms mistake was not implementing the Gems in the beguinning so people could get use to the idea. The early trailers made you think you were getting what you see so it sold a false story.
@149 well HERP DERP you have access to ability gems too, try adapting and making your team strong. And wait and see till the game is out before making assumptions. Also im sure Capcom is not crying for losing you.
Wonder if we can just not equip Gems at all for the tourney scene and it should be fine. As for Online, its going to be crazy and yet to be seen if that would be a good thing or bad thing. Hopefully can make a lobby that states "no gems" and everything would be ok.
@114 Lupinko :D. What's your XBox tag? We can have a Capoeira battle vs... whatever it is you use.
If we kick up enough of a stink, they'll have no choice but to provide an option to not use it.
You know what..... you got balls capcom and I like that you have earned your money but (in Alan Rickman voice)Don't Disappoint Me! As an life time RPG fan I like the idea of slot based stat boosting I think it will be fun and you can customize however you want. Honestly if you let some casual beat you then the game isn't the problem its you. I don't plan on being a professional fighting game player but if I can hang with the dudes at my fight club that is all I need in terms of my own skill.
in all respect, i really do not like this whole 'gem' system. I understand it's for advanced players but they should allow the option to turn it off for those who obviously aren't pros and would just like to try out the game.
I mean at first I didn't like pandora but I liked how it was as if you were gambling because if you used it you as well could die and THAT seemed fine. But this just seems so... :/
lol games not out yet. loving this sense of entitlement. everyone gets.
don't get me wrong, i understand your cashcom pleas, but isn't this the same FGC that was raging you wanted DLC characters, not a disc based follow-up/update/potato for MVC3 [a game that you also hate, because it takes no skill and you can just x-factor]
what else are they to do. clearly you've sent capcom the signal that the best way to get your money is online over a long period of time
AMERICA! FCUK YEAH! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWS-Fo...
So many people crying like little babies (as always)..*rolls eyes* At least give it a chance before you bash it
Why not just outsource the game to BioWare or Bethesta if they wanna make a RPG?
This gem system seems like something along the lines of a RPG where you need to unlock and equip them.
"I have to get new underwear for Zangief so he can tank better"
"Only two more levels and I can use a mount for Rolento"
i like to think of it like pokemon...
you can has the same pokermon~...but their stats and
atks are different...it adds hype to the game, and
it'll be like having your own personal pokemon xD
only theyre full grown men / woman beating the crap
out of 1 another...
I predict a DLCwill become available that will enable you to turn off the gems later on.
This concept sounds like a huge gamble and Ono is really trying to cram it down our throats, like that'll make you like this feature if it's mandatory?
I wonder why it took this long to unveil such an "integral and important" feature if Ono describes it like the game would be unplayable without these gems. I hope this doesn't prove the saying that less is more, feature/mechanics-wise.
@166
I think they waited so long as a marketing ploy. First get people hyped about the gameplay footage and, then once they are sufficiently sucked in, spring this cash grab on them. They know they will lose some buyers, but the people who were already super stoked to buy the game will have a hard time losing their hype and will bite on the game.
Some of you lot are weird, its like:
1. You dont want to see Capcom make money that in turn will kill the fight game scene.
2. You don't want to see anything new / different yet in the early stages of SFxT it was the same people who were crying that it was just going to be like SF4
3. Whats the bet 99% of you complainers will buy and love the game about be like "omg i love the gems"
This is so reminiscent of when SSF4 was about to be released. Capcom are clever, even bad press is good press I suppose.
I'm looking forward to seeing the development :)
I think the main problem with the gems is that not all are there to begin with, and it sounds like you have to buy gems for DLC.
Reminds me of a trading card game, which is a terrible approach for the fighting game genre, and it will make tourneys for SFxT go very slowly due to gem customization.
So much hate, it's delicious. River of salty tears.
I'll see where this goes, not making any assumptions. Tournaments can still force people to play with standard gem sets, and as for online... lol, why bother? Play with friends with standard sets, or go for a challenge against people with top tier gems.
Now, some new characters please to blow away these haters.
I wish you cry babies would shut up. I know for a fact NONE of you have played ANY version of this game, so how can you say what sucks and doesn't? I'm saving the names of every person crying and I'm gonna repost them when the game comes out just so we can see who's on jock. The gem stuff MIGHT actually help YOUR weak scrubby selves compete against some super tier team, dummies.
