For Standard Edition stick, most people replace the joystick with the Sanwa tp-8yt-sk oem. It is square gate, but most people prefer square gate over octagonal (8-way). You can buy the stick at lizardlick.com or amazon.com
For buttons, most common is Sanwa obsf-30 mm snap-in buttons. Very easy to install. Again, you can get them from lizardlick or amazon
Cheers Guys :)

Stick with the square gate. But swap it for a Sanwa JLF if ur stick doesn't have one in it as they are about the best IMO.
A square gate may feel a little weird at first but u will get used to it v quickly. Concentrate on where the central return point of the stick is after input and you'll be flying in no time at all.
You will come to love the snap action of performing the Shoryuken input. Feels awesome.
I wouldn't like to imagine how difficult Guile and Vega's Supers and Ultras would be on a Octo-gate.

A few things.
1) Nice video. I've customized several sticks. Your right about the small "nubs" on the buttons. I learned that lesson the hard way by cracking the plexi on the first TE stick I did. I cannot stress trimmiming them enough! If you don't do it you will DESTROY your New Plexi!
2) Square Gate is the way to go. People don't realize that sticks have Micro Switches. You don't need to Ride the Gate to perform moves with the quarter circle characters! Small motions within the gate work perfectly!
The Square gate then becomes optimal for charge characters because you can Ride the gate if you want and everything comes out as it's supposed to.
I customize sticks, but primarily use a Fight Pad. IMO, putting an Octo Gate on a stick is like trying to turn your stick into a Pad.
Learn to use the micro switches instead of riding the gate. That's the best advice for new stick players.
When he busted out the paint can with a lit cigarette I was waiting for an explosion... but good tutorial. Kick back approach makes me feel like I could do this.
