In a post from iPlayWinner we hear some details about a new mode called Heroes and Heralds. It appears to be some sort Street Fighter X Tekkens gem system by adding in special features via cards you collect offline. A totally new way to play the game. Add abilities using cards, ala Gems or System Direction. Abilities include Parry, Assist Super Armor, XFactor Blowback, Dizzying Attacks, Projectile Invincibility, Special cancels into Specials, Invisibility, etc. Over 100 cards, equip 3 at once, 1.12 million total combinations.
Head over to iPlayWinner for more details and a small Q&A with the Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 panel.

(LOL LOL LOL
Complaints about gem - I mean card system coming in 3...2...
PS: No, not parrying :( )
U MvC 3 is giving us some masturbation worthy information today.
Whoa, never thought I'd hear 'Marvel' and 'Parry' in the same sentence without 'doesn't have' in between. I like this idea (especially since it's just a bonus mode and not part of the main fighting sytem) and the fact it's free is nice too.
@1
If I had to guess it's probably like when Phoenix goes Dark Phoenix, so when you activate X-Factor it blows the opponent away from you.
Damn, Capcom stepping it up on extra modes all of a sudden.
This is the kind of stuff I have been waiting for... new modes that are fun. Can you dig it?!? Sho'nuff!
@foreverbadass: cool, well the only thing that I can I say I would really want is Parrying but it should be fun to mess about with the other options as well
@8 Yeah, I can dig it! :P
Finally some stuff to have fun on the side for. It's funny hearing people complain about the Gem system in SFxT and now Marvel with cards! LoL I can't wait for the trolls to blow this post up.
Actually i was waiting for a mode like this.
Parry, really? I WANT TO PARRY HYPER SENTINEL FORCE!!!!
First I got my Phoenix Wright reveal trailer, now there's new modes?! 1 more month of waiting!
For UMvC 3 NYCC has more reveals than Tokyo Game Show and I thought they said Tokyo is going to have big reveals? I'm not complaining.
On another note, I think Rocket Raccoon and Frank West will be revealed in two weeks at the
London MCM Expo It's on October 28 to 30
Capcom's logo is on there, it's got to be where we'll see Rocket Raccoon and Frank
source: http://www.londonexpo.com/gamesexpo/
wow all these gimmicks and yet not one of these will b allowd in tourney play -____-. cud i just get more characters pls? sheesh all these GIMMICKS ARE STARTING TO REALLY BUG ME.rather than makin the roster 58 characters we keep gettin junk that will only b fun for lik...one month.
Horrible Idea. Wont be used in Tournaments so whats the point?
@Apollo13
People have been asking for such things over and over, that's why. AngryJoe is a perfect example, people have been so vocal about a lack of mode, now we'll be getting new modes.
Regardless, this mode has about 1.2 million combinations of collectible cards, so I don't see the complaint.
@apollo13
Shut up, s-head. Ok? They're at 50 or so right now. 8 isn't a big deal. Add eight more and balancing would be even more effed up. You'll get your 58 eventually. This won't be the last iteration.
@viktorkain
Since when does everything have to be made with tournaments in mind? Please let me know when this was made the absolute rule. I beg you.
@25
yeah man screw playing this game for fun that's for suckers Wolverine/Akuma for life
@24 & 25
Yeah, because every single person who's gonna play this game is a tournament player. God forbid Capcom add some fun modes to complement the rest of the game.
@30 Everything does not have to be made with tournaments in mind but to improve the longevity of a game it needs to be competitive. Most games that you can only play through once or are really really casual just kind of die off. I am not denying that this mode will probably be hella fun online or with friends. It just wont be taken too seriously.... Universal teleports? Armored Assists? I'm sure you get my drift.
@31 Yea fun is so lame.........your Sarcasm is noted
@24 Your mom never bought you a slinky when you were a kid did she?
This is basically you Apollo13:

@forgotmypen
do u actually c a point in having useless crap lik this? its just gona make the unbalanced than it already is, its also makin this game less of a fighter and more of a party game,i kno its all in the name of fun but all this unneeded stuff bugs me. and y wait for another iteration? i dont wana have to buy super ultimate marvel vs capcom for more content that shud already b in,
@InitialR
as for u, ill admit, im a character whore,but thats it, all these additional modes are completely useless to me, and thats cuz i play with a competitive mindset, if it cant b used tourney wise then i dont care about it.simple
Man this is awesome I'm pumped parrys gem system in SFXT most people don't like but I'm loving this stuff
Cool mode but man no Frank west and Rocket Raccoon? Now we gotta wait like another two weeks before their trailers come out. What was the point of revealing Phoenix Wright and Nova two days before the UMVC3 panel. That's just stupid. If they weren't going to announce more than 2 characters, they could of have just waited til the panel. I'm dissapointed.