Though it's still too early to tell (Seeing as I haven't played the game), this game reminds me of Yu-Gi-Oh...
You have to buy the most current builds and the most recent updated things to stay competitive in the game. At least, that's the impression I'm getting. Let's hope that it isn't that serious for casual players. I mean, really? A game that seems 90% for High Level Players (Which I'm sure a lot of us aren't) and 10% for casual players. What kind of party is this? Lol.
@#160
I'm right here, Idiot. You know what the Internet never seems to understand? Sometimes people get things wrong, hear things wrong. People make mistakes, just like in real life! A lot of people do everything in their power to gloss it over, make it seem like they're still right. Others pounce on someone the minute they make a mistake. And then a very small few admit they were wrong and say:
OK, so I got the turning the gems off part wrong. My mistake. I never said the gems OR the cards weren't going to be fun, Idiot.
@175
Youre an idiot. You prob think your some big shot, elite SF player to call everyone here a scrub. How do you know these ppl wernt at NY Comic Con playing the game? Exactly.
The one thing I hate more than a complainer, is a person who complains about the complainers. Just STFU and sit down.
@179
You just make me wonder....
if the one thing you hate more than a complainer is a person who complains about complainers and you said that while complaining about a complainer who're complaining about other people complaining.
It's amazing, isn't it?
Maybe the gems won't be paied DLC. Even if they do, they won't be used at tournament. At most, the default ones.
This is simple operational logic. How can EVO have players using the gems they bought on their consoles, all over the world? They're not even the same console in many cases.
It's impossible to have everybody using their custom, DLC-bought gems outside the default ones. Pre-order exclusives? Not gonna happen.
DLC is usually banned when affects gameplay. That's usual for characters, don't matter how ballanced they might be.
So tournaments are probably safe from this gimmick. Same with most serious online gameplay, cause why would most of us train in conditions not used in tournaments?
@all who go "give it a chance" and "wati till release" don't seem to realise that the gem system itself is not the (main) problem. the fact that a non-optional CORE MECHANISM is upgradable with money. you HAVE to pay for DLC gems or you won't be competetive. you missed the pre order gems and one of them is a "must use" gem? you're screwed.
THAT is why the community is in an uproar.
think of it this way: you can use lvl 2 x-factor right of the box, but to be able to use level 3 you have to go to the store and buy it seperately... fair huh?
@186
Yeah, but no one said that there will be a real difference in power between gems, they don't need to be necessarily better than each other, maybe they're just different.
If it ruins competition, people will just come out with "No items, Final Destination, Fox Only" or abandon the game entirely.
So.... just give it a chance, don't buy the game, or play it with amazing imaginary rules... at least, wait till we have a decent amount of information before jumping to any conclusions.
Weren't tourney's banning gems the day of the announcement? lol
https://twitter.com/#!/Yoshi_OnoChin <- you know what to do guys!
@187
what more information then "DLC gems" do you need? a split within the core mechanism between players is way beyond enough to know. capcom will suffer a massive image loss unless they CHANGE something:
1. make gems optional
2. don't make exclusive / DLC gems
3. make those dlc / preorder gems "joke" gems at best. (appearance effecting etc)
tbh when ae came out and no one was happy they spammed onos twitter and we got a free patch maybe if you all do something similar (less the death threats) he will see sense
also @roknin: "uh.. can we take this game back in time to about July and forget that everything (aside from 4-player tag matches because that's actually awesome) happened? PLEASE?"
good idea! let's support this! the damage is done, but at least it can be lessened.
That said im getting kind of annoyed at these interviewers and most commentators..
1. the game isn't even out yet and everyones asking for FREAKING DLC ALREADYY WHYY!?!?! We have so much content to still explore (Or get since its not even out yet) shut up about new characters lol.
2. People need to stop thinking SF4 needs more characters, and that character DLC was planned for a free update. There are what 40-ish characters in already? more then enough to pick from. Im sure most of the ones asking dont even know how to play more than 2-3 of those.
To be honest, to me the whole gem stuff sounds really really wack. But maybe it'll turn out well. What I don't agree with is gems not being all available from the start, and some that we'll have to pay and stuff. Everybody should have access to the same gems.
