With Street Fighter X Tekken we were actually trying to balance around the gems with the expectation that they'll be used. In Heroes and Heralds mode we're just going nuts so there's all sorts of insane stuff. We saw some parrying that's possible, invisibility those were just a few things shown in the trailer. It gets way nuttier than that in heroes and heralds mode, where you can just throw balance and sanity to the wind completely. So it's more of a relaxed have fun mode in our view, the gems are actually quite balanced.

what are you talking about. everyone who gets the game has 36 gems from the get go, pre-orders get 9 extra, and you can only put 5 on at a time. seems to me there is literally no way to have less than someone else, unless of course you just didn't put them on.
@4
He is talking about quality. Those 9 extra gems allows the person with them to make more combinations, which may be more effective, than the person with only the default gems. Its the same thing with card games like Magic the Gathering, the person with more cards that the other person doesn't have can make better decks.
"As long as it's fair for everybody, and everybody has access to the same tools, I think it'll be great."
But Mr. Killian, what about all these DLC and preorder exclusive gems? How is that giving people access to the same tools? I'd like to believe Capcom knows what they're doing with this. But it seems to get less and less likely.
Can you just wait and see? we dont even know how exactly the system works, and they have said they are trying to balance it. Have a little faith fgs. You ar already complaining for gems you know nothing about, maybe the collector s edition are gems that are weaker than the others but are fun to use (for casual use). You don't know and I don't know, so please wait to have more info before you begin to cry and whine.
I honestly might not waste my time on cross tekken unless it gets super popular
There are a ton of silly assumptions being made, here.
The biggest fallacy being that the extra gems are in any way, shape, or form, exclusive to pre-orders. It's pretty clear from the pre-order image that it's just a bonus "starter pack" of 9 of each of the primary "base" gems that were exhibited in the trailer: Those that boost a certain attribute after certain criteria are met in battle. It's INCREDIBLY unlikely that any of those 5 gem-types are unobtainable in game. If they were passive support gems, I'd understand why one might think that these gems are special in any fashion. But it's not so.
Think before you explode in fury at the words "pre-order bonus".
@4
You only get 36 gems to start with if you get the Special Edition, and it specifically mentions one of the packs is 'S.E Exclusive'. Does paying extra to win sound fair to you?
It sounds like there are a set number of default gems that come with the game, free for everyone.
Those will be the default gems for tourneys and what ever standardized events people want to run.
Sounds simple to me.
But, hey, why not wait until we know what we're talking about before we bring out the torches and pitchforks?
I think everyone complaining about the Gems really needs to just chill and wait until we get more and concise info on it and then judge it, instead of rushing to make these snap judgement calls based on very little info. I mean, did anyone really have an accurate enough idea of what to fully expect SF4 was gonna be like after Focus Attacks and FADCing was first revealed? Did people freak out about that too?
The exclusive gems? For all we know they're just as #10 suggests, purely cosmetic. Like say a set of gems that give your characters different colored aura's so they can glow like E.Ryu and Oni. Or anything else just as frivolous<sp?>.
So I'll say it again, just chill people. There simply is not enough info known at this time to accurately judge it, one way or the other.
*Wonders if Alpha 3 and it's -Ism's were met with the same level of hostility*
Dear god, they should NEVER say something is unbalanced.
In the end it doesn't matter because this is a completely different mode and has no bearings on other modes like standard online play, but still. Never utter "unbalanced" around fighting game players!
Street fighter X tekken balanced? that's impossible!!! how capcom going to bleed out pockets by making a balanced game right off the bat?!?! I expect this game to have many many many flaws... then 6 months later Super or Ultimate edition.then will SFxtekken be balance?...... heavens no!! look for AE 3 months later then Turbo edition before they have this game up to par
you mean the cross arts pack? until we see exactly what each gem does, there's no way to tell. it is up to a persons play style to determine which gems are best for them. unless those extra gems are reducing the cost of meter, i feel many people will opt for power and speed. win the game as quickly as possible.
