Today at New York Comic-Con, Street Fighter X Tekken producer Yoshinori Ono revealed a ton of new info, including the revolutionary Gem System, an all-new customizable power-up system that creates an exciting way for everyone to experience the Street Fighter and Tekken fighting systems.
Choose from dozens of Gems that modify characters’ abilities and stats. Check out the new trailer that sheds light on this new way to experience fighting games.
Prior to the game hitting shelves on March 6 in North America and March 9 in Europe, fans will be able to grab special packs of Gems for pre-ordering at various retailers.
Ono-san also announced the Special Edition of Street Fighter X Tekken for North America, which includes:
- Street Fighter X Tekken game
- Build-It-Yourself Arcade Cabinet Bank (approximately 5”H)
- Exclusive Prequel Comic Book by UDON
- 36 Gems: Includes All Pre-Order Packs Plus An Exclusive Pack
- Pre-Order Bonus: Nine Exclusive Gems Only Available For Pre-Ordering Special Edition
- Total of 45 Gems When You Pre-Order
I really hope that gems are easy to attain, and that I don't have to worry about constantly getting better ones, or something like that. Part of the reason I play more fighting games these days as opposed to my old hobby (Magic: The Gathering) is that I don't have to spend extra money to play. If this game takes a similar tone to Magic, then that's gonna be really disheartening.
Hrm, now I'm worried.
"Includes ALL Pre-order Packs + An Exclusive"
So now the best bet is that GameSpot gets a certain set, Best Buy gets a certain set, etc.
Now the question is: Does it start you off with certain gems and then you unlock the rest through play (aside from the Special Edition only set)? Or does this 45 pre-order number mean that there are 45 exclsuive preorder gems + more that are already in the game?
(Capcom said pros will use the gems, so much like X-FACTOR, you will not be able to turn them off
MUHUAHAHHAHAHAH!)
This troll game....I'm so glad namco is making their own version.
@11 That's the concern now, giving us a hard option/seperate search queues for Gems and No Gems.
@12: Nope.
http://iplaywinner.com/news/2011/10/1...
"Q: Can you use no gems?
A: Yes, but you will want to use them."
Tournament play will just not set-up gems.
Aaaand this game just got about twice as stupid.
@25 Will WANT to because they may be interesting and add a pleasurable layer of complexity and strategy, which is probably the aim. I personally hope this is the case.
However, if they turn out poorly, tournament players do not HAVE to use them.
Quote again for emphasis.
"Q: Can you use no gems?
A: Yes, but you will want to use them."
(Tournament players HAVE to use x-factor, therefore they will use gems.
MUHUAHAHAHHAH!
YOU CANNOT DENY THE INEVITABLE!)
@ #16
Relax bud, IPW's article says this:
"Auto guard guards any attack, so long as you are able (i.e. not in recovery frames) but costs 1 bar of meter per blocked attack. If you have no meter while the auto-guard gem is active, it won't do anything."
Fair tradeoff?
the gem system will be cool, i'm sure. idk why you people like to go out of your way to be angsty and bitchy over every little neew feature that comes out about game. people cry over every little thing and talk about tournaments and such like they're even in them like that in the first place. in most cases, people who are good at fighting games won't be losing to others simply because of a comeback mechanic or gem setup...
and most comback mechanics are fine so long as they're not REALLY overboard. everyone is always in a frenzy about comeback mechnics since MvC3... yet without a comeback mechanic people can be even cheaper in most cases. these "mechanics" are actually a good thing.
it makes it so a fighting game isn't just some mindless button mashing nonsense. how dare developers want and demand their players to think ahead more and use strategy....