I am really hoping for a game that'll be my main game for a long time and that I'll take more seriously. I was hoping for SFxT to be that game, but it's less and less likely. First the magic series (whatever I can deal with that, if links can get you bigger dmg), then the fact that you lose when one character is down. Then too many mechanics for nothing (cross assault being that worst).
I feel like the most legendary games are simple and clean, but nowadays they think they need to go crazy with innovations to make a good game. And now the imposed gems. To make it competitive (kinda) all gems should be available to everyone for free (ideally from the start). It's a fighting game, not Star Wars the card game :P
I might try kof13 then, or go back to BB when Extend comes out. That is if SFxT turns out as goofy as it seems.
Look Model M, I never said I was a "big shot" and don't claim to be. But one thing I've noticed about this community is how fickle it is and how much people on HERE cry about stuff they haven't even touched. I spoke to people who DID play it at NYCC and they said the gems aren't bad or broken. I also hate people who complain about crap and then hop all on it's jock afterwards like nobody will notice. Capcom will never please anybody and rather than being grateful for the fact that they are pumping out games so EVO isn't full of 10 year old games, y'all still wanna cry.
Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 is looking better than this game, to be quite honest. If this game continues to look like just one big cauldron of crazy, "innovative" ideas, then UMvC3 is going to blow it right out of the water.
Based on what I've seen thus far, it looks like Vergil and Dante are going to be the only tag team I take into a fight. I'm hoping that when SFxT comes out, I'll be eating these words.
So how many of you people panicking actually listened to the interview? Not once was it stated that the DLC gems will better than the ones you can get within the game. All you cry babies are getting worked up without knowing all of the details, and that's sad. I'm wary of the gem system as well since I feel like it is a completely unnecessary addition to the game, but god damn some of you are sh*tting yourselves as if its the end of the world. Is it that hard to wait for more information before passing judgment and giving up on the game completely?
Besides, they already said that gems like Auto-Block come with a cost that prevents them from being abused or overpowered. For example, the cost for that one in particular being that it takes away meter every time it initiates. I for one can't wait to fight scrubs that use Auto-Block and take away all of their meter because they don't know how to block normally and have to rely on a crutch to do it for them.
Of course, readily available information like that is too inconvenient for some of you. Better to just whine and moan than to try and put your fears to rest with info, right?
-_-
even if offline tourneys could ban or tell people not to use em. Online is gonna be a different story
I wonder if "passive" gems are the "increased chance" to do x amount of damage or build additional meter or take less damage type things you see in rpgs. Interesting but I wonder if it will be "too" random.
Would suck to have your additional damage come on a jab and theirs on an ultra; assuming that's what passive gems are. We won't know till they show us
@SnakeX
just shows that you have no clue. it doesnt matter if they turn out to be better / worse - the fact alone that you don't have access the the WHOLE mechanism is the reason for the uproar.
to have more options for the SAME fighter then the opponent is simply against everything a beat em up stands for.
This game is going to fail so hard. Capcom is going to have to remake it without gems. SFxT without Gems edition.
@206
It would be like a game of Chess with one player not having access to the Knight, because he costs money as a DLC or is an exclusive DLC.
As long as they make certain gems not available to use during ranked matches then everything will be fine. The autoblock and auto throw defend among other similar gems should not be allowed in ranked matches. Obviously he says they are for beginners but that doesn't mean gems like that couldn't be abused by players.
If the gems simply change minor mechanics or alter a move slightly then that could end up being quite nice. Their concept is sound. You get a Ryu Vs. Ryu mirror and one of them has a Dragon Punch that has a slightly further range and a bit faster dash speed vs. a Ryu with a faster fireball with some invincibility frames added to the casting of it.
Those are not perfect examples but you get my point. Ryu could be played completely differently (more than normaal) based on the system which is nice.
But if the beginner gems are allowed in rated matches then it would be a huge mistake. Obviously, offline tournaments could ban the use of some gems or all if needed but that doesn't help online at all.
@197 how is it that the people you talked to were able to give their opinion on builds that weren't there: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PAKwTM...
As much as I love the idea of the gem system, and would most likely would have always used it, I still can't agree to not being able to turn them off. In fact, I'm still not convinced that you can't choose not to use them, I mean, wasn't that what they did for all the demos of this game thus far?
