SENTINEL: SCANNING: SODIUM LEVELS RISING!
PS: I for one, welcome X-factor, I mean gems.)
(Auto-Pick-Capcom-Character-to-beat-Tekken-character gem)
Yea I figured, as long as the system is balanced im fine. And as long as some gems won't give a stupid advantage to newer players (Which I don't necc. mind, but I feel it's a bad way to encourage learning the mechanism of the game and gives bad habits)
Its like tournament banning use of X-factor activation or some ish. but eh, ill see, ill wait and see. BABUDEEEBABUDAA
Auto-block gem uses meter. Its going to be as viable as wake-up ultras. Meaning a lot of people on this site will use it but actual players won't.
And nobody listened when I said competitive play is a joke with modern fighting games. Oh well, moving the f on...
Oh well, I'm fine with that.
And everyone who is complaining about it, is really salty lol. But seriously, customization in SF x Tekken Tournaments: endless possibilities for the players.
Comparison with X-factor doesn't stand: you don't pay extra money for it, everyone has access to X-factor in every match.
Nothing is wrong with gem system as long as any player has access to all of them without having to pay extra money.
They chose the worst possible thing (gameplay core, not even characters) to charge for money.
@ #13
You just don't pick gems before starting, that's how.
Still puzzles me why people hate it without seeing\trying it properly.
lol @ #9
People have a right to be mad about this considering Capcom in recent years, this CORE MECHANIC is basically favoring people who spend REAL money on these gems to have an advantage over those who might be better than them.
Is it tactical, sure, Is it fun, probably. But it makes the game seem less about actual skill and more about artificially making yourself better than others.
@15: ''You just don't pick gems before starting, that's how.''
Oh wow...So pretty much you're forced to use them and play with them.
And inb4 ''If you dont like it dont buy the game!..'' or ''If you dont like it dont pick Gems!'' that would be giving myself a stupid disadvantage. n_n
I mean if they balance it its fine..Auto-block/teching no matter how bad it might be in the end shoulda been something never made and not encouraged though ;\.
Hey Capcom, look at Arc System Works and SNK, that's how you make a real fighting game. Just too bad they can't get as much attention compared to anything with Capcom's brand on it.
o well, ill wait till sf5, if it ever comes. The return of grooves/ism's? Yes please. But this gem crap, seriously man, give me a break.
ANd to the people talking about auto block really arent thinking about how it will be used. FOr a def player it gives them insurance and it will negate pandora mode(it sucks to begin with) entirely. Honestly think about it, why in the hell have auto block to begin with, how about auto combo, or auto mix up. How about auto play so i dont even have to touch the dam controls. If capcom keeps with the nonsense the fighting games will fade away again.

So what was the word on customization? The poor audio didn't allow for the statement to clearly come through.
- Plug in sticks
- Mash through characters to get into game
- Perform button check, apply mappings. P2 does this also
- Quit to character select
- Select character 1, apply gem settings
- Select character 2, apply gem settings (P2 does this also)
- Enter game
- Fight
- If a player loses, are they permitted to change team members, ergo perhaps reworking gem balance? if so, go back to step 3, repeat. Ack.
Running SFxT tournies is going to be a very drawn out process unless the gem selection can be very quickly applied. Here's hoping Capcom finally get around to fixing their awful button config options too, because right now it is very time expensive for tournament organisers and participants. Button config + char select + gem select + gem customisation better be a swift process in this game if they expect organisers to embrace it without cringing.
remember PDP with their $10000 pot that justin wong robbed?
Capcom will hold tournaments now? yeah that will be the day
was anyone else annoyed by the guy breathing SUPER heavily... i was like dude stfu i cant hear the interview. so i turned off sound and put captions on. much more lulzy.