Capcom keep with the fun modes love the idea and also DLC characters no plans yet?? iwould turn that no plans into we have plans if the need idea of a pack classic pack add-2 characters from the past to the present they can decide from the idea of the fans if megaman can't be there must be others that people can like that is not megaman what about darkstalker or street fighter series and from marvel any xmen,spiderman character would do it. but the idea would be great and maybe it doesn't have to be from mvc series or from TvC but capcom side like onimusha characters like soki or samanoske or from rival schools but the idea is good
my idea of a dlc name i would called the classic dlc pack or second dlc pack
on iplaywinner
Q: Is Mega Man poster a troll?
A: Yes.
+ Howard the duck is a card. I wonder what that would do.
(WHAT IS THIS? WHY IS NO ONE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE GEM, I MEAN CARD SYSTEM? MY SODIUM DETECTION GRID ISN'T EVEN HALFWAY TO 'McDonald's' YET!
Come on guys...I need more sodium!)
Yay, a buncha gimmicky stupid modes like MK for the "casual" fighting fans. Real fighting fans only need vs mode, but whatever.
With the right cards Dark Phoenix shall kill simply off transformation!!! YES!
I want a Guile's theme Gem that activates when the last remaining character activates X Factor.
@57 I could argue that "real" fighting fans would be more than willing to experiment in a mode such as this, just to see how the gameplay changes. Something as simple as adding parrying would drastically change things up, not to even try to think on what you could combine it with. A "real" fighter would not blindly fear or deride attempts to change up the gameplay we're used to, especially if these attempts come free and simply as an alternative to the standard, not a replacement.
I could argue that anyone who would eat up a $40-60 game with just the barebones of gameplay options is a blind fanboy who cares more about preserving arbitrary nostalgic elitism and belonging to that group than actually having fun.
But I'm not going to argue either of those, because they aren't absolutely true and the second one would be insulting.
Since this is an alternative that no one is being forced to comply to, it's just a "different strokes for different folks" case. Some may tinker with it, some may ignore it, some may genuinely only play in this mode. Each way is fine. Options are good.
Don't care about extra modes. I mean really how many people are gonna play them? What people really want are characters. The same time they take to make pointless DC they can use to make Characters
as long as Capcom doesn't release $10 SUPER RARE LEGENDARY GOD CARDs that will GREATLY give advantage to people who have them.
to be honest though, this crap sucks for a fighting game. Fighting games are supposed to be about skill, and not about collectible powerup bull like this.
Gotta love all these cry babies pretending to be tournament players and hating on extra modes. News flash, none of this takes away from you frauds pretending to be super serious players. I bet half of you were the same people that b*tched about not having more modes in vanilla.
Don't even mention tournaments, just say what you're really thinking: "Uh oh, I probably won't be able to watch these modes on streams. Not like I'll even play the game for more than 5 minutes, but I better complain and act like my opinion matters so all of the internet guys think I'm important!"
its good to know that some people in here know what the general public what.... yea...
if they add characters into the game because idk if the can expand the roster but if they add character or maybe a new boss to the game which i found galactus like very easy and unchallenging boss and they need to add a capcom boss to make the game more fun and challenging to the players and i guess in 2 week mcm london expo would announce the last characters of this game and maybe what can the add to the future and what not?? soo i hope nitsuma gives us more news of the game.
Offline card collection? So Capcom gets us for DLC the old fashioned way.
Sounds like a great addition. I assume the X-factor blow back is similar to Mega Crashes from TvC.
@77 umm there were people that approved and disapproved of GEMS and CARDS.
@77
SFxT announces gems that are part of the main game play system
FG community: "BOOOO!"
MvC3 announces cards that behave just like gems and is a separate mode adding more modes to the game which is what fans complained about the first game
FG community: "AWESOME!!"
More proof that certain members of the community are so blinded by hate and bias they can't see the good.
Kudos to Capcom for trying new stuff. Keep it coming.
@82 Arcade mode is truly a waste...the point of FIGHTING GAMES is to fight other people. What's really the point of fighting a dumb a55 computer AI anyway?
oh wait is this CARD MODE separate from versus mode or online matches? if yes, then OK. Let the casuals have their new mode.
As long as this CARD system doesn't become the standard.