/facepalm
(It's the same - pandora and level 3 charge moves are for scrub play, GEMS will be for TOURNAMENT AND PRO PLAY!
kekeke)
I ORIGINALLY THOUGHT THAT THE GEM SYSTEM WAS MORE LIKE TEKKEN WHERE DEPENDING ON YOUR COSTUME YOU WOULD GET FIXED EXTRA MOVES HENCE THE REASON I FIGURE MECHA ZANGIEF WOULD BE A VERSION OF NORMAL ZANGIEF AND LIKE TEKKEN JULIA WOULD HAVE A GUN IN HER WESTERN OUTFIT BUT THIS AUTO BLOCK STUFF ... YIKES
THIS CAN BE A GOOD THING IF IT ISN'T GIMMICKY LIKE IF YOU HAVE TO PICK UP THE ITEMS AND IF THE GEMS ARE BALANCED LIKE EACH OTHER LIKE A GEM THAT GIVES YOU AUTO-BLOCK SHOULD INCREASE YOUR CHIP DAMAGE TAKEN ETC
most skilled players will no use something like an auto-block gem, i guarantee that!
most good players can block well enough, so why waste that slot? also, they won't want to happen to randomly lose a super bar. and it won't prevent people from taking hits/damage when they're combos and moves are interrupted.
people sure are quick to cry about stuff... SMFH. no wonder there's always this coddling going on for crybabies...
@36
Its not that it's change, its that its stupid change. An auto-block system, even with a bar, just means that the person has to do less work. It revolves less on skill than it does just having some bar and said gem.
There's good change, like the Pandora mode that seems like a huge high stakes gamble, and then theres bad change, as in spending money to be better than someone else.
@ 41
like i said though... skilled players won't WASTE the slot for an auto-block gem... which STEALS THEIR SUPER BARS every time the autoblock is used - they'll DEFINITELY use some other gem, cuz they won't need assisted blocks.
it'll only be scrubs (mainly) who use it... and the scrubs will not have meters to do much damage with if they actually need the autoblock stuff.... furthermore, if they're the type to need that, skilled players will use that to their advantage to make the opponents bar disappear QUICKLY.
SHADOW050
YOUR BITCHING ABOUT PEOPLE HAVING VIEWS AND CONCERN AND IF THIS IS NEW TO YOU YOU MUST OF JUST GOT A COMPUTER FURTHER MORE YOUR LOL LOL LOL YOUR OBSESSED WITH WAS CREATED BY WE PEOPLE
The problem of the matter for me is that its not that it won't be exploited by both sides of the scrub-pro spectrum. Its the fact that it is simply there as a gimmick, with no reason or structure behind it. It may just be my cynicism talking but this isn't a gameplay element, this is a cash cow element.
To be fair I defend change. Heck, I defend DmC against people like Dan Hibiki to a subway train, and still somehow manage to change the direction. Derailing aside, the problem isn't that it can be deflected, or abused, but simply the fact that it is there to change the flow of what skill is about.
Then again my highest rank on AE is C+ Dan Hibiki, so I may not be the best judge of something like this. I just notice things that seem arbitrary.
I'd rant about how UMVC3 is completely useless considering they said they lost the data although any competent studio would have several backups for something such as this, but I digress. Hopefully we'll have some more info by the end of the day.
GEM SYSTEM SEEMS TO BE SET UP IN A WAY WHERE TO KEEP AHEAD YOU'LL HAVE TO BUY THE LATEST GEMS LIKE THESE EXCLUSIVE PRE-ORDER GEMS , IT'S LIKE HAVING TO BUY "EFFECTS" IN A CARD GAME OR SPELL CARDS IN YUGIOH
What the F*CK!
There is NO F*CKING WAY a fighting game can be balanced if some people get things which others "can't" get, well from this anyways. Hopefully those pre-order gems are unlockable ingame.(f- this, unlocking gems? I imagine a spate of problems when in tourneys there are consoles which haven't unlock your gems)
UPPERCUT -DAMAGE INCREASING GEMS
EXTRA HEALTH GEM
EXTRA MOVE GEM
The fact that there are gems that you can only get with the SE automatically makes gems illegal in tournaments. Are you telling me I NEED to buy the SE in order to be competitive because I wont have the gems that other competitive players do? That's straight BS.
Gems should be banned right now. It'd be fine everyone had access to all of them but this is clearly a DLC scheme and a scheme to get people to buy the SE instead of the regular. It's so dumb I don't want anything to do with it.
More customizability will be better. This is going to be awesome - and if the gem system is a hassle tourneys will just won't use the gems, no big deal.
Compared to what the Smash community has done with items, even if they HAD to use Gems it wouldn't be a big problem.
They brought up a good point in the latest trailer too - mirror matches don't have to suck since you can tweak your gems if you want (Guile vs. Guile...smh)
I'm sorry, I'm usually down with all kinds of change. I love the Focus Attack!