In other interviews Ono said they lost a lot of the casuals and this was another way to get them interested. I laugh at the idea that this mode is going to bring in casuals. This game is already a convoluted mess. Good luck explaining it to casuals even before Pandora and this. This is only going to make it more of a mess. SFIV's easier to explain to newbies than this.
umm. you might not have to pay for gems all of the 45 you get off the bat for pre ordering the collectores edition may be unlocked in the game from certain criteria hopefully im not wrong cuz i really dont want to buy a whole bunch of things cuz i probally will cuz apparently im a tool but maybe not
seriously, people still complaining about auto block gem.
It takes a meter when it activates. Jesus. If you guys can't see the downfall of that then you have zero understanding of fighting games.
Lets say that P1 knows that P2 has the auto block gem... Even at intermediate level play this is how it's gonna turn out.
P1: Throws out a jab seeing that P2 has meter.
P2: Either takes the hit, which leads into a chain or blocks it consuming 1 of his 3 meters.
P1: Does this every time P2 has any meter
P2: is left without meter for the entire fight as P1 can dictate when P2s meter gets used.
Auto block is the WORST gem idea I've ever heard of. LOL at anyone who even thinks for a moment it's broken. People who are saying this REALLY do not have a mind for fighting games.
PS I do like the respect they are giving each other lol. Ono is always looking at the guy even when the translator is talking, and they are both nodding when they talk even though they dont have a clue.
@25: Dont get your hopes up, a lot were not that satisfied with SF4, but that might be the last relatively none completely casual friendly, competitive fighter CC makes. This is the future man.
if it's gonna be in tournaments your obviously gonna hand pick gems as standard for gameplay. You can just use the standard or most basic gems for players to choose then leave out the DLC gems. There is nothing wrong with that. They do that in SMB tournaments
so this would be no different.It will make the game interesting.
These tournaments get stale after awhile because every character is not viable and by the 6th month from release everyone is using the most powerful character. With the Gems it changes things. If you want
the same boring old tournaments play UMvC3 or SSFIV. Let SFxT stand as it is meant to be played, why make SFxT play like SSFIV, does'nt make any sense? Imagine if UMvC3 still played like MvC2? Yuck.
Capcom doesn't sponsor tournaments lol. If Capcom was like Valve sponsoring million dollar tournaments for their games, I would be worried, but they dont. All of it is run by TO's who will decide whether gems are banned or not.
And they will be if you have to pay for them.
@Graphf imagin the auto-block gem in sf4. you block low and tech late and AVOID EVERY vortex game on wakeup altogether. you just take a dump on the top tier cast.
further you fail to see that the auto gem ONLY blocks WHEN YOU WOULD BE ABLE TO, that means if you press a button and get coutnerhit or whiff a special and get hit during recovey it won't work. it's VERY rare to get hit without doing anything, thus it will rarely ever block a hit when you don't want to, but on wakeup 1/3 bar in a game where you build meter like hell means NOTHING if you avoid any guessing game altogether. it doesn'T even consume all the time, you try to block like always but you simply have a AUTO FAIL-SAFE FUNCTION that corrects your errors in the backhand. and with the abc-chain system, any hit leads to massive damage, which you just prevent.
I've never seen so many people afraid of change or something different. Reminds of old people who are afraid to learn how to use computers and adapt to the new technological world.
If anything, these gems add a ton more strategy and layers to the fighting genre. Trying to figure out what gem combos will be effective against the opponent's gem combos might be half the battle on top of skill with the character itself. Gems add depth.
As long as it isn't some big cash grab, which it might be since they keep comparing it to Magic the Gathering (a huge cash grab), I am fine with this system. Sounds fun and different. Not every fighting game has to be the same recycled format over and over again.
@37: Youre thinking to small though, this might make certain chars to OP as well and might make other chars not that viable still.
You dont think there isn't gonna be one build that's clearly above all others for a certain character after a month or two? Everyone might pick the same Gem combinations for like a Sagat maybe, then we get this whole cycle all over again. Gems might change gamestyles a little, but Sagat will still be Sagat..Dhalsim will still not be a rushdown char.