#83
So you're saying the game should just be Multi-player only-no other modes just multi-player that sounds very lame.Sales for this game would be really low if this game was just Multiplayer lol.
What would be the point of the game, not everyone wants to play online or in a tournament,not everyone is good at the game, think on the bright side you're sounding a bit rational here lol. You can already play against people, but even playing against people might not be as much challenging than the AI lol.
I get it's an optional mode, but I'd rather have more characters than some gimmicky mode. I'm just slightly peeved that they spent time on this mode rather than just giving us more characters.
@#51
Agreed!!
Or maybe fight one before the other and then they combine to make some kind of unique super Boss. Like Galactic Sigma lol.
You'll fight Sigma first in his giant form, then Galactus and something weird happens and you fight the Galactic Sigma as the real last boss.
@87 If I wanted to play the AI I would play an adventure game or RPG where there is an actual story. If you don't want to atleast play online then maybe you shouldn't even buy this game because you aren't gonna enjoy it much if you just troll the arcade mode all the time.
#88
These modes probably don't take as much time as characters.
I think it's quite obvious that Capcom will do a third addition because they feel that DLC characters is a waste because they know that not too many or enough people will Download those characters.
I'd say if they're going to do another version, they should come out with more than 8 because 58 was originally planned, so now they have time to come out with more. Maybe 10 or 12 more should suffice, bring it to 60 or 62. This is just wishful thinking though.
They still haven't showed what they added to Galactus yet.
@91 not everyone plays this game competitively after I'm done playing my 5&6 year old play the crap out of arcade and love it alot of kids play this game too it's not just for hardcore gamers and everyone needs to remember that cuz majority sales is what in the long run supports us hardcore gamers it's not because they care about us maybe you can run versus with some of these options offline of course but it could be fun to take it easy and just have alittle fun here and there
#91
Apparently,I'm not you. I enjoy playing this game with or without people. Actually I play it casually or alone more than I play it with people. There's a lot of cool characters to choose from this time, and a lot of cool stuff to do, and plus I'm a Marvel fan and Capcom fan I can play this game over and over without people, it's just that fun to me. Sometimes playing it with people can be bad when you get sore losers who wants to fight you lol.
#91
So your ideal fighting game will be restricted with only 2 modes. Local vs play (With NO option for 1p vs CPU because that would be a waste) and Online play? Training mode? Who needs training when I can just wing it? Sounds magnificently... terrible.
Most of the actual fighting game community really only cares about Training mode, solid online mode, versus mode, cool characters, cool looking stages and balanced gameplay.
All the frills of arcade mode, gallery mode, mini games, etc don't really matter to be honest.
You guys asked for more modes, there you go, this sounds Awesome and interesting! Cant wait to try this!
Wow what an ignorant bunch u folks are? Capcom adds a free dlc mode that looks like they put work into 1.2 mil combanitons and such, its offline and u are not forced to play with the card system since its it own separate mode. like are you guys for serious or just trolling for the lawls.. cause i seriously cant see the problem here. They waste there time making new mode when they can give new characters? who the f*** are u kidding lol if they didnt make this mode u wouldn't have gotten anything in return maybe a new shadow mode.. but not new characters.. not anytime soon. Just be thankful capcom is trying to please all fans of mvc3 and not just the hardcore ones, and i might add there doing this without changing the core game play.. don't be selfish your not the only one who enjoys this game.
Technically, its a different way to play, and,it could get expertise.with all the cards and combinations, so its not just for casuals.
This adds a lot of replayability and fun to the game for the 90% of the gaming population that buy the game to have fun and aren't tournament elitists. I'm excited for it.
I hope they change up the Galactus boss fight, maybe they will give him a third stage where he combines with a Capcom villain like Sigma or maybe one of the Asura's Wrath gods ?
@96
And the "actual fighting game community" make up a negligible fraction of sales. Why do you think Capcom have been going out of their way to cater to the GENERAL audience?
And I'm sorry to break it to you, but your little version of the "actual fighting game community" doesn't exist. Those are the things that hardcore players care about in the long run, of course. But do you really think that every top player looks at a fighting game with extra modes and says "durr dis iz jus stoopid crap i duznt need. i r gunna complain cuz i'm 2 gud for dis babby stuffz"? No. If it's good, they're going to mess with it for a while and appreciate it.
How many fighting games gives you 13 new characters to play as an update?
Technically we already got extra characters and will get more whenever we get the next update, which I think will be a while from now.
People are also forgetting that they are also adding new 50 costumes, 2 or more new alternate colors, new moves, and possibly once confirmed new DLC stages.
