Tomoaki Ayano went on Capcom's stream at the New York Comic-Con to answer some questions. Tomoaki Ayano is the assistant producer of both Street Fighter X Tekken and Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition, he answers some pretty interesting questions here.Q - Has Namco helped with the selection of Tekken characters or has it been all Capcom?
A - The selection of the characters were basically all selected by Capcom, and we listened to the fans.
Q - Any unique difficulties getting the Tekken characters to fit into the Street Fighter perimeters?
A - We get this question quite often, from a developer perspective it wasn't actually as difficult as people would think. Even though Tekken is a 3d game they're basically playing on a 2d field with an added side step.
Q - Can we get any additional information on the PC version?
A - The PC version has just begun development, we can't really say how far we are with it because we're focusing on the console version. On the other hand we'd like to hear what people want to see in the PC version.
Q - Is there a reason why certain looks of characters were chosen? (example given was why was Tekken 3 Yoshimitsu chosen over any other versions)
A - As I mentioned before when we were taking into consideration which characters would be in the game, we wanted to select characters that the fans would know the best. As you know with Yoshimitsu his design has changed in every Tekken game so we decided that the Tekken 3 version of Yoshimitsu would be the most well known one.
Q - Can you give us any specific examples of gems?
A - Boost gem - One that will boost your attack power, there are many kinds of gems that will boost your attack power but this one lasts for 20 seconds, a gem could activate if you hit the opponent with 5 normal attacks or a gem that activates when you get hit by 3 normal attacks.
Q - With Rufus released and no Tekken character, when will the corresponding Tekken character be released?
A - We announced Rufus' officially that he'd be in the game at New York Comic-Con, unfortunately we cannot say when we'll be releasing that information. However at the panel we did release three new teasers.
Q - Has Namco asked to change anything in the game?
A - Every once in awhile we'll take the game over to Bandai Namco to show them how the game is developing and of course during those times we'll get some advice or pointers, but the original agreement between the two companies was that this is Capcom's game and the final decisions are Capcom's, but they do listen to input from Namco.
Q - So the same would be said about the future game Tekken X Street Fighter?
A - The original premise when we started talking about making this cross over series of games was that the Capcom made Street Fighter X Tekken and the Namco made Tekken X Street Fighter was that we would use each other's characters but the final decision making would lie within the company that's making the title. So it's safe to say that for the Tekken X Street Fighter that Namco will have all the creative power in that project.
Q - How do you acquire gems, how many will be free and what the situation is with preorder gems how those work?
A - I'm sure you guys are interested in how you go about acquiring gems and unfortunately we aren't ready to talk about that. I just wanted to say we don't want you to have jump through hoops or over hurdles to try and collect the gems.
Q - Was there any talk internally when this update became big enough to actually give a name to, was there any talk about adding two more characters. Did it ever reach the point when that was on the table?
A - When we decided to make 2012 edition of the game we realized that a lot of players weren't happy with balance of the game. So the initial premise of the entire update was to balance the game. So there was never really any consideration about adding new characters.
Q - Was there any tweaks that stuck out in your mind that the community really wanted and it's one of the changes that's already been implemented in the game?
A - From the perspective of us the developing team of Arcade Edition there was no in particular case or character that we thought was a big problem. When we make the game we make the tools, but we don't know exactly how the players will end up using them in the end. So from a development perspective we thought the game was balanced correctly but when we decided to make the v2012 update we went to the community and asked them on who they thought were too strong or what moves needed altered. We didn't want to nerf too much we wanted to buff most characters.
Q - There are concerns on exclusive gems and how this might cause an unbalance with the players be leaving some people out, can you give more detail on how you collect gems?
A - Unfortunately we aren't able to say how you'll go about collecting the gems, so I ask that you please be more patient.
Q - How was the decision to add Cole to the PS Vita version made, instead of any other Playstion character?
A - We didn't add Cole to the Vita version to make him exclusive that way, but when we were talking to Sony about how we could make the game more interesting and the thing we agreed on was to add Cole from the InFamous series.
Q - When you go online with Street Fighter X Tekken can you see what gems other players have equipped?