I'm a fan of the other Seven new systems they've added to SFxT, but this Gem stuff just SCREAMS Smash Bros! This is clearly what they meant when they said "Not all mechanics have the competitive scene in mind".
Btw, Smash Bros is cool. Just not what I look for in a fighter.
Ono and his team have done a great job in the past. And i love this games roster, so I still have hope.
online for fighters just ain't right.
innovation like this is welcome.
while the option to turn it off is appealing, no one can say x-factor/ultras doesn't make some matches much more dramatic.
but this... this is gonna be interesting. can't wait to see what this brings and what it means for future titles
Gems will probably be bundled in a crapton of DLCs I imagine. If they're unlockable there's no reason to bundle them with the pre-order. Good marketing tactic to release this info at the same time as the AE2k12 announcement to quell concerns.
Can't wait to see what gem DLC packs are gonna be released, on top of costume packs, on top of donation packs, where you don't really get anything in return, you just send money to Capcom.
LOL, can't wait for Capcom to start selling gems to people.
"Exclusive Gems" means that if you don't pre-order the game you can't get them which means that not everybody will have access to the same mechanics.
Hey Capcom, way to break your game before it even comes out.
To all you idiots Complaining about the GEMS, Read carefully now you reading? DON'T USE THEM & DON'T FIGHT ANYBODY HE DOES IT'S THAT SIMPLE!!! I not going to use them & I'm sure that this is a different mode to the other modes meaning you don't have to use them anywhere else.
I personal don't see the gem systems being that bad. you will have to full in conditions before you can use them ( linking three hits to boosts your power) and the gem boost is only temporary. If anything I find that gems make it so we don't have to have update once in awhile just because some characters needs buffs (face it your gonna have characters that are not on par with others) and if you still don't like it, like other posts made clear. You can choose not to play with them
I don't think they actually specified whether or not you can choose to completely cancel them in Ranked or Player matches online, number 75. Besides; knowing online, everyones just gonna spam the cool looking ones or the broken ones to get extreme points and get achievements. Hopefully this games promise of a story is more than what MVC3 gave us; although Street Fighter IS Capcoms most favorite brand, the way it treats the rest of the franchises like dirt, so it probably will.
WARGROUND_COOK
NO GENIUS, I'M NOT "BITCHING" ABOUT PEOPLE PEOPLE HAVING VIEWS, AND IT'S NOT NEW... MAYBE IF YOU WASN'T SO BUSY BEING PART OF THE PROBLEM YOU'D UNDERSTAND THAT I'M CRITICIZING THEIR NEED TO BITCH ABOUT EVERY LITTLE THING DUE TOT HE FACT THAT IT'S NOT NEW OR RARE, ETC. IT HAPPENS TO MUCH AND I'M BASICALLY TELLING THEM TO STOP. I LIKE HOW YOU TRY TO COME TO THE RESCUE, BASICALLY IN THE NAME OF BEING ABLE TO VOICE AN OPINION WHICH OBVIOUSLY ISN'T THE ISSUE. FOOLISH PEOPLE AREN'T SMART ENOUGH TO REALIZE THAT WHEN NO ONE SPEAKS UP ABOUT STUPID/BAD BEHAVIOR AND THE LIKE, IT BASICALLY CONDONES IT AND TELLS PEOPLE IT'S OK. WHEN YOU RISE TO THEIR DEFENSE LIKE AN IDIOT, YOU REALLY TELL THEM IT'S OK.
BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY, I REALIZE THAT YOU SEEM TO LACK THE INTELLIGENCE TO UNDERSTAND WHAT BITCHING ACTUALLY IS. BY YOUR APPARENT AND STELLAR LOGIC, TELLING SOMEONE TO STOP CRYING AND TO STFU, IS CRYING AS WELL. CLEARLY YOUR LACKING...
LASTLY, IDGAF WHO "LOL" WAS CREATED BY... NOT THAT YOU'D REALLY KNOW WHO CREATED OR WHATEVER. AND IT WOULDN'T CHANGE ANYTHING ABOUT NOT CONDONING PEOPLE BITCHING OVER EVERY LITTLE THING. EITHER WAY, IT'S FUNNY THAT YOU'D HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY ABOUT ME TYPING "LOL" WHICH IS THERE FOR A REASON, WHILE YOU HAVE A BLATANT OBSESSION WITH FLAMING...