We gone get some new characters, my guess is their in the process of picking who would be the best ones for the next update.
One game that failed in my opinion that had tons of characters, but lack game modes for re-playability was Mortal Kombat Armaggeddon, lots of characters but not much to do with them.
@100 I refuse to believe that 90% of the people that have MVC3 are scrubs that don't REALLY know how to play the game.
@104
How many people do you think go to tournaments or participate in tournaments?
How many people bought MvC3?
There is your answer.
The tournament gaming community is a very, very, VERY small minority of the overall community of gamers who buy games. If Capcom only catered to the tourney crowd, fighting games would die off like they did 10 years ago. Most people who buy games want lots of fun modes that make the game more enjoyable for them.
See post #102 for a better answer.
I guess it's good in that it will apparently get more casuals to play the game, increasing sales and increasing chances for further updates, versions, but still, time spent making this mode could've went into new characters. And I do still agree with those saying these extra modes aren't for real fighting fans. Fighting games became popular in the arcades where there was only really 1 mode. Arcade/Versus. All these extra fluff modes aren't what made the genre popular, nor are they what gives it staying power.
@107
And I wholeheartedly disagree.
I have been playing fighting games since the first Street Fighter game in the arcades in the late 80's, including purchasing every iteration of Street Fighter for the SNES, PS1, PS2 and PS3... not to mention tons of other fighting games from different franchises and companies. I would consider myself a fighting game fan, but I am not hardcore, nor do I desire to be. I just enjoy playing fighting games. Being a fighting game fan and being hardcore are two different things.
Granted, the core enjoyment is the vs. mode, whether against a human or CPU, but adding more modes that are fun does not detract from that, but can actually ADD a lot of fun for those fighting game fans who like some diversity. Only the narrow-minded ones stuck in the "old ways," think that fighting games HAVE TO be a certain way, and no other -- that is the sort of Japanese gaming mindset that has caused much of Japan's game companies to lag behind the Western world in making good games (e.g., see what Inafune last year about this subject). There is nothing wrong with trying to innovate, add new strategic levels, or increase the fun in a genre that tends to get stuck in the mud... I think this kind of stuff is actually a good sign.
@107 I'm more then positive that they have different groups of people working on different projects. The same people that make characters don't go and make different modes of play. So that "time spent" is pure crap. Second, wonder how the arcades are doing now? If it isn't in the east, the arcades are dead.
@109
A similar situation to this would be to look at Multiplayer in Mass Effect 3. People were angry that perhaps the Bioware team wasted time making this when they could've been working on the more important aspect of an RPG, the single player. Bioware addressed this by saying they had a completely separate team working on multiplayer and that the original team was still 100% devoted to single player. Capcom however, I'm assuming, is using the same team to do both, meaning they're using some time they could've spent tweaking the vs mode, hunting down glitches, making new characters or stages or what have you, to make this mode. I realize the mode is optional, but the development team still has a set amount of time to make the game, and some time had to be devoted to this which, in my, and a few others opinions could've been better spent elsewhere. It's a valid concern to have. It was valid for Mass Effect 3 and it's valid here. I don't think this is a HUGE deal by any means, I just wish they didn't bother with this mode and just concentrated on putting as much into the Vs mode as possible, whether it be new characters or whatever.
@112 The main problem in your statement was that you assumed. I see hat your trying to say, but you have no clue if they used the same team that created characters to create the new modes. On a side note, Lyn is trying to hard to make this new feature look bad or a "party" game. So i'm guess You think any fighting game with customizable option towards a character a "party" game?
Well, like I said, I don't think this is a huge deal. Kinda sounds like the old gem system from Marvel Superheros in a way.
@105
So? That doesnt mean there arnt great players, their dont HAVE TO bein tournaments
.Im one who knows how to handle spidey,tasky,and others very well and is trying to master MODOK and Arthur, and I dont care about entering tournaments.
@114
If it isn't going to be used in tourneys, then it's more suited for casual play and casual play usually falls along the line of "Party Game".
Take it as you see fit. Never see any Smash Bros. tourneys host items and I highly doubt this RNG mode is going to be supported in any way.
No need to defend this party game. It is what it is.
@116
Where did you infer that from my post? I never said anything remotely close to good players only being tourney player.
@112 But that still equates to the hardcore; "I just wish they didn't bother with this mode and just concentrated on putting as much into the Vs mode as possible..." Everyone does'nt want to play the same versus mode all the time. People get tired of playing fighting games all day. Justin Wong, Yipes, all of them are career fighting game pros. IF your not looking to be just like them whats the point?