But this is still a minor complaint compared to having to purchase gems or anything that directly affects gameplay. If you buy the game, you should be able to play the game and all of its contents.
@206
You do have access to the whole mechanism. DLC gems are just an addition to that mechanism. And again, it was stated that the DLC gems will not be explicitly better than the ones you can unlock.
@210
That's not how it works. That is implying that you'd be at an explicit disadvantage because you didn't buy DLC, which, again, we are already being told that this is not the case. The fact of the matter is that you can only use a small number of the gems you collect anyway, so it's pointless to hoard gems and get every single one available unless you feel that you're actually going to use them.
To use your example, it's like having the knight piece, but then also having another knight piece that you can use instead of the one you already have.
@all who think the auto-block gem can be "outpoked and frametraped" or who think it's worse:
BossDynamite, you said "The gem stuff MIGHT actually help YOUR weak scrubby selves compete against some super tier team, dummies." Are you saying the super tier team is played by someone who knows what they're doing or just another "scrub"?
First I am not assuming anything about tiers at this point so I'm not even remotely talking about that, I'm just using the assumption you made to make an argument.
Second both people fighting have the same gems how does your statement hold water? Your statement only works if someone purposefully uses gems that give no advantage to their team (if possible, I'm not saying this is true) or the "super tier team" can turn off their gems.
It's like you saying "if two people have guns it's the only way for the person with no shooting experience ("scrubs" as you say) to compete against a sniper ("super tier team"). That only works if the sniper has a weapon other than a gun or a clunky and hard to use gun because even just a regular gun in a sniper's hands is deadlier than a gun in the scrub's hands.
So just wondering what you meant cause what you're saying is nonsense unless you're saying both players are scrubs.
@122
Discussing video games and grownups just doesn't fit together. I play games a lot and if I ever said I was talking grown up business about a video game I'd get punched in the face.
If this game replaces AE or MvC3 Capcom is finished.
yooo capcom we dont want gem system remove it or we wont buy your game. and why are you selling gems as dlc? do we have to pay shoryuken and hadoken as dlc in the future too? wow seriously crapcom
I can't say what the gem system is going to play like because I haven't tried it. I can say that I don't like having to pay more to get certain gems that are a part of a mandatory core system to the game. I will no longer buy this game on day 1. I will wait to see how this pans out before making a decision.
Let's say 20 different Gem that give us 15,504 combinaisons.
Let's say only 2% of these combinaison are viable and 310 remain.
40 Characters that give us 12,403 differents characters
=>76,913,484 match ups.
Good luck Capcom balancing that.
And well the pay to get better ruins the game entirely.
Well done Capcom trashing your game in no time.
The problem for me is this actually goes against casual gamers.People who just want to have a batch of casual games in their spare time don't want to spend hours experimenting to find, the most effective gem combinations.
so far the vast majority of fans dont like this gem crap so to me its simple. THose same fans that dont like it(myself included) should just NOT buy the game, dont give capcom the benefit of the doubt and send them a real message by not puting up the 60 plus tax to get the game.
On march 6 i believe that mass effect 3 is launching, get that instead.
Capcom, It's not too late to take a page out of UMVC3's book, and do a "H&H" type of thing. Those who are hopeful of the gem system (which is very very few) will be happy, as well as those who aren't feeling the idea (Like myself). Everyone wins!
But I have a feeling they're going to release the game as is, and once they realize the majority was right in their doubt, they'll have a mode to disable the gem system in SSFxTK
@231
they wont allow a disable gems mode because capcom wants to push it so they can sell u better gems as dlc later on. Seriously the whole dlc crap is out of freaking control, its not longer about adding new content and keeping a game fresh, its about leaving things out of the game and forceing u to pay for it.
@233 It's not a mode dumba**. Learn to read before you utter anymore trash.
@228
In terms of "Game Balance" that's the best point that's been made. They shouldn't try to fool themselves, or us, to believe there is any way to balance a feature such as this.
The game will have Top Tier characters, even without Gems. Now throw on 5 power/stamina boosting Gems and you've got yourself a team lol!
Oh well, I've switched my mindset from "completive fighter" to "Casual Relax", and everything is easier to swallow that way.