Altho once again if its done well (Which is really hard to do/vision for the future of the fighter/character/balance) its perfect.
Imagine Zangief with 40% damage boost and he does his super art. XD
Screw all of This other nonsense, make darkstalkers 4 already. Everyone says they're FG fans and don't even know that vampire savior is easily one of the best fighters of all time.
@ 46 i bet that situation with pandora mode will kill on the first german suplex part of zangiefs ultra.
@48 lol not only from that situation but from the 3 power up gems.
@32 EG2..
Yeah, the operative word you used there is CONVOLUTED mess. I agree with you. At this point, with all these added game mechanics and gameplay elements that CAPCOM is throwing into this game, I am not sure if they are inviting more casual players in or alienating them more. Even to the hardcore group of players, these mechanics and robust features of the game might seem a little too over the top. Is capcom turning this game into a competitive fighting game or a party fighting game? We'll just have to wait and see.
i want a gem that makes one frame links super easy to do
@53
Considering he JUST said in another interview.. He wants this to be a Party Game.
More specifically speaking, he wants it to be like Super Smash Bros. where it's intentionally a party game but at some later time can turn into a hardcore monster with the proper time placed into it.
This gem thing more than likely won't be in tourneys unless EVERYONE has access to all gems and even so; releasing them as DLC makes it only that much more likely that gems won't be allowed.
Capcom has no say in whether we use gems or not.. I honestly don't believe anyone from Capcom would say "Tourneys will use them".
@ #56
Want it to be a part of the game? Cool, make the gems available for everyone.
Btw I lol'd too at "Capcom tourneys won't ban gems". What are Capcom tourneys anyway? Like anyone cares about that.
Still, the system looked interesting before the whole DLC/priced sh*tstorm came. Hopefully the step back from this retardedness and make them available for everybody. Otherwise, the community will just adapt and leave this piece of sh*t behind.
@ #58
In case you're missing the thing, it's not about what the gems do. Actually, that's interesting, because stuff like moves doing more damage, giving a character more health or moves having less frames have the potential to add depth to the game.
Crap like auto-block or auto-tech won't matter, because you can kill opponent's meter with it.
The problem lies in the fact that not everyone will have access without paying more bucks, and the thing is gonna be a problem also for tourneys. Besides, this is assuming they won't be retailer-specific (meaning, you will be able to buy the extra gems on day one) for too long, a case in which they should really fire whoever came up with this plan.
@ 56 Lyn...
Oh, I didn't watch that interview with Ono. But, i kinda got the feeling already that with all these modes and game mechanics and add on elements to the game, that Capcom is aiming for this to be a party game in the vein of SSBM.
Personally, after all these reveals and announcements to the game, I am now taking a wait and see approach. But nah, I wasn't too excited about this game in the first place.
All i want to see is the a game capable of broadcasting a tournament through the console, can you imagine watching a tournament from anywhere in the world in crisp quality on your own console at home!!!?
Surely this is the next step in fighting game tournaments, SOMEONE PLEASE MAKE THIS HAPPEN! I AM WILLING TO PAY!
Ono acts like such a child. :3
Anyway, if Capcom wants to make this a party game, that fine. However, he obviously not gonna reach Smash Bros. level. Not just for the characters but for the gameplay and the controls. With Smash Brothers, literally anyone can play, since you only had two buttons and a block button, and special moves came out with just the tilt of the stick and a button. People that grew up with Street Fighter are gonna know how to do SRK motions and 360s with no problem, but for those who haven't, it's more steeper of a learning curve. Just wait till you mention frame data to them.
U know it just hit me.
If capcom wanted to do a game all about gems powering u up why didnt they just reboot POWER STONE instead of killing a game that should have been a hardcore fighting fans dream?
If the gems are varied and balanced, it sounds like a wonderful thing to have. Different gem setups for different playstyles sounds like it could inject some longevity into this game.