This was a pretty fun interview.
Trolling makes the internet go round...
(So the CARD system is UNBALANCED, and no one was salty.
BUT
the GEM system is BALANCED, and EVERYONE was salty
hmm.....interesting)
Balanced or not Balanced, the fact that Heroes and Heralds exists and that it has Online makes it worthwhile and it will be awesome and fun!
Also, you guys notice how some cards have character portaits of special characters right? One of which is Roll from TvC, and another being said to be howard the duck.
Watch Capcom be trolls and make one of the most cheapest cards be Megaman X. I wouldnt be suprised if they did.
@30 no one cares that the card system is unbalanced because it is an extra mode, not a part of the main gameplay. That's like someone getting upset that the barrel bonus stage in SF4 isn't an actual stage, where barrels fall on your head. The gem system is an integral part of the actual gameplay, and as it stands right now, people are upset because there is no way in hell it will be balanced when they are releasing gems through DLC, and pre-orders. So you pay more, and you have an edge on people? Ya, even COD doesn't do that. Not to mention the entire gem thing is stupid to begin with. The reward for hitting somebody should be the fact that you are hitting someone, and able to combo them. Not some stupid 30-50% damage increase. This is another comeback mechanic in disguise. That makes 3 for SFxT now.
Capcom is literally just throwing every single idea they have into this game, and are going to wait and see which ones people like, and don't like, and then use that in later games.
(In multiplayer games, you don't release 'paid for' content that gives you an advantage. With that being said, if you've ever PREORDERED ANYTHING else, you'd know pre-release stuff is just for shiz and giggles.
EX: 1 gem turns your character purple, another makes your characters permenately look like they're in Pandora mode.
In short, the world hasn't ended, so calm it downnnnn)
#33 Hakansoilbarrel
Or you just take whatever gems happen to be exclusive (if any) and ban them. Simple as that.
That said however, if there are more than 45 gems all together in the game, I imagine setting up your characters in tournaments is going to be a pain in the ass.
@30
how do u balance an auto block/auto tech gem?
Seriously man, its trash. There better be a mode without that crap but even then i wont waste time with this game. Time to just wait for sf5/cvs3 and those aint comeing till next gen consoles.
CAPCOM'S FUTURE GAME LINE-UP
-Darkstalkers - Desired. And can't be announced as "approved" until the team has at least a year-and-a-half of development to show off.
- SFXT II - Ten more characters, Balancing and stages. Might be released as DLC instead over time.
- SFIV ver.2013 - two new characters, one new stage. $10 DLC
- NintendoXCapcom - Benefits Nintendo needing hardcore games and Cap being one of their longest 3rd party supporter. Launch game for Wii2. Plays like Volt but prettier and bigger.
- Volt for Android: Semi-announced with the Nokia announcement
- Brand new fighter for iOS and Android. Most likely port.
- New fighting series being planned. Not anywhere near ready. (Now is the best time for Cap to use the trend to build a new IP but first they're trying to make enough money off or their existing before going out with one final new series.)
How do I know all this? Seth's eyes! And body language.
@36
You balance gems like auto-tech by not being a trash player. Those gems are crutchs for new players. So when you play with a new guy he can use auto-tech to learn footsies. A good player who doesn't need a handicap now has an extra gem slot over their opponent to beast with. So basically, use a crutch if you need it, but if your good, you have more options and space to equip and beast with.
You think Mago's using auto-tech? Get real. He's adding meter or damage to make his character as beast as possible.
@36
Auto-Block apparently takes 1/3 of your Meter as a trade off. I don't like the idea of these Gems, but that seems pretty good.
Anyone who relies too heavy on Auto-Block Gems, just do individual pokes to drain the hell out their Meter and then go for it.
I can see people using Auto-Tech/Auto-Block and Meter+ Gem builds to keep their Meter up.
What am I talking about, I don't like this mechanic.