/facepalm
@Shadow, Warground
You're both flaming eachother, and while I would take this time to have fun by playing Phoenix Wright between it, I'll just say stick to the topic.
Gems create an unfair advantage by a default. Even if it can be countered, it is still THERE.
You guys are funny. Getting huffed about every feature that makes boring old street fighter just a tad bit more interesting. I don't see peope banning assist or X-Factor in tournaments even though that changes the rules significantly in that game; Infinite combos, serious boost in damage, speed and red health recovery. These things alter the balance of the game by it's core and it's different for everyone. Gems seem no different.
This is gonna make the game much more ineresting, it can be banned at tournaments I guess but that seems like a missed opportunity. This seems like a chance to make the tournament scene much more dynamic along with real teams with real people in real time. Jwong Gem set or Daigo gem setups ect.
@85 I'm with you pumped new and refreshing gameplay excitement 2 player co-op holy crap
IDC if you can search for a no gem mode..What if most prefer to play with gems? where I live its already hard to find a regular match let stand if people/groups are seperated....
One group that plays Gems one that doesnt, if there are to few in one group im gonna have to be forced to do this shi..
Auto-block? Fck off cc.
mvc3 gives you points for playing the game in general.
sfiv give you points for playing online.
capcom looks bad among their own fans for charging money for costumes.
Y U NO LET MVC3 PP and SFIV Points [and SFxT points] exchangeable for colors, costumes, and gems.
i know it's only a few bucks for some of these things, but it's a good look given the bad taste they seem to leave in everyone's mouth for MAKING FIGHTING GAMES AND CROSSOVERS AGAIN. people would still see the total points you've earned over all time, but you can spend currency for things like outfits, colors, and gems. Make it costly [a La Tekken] so people play often. It's better motivation than collecting titles and icons.
*87. auto block only works if your not in recovery and each attack blocks eat an entire bar. I don't think it'll drain bar from your partner and when there is nothing left it doesn't block so...
Blockstring of four attacks on someone who happened to be walking. It was auto-blocked. First three attacks are blocked at the cost of 3 bars if she had that much.
An unholy gamble if you will. It's both an augmentation but seems to me it's also liability. just like someone having more offensive gems or more speed. what does it matter how strong you are if you keep getting beat to the punch. This is the next level of fighting games.
unlike x-factor and ultra. everyones using it. they just don't know they're hype yet.
aww i was hoping the jems were just for aesthetic reasons :/
HOW!
How do we get those gems?
I don't get it. Its the ONLY thing that matters, as well as if the pre-orders gems are exclusives. Everything depends on that: tourney viability, ruined online experience and me not buying that money grabbing crap.
Gameplay implications are completely meaningless without these questions answered.
MOTHERFVCKER$ Im out all day just to build up hype so i can be excited to read some good news and character reveals, and i get this gem $hit and fvckin rufus! i mean even tho thats exponentially effed up they compound my epic disappointment with this all "exclusive pack". i mean don't get me wrong, im all for innovation and out the box concept but WTF i just want to fight. Far as im concerned i am gonna pass on day 1 purchase, and see how this plays out, not to enthusiastic or hopeful for future revaluations. Disclosure: The opinions expressed above does not represent the views or opinions of the fighting game community or any other affiliations. Thank you in advance and all concerns can be directed to to someone who gives f.
(Hey wait a second....anyone else notice how Rufus was confirmed before Guy and Cody? I'm sure they didn't just bring Cody's VO back for just a cutscene!)
Give me the SF3 or SF2 reversal window gem and I will buy two sets of the special edition.
there will not be a "no gems" setting or mode or anything like that. you can choose to not select any gems for your characters, but there's no way of preventing your opponents from selecting gems for their characters. seth killian told me this stuff personally a few hours ago at comic con.
- smithy via SRK
@85: Im all for new modes and features..I think everyone is..However they are DESTROYING fundamentals & the core/mechanism of a fighter..Auto-teching? Auto-BLOCKING even? Are you fcking kidding me lol. Im sorry but I dont want a 2 year old to be able to win in a fighter, is that to much to ask?