To get on top of the Leaderboards that don't reward you and will be obsolete in the next year or two? You can only tweak and balance a game so much. At the end of the day it's not about how balanced it is, it's about how fun it is.
This is the 21st Century it's time to get with the times people.
My idea of "Fun" is testing my actual skill inside a FIGHTING game.
Not go "lolololol so close dude! I needed to draw that Raccoon card to win this match."
I never said MK was a party game however, it does have modes which aren't seen in competitive play.
Not knocking that but I don't see this as something to "look forward to" because I honestly don't care for extra modes or "gimmicks" inside fighting games.
I have Mario Kart to fill that spot.
Funny how everyone wants fighting games to be like Mario Party nowadays anyway.
Trailer.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZfzBAn...
The end of the video...awwwwwww snap!
@Lyn Just say you don't care for it. Thats all you had to say. Calling it a party game just because of an extra mode of play is stupid. If you don't like it, which we know you don't, don't buy the game, which I know you probably won't do. And good riddance. All you ever seem to do is complain about something.
@127
Don't talk as if you know me.
I've said I don't care for Marvel and stated why however, people such as yourself feel this unspecified need to direct something towards me as if I can't express why I don't like something.
Me saying why is by far better than me just saying, "I don't like it and anyone who does is stupid."
No, I don't plan on buying this party game because Capcom doesn't have barbed C**** up my ass unlike majority here. Plus daddy doesn't pay for my games.
@lyn then why are you even on this site..... I mean we all (mostly) enjoy and love what capcom does for FANS and PLAYERS alike if you dont like it why dont you go to test your might im sure they would love crying hopefuls like you there
Wowwwwwww....
Haters gonna hate. For real. Just once, I want a company to release a game with only versus, training, and online versus.
Watch that sucker tank. Watch it.
I would just stop arguing with Lyn. If he has his opinion, let him have it. I don't care if it's considered a party game or a hardcore fighting game though. I don't see the need to be competitive with my friends when I'm hanging out with them. I like to have a good time and d1ck around. Which is exactly what this card mode is allowing me to do. I'll be having a blast with it.
@132
I like being competitive because I like to be the best.
You can settle for getting raped in things you enjoy but everyone I play with(in r/) wants to win.
Either go hard or gtfo.
@Fanboys
I honestly don't care if you think I'm elitist or what not. I enjoy fundemental play with little to no gimmicks.
Niitsuma stated himself that he wants to have a casual mode for you babies out there and you have it. Be happy and stop pissing in your pants everytime someone (like me) comes and say that it's a party game.
@133
pretty sure UMVC3 is under fighting game genre.. so your just wrong, no need to correct a whiny baby who only thinks winning at something is the only way to have fun, this is the internet you post your opinion be ready for it to be argued against 70% time to get over it.
As for the extra mode im loving it cant wait to play it with my friends, x factor burst reminds me of the go ol' TvC days
@138
Including an additional mode, that is no different really than a system direction or customization mode, doesn't make it a party game. It's still a fighting game that rewards technique and execution. Frankly, if developers only catered to people as close-minded as you, then these newer games would not keep people's interest, and they wouldn't be made because the competitive fighting game community is hardly large enough to demand any sort of decent budget. You would be stuck with remakes of past games like 3SO, things that are cheap to make.
Being bare-bones was a big complaint against Vanilla, and this is a fun diversion as a response. I don't understand people that whine about something extra they don't need to use. You seem hard to please. Luckily, people like you that would complain over an addition like this are in a very small minority.
I suppose this mode can be fun. It basically comes down to waiting for when the game is released and see how it plays. If it sucks, back to regular play. No harm, no foul.
Funny to see so much premature saltyness about gems and cards while most of us yet have to play with these new features.
"Most of the actual fighting game community really only cares about Training mode, solid online mode, versus mode, cool characters, cool looking stages and balanced gameplay.
All the frills of arcade mode, gallery mode, mini games, etc don't really matter to be honest."
I call B.S on that one . Even here many people b*tched about the lack of modes in the original MVC3, and couldnt stop raving about something like Mortal Kombat (instead of noticing how vapid the gameplay quickly gets in this one) .
And now that it's there , it's all "dont care want more chars!" (with already 12 more annonced and the huge likelihood of dlcs) or dont care "i'm a tourny guy "?
Yeah right ... i'll just chalk it up to the same BS from the "community" and its propension to whine no matter what .
ITT people who think they are hardcore tournament players after getting top 32 in a local tournament.
parrying Marvel? awesome and I wonder what that X-Factor blow back is