Autoblock just disables ANY oki game. you just block low and late tech and have the game to backe up crossups and overheads and you avoid EVERYTHING.
also, if you "run" into a poke it doesn't drain anything since the gem only blocks when you'd be able to do so (NOT during startup or recovery). and seeing the ABC chain combo system of sfxt, ANY hit can lead into HUGE damage, which the gem prevents. and in a game where you build meter THAT fast (not to mention meter building boosting gems) 1 bar means nearly nothing.
@40 no. Play Tekken or Volt and you'll see auto-block is not the end all. Those games default block mid/high unless you press ANYTHING.
Walk forward get hit. Press a button, get hit. Jump, get hit. Auto-block is actually a really minor thing that is just play preference and not anything that'll break the game. Really, don't worry.
@41 in tekken the wakeup game is way different, also you're susceptible to low attacks as mentioned. but the auto-block gem BLOCKS EVERYTHING, even if you walk.
the main issue lies in the wakeup game. let gouki go fancy on you, you just block low and let the game block the rest for you. you just avoid it completely.
@42 How do you know it block everything? Even on walk.
SO he said they wanted to balance it, "this guys has more (exclusive) gems then me"
so, i want to beleive that, but with all that speacial edtion+best buy (or any other of the kind)+ pre order stuf, it seems some will have advantages, and i think they were exclusive?
unless they "suck" or you end up having them anyway, it wont be balanced.
Gems can be balanced i beleive, and this time im trusting them, more times then one that fans were angered or trolling of a new gimmick or something, that it wont be good or whatnot, and it ends up being great.
think X-Fact- sorry... bad example.
I think people are overrating autoblock. Sure, you can block mixups but isn't it better to go for a reversal (i.e. Shoryuken) and spend the meter to tag for combo afterwards? If you're good enough to not need to autoblock, then you'll have an extra meter and likely even more since you're on the offensive. Since, you're that good, you should be able to open up a player that can't block easily. A good players would have been able to block it 90% of the time. Play to win because you're good and not because the other player is bad.
so making a weak oki and getting hit by a shoryuken is not due to the opponent making an error and being "bad"? lol you just rebuted your own point.
you don't need to take any risk with that gem, seeing you can have 5 gems it's not even hard to pick it up JUST IN CASE (ofc you still play normally, but's it's an automatic lifesaver) without sacrificing too much.
If you have the option to turn invisible.... become invincible to projectiles... and give all of your characters/assists super armor... Why would you ever think that Balance would come into play? Thats why Its an entirely different MODE. something to mess around with. games ARE supposed to be fun people. It would be cool to see some "high level" play in that mode but the competitive scene will stick to the normal vs mode. Its just something extra FOR FREE... stop complaining
And Gems.... they are all conditional... i know people are complaining about autoblock, but seriously 1/3 of your meter just to block ONE attack that could just be a jab when you were stuck in the corner... omg so broken wasting the chance to tag cancel or use an ex move or potentially a super art for 1 free block. smh people always complain. they have barely even mentioned much about the gems. and as far as the S.E. how do you know it wont just grant you access to the harder to earn Gems earlier then everyone else... you dont. you dont know anything except there are power up gems, and autoblock gems. wow... just wait till you play it. if its part of the game then deal with it when you get it. I'm more upset at the fact that the entire event went by and all we got character wise was lame a$$ rufus smh
@zukuu
LOL. You're misunderstood me. If someone is using Shoryuken as an anti-air, autoblock doesn't come into play at all, ever. I'm saying that for new players, their reaction or execution aren't usually as good and they usually end up not blocking against jump-ins at all. (I see casual players everyday so I know this is true) Autoblock would then be there to tell them, "Hey, you should have blocked there. I'll help you out this time for a cost of a meter but you may not be so lucky next time". Eventually, they'll learn to block themselves(saving meter) and maybe even anti-air like the should.
You are sacrificing a slot for the autoblock gem. Whether or not it will be worth it will depend a lot on the matchup which nobody has any idea about yet. It also doesn't save your life all the time (like Burst) since throws, counterpokes, punishes and frametraps are still in the game.
The Gem system will work.