I love features, thats why I was excited for this gem system. I thought it was just extra DMG for maybe..sacrificing some HP..or for example an EX hadouken taking 1.5 bars instead of 1, but it had extra properties. Not auto-blocking wtf that just breaks the game lol.
They really wanna make everything as braindead easy as possible, now they think crouch teching is hard lmao, damn CC. IDC that you can disable it when making a lobby ,it needs to be a whole new MODE and the regular fights need to be gem less. Cause like I said, Idk I cant always find fights where I live, if lobbies are seperated im gonna be forced to play with gems too.
@91
I like how you complain about auto-block, yet say you will build all this meter to use auto-block through constant pressure and frametraps....didn't it occur to you that a person can do that RIGHT back to you and drain all of your auto-block meter in one good blockstring? It works both ways. Don't get all heated about a feature that you really only know the bare minimum about.
I could see the gem system being popular if Capcom does it right and gives alot of options. It has the potential to truly give a player the ability to customize their team for a playstyle that really fits them. I think that's why Seth said that tourney players will want to use them. Fighting games are a means of expression. Fights are way more interesting when you can see a person's playstyle shine through and see how it differentiates from another player's, and this gem system could exponentially increase this capacity. I really think the only thing they are doing wrong is making it dlc. I really hope that the DLC gems are ones that are kinda ridiculous and gimmicky, and they include good ones for free on the disc. DLC is annoying when it comes to tourneys, or even just playing at your friends house on the same console, which in my opinion are both more fun than playing online if you can.
Are we going back to the old days of Marvel Super Heros with the gem system haha?
@100 I've pretty much known that which leads to this to my next statement... Is there really anything to complain about gem wise? Gems are there so you can feel more "in place" with your character. For example, you like to play with grapplers but you hate their slow speed. theres a gem for that. I've no doubt that people are going to use gems to make strong characters even stronger but thats more so the characters then the gems themselves and who knows. Some gem combination might be good with character A, while the same gem combination might throw off character B.
@105
Why do you care if a player picked a gem for auto-tech or auto-block if it's using up those spaces where they could be using better gems? Since you apparently can block and tech on your own, you should be happy to run into a guy that needs to rely on those as a crutch, not only because it uses up those slots, but also because if auto-block uses meter when it's active, they wont even have the meter to do all the special techniques in the game that cost meter to perform. In my opinion, there's nothing wrong with giving newbie players a crutch mechanic. Eventually, those newbie's will want to learn the fundamentals to play legit once they get to the plateau and lose to good players.
From what i can tell, the gems alter the way you play the game. I'd prefer if each gem had a downside as well though. Take the autoblock for a bar gem for instance. I think it'll be good for crossups and high-low mixups. Even for a cost of meter, it's good cause it's just an option. If it cost you to take chip damage from normals instead, won't that be interesting? How about two levels of Super instead of Ultra meter? Knockdown Hadouken but more recovery?
I think we will have to have wait until after we played with the final version before deciding for tournaments.
5 Slots filled with Frame Advantage LEGG'OOOOOOOOO.
But in all seriousness, This Gem thing sounds scrubby.
Auto-block, tech, and now you can burn meter to counter-block strings.. What's next? Press ALL buttons to auto-win?
This new trailer struck a hard blow to SFxT but I'm feelin it a lot more than UMvC3...
@Complainers
Half of you crying are online-warriors. You probably will never be put in situation where you're playing for money.
Gems are ok. The biggest issue is do they cost money? How exclusive is exclusive? I don't mind costumes being exclusive because they dont affect the gameplay but when you are forcing people to buy gems just to stay competitive thats sort of effed up on capcoms side.
Okay I was fine with costumes being DLC, or even colors/stages/music, what ever you want to say, but something that deals directly WITH GAME PLAY BALANCE? I've never wanted a game to fail as hard as I do right now, and I was going to pre-order this game too.
You know... I have a NEW outlook on this...
Don't think of this game as the Successor to SF4 and everything is all good!
Only SF5 can take the throne from SF4, so if I think of SFxT as a light hearted Versus game, I don't feel so bad about the goofy mechanics.