Besides, gems that add certain properties is a bit like CvS grooves in its customization.
@68
auto block/auto tech, also dont forget that the baby mode techs and short cuts are still in the game.
Its wonderful now?
@66
what learning curve? Fireball motions are easy, charge moves are easy. Dragon punch is akward but after a week(or a 2 min tutorial) u can do them. THe only thing thats hard to do is standing 360/720 and if thats such a big problem change it to how it was in hdr(half circle back and forward).
All this crap about new/casual players is trash. Why rape the game just to late someone play it for 10 mins at best buy?
As Sun Tzu would say. "The one who controls the most resources will have the advantage in the Art of War."
The more money you have the bigger advantage you will have in SFvT gem combat.
I already wasn't interested in this game, and this made it worse. It went from a game I'm not getting and just watching on streams. To a game I'm not getting or watching on streams.
I was listening to this through headphones and eww! that camera mans heavy breathing freaks me out!!!! I can't listen to this....
@32
Lol, I agree big time! Try to explain this game to a casual player and they'll run screaming with smoke coming out of there ears!
So far we've got:
Tekken specific combos
Link Combos
ABC combos,
ABC Launchers,
specials,
charge specials, charge ultras,
charge cross ultras,
cross assult tag combo,
level 2 charge cancel causing next move to be a counter hit,
tag cancel,
Combo breaker reversal,
pandora mode,
and now Jems?
That doesn't even take into account all of the built in properties of every character in the game!
Have fun casuals lol.
R.I.P SFXT the people hath spoken lol but seriously Capcom WTF i think i need to activate a HYPE GEM
All I see from any topic involving gems is whining and moaning from the so called "fighting game community".
@77
The major problem is that they are releasing "core mechanics" in bundles when it should be released altogether.
Then to add fuel to the fire; there will be a 9/10 chance that whatever Gem or thing you should have within the game will be up for purchase on the market which auto-matically pins fans against the wall if they were to take the game seriously.
It's basically telling everyone "If you want the best stuff, you gotta pay more" when that should NEVER be the case when trying to nourish yourself in a fighting game.
To sum it up: Take this scenario.
Special Edition Gems comes with:
"Attack Power +50 for 15 seconds when health is 30% or less."
"Super and Cross Arts does Half damage" - Passive Gem
Now this is what you get if you just buy the regular game:
"Attack Power +10 for 20 seconds" - Activate by X
"Defense +10" - Passive
You can see the difference in between the levels of gems and Paying nearly 100$ for Special Edition will have something along those lines.
It's unfair for the competitive side which is why Sodium levels are two notches from Wendy's
lol @materia
@69
Scrub gems. Advanced players wont be using those, coz they'd know how to block and tech for themselves and would rather spend the slot on something that increases their offensive options.
I know i'd hate it if the game chose to waste one of my meters to block a random poke.
You mean tournament players might actually have to learn to adapt and metagame rather than memorizing match ups?! ABSURD!
In all seriousness though, I can see setting gems to be a big pain in the ass in a tournament setting.
It's good they're sticking to their guns on this one to encourage it, but if they wanted this to be a tournament game with some 'casual' elements this might not be the best call at least as far as pre-match set up time is concerned.
Stop bitching about Gems being unbalanced when 99% of you haven't even tried teh game yet. To those who are saying that Gems son't be used in tournaments because some of them are DLC, look at Mortal Kombat. MK has DLC characters and they're all allowed in tournaments as far as I know.
Street Fighter x Tekken sounds more like Street Fighter x World of Warcraft
gems = armor???
zUkUu
lol dude 1st - it consumes meter to use
2nd - at even intermediate play people will just set up baits and traps in force the character using the gem to expend meter unwillingly.
I'll let you think about this on your own. I can think of about 5 to 6 different set ups where the person using the gem would never have any meter to use ever. LOL. I hope i see people online using it. I can't wait to play people like you.
More like big part to make the game fail.