A - There's no way to know what gems the opponent has equipped before starting the match. However once you start the match you can see the gems next to their cross meter and by the color of the gem you can kind of tell what gems or play style they're using. If they player has a lot of red gems that means they're trying to increase their attack power. If they have a lot of yellow gems they're most likely a very defensive player. Unfortunately we can't comment directly on whether or not you can not equip gems, however we just want to say from Capcom's perspective we think the gem system is a core function of the game.
Q - Any chance of an Xbox equivalent to Cole for the PS Vita version?
A - Sorry we can't say anything about that at this time.
Q - How many more characters are there to come?
A - We released 6 teaser trailers however this doesn't mean there will be 6 characters and there will be more characters announced and revealed at a later time.
i would liek the "more gems trough DLC/Peorder/specific store only codes" question asked, cuz it does not seem to balanced that way, but i will have faith.
This doesn't make any sense. SFxT's Gem System is balanced while UMvC3's Heroes and Heralds is unbalanced? What kind of developer who makes an unbalanced mode? I mean that Capcom really should balance Heroes and Heralds Mode.
@5 Well, I guess that Heroes and Heralds Mode is so much fun after all. I really hope that SFxT is having one. You got to admit the Gem System is a massive feature. Can't wait to try it out on March 2012.
Heh, well no beating around the bush with this one guys.
They want thoughts on the PC version? In that case, post a reply in this thread to petition Capcom to use Steamworks instead of GFWL. Hope the link works: http://www.capcom-unity.com/street_fi...
@11
True, True. But there is no way to know when that trailer was made. If they made a decision to shake up the roster and throw in Rufus the trailer could have been made at that time.
I like Rufus, I liked the CG trailer.
Maybe I'm wrong though... Did Hugo get a teaser trailer? Or just the CG intro?
Elena! We need Elena and Eddy/Christie in this game!
(The PC version question is in there twice
"not you can not equip gems, however we just want to say from Capcom's perspective we think the gem system is a core function of the game."
LOL SALT LEVELS GONNA GO UP!
"however this doesn't mean there will be 6 characters"? WTF? Man, they love making up rules on the spot....)
OK now that the NYCC is over, when is the next major event? if anybody knows please tell me, thanks =)
i say it once and i will again but yun have to be in this game . A yun/yang team or yun/fei long team will be nice or better yet a yun/gen team and that would be awesome...LOL
@Mr_Pyro I sent Ono and Seth a tweet telling them that if they choose to use GFWL instead of Steamworks that they should take advantage of the fact GFWL supports Crossplatform play with Xbox360.
If they go with Steamworks than they could do crossplatform with PS3 (like Portal 2 does.)
Whatever happened to the Tekken Verison of this game?
@YoshinatorZ
Tekken x Capcom is being developed by Namco and is still in the very early stages. Harada has already said he doesn't want to release the game until after SFxT has been out already.
Given that Namco is working on Tekken Tag Tournament 2 (TTTT) I doubt that TxSF will come out before late 2012 or even early 2013.
Fingers crossed that Mecha Zangief isn't a red herring and is in the game as his own playable character (green rocket fists and all). Team Cyber Akuma and Mecha Zangief go!
Also really REALLY hoping he keeps to his word and dips into characters that aren't in SSFIV:AE. I'd really like to see a street fighting character from each of the game series appear, even the EX games (Skullomania) and one from the game based on the movie based on the game.(Sawada)
As long as he can go outside of the usual fare (and maybe includes Juri and/or Vega) I'll be quite pleased I think.
@27
Well thats a shame, kinda ruins the character hype.
Hey guys what do you think if they added Shun (Ryu's Brother from the Alpha movie) to the game? Or maybe he would be better off in street fighter alpha 4?
One thing id like to see is that they get rid of the coloured system for gems. As a colour blind gamer I really struggle with some things that are based on colour. A little icon as well would do the trick. Does anyone else have this problem and if so what are your thoughts on the colour system for gems?
I reall wish we got more character announcements rather than teasers. Does anyone know when is the next gaming event?