All good.
@114
In so many words: Yes.
Some gems are SE "Exclusive" meaning, you won't ever see them unless you buy the pre-order pack of SFxT.
More than likely, you will get the chance to throw more useless money at Capcom when they put the Gems up for sell indiviually on the market(which we have seen happen already).
It's a scam for you to pay that extra 10-20 bucks for in-game content that was probably sliced out the cake for more profit.
@116: I don't see why anyone would've kept looking at this as "SF4 sequel" since it got announced, and especially once it was certified to have a tag mechanic. New title, new opportunity to try stuff. Like trying to compare Marvel Super Heroes vs, Street Fighter to Alpha 2 or 3.
@117: No point blaming Capcom solely, the whole industry is doing it because consumers are willing to pay for it. If it sticks as the new default method to do thing, them's the breaks until the money says otherwise.
The concept of DLC started off neat enough, but it was forgotten that the video game industry is a business and is made to make money. I'm over it.
@82
fair enough... i'd like to stay on topic as well, which idiots pulling me in various directions.
the gems don't create "unfair advantages" by default since the opponent has gems they can use too. now, having special gems could create that, but the gems "by default" don't create the unfairness you spoke of. regardless, at the end of the day, skilled players will still beat unskilled players, period. "pro players" will not suddenly be struggling against people they could beat with their eyes closed either.
the gem system will actually make people have to be more attentive to the fight, and employ more thought. it won't necessarily be a bad thing. it's like people are in a race to complain about feature in a the game so they can say "i said it first" or something.
@84
JasonLee on Shadow's **** for no apparent reason and doesn't even realize how dumb it is to rise to the defense of an idiot who took the first shot due to their own insecurities.
...and actually doesn't realize that the fact that he's responding to a post shadow made that wasn't even directed at him shows he cares and also doesn't realize that shadow wasn't trying to sound smart, but was pointing out how much an idiot the person he was actually talking to was being.
There's some definite unreasonable saltiness going on...
Oh, wait...it's the internet...
I would give it some breathing room to see where it goes before condemning it.
@119
Not so much the "sequel" to SF4, but it's competitive successor.
I know a bunch of people that plan to switch there Main fighting game once this game drops.
And I'll stay reserved for now, because obviously I haven't played SFxT. But I can say that from what I've seen so far I will NOT be leaving SF4 for this game.
I love the roster. And I'm going to buy the game. But I'm pretty sure I'll be back in Ranked mode SSF4AE2012 fairly quickly.
Gotta get my Chun to A rank lol.
best part is that all these angsty complainers will buy the game and suddenly not hate it oh so much... smfh. if you hate the game so much and are dedicated to that, don't buy it and don't waste time coming to complain so hard, damn. it's not that hard. capcom doesn't hold a gun to your head and make you buy it or anything else. people clamored to have more and more and more in a game, and capcom is giving that and people complain even more. before belly-aching over a new feature in a game, why not try to give it a chance? after all, there's no prixe for the person who can proclaim that they were the first to dislike something about a game...
I will buy the game but where are the new charcters?
Gems, no gems
Auto block, no block
Doesn't matter, as soon as they reveal Gouki you're all gunna lose anyway =D
@127
YES YOU PAY FOR THEM. THEY WILL BE DLC. SOME "TOP-TIER" ONES WILL MORE THAN LIKELY BE DLC.
How many people have anwsered that question..?
@124
You're sorta missing the point.
People are asking for more and Capcom IS giving us more but not the type of "more" most had in mind.
"More" Could have simply been the revival of past characters and fan-favorites that people wanted to see again.
Also a more in-depth gameplay elements that would add crisp towards competitive play.
Instead, we get "Street Fighter x Tekken and Cartoon Network"
We get an announcement that gems will be dlc after so much hype and also get told that the game is virtually "Easy Mode" with Auto-tech, Auto-block, Auto-fighting.
Yes, we are getting more but look what they are taking away. In the end, what exactly will we have?
Magic series and Gimmicks. The room for skill is dimishing and this proves it. There won't be any space to seperate Pros from Casuals which is every scrub here dream but I actually want that reward for bleeding meaningless hours into a game I love to feel rewarded when I rape with relative ease at high level.
inb4fraud matches becomes the norm.