I'll buy this to Jam on it. It'll be loads of fun. But my main focus will remain on AE.
@SnakeX they say it wont be better but just like chars there will be good ones and bad ones people with more choise will be at an advantage.
You guys don't see the whole picture its like this. Gem System breaks the game, Ono jumps and says "Oh sorry a million times...we didn't think people will exploit this system in a such a short time...me FIX". Weeks later on Ono's twitter SF x Tk : No Gem Edition + more playable characters DLC and the Saga Continues !
It seems Capcom wants casual and tournament level players to compete on an equal level. I'm sure there will be many factors that play into how gems function.
1) How many of the same gem can you equip.
2) Whether gems are used once per round/per match.
3) *Contradicts 1* Can you only equip one gem per type at a time. (ex. Strength, Defense, etc).
4) Whether there's an option to select specific gems to turn off in tournament or competitive play (Kinda like the option to ban Gill in 3S during online matches).
The next step is for Capcom to be clear about what to specifically expect from gems. I think it's important for everyone to know the true uses so many don't jump to conclusions.
The cats who are "Pro-Gem" fail to understand what us "Anti-Gem" cats are trying to say - It's not about what the gems can/can't do - It's the fact that there are exclusive gems that you pay for, that MUST be a million times more effective than the default gems, as they cost money.
Now If my broke a$$ is playing a mirror Cammy/Nina, with an opponent who's not a broke a$$ - the odds are against me because he/she got them DLCious gems! I have to spend money in order to stay competitive? I think that's pretty weak. That's why most "anti-gem" cats are "anti-gem"...
But like many "Pro-gem" cats have stated..."You don't like? You don't buy!" - Demonoid here I come...
@63, @70, & @84:
I agree. At this point, I'm just gonna have to say, "screw it" & wait for Tekken x Street Fighter. Maybe THAT will turn out to be better. I won't be buying this title until it hits like, $20 or $30 now.
Capcom has screwed up a very good thing.
Q80Warlock makes a great point for example see the 4th iteration of street fighter 4 (AE2012) and UMVC3 to be released less than a year after MVC3.
A lot of people have already predicted the Super SFxT "No Gems Version" and some people have done the math about the match ups and possibilities of the limits to what the devs at Capcom can do to maintain balance. I also think there will be a second "more balanced SFxT" game not far into the future. I'm not buying this game, my brother is, so Capcom's not getting my money on this.
I still think this is a huge gamble and Capcom is looking to see how consumers will use their money if at all on this new cross over and gem system. I commend them on trying something new but it all just feels odd.
I said from Day one I wasn't getting this game and waiting on Tekken X because it will be a nice change of pace...but this gem system sounds really cool!!! Oh who the hell am I trolling I'm still not getting this.....
I seriously can't wait for this game to come out, succeed in proving the doubters wrong. It's funny how you all cry about this when MVC3 IS BASICALLY GETTING THE SAME CRAP IN HEROES N HERALDS!!!! WTF?!
Here's a solution for all of us.If Ono wants us to buy gems in order to be competitive online,then we should go on twitter and tell him one of the following:
A.Either we change his mind and add in a on/off option for the gems
B.Add in a feature where we can all be rewarded with gems by doing accomplishments.
Or C.Make the system a seperated mode like Heroes and Heralds.
That,or they should remove the system completely.They listened to us before about removing Ultras from SFxT.So we should do the same with the gem system.
@251 - No offense but if you think a bit of whining is going to remove what they consider a core mechanic of the game this far into development, you're delusional. They're clearly trying to push this gem system thing, so either try it out and judge for yourself or don't buy it. Simple as that
@252 I wasn't even whining,to begin with.I was just trying to give a simple solution to everyone that is complaining about the system.
@Lyn
Soul Caliber is played tourny wise. It may not have a huge tourny following then LEts say MvC or SF, but it is still pretty big. Just because a game isn't tourny viable doesn't make it irrelevant. Honestly from the looks of things. the only people who are complaining only wants this game tourny viable and nothing else.
this game is definitely a Gamefly rental now.... What a
Disappointment
I like how all you guys complain about the game and then you'll end up buying it which is why they still make money. Especially all you idiots who always buy the DLC. Everytime I go onilne, I see some sort of DLC...