Q: Are they just to give new players a leg-up, or will they be used in tournaments?
A: Tournament players will want to use them.
This Gem system is the reason why I won't be buying this game. What a way to ruin it. It won't mean players are equal, those with money are better. Even if you don't need to buy them with real money, it'll still means it will never be equal or fair. SUCH A BAD IDEA.
I dont know. Dont seem like good news to me and im worried about it, but i wont judge untill i know. But it sure as hell sounds like a money thing for capcom with special gems, rare gems and whatnot. Maybe they will build in a shop where players can put their rare gems in and others buy that stuff for a ton of money. Games like to pick up that roleplay stuff cause they want to make their games as addicting as World of warcraft. But Street Fighter and Marvel are already addicting, because they are competitive, and its about overcoming your opponent, and even with a broken tier list like the latest versions, it still kind of applies. But if the gems turn out the way many fear on this side, capcom is destroying what made their games great to chase after something that is more addicting and gives them more money. Your weed dealer is now trying to get u addicted to heroin. thats what it looks like to me, but who knows.
This or another similar type of LE/SE better be comming to the UK...
Why is everyone crying about the gems? it looks like a cool idea to me. Those SE gems will no doubt be early unlocks that EVERYONE wil be able to unlock at some point. And even if there not, i seriously doubt they'll be mega powerfull gems that give a big advantage over people that dont buy the SE
MUST HAVE! To people complaining about the Gem system, just stop. If Gems weren't there you would be complaining about something else, you know it, I know it, everybody knows it. If Gems weren't there, you'd complain about Pandora system, if that wasn't there you would be complaining about how this game is too similar or has nothing to do with SF/Tekken.
@128
I hope no one reads your post without reading what has been actually announced so they don't get turned off, because you exaggerate way too much just to make a point.
You people act like Capcom doesn't have a clue. This system was JUST announced. They will be having the gem system playable at several events and fight nights before its release, and they will pay attention to feedback. They aren't dumb enough to have completely game-breaking gems that could ruin the online experience, because they know the game wont do too well.
I can even foresee them putting in some real good gems as DLC...gotta have something to get our dollars. As long as they aren't gamebreaking either, and balanced with the other gems included in the game, then I'm cool with it.
They have already shown with Pandora how they can balance even something as powerful as infinite meter. I have faith they can balance the gems with their activation requirements and usage duration.
this gem crap wow is capcom gunna milk us this way? they should have focused on makin more characters instead of this gem and pandora crap havent they learned anyting from x factor.
@134
But they are dumb enough to announce "Exclusive" material for a Special Edition of the same game everyone is going to buy.
That in itself is stupid.
You can ingnore what they said but people who aren't falling for the hype knows what's up.
You people said X-factor wasn't a big deal and now everyone is pissed because it's there.
Pandora Mode shows wayy more promise than this Gem thing which is enabling so much free crap.
Auto-tech? Auto-block? Why not just make yourself CPU.
After some thought there are extreme goods and bads to this.
The good is because this panders to the casual crowd; you know, 85% of gamers? So it might be able to drag them in. It also sets up for some fun if you aren't online for the sole sake of winning. If its taken entirely out of both tournaments and ranked matches, then it should be allowed.
The bads is, Capcom is notorious for being money hungry. MVC3 having the bare minimum (Seriously, I'm a graphics major, I've seen what the texture UV mapping looks like, and I could create better stuff in an hour; hell, Capcom HAS created better stuff. Don't give me that BS that graphics were nulled for 50 frames per second, they flat out lied when they gave us Strider and Phoenix with multiple characters that aren't effects, as well as Tron Bonne.) The perks that made MVC1 enjoyable was the fact that we had a lot to do. It also completely irrelevences skill in tournaments and ranked matches; unless the autoblock gem itself makes it so you cannot block after the auto-block is gone, that is you are not allowed to block manually after, then that is alright. If you're allowed to, thats just silly.
SFxT is already looking like a flop. The only possible way this could be enjoyable is if they had a story mode now.
Yeah, I can't wait for the inevitable Super Street Fighter x Tekken, just like with Super Street Fighter IV & Arcade Edition & Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3. You all know it's gonna happen.
